so badly do i want to go on little rants about theories and ideas and au's for re, but i don't want to embarrass myself around the nerds who've been on it since before i was born.
but of course i'm interested in the attractive sad man who gets his ass kicked a lot, so i gotta wonder what a beloved character getting caught and weaponized like jill would be like, right? i mean come on, can't we even add some of that good ol' ada/leon drama to it? (i'd prefer it to be along the lines of "i want to see you again" rather than "hand over the sample" ya know?)
can't i just try to get in the mind of this poor traumatized survivor of horror having to go through yet another awful awful thing?

The Other Side of Perfect by Mariko Turk Little Brown/Poppy
Alina Keeler was destined to dance, but one terrifying fall shatters her leg--and her dreams of a professional ballet career along with it.
After a summer healing (translation: eating vast amounts of Cool Ranch Doritos and binging ballet videos on YouTube), she is forced to trade her pre-professional dance classes for normal high school, where she reluctantly joins the school musical. However, rehearsals offer more than she expected--namely Jude, her annoyingly attractive cast mate she just might be falling for.
But to move forward, Alina must make peace with her past and face the racism she had grown to accept in the dance industry. She wonders what it means to yearn for ballet--something so beautiful, yet so broken. And as broken as she feels, can she ever open her heart to someone else?

And that's when Aiden comes roaring back into her life – as a VIP guest at the resort.

Inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion, Where the Rhythm Takes You is a romantic, mesmerizing novel of first love and second chances.
From Little Tokyo, with Love by Sarah Kuhn Viking Books for Young Readers
If Rika’s life seems like the beginning of a familiar fairy tale–being an orphan with two bossy cousins and working away in her aunts’ business–she would be the first to reject that foolish notion. After all, she loves her family (even if her cousins were named after Disney characters), and with her biracial background, amazing judo skills and red-hot temper, she doesn’t quite fit the princess mold.
All that changes the instant she locks eyes with Grace Kimura, America’s reigning rom-com sweetheart, during the Nikkei Week Festival. From there, Rika embarks on a madcap adventure of hope and happiness–searching for clues about her long-lost mother, exploring Little Tokyo’s hidden treasures with a cute actor, and maybe…finally finding a sense of belonging.
But fairy tales are fiction and the real world isn’t so kind. Rika knows she’s setting herself up for disappointment, because happy endings don’t happen to girls like her. Should she walk away before she gets in even deeper, or let herself be swept away?

Angel & Hannah: A Novel in Verse by Ishle Park One World
Hannah, a Korean American girl from Queens, New York, and Angel, a Puerto Rican boy from Brooklyn, fall in love in the spring of 1993. Hannah, who comes from a strict Korean home, meets Angel, a free and beautiful boy, at a quinceañera:
Beyond flushed, sweating bodies pushed, pushing like cattle below black & buzzing speakers, under a torn pink streamer loose as a tendril of hair--lush-- his eyes. Darkluminous. Warm. A blush floods her. Hannah sucks in her breath, but can't pull back. Music fades. A hush he's a young buck in the underbrush, still in a disco ball dance of shadow & light Their forbidden love instantly and wildly blooms along the Jackie Robinson Expressway.
Told in seasons Angel & Hannah holds all of the tension and cadence of blank verse while adding dynamic and expressive language, creating new kinds of engrossing and magnetic forms. The hip-hop sonnets and poems are dynamic, arresting, observant, and magical, conveying the intimacies and sacrifices of love and addiction and the devastating realities of struggle and loss.
Committed to cultural details and the vernacular of Queens and Brooklyn, this is a hip-hop love story, not of the Capulets and the Montagues, but two New York City kids trying to survive and grow within their families and communities, driven by an all-consuming love.
The Eid Gift: An Adam and Zayneb Story by S.K. Ali Simon & Schuster
Even though it’s during Ramadan, a month of fasting and spiritual devotion, A and Z can’t help spending any and all free time with each other. Enter parents and their idea for a nikah at the end of Ramadan, on Eid day itself.
Which would appear to be the greatest Eid gift of all — except that, unbeknownst to each other, A and Z have been working on spectacularly surprising Eid gifts for the other all along.
The only thing? In true “The Gift of the Magi” fashion, these Eid gifts are at complete odds with the other. Along with a nikah day over-run with “benevolent” family interferences, A and Z are up for either recording this Eid as the best one ever, as a real marvel...or as a completely upsetting oddity.
Author's Note: WHEN IT TAKES PLACE:
The Eid Gift is a part of the Love from A to Z storyline; it occurs shortly before the epilogue. (If you haven’t read Love from A to Z yet, please consider doing so before reading this story—some of what occurs will not make sense otherwise.)
SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND:
While there’s nothing explicit in the story, it is more mature than S. K. Ali’s previous YA novels—there’s more physical touch here than in Love from A to Z— so readers are asked to exercise awareness of their reading comfort zones.

I hope it counts among the AUs, can I order a scenario of the witch AU with Leone? He is found and rescued by a young witch when he was a child and he never wanted to leave her. They both grow up together, but they don't trust each other because they know that at some point the witch will stop growing and will be immortal. Until finally it happens and things get awkward between them, to finally end up together?
Hello there, darling! That was such a good prompt!! Thank you for sending it :3 and sooo, here we go, then! I hope you’ll like it :3
Witch AU: Leone Abbacchio is rescued by a young witch as a child and they grow up together
(Under the cut for length!)
Do not enter the ancient forest, old people said, or the Witch who lives in the black tree will eat your heart. It was a scary story that Leone had heard since he was a little child, basically a toddler. Do not play in the forest, and don’t hunt there when night falls. Ancient forests like that were full of traps and secrets that should stay unrevealed; it wasn’t a place for children.
Leone was from a family of knights, people who protected cities and villages from every kind of danger, being this human or supernatural. And Leone wasn’t weak, nor he was afraid: he wanted to protect who needed him, no matter how dangerous it was.
And so, the child, no more than ten years old, put his father’s helmet on and grabbed his short dagger that, in his tiny hand, was as big as a sword. He was tired of hearing about the dangerous and scaring witch who infested the forest and prevented everyone from going there: he would have slain the dark witch, being a valorous knight like his father.
He sneaked in the forest at night time, covered in a dark cloak. As soon as he stepped into the forest, all the sounds from outside seemed to be muffled. Leone could hear just his breath and his heart fastly pounding in his chest. He wasn’t scared, he wasn’t scared… he was a brave boy, sure he was!
He frowned, as the grip on the dagger grew stronger. He had a mission to do. He started to walk, paying attention to the big roots and the dangerous forest floor. The night moisture had soaked the fallen leaves, making them all wet and slippery; it was easy to fall down and break an arm or a leg. His nerves jolted every time he heard a strange noise: a sudden crack of branches, a sound that seemed a heavy step, the rustle of leaves, the cold wind that ruffled the foliage… animal sounds too. Sometimes they were far, but, sometimes, they were too close for his likening; fear was starting to root in his heart.
Unfortunately, that deep fear made him be careless: his foot got stuck in a root, and he stumbled forward. He rolled down a small hill, landing on his back, all aching and without breath. Everything hurt: his head, his arm… but, especially, his foot. He tried to move it, but whined, in pain. It seemed broken…
Suddenly, a lantern light blinded him, for a second. He saw a silhouette, and the person was wearing a pointy hat… Leone felt his blood curling. That was the witch… that was the dark witch of the forest! He had found her! Well, the witch had found him, but it was a detail. Now, it was the right time to slain her!
“Uh? Who are you?” Leone didn’t even hear the witch’s words, as he was busy trying to get up and lifting the heavy dagger. It was more difficult, now that his arm wasn’t at its prime…
“Stay back, witch! I am… I am here to end your life! And to free the village!” he screamed, lifting with difficulty the heavy dagger. He tried to hit the evil witch, but he missed, as the witch had had all the time to avoid it.
“Mom, come here! I’ve found a boy!” Leone frowned, incredulous: mom?! So that meant that…
The lantern’s light dimmed, and he could finally see the witch’s face. It was a little girl, no older than him, and she was looking at him with curiosity and wariness. Leone’s jaw dropped: so that was the witch that scared the villagers?! A kid like him?!
“A boy, sweety? Oh dear, it seems like he got lost…” Leone put the dagger in a defensive stance, as he had seen his father doing so many times, when he heard a second voice approaching. Soon after, another witch, a woman, emerged from the bushes, looking at him with curiosity. It was obvious that she was the little witch’s mother.
“I’m not lost! I’m here to slain you!” the witch huffed a little laugh, shaking her head and approaching him. Leone tried to draw back, but his feet, that traitor, gave up on him. He fell on the ground, grunting in pain. Not now, not now!!
“Oh, you’re wounded! It’s all ok, we’re going to heal you, ok? Here, let me pick you up…” the woman gently blocked the dagger, picking it from his hands and giving it to her daughter; then, she picked him up, quietly ignoring his threats, and carried him with her; her little daughter was trotting behind her. Soon, Leone fell silent, as fear made its way in his heart: he had failed… the witches had imprisoned him. What would have they done to him? Maybe they would have tortured him, or made experiments on him or… or whatever a witch did. What did witches do, usually, in any case?
“Here, we’re home. Now we’ll check that foot, hm?” Leone tried again to wiggle out of the woman’s grip, but she was way stronger than him; he grumbled all the time, while she was laying him in a comfy bed and then checking his foot. He glowered at her, trying to see what she was doing; maybe cutting his foot off and roast it for dinner? Or…
He sighed, feeling a soothing coolness on the aching ankle. It was so nice… and the smell in that house, it was… one of some kind of herb, and flowers, and hot soup… it was comforting. Almost… homey.
“Are you hungry, dear? There’s mushroom soup for dinner.” the woman said, getting up and leaving her daughter at Leone’s side. Leone whispered a “yes, please”, and then stared at the little girl, who was already shamelessly looking intently at him. It was kinda unnerving… and he felt like he couldn’t trust her. Not now, at least. Well, his beliefs on witches were basically a lie, so… maybe she was trustworthy, somehow. But, right now, his biggest worry was not to burn his tongue with the hot soup; his trust issues would have waited. - He ended up staying at the old house in the forest. No one was waiting for him at the village, and everyone already thought he had died in the forest, so… he had no reasons to go back. And, also, the two were alone… it wasn’t chivalrous leaving two women alone in such a dangerous place; he had to protect them. The witch mother hid a soft smile, when he grumbled his intentions, and she let him stay. She and her daughter taught him how to move in the forest, to recognize the paths, every tree, every rock… they taught him which herbs could heal, and which ones could kill; which mushrooms were edible, and which ones were not. Leone grew up strong and confident, learning from the witches and the forest to be valiant and fierce; and the little witch grew up too, becoming powerful and benevolent, a feared and respected witch as her mother. However, the two seemed just… not to get along, at least most of the time. The reason was apparently simple, but it was like a thorn into their heart: they were too different.
He was a human; yes, a kinda special human, as he had been basically raised by a witch, but still a human: a vulnerable and, mostly, mortal human. She was a witch, and this meant that she was immortal. One day, she would have stopped getting old and she would have stayed like that forever, in an eternal youth, ‘till the end of the days. How could he even think about his feelings for her? Any kind of relationship between them was absurd, ridiculous…
But if it was so, why couldn’t he stop thinking about her? He saw her, so strong, and beautiful, and good, always ready to help a wounded animal or to bring back someone lost in the woods; he saw her smile, bright like the sun that filtered through the leaves, and her eyes, glittering like the stream of clear water near their house… he had tried to stop to think about her, oh, he had tried many times, but it was useless. She was in his mind, and she didn’t want to leave.
She would have reached her full maturity at twenty-five years, and, after that birthday, she would have stopped to get old, achieving her people’s immortality. That day was nearer and nearer, and Leone feared that day. It was like… like he was going to lose her forever. He didn’t want it. Maybe… maybe he should confess his feelings? It wouldn’t have changed the fact that she was going to be immortal, but at least she would have known. Or maybe he had to keep it a secret, and just to let her go? Maybe she would have been happier, that way…
He spent so much time pondering and thinking that her birthday came in a rush. While Y/N was celebrating her maturity with the mother witch and their coven, Leone was almost grieving. The time had come, and he had lost his chance. What a fool…
He tried to keep it just for himself as much as he could, but it was hard. Sometimes he slipped, and he showed a bit his true feelings, in the tenderness of his touch, when he helped her to hop down from a high root, or in his lingering gaze on her when she was focusing on her studies or on a potion. He could see that she was confused by his behaviour: one moment he was tender, the following he was cold and distant again… sometimes he spotted even pain, in her eyes, and it pained him deeply. If only he could make her happy as she deserved…
“Do you care to tell me what’s happening, Leone? It’s getting awkward.” Leone frowned, hearing her voice so near. He put aside his sword, turning to look at her, trying to find a good excuse… an excuse that didn’t exist. He could already see the pain in her eyes, like she was expecting him to lie again…
No, he thought, not this time.
“It may get even more awkward, Y/N.” he said, stern, averting his gaze from her. He heard her sighing, and sitting down next to him. He could even sniff her herbal smell…
“It is already awkward. C’mon, Leone. Be honest.” Y/N replied, with a tired sigh. Leone bit his lower lip, uncertain. How could he confess to her with the right sensibility and sincerity? It was an important moment, he didn’t want to screw it up, he had to be delicate…
“I’m in love with you, and I’ve been for a while. But you’re immortal, and I’m a human, so… well, forget it. I’ll eventually let it go.” he grumbled, in the end, almost stumbling on his words. He closed his eyes, cringing internally, realizing how much he had screwed it up. Well, fantastic, now she would have thought he was a creeper and an idiot too…
“For real?” Leone just nodded, at her whisper. He couldn’t bring himself even to look at her face; he was too embarrassed. He almost jolted, when he felt her fingertips tracing his hand’s back, and then interweaving in his ones. Her hand was so warm…
“I’m in love with you too, you big idiot. And… and, well, we could try it, don’t you think? We’re just being sad, now.” she said, with a small pout. Leone dared to look at her, surprised. She felt the same for him…? And… and even wanted to try? With one like him? It was so wonderful it almost seemed untrue…
“But… how will we deal with our… different lifespans?” he asked, frowning a little. She softly smiled, and he felt his heart melting at that sight.
“We’ll find a way, Leone. But now we could just… enjoy the moment, don’t you think?” she murmured, resting her head on his shoulder, with a quiet sigh. Leone hid a small smile, closing his eyes and resting his cheek on her hair, feeling way more lighter than just a few moments before.
Enjoying the moment, she said… well, maybe she was right. Surely, they both would have been way happier than how they were now.
They would have faced their future, side by side, when the time would have come. But, right now… they would have enjoyed the moment, and nothing more.

YOU ARE CHALLENGED BY POKEMANIAC GLENN!
...
...
After the video call, you quickly call your mum to tell her the news: Glenn is in the Glimwood Tangle and a Shiinotic has him. Somehow, Glenn is under it's influence and Rotom's dex feature informs you that people tend to get lost in woods due to Shiinotic's lights which confuse them and divert them from their paths. You ponder what the Shiinotic wants from your brother in the first instance. With Raihan by your side, you tell him about Glenn’s Pokemon just so he’s aware - and you're so glad to have him as moral support as he takes your hand and leads you over to the group in front of the entrance to the woods - the locals have dispersed now - and Leon is first to greet the two of you.
"Raihan? What are you doing here?" He asks. Oh gosh, the Champion of Galar is just standing mere inches from you. He's not as tall as Raihan but he's a lot bulkier, with those thick, strong arms and sturdy chest.
"Hey Leon, I'm here with my girlfriend." Raihan casually introduces you to the group and you grow nervous as all eyes settle on you, your heart thudding a little louder than usual. "Her brother's lost in the woods and I'm gonna go with her to get him back. You guys don't mind, do you?"
"Not at all." Leon replies; he turns and smiles warmly at you, brimming with unwavering confidence, and you freeze up on the spot altogether. "Nice to meet you, I'm Leon. This is Sonia, Opal and Allister." Leon politely introduces you to the others and you end up awkwardly muttering out a feeble 'nice to meet you' to everyone except Opal, since you already know each other. Allister offers you a small, shy wave and Sonia smiles cheerily at you. Leon adds, "You've heard about the mysterious white light in the woods, right?"
You shake your head; you wonder if this was what Opal was investigating the other day.
"It's appeared in various areas of the forest. The locals think it's a hurt Pokemon who need help." Sonia says; she's a pretty young woman with flawless skin and long lashes. A Yamper stands beside her, looking eagerly at your group and wagging its small tail. "The woods are very large so we're going to split into two groups to cover more ground - I'll go with Opal and Leon will go with Allister."
Whilst you wonder if it'll be a good idea for Opal to go into the woods, Raihan says, "Sure, and if we find anything along the way, we'll let you know." He grins as he squeezes your hand tightly.
With a somewhat vague plan in place, you're rather stunned to see everyone entering the woods without much further ado and they begin to split up - Sonia and Opal take the route to the left, Leon and Allister go to the right which leaves yourself and Raihan with the middle route. Even though you've been in these woods before many times... somehow it's far more foreboding than usual and you stare into the darkness with dread in your gut.
"Let's go." Raihan says, tugging on your hand gently, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"Okay." You're far more at ease knowing Raihan is with you. You're about to take one step forwards until you hear a familiar trill and turn round to see Phantump hovering down the path. It stops before you both, staring up at you with his big, wide eyes and you squat down to his level. "Phantump? What are you doing here?"
He makes a loud noise and circles you wildly, then gestures to the wood with one stubby arm.
"I think he wants to come with us." Raihan mutters, grinning.
He nods and you tilt your head in befuddlement. "It's not safe, Phantump. You should stay at home." But Phantump shakes his head and circles yourself and Raihan again and again, stopping to gesture to the woods before he clutches onto your arm. "Oh, alright." You say, whilst Raihan chuckles. Phantump seems adamant in coming with you despite your fair warning. Phantump is on edge and you're not sure why.
Without further ado, you enter. Inside, you both yell out for Glenn in hopes that you'll receive some form of response but to your dismay, you don't have much luck and your group wanders further and further in; you don't see any trainers down the path and you don't see any of the gym leaders, Sonia or Leon for all that mattered. It's just you, Raihan and Phantump; you're beginning to feel bad that you've dragged Raihan into this - does he need to return to Hammerlocke soon? Does he have better stuff to do? You stop at once and when he notices you're not walking beside him, he pauses and turns to you.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry." You croak out, "If you're busy, I totally understand and - "
Before you can finish your sentence, he reaches for your hand and squeezes it firmly. "C'mon, let's find your brother."
You stare at him as he ruffles your hair playfully, then nod. "Okay."
Your group continues, coming to a gradual stop when you spot two familiar figures up ahead, bumbling around in the darkness. It appears they are seemingly running away. Squinting your eyes, you're able to make out that it's your brother's Kricketune and Lickilicky and both are running around frantically. Whilst you wonder where Sugarplum the Galarian Ponyta could be, Kricketune and Licky are not alone; behind them is another figure - it's a tall, slender young man wearing all black attire - long black trenchcoat, t-shirt and boots. He's blond with blue eyes and fair skin and it looks like he's trying to capture your brother's pokemon.
"Stop!" You yell as you rush over without a second thought, and Raihan and Phantump follow you closely behind. "You can't capture those pokemon!"
The young man pauses, ultra ball poised in hand. "Huh?" He grunts audibly; spotting the dragon tamer beside you, he raises a brow next. "Raihan?"
Once Raihan stops by your side, he greets him casually, much to your surprise. "Hey, Eli."
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same." Raihan replies with a cool smile.
"Who's this?" The young man known as Eli gestures to you as you stand protectively in front of Kricketune and Lickilicky; they look relieved and hurriedly take cover behind your back, shaking.
On cue, Raihan slips an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him. "My girlfriend. We're looking for her brother."
"I thought you were with Alicia?"
As you bristle all over, Raihan says, "Why does everyone think that?"
"Never mind." Eli mutters, before he inspects you closely, "Wait. I've seen you before; you're that girl who works in the Wild Area. I didn't realise the old bag hired someone." He points out when he studies your face carefully, yet you're certain you've never seen him before. "Hmph. Well, whatever. I thought it was weird to see a wild Lickilicky and Kricketune all the way out here. What kind of reckless trainer allows their pokemon to roam around like that?"
"Chill, they're her brother's pokemon."
"Why are you talking for her? Can't she speak for herself?"
Your brows furrow at once. What's his deal? Before you can say anything, Raihan is quick to reply, "Don't talk to her like that. Besides, she doesn't need to speak to you." He says with a smirk; he didn't raise his voice in any way but it's enough to make Eli frown and cross his arms, visibly annoyed.
You're glad that Raihan has stuck up for you but you don't really want any unnecessary hostility or arguments here, so you croak out, "It's, um, nice to meet you."
Eli merely raises a brow again, unimpressed.
You're unsure if there's any point in telling this guy any details. Therefore, you turn to the pokemon instead. "Are you guys alright?" You ask and they nod; Kricketune lets out a sad whistle and click from its mandibles and Lickilicky throws it's morose gaze to the ground. Both look pretty exhausted and they're covered all over in dirt and grime. "It's okay, we'll find Glenn soon, I promise." Turning to Eli, you suppose it won't hurt to ask if he'd seen Glenn and you begin to describe your brother's appearance to him.
He gazes at you with half-lidded eyes in response. "Maybe I've seen him, maybe not. Who knows."
Urgh, this guy is no help at all...and rude.
"I'll see you later." Eli adds, and you know he's talking to Raihan, not you - unsurprisingly, he stalks past you without sparing a second glance. He disappears into the woods, swept up by the darkness.
It grows silent as you hear his footsteps echoing away and you and Raihan exchange glances. "What a charming guy." You mutter, rolling your eyes.
"He's like that." Raihan replies, dropping the smirk to coo at you affectionately, "Did he scare you?"
"No."
He brings you into a hug, squeezing the air out of you whilst stroking the top of your head, one arm clamped firmly around your waist and the other cradling the back of your head. "He's not good with people."
"I'll say."
"Don't take it personal. I'm sorry he spoke to you like that."
"Don't apologise, he's a complete and utter twat. Who is he exactly and how do you know him?"
"Eli works for Macro Cosmos; he's pretty close to Chairman Rose. He was meant to become Hammerlocke gym leader."
Your eyes bulge at once. "No way."
"It's true."
"Well, I'm glad Chairman Rose chose you instead. That guy has no respect for anyone." You reply, and before you know it, Raihan begins to pepper you with kisses and nuzzle the side of your head. You're left chuckling in response to his bout of affection before you wrap your arms around him in return and after a brief kiss and cuddle, he releases you. You did sense some bad blood between them, but you reckon Raihan will indulge more at another time. You've got more important tasks here - you must find Glenn - but now you have Lickilicky and Kricketune and your little party has grown bigger. You smile at them reassuringly as Phantump moves to rest on top of Lickilicky's head. "Guys, do you know where Glenn is?"
They both nod and begin venturing down the path; you inwardly breathe a sigh of relief and follow them. Finally, some good news! Further down and you're at a forked road - there's paths spiralling to the left and right. Unfortunately, Kricketune goes to the left and Licky goes to the right; you quickly haul them back. "Guys!" You exclaim, "Guys, I need you to really focus here." They look at you with their beady eyes and this time, Kricketune goes to the right and Licky goes to the left. Whilst you smack a hand over your forehead with a sigh, Raihan chuckles under his breath.
"What do you propose we do?" He utters, delving his hands into his pockets.
"I dunno, I - Eep!" You leap in the air with a shriek and cling onto Raihan as soon as you feel a tug on your elbow from behind, turning round only to see that it is the Stow-on-side gym leader, looking up at you behind his mask. You didn't even hear him approach at all! "Allister?!" You exclaim.
The boy throws his glance to the ground. "....Sorry...didn't mean to scare you."
"It's okay."
Raihan glances around but there's no sign of the Champion. "What are you doing here on your own? Where's Leon?"
"....We got separated. Sorry....Can I...can I come with you?" His voice is so soft you strain to hear him.
"Of course!"
"....Thanks...."
And your party has grown even bigger. With Allister, your group decides to head down the left path. Now you possibly may have to find Leon too. With no Glenn or Sugarplum the Ponyta in sight, you don't feel too positive and the path becomes more and more worn out and divides into various, smaller paths that are so dark, you're wondering where exactly you are because you have never wandered so far into the Glimwood Tangle like this but suddenly Phantump leaves his spot on your shoulder and begins to float off on his own, specifically heading to a path where a worn out wooden sign is slathered with the words 'NO ENTRY' in faded white paint.
"Phantump! Where are you going?" You try to grab him back but he evades you and continues to float away. "Phantump, come back!"
"Let him." Allister says quietly, "He's found something. Or someone...."
Eyes wide, your group hastily trail after your ghost pokemon. It's hard to keep track of Phantump because it's so dark and you have to either keep ducking away from the low-hanging branches of the trees or push them away from your path. Phantump leads you deeper and deeper into the woods and eventually, he stops. He's stopped at a clearing that's full of overturned, rotting tree trunks. There's a large bog in the middle and the air is musty and old. Phantump glances around before he hovers over to one of the fallen trees and there's a small, raised bump in the ground which is uneven and mossy. Then he turns to you, trilling loudly.
"What is it?" You step forwards with Allister by your side and you both squat down. Raihan crosses his arms as he stands behind you. "What's wrong?"
Phantump makes a sad, warbling noise and you look around yourself. You can't imagine anyone passing here. It's far away from the main path and the encroaching darkness and huge, foreboding trees along with the 'no entry' sign are huge turn offs for most passerbys. It's decayed and there's mould everywhere. The bog smells foul, too. There's overgrown moss and fauna over the area but everything looks...dead. It's then you spot some strange twigs sticking upright out of the earth near the bog. You cock your head to the side and Allister tugs at your sleeve.
"...Look." He points to the sticks which disappear under the bog and the two of you glance over where you see a strange shape in the dirty water...as you attempt to make out what it is exactly, it's then you see...
...a row of teeth?
You immediately stand up in fright, slapping a hand over your mouth.
It's a body.
Phantump trills sadly and hovers over the surface of the water, closing his eyes and crying loudly. It's a sad sound, eerie and haunting.
"What's wrong?" Raihan utters; you watch your Pokemon blankly until you hold your arms out and he floats towards you. You bring him into your embrace and he's so small and tiny in your arms; you clutch him tightly as he cries. Phantump hasn't cried in your presence before. Raihan moves to stand beside you and you both take turns holding him.
"....It's his." Allister mutters.
Your eyes widen the second time. You recall that Rotom once told you Phantump were the spirits of children who had become lost in the woods. As that knowledge surfaces in your mind, you find yourself unmoving; you're numb with shock and horror. You have no words for this. What was meant to be a mere search and rescue mission has spiralled out of control. You were only meant to find Glenn, goddamnit. What the hell is going on here exactly? Holding him close to you, Phantump cries loudly; it takes a while for him to stop and when he does, you sit him down on a log with Allister whilst you and Raihan discuss.
"We'll need to call the police." Raihan mutters, holding out his phone and he's not surprised that he's barely able to get a signal here.
"We can't just leave; Phantump needs us."
"I can stay with him...." Allister mutters quietly from the side, "...And you can go look for your brother. Don't worry, I know my way back. I'll be okay."
"No way; we're not leaving anyone behind."
Allister blinks behind his mask whilst Phantump floats off the log and moves to perch on your shoulder. He turns to you, trilling again. Allister murmurs out, "....Phantump says he's fine now and that we should go. Go find your brother."
"Are you sure, Phantump?" You ask; when Phantump nods, you sigh gently under your breath. "...Alright."
You make a mental note to find Phantump's family, if possible.
...
The search continues. It's possibly been an hour now, maybe more. You still haven't crossed paths with Sonia, Opal or Leon and you're beginning to wonder if you'll be able to find Glenn at all until Raihan suddenly stops in his tracks.
"I heard something." He mutters, and everyone falls silent and you're not sure what you're listening for until -
"Zzrt...help..."
"It's coming from over there." Raihan offers you his hand and he leads you towards the source; soon, you find yourself in a familiar area with rows and rows of neon green mushrooms. To the far left, you spot Glenn's dirty, mangled phone which is wedged between some undergrowth. You rush over, picking it up and turning round to see a struggling Rotom who is fizzing weakly.
"Help...bzzt..."
"It's okay, we got you." Raihan carefully hands you him.
"Poor thing." You mutter as Rotom struggles; you wonder if this means that Glenn is close. You gingerly place him into your bag and -
"Hey, sis."
Turning round, you see a familiar figure steps towards your group. Indeed, it's your brother; he's wearing the same clothes when he left your home prior the weekend, indicating your hunch was correct. Usually, he looks healthy and he's always smiling. Now, his eyes are tired and his complexion is pallid. Beside him, a Shiinotic latches onto his hand. It's possibly draining his life force and things will become even worse if you don't get your brother out of it's clutches soon.
"Glenn!" You cry out with relief. "You're okay! Let's go home."
"I'm surprised you made it this far." Glenn mutters in a zombie-trance. "I'm afraid I can't go with you. I'm going to stay here forever."
"Glenn, snap out of it!" You yell, before you turn to the Shiinotic, "He can't stay in the woods with you! Let him go! Let my brother go, please!"
"I'm not leaving." Glenn drawls again. "He will be our protector. We can't let this one go. He is our chosen one."
"Look, we found Rotom!" You scoop his phone out and hold Rotom up; poor Rotom is weak and tired, his eyes closed as he buzzes limply.
Glenn's left eye twitches in response but it's not enough. The Shiinotic's filaments begin to grow and stretch further up his arm, up to his elbow. Your brother lets out a miserable groan and uses his other hand to clamp his fingers over his face, grunting. However, he's quick to recover as the Shiinotic stares at you unrelentingly; Glenn grabs a pokeball behind his belt and holds it up, "I challenge you to a battle and if I win, you'll leave us alone and never come back."
You stiffen all over; you were really hoping it wouldn't come down to this. Shit, a Pokemon battle with Glenn? You aren't exactly prepared for it... However, it looks like you have no choice - turning to Raihan and Allister, you give them a nod. "Don't worry, I'll handle this." You assure them, although deep inside and you're terrified. You've not battled Glenn for a long time and for a good reason. You feel Raihan might protest to this challenge so you add, "It has to be me."
"Be careful," Raihan says, "You got this; I know you do."
You smile weakly at him as they move away to give you some space for the battle. Shiinotic leads Glenn to the right and you go to the left - you make sure there's enough room between you two before you grab a pokeball out your bag. Swallowing down, you both release your pokemon at the same time. "Go, Garchomp!"
"Go, Umbreon."
You pale at once as the moonlight pokemon emerges in a burst of red light and lands on the ground in front of your brother, facing off against your pokemon. There's no time to waste; you issue a command immediately: "Garchomp, Swords Dance!"
"Wish." Glenn commands.
You watch as Umbreon leaps into the air and curls into a ball and a tawny yellow glow emits from this body. Uh-oh. You know what this means; you better beat his Umbreon fast. "Dragon Tail!" You yell, and Garchomp acknowledges your command and begins his assault, however -
"Substitute." Your brother utters, and Umbreon immediately vanishes and is replaced with a little pokedoll on the ground that takes the brunt of the attack. Your Garchomp stays on high guard until the Umbreon reappears. "Toxic." Glenn adds, and Umbreon opens its mouth and unleashes a foul, purple liquid that begins to seep into your pokemon before he can evade and you're all too aware that he's been badly poisoned.
"Damn." You growl under your breath; you try not to dwell on the fact that you have an audience which spikes up your anxiety levels. You're determined not to mess up but it's difficult when you're aware that people are watching, especially Raihan. He's so important to you - you can't let him see you mess up or lose, not here, not now.
However, you know they realise that Glenn's Umbreon has been trained in the same manner much like your own pokemon because it is so agile and its moveset is unique. Hell, Umbreon has no physical attacking moves at all. It only knows how to stall, wear out and annoy its opponents.
Glenn's not an entire goofball as he appears to be at all. Nope, he pretty much knows what he's doing and destroyed you every time you battled. He took training to a whole new level. Not only did he EV train his pokemon to the max, but they've also been bred to perfection with the right nature and meticulously selected by their IVs. Although you knew this, you were happy with your Beldum and Gible. You didn't mind what nature or IV spread they had. It didn't matter. Growing up with Glenn meant you also know his pokemon since they were babies - well, some of them. You know Umbreon, for example - she's Espie's sister.
You wonder if things probably wouldn't be so bad if you had an Antidote or a Full Restore at hand too but you don't have any and don't have the time for it - Garchomp hasn't even landed a hit and he's already incapacitated. Your Garchomp roars wildly as the poison starts to spread, his condition worsening as the minutes tick by.
"Outrage!" You command next and Garchomp slashes at Umbreon - again, with Substitute in play, your pokemon slashes into the wretched doll and he flinches as the poison sends severe pain shooting through his body. You command one more attack until finally, Umbreon reappears as Garchomp continues his rampage.
"Protect." Glenn utters, and Umbreon's eyes glow as a large barrier surrounds it. Your Garchomp's attack shatters the shield but Umbreon is unharmed. It protected itself from one attack but your Garchomp is quick on the offensive - your pokemon aims another well-timed slash; your Garchomp's attack lands and Umbreon takes a huge beating but to your dismay, it's still standing.
You watch as Garchomp finally stops and you're left with a confused, poisoned pokemon. Umbreon's Wish is granted and you grit your teeth as Glenn's pokemon is almost fully restored whilst your Garchomp flails around helplessly until a little light sparkles and your pokemon stops writhing. Glenn suddenly recalls Umbreon even though your pokemon has recovered from its confusion thanks to the Persim berry you gave it to hold (and never used, until now).
"Go." Glenn tosses another ball into the field and a tiny pokemon that resembles a dirty and old, stuffed Pikachu doll appears. Oh shit, it's Mimikyu. You are so screwed. "Play Rough." Glenn says quickly, and before you know it, a slither of black sweeps out from the bottom of it's rag body and smashes into your Garchomp. It's so powerful your pokemon is knocked out in one swipe.
You stare, eyes wide.
A deathly silence fills the woods as your pokemon crashes to the ground with his eyes closed, unmoving.
Raihan and Allister watch in silence.
"...Good job, Chompy. Get some well deserved rest." You shakily return your fallen pokemon and take out another pokeball, tossing it onto the field. "Metagross, go!" You release the massive pokemon and once it drops to the ground, the entire woodlands shake under it's weight. "Use Earthquake!" You yell; your pokemon obeys and you're relieved when Mimikyu has nowhere to run; your attack slams into it's little body and although you've played with Mimikyu before in your childhood, you're left a little heartbroken when it lets out a pained squeak. It's still standing however, because your attack only broke through its Disguise.
"Shadow Sneak." Glenn commands, and Mimikyu slashes at your Metagross before he can avoid which cripples its front arms, forcing your pokemon to collapse over its front.
"No!! Metagross, are you okay?"
Your poor pokemon slowly drags itself up to stand and you're reluctant to let him battle... It turns to you and your gazes meet. It wants to continue.
"...Bullet Punch." You mutter unfocusedly, and Metagross uses what little strength it has left to slam one of its arms over Glenn's pokemon. It smacks into Mimikyu successfully but your Metagross is severely weakened.
Glenn recalls his fainted Mimikyu and fishes for another pokeball. "Go, Excadrill."
You can't bear to see Metagross suffer anymore so you recall him, thank him for his hard work and send another pokemon to the field. It's Starmie, who stands proudly in front of you, its beautiful red gem glittering under the dim light. "Use Surf!" You cry out, and Starmie shoots an impressive jet of water from one of its points which slam into Excadrill; however, you're stunned to see it still standing and Glenn issues his command.
"Rock Slide!"
"Starmie, look out!" You yell, as Excadrill summons a barrage of rocks that wails down on your pokemon with no warning and Starmie is left sprawled flat over the ground, it's gem flashing like crazy. You decide to return your Starmie as the attack is simply too powerful. No wonder people don't like competitive battling. They're vicious, intense and nerve-wracking. These types of battles aren't fun at all. Well, not now anyway, because you think you are on the losing side. You still have several remaining pokemon so you grab your next pokeball and hurl it far into the field. "Tyranitar, I choose you!" Interesting, it's been a while since you said that.
Glenn returns Excadrill, holding another pokeball in hand. "Go, Milotic."
Oh crumbs.
You watch as a beautiful, ivory serpentine pokemon is released and slithers over the field, towering over your Tyranitar; it lets a haunting, melodious cry and you remember the day your brother told you enthusiastically over the phone that he had just caught the world’s most ugliest Pokemon - Feebas - after two weeks of nothing but extreme fishing in Hoenn and now his hardwork has paid off. Milotic wipes the floor with your Tyranitar in one move, and it's the move you just used - Surf. Damn it. Glenn's knocked out Garchomp and Tyranitar. You've only managed to defeat Mimikyu. Raihan and Allister have been dutifully watching from the sidelines and you've not been on the losing side for a long time. It's not good at all.
With Starmie's pokeball in hand, you let your psychic starfish return to the field and thunderbolt the shit out of Glenn's Milotic - you can't help but mentally apologise to it, wondering if it was a good idea to push your Starmie so hard like this but your pokemon manages to take it down in one hit. Glenn recalls Milotic and his next battler is Excadrill - who has returned with a vengeance - and in a revenge-fuelled attack, your Starmie is knocked out after being smacked around with one Iron Head. You recall Starmie and thank him profusely before reaching for your next fighter.
"Go, Whimsicott!" Once your pokemon emerges, it jumps up and down with a cheerful trill and you immediately issue a command: "Moonblast!" Your pokemon obeys and quickly unleashes a bright beam of light from it's body that covers the entire area - but Excadrill dodges and Glenn quickly instructs it to use Earthquake. You hurriedly tell your Whimsicott to use Cotton Guard and after the ground stops shaking violently, your Whimsicott is still standing albeit a huge chunk of its health has been whittled low.
Your jaw hangs in mid-air as Excadrill returns to its stance in front of Glenn, despite it's HP being low too, it's still going strong. Fists clinching, you remember how powerful his Excadrill is - and you're stunned when Glenn recalls it once again and picks up another pokeball. Releasing it, Hawlucha appears, throwing its little arms up in the air before it moves to a fighting stance. You're not surprised when his Hawlucha speedily takes down your Whimsicott using a Hone Claws and Acrobatics combo. You're onto your last healthy pokemon now - a very dangerous situation - and Togekiss emerges before you instruct it to use Air Slash. Unfortunately, Hawlucha dodges the attack thanks to its insane speed and agility and Glenn uses High Jump Kick which successfully connects with your pokemon and knocks it out.
It was so...quick.
Upon realisation that the majority of your team has been completely wiped out in one hit or less by your brother's pokemon, you can't stop shaking. Metagross is your last pokemon. You have no choice but to let him return to the field and Glenn recalls Hawlucha, using Excadrill once more. You command Metagross to use Hammer Arm but Excadrill destroys Metagross with another Earthquake which your pokemon can't avoid. You wince when Metagross collapses and crashes to the ground, its eyes closed; the earth trembles fiercely and mud and dirt explodes into the air. The woods grow quiet at once following the defeat of your pokemon.
The battle is over.
"I...I lost?" You murmur out in disbelief. But it felt so one-sided... you were no match for Glenn at all...
Raihan and Allister make their way over to you but you're devastated; you can't focus on them at all. In fact, you feel hazy...your head is throbbing, cloudy. Everything is so unclear right now. You cannot register this. How? How could this happen? You've lost. Glenn is too strong; although you both EV-trained your pokemon, he's on a completely different level.
...Glenn is unbeatable.
Raihan helps lift you back onto your feet and props you up to stand in front of him. Finally, you swerve your gaze to him but you're dazed. Your gaze passes through him as though you’re in thick fog. His mouth moves; he's speaking but you don't hear. Instead, you throw your glance to your downed Metagross and your heartbeat speeds up, your breath shortening.
You lost.
"Hey, look at me." Raihan cups your cheeks, his hands are large and warm. "Look at me. C'mon."
You blink and inhale sharply; returning to reality, you let out a noisy wheeze and gasp and look up at him. He stands in front of you, peering into your face. "Raihan?" You squeak.
"Are you okay?"
You shake your head.
He brings you into a hug and you bury your face into his chest. You close your eyes briefly, sinking into his embrace whilst Lickilicky and Kricketune look at you, then sadly avert their gazes to their trainer. You feel this loss is totally your fault - ever since you left Johto and moved to Galar, you feel you've slacked off, you made wrong choices, weren't quick enough...you haven't been working hard... You've let your pokemon down.
"Glenn." You croak out next; you gently pull yourself free from Raihan's grip, turning to your brother, "Glenn, please..."
"Glenn is no longer here." Your brother says, "He will stay with us from now on."
You take a step forwards, desperate. "No, please! Don't take my brother away!" You wail as you squeeze your eyes shut, "Glenn, wake up!! Glenn!"
...
"Glenn, this is your little sister."
There's a little girl presented in front of him, holding onto the strings of a Drifloon. She has a permanent sunken expression and there are a few bruises and marks on her face and arms.
Before he can ask what happened to her, his mum tells him, "Go play with her. Be nice."
"Okay, mum."
His parents told him that he will have a little sister; he didn't realise it would be so soon, however. His mum leaves him to it and he stares at this little girl and she stares at him.
"I got you a present." He says, handing her a pokeball.
She throws her glance at it limply.
"Go on."
When she presses the button, a small fox-like pokemon appears. It's an Eevee. It shakes itself before looking up at her. Her jaw drops slightly.
"Hehe, she's cute, right? Do you want to play with her?"
There is no response.
"I have one too! So, what do you want to do? Do you want to dress up as pokemon?"
She doesn't say anything. She doesn't even blink.
"Great!" He exclaims, before he makes her sit down on the floor of the living room and he grabs his toy box and pulls it over. Rifling through, he lifts out a Hydreigon hood along with two Hydreigon sock puppets and dons them, slipping the hood over his head and the sock puppets over each hand. "RAAAAARGH! I'm a scary Hydreigon, raaaargh! I shoot lasers from my mouth - pew pew pew!"
It's silent, so he lifts up the hood to see the little girl has actually stood up and waddled over to mum, who's in the kitchen. The Drifloon and Eevee begins to follow her. They exchange some words before she slowly returns to Glenn. She watches as he continues to dash around the lounge, imitating the dark dragon pokemon, and she sits down; glancing at Drifloon and Eevee, she reaches for the small pokemon and hugs them.
Days pass.
He hasn't had much success in getting his little sister out of her shell, but she's been watching and following him around a lot albeit she maintains a distance from him. When he plays tag with his Mimikyu, he knows she wants to join in too but she won't speak up - instead, choosing to silently observe from the side. When he plays water gun with his Eevee, he spots her staring from afar as well. The days continue to pass and one day, he grows exhausted playing dress up as a Hydreigon so he goes through his box and finds a Caterpie onesie which he quickly puts on. As usual, she watches from a safe distance as he begins pencil rolling over the floor.
"Caterpie!" He yells, "I'm a Caterpie! Caterpie, Caterpie, yeah!"
"....Can I be Weedle?"
He stops, and looks up. She's said something.  "Weedle?"
She nods.
"Of course!" He searches his box for another costume and fishes out the Weedle hood. It has a pink nose and a horn and he abruptly hands her it.
She puts it on and says, "Weedle-wee-wee."
...
Glenn laughs.
You stare, eyes wide. In fact, everyone is staring at him now. Glenn laughs harder and harder and suddenly, he pulls his hand free from Shiinotic. "I remember that." He says, chuckling.
Gawking, you cannot believe your eyes. "...Glenn?"
He blinks, turning to you and your group. "Hey sis! Thanks for coming to get me!" He waves at you with a grin, before he glances around himself and spots Shiinotic by his side; it stares at him in stunned silence, much like how you did before. "Oh, hi there."
You can't help but smile widely, the corners of your eyes well up with tears that threaten to fall. "Glenn, you're okay!" You croak out with relief; Raihan lets go of you so you can rush over and throw your arms around him. You're not alone; Kricketune and Lickilicky follow suit and join the hug.
"Whoa!" Glenn exclaims, exchanging glances between you and his pokemon as you pile onto him, "Yep, I'm fine. Sorry for making you worry."
When you release him, he moves to kneel in front of the mushroom pokemon who blinks blankly at him. "I'm really sorry, but I can't stay here with you. The woods are fine, it was just that little douchebag digging up wishing stars. It's not under threat. I'm flattered you want me to stay and protect all you guys but...you don't need me."
Shiinotic looks at him silently, then slowly averts its gaze to the ground.
"Buuuut, you could come with me if you want?" Glenn offers with a grin, and it looks up again, nodding. "Great!" Your brother grabs a spare pokeball from his bag and lifts it up, pressing on the button; Shiinotic's blank expression shifts to a happy one as it vanishes into the capsule and Glenn moves to stand up and greets Kricketune and Lickilicky; they cling onto him, rubbing their faces affectionately against his waist and he chuckles. "Aww, I missed you too! Whoa, wait, who are these guys?"
"Oh, um, Glenn, this is Raihan and Allister." You introduce the two gym leaders who had been watching your interaction keenly. "They helped me look for you."
"Thanks, and thanks for looking after my sis too." Glenn says sheepishly and you watch as the gym leaders introduce themselves to Glenn; ultimately, your brother throws his glance to Raihan, rubbing his chin. "Are you two dating?"
Your face grows red whilst Raihan chuckles and wraps an arm around your shoulder.
Well, that pretty much answers the question and Glenn merely grins wider in response. "Let's get outta here."
"Sure."
"Wait, we just battled, right?"
"Er, yeah."
"And I won?"
"Yeah." You utter, before you sigh and rummage through your bag for your purse; Rotom flies out, hovering beside you. "Okay, how much do I owe you? Rotom, can you help work it out please?"
"Bzzt, you got it! If my calculationzzz are correct, the total izzz four thousand eight hundred pokedollarzzz."
"Er-hem." Glenn coughs into his fist loudly, "I believe my Excadrill was holding an Amulet Coin."
Throwing your glance to the mole pokemon, it's then you see a shiny gold bar dangling off its neck via a gold chain which makes you scratch your head in confusion.
"Oh, my apologiezzzz. You actually owe Pokemaniac Glenn nine thousand six hundred pokedollarzzz."
Before you can retort,  Raihan squeezes your shoulder tightly and says, "Don't worry, I'll pay."
"What!? Raihan, no, don't."
Even Glenn looks surprised. "It's okay, I was kidding."
However, Raihan merely smiles at you as he fishes around his pockets and begins pulling out a wad of notes which he promptly hands to your brother. The two of you look at him, stunned.
...
Meanwhile.
Watching the group from his spot behind the trees, Eli moves to stand. That pokemon battle was the most intense battle he'd ever witnessed in his life; he had never seen anything like it. Not only did Raihan take away the title of Hammerlocke's gym leader from him, but his girlfriend is insanely strong too. How the hell can Raihan be so lucky? Annoyed, Eli curls his fist as he mulls over this but then his Rotom rings and he plucks the phone out, swiping the screen.
"Hello?"
"Eli, where are you?"
"I'm in the Glimwood Tangle; where are you?"
"On my way to Rose Tower. Did you find them?"
"Yeah." He throws his glance to his bag, which is bulging with Wishing Stars he dug up from the forest. "I'll meet you there, Bede."

Transcript: Peter and Leon Draisaitl in a double interview ahead of the NHL Global Series Challenge
[This is a little rough, yo. Obviously not an exact translation but I tried to stay as true to the original wording as possible while getting the general meaning across properly. The result is a bit stilted. Rick Goldmann (interviewer) speaks a dialect that obviously doesn’t translate here and Peter mumbles a bit in places so I had to take some liberties there. The general tone of the interview is jokey and casual, Leon and his dad are bantering, but there’s heartfelt and serious bits too! I also chose to keep ‘Papa’ (dad) and ‘Mama’ (mom) in their original German bc I think it’s cute, lol. But anyway, YEET! Let me know what you think. Theres two lil McDrai moments in there if you squint.]
I LOVE YOU ANON THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY MCFREAKING DAY IM GONNA READ IT NOW AND THEN SOUND OFF IN THE TAGS WHEN IM DONE. THANK YOU. YOUR HARD WORK IS VERY APPERICATED.
This is the interview for anyone wondering
Rick Goldmann: Welcome, Peter and Leon Draisaitl, to what I’m going to call a ‘family interview‘ here on Sport1 [channel name]. I’m guessing this kind of interview, a double interview, has been done more frequently recently now that you [Peter] are the coach in Cologne [of the Kölner Haie ‘Cologne Sharks’, Colognes Hockey team in the DHL, the German pro Hockey league] and you [Leon] are here [in Cologne]. How often has this happened so far?
Peter: Not really that often. We’ve maybe done it one or two times, three maximum. It hasn’t been that many times.
Leon: Yes [agreeing noises]
RG: So you’re not getting tired of it?
L: Not yet, no. I think we still have quite a bit of that ahead of us in the following days, especially before the game.
P: Yes.
RG: Let’s just start at the beginning. You could say that you two spent the summer here in Cologne together. What did that look like?
Peter: Leon spent two bigger chunks of time in Prague, where he prepared with his trainer. We took a vacation together for three weeks, in Spain. When we were in Cologne, he [Leon] trained here with us [the Kölner Haie] to get ready, both ‘dry’ [gym etc.] training and going out on the ice with us. [Starts grinning] But by now he’s hanging out with the boys more rather than spending time at home with us.
PG: So when you’re in Cologne, Leon, you stay with your Papa?
L: Yes, with my parents.
RG: Who’s responsible for cooking? Not you.
L: Not me, no. [Huffs] Certainly not me. Mama, mostly, when we eat at home.
RG: Okay. But you went on vacation together. You did that together this summer. It’s been a brutally hot summer. I heard you actually don’t enjoy water that much. Is that true? If yes, how did you even survive?
L: Where did you hear that?
RG: Maybe I didn’t come prepared.
L: No, it’s true, I’m not much of a … I mean I do like cooling off, but if I do it’s more likely to be in a pool rather than the big open sea where you never know what’s swimming around underneath you.
RG: So you respect the ocean?
L: Yeah, for sure.
P: I could prove that with a picture or two.
RG: Where did that come from? Has that been the case since he was little?
P: Hmm. Yeah, actually, he was still wearing those little red … what’s the word?
L: Water wings.
P: …water wings or whatever they’re called, and he already didn’t trust the water back then. And he has kept that up to this day.
RG: [Jokingly] Did you not inflate them properly?
P: [Laughs] That’s certainly possible.
RG: I’ve heard something else along with you not liking the water – that in juniors, you actually didn’t play hockey for a year. [Leon nods] How did that happen and what did you think of that, Peter?
L: Yeah I mean my parents were actually pretty… they essentially supported me in whatever… from the beginning it was clear that if I didn’t like Hockey, it wouldn’t be a big problem. I essentially tried out every sport; I’ve played golf, I’ve played tennis… I experimented a lot, and there was a time when Hockey for me was – I think it was actually because we were moving house, moving house a lot annoyed me about Hockey so I stopped playing for a year and played soccer, but it turned out that wasn’t for me [chuckles].
P: [Chuckling]
RG: [to Peter] What did you think? He’s not a soccer player? Or did you not care?
P: Let’s be serious for a while: If he had stuck with soccer, that would’ve been fine for us. We realized, or learned, or understood early on that there’s no sense in pressuring your children into it. Just because I was stomping around somewhere sometime [aka playing hockey], that doesn’t mean he absolutely has to do the same thing. If he had told me; ‘Papa, golf, tennis suits me more’ that would have been…
Leon: Fencing.
P: …been fine for our family. Fencing, sure. With your motor skills… I don’t think so. [Leon grins] It would’ve been okay. I don’t remember, was it even a full year?
L: I don’t know either. Not sure if it was a whole year.
P: He dipped his toes into it, at Fortuna was it?
L: [Offended] That’s Fortuna Düsseldorf. It was Victoria Köln.
P: Or Victoria. No idea.
L: Victoria Köln, yes.
P: But I think that stopped after a few weeks or so.
L: Because they wouldn’t let me take the free kick once, yeah.
RG: That made you not want to do it anymore?
L: Yeah, I lost my motivation after that.
[All laugh]
P: He came back to Hockey after that.
RG: If there’s a list of things you guys don’t want to hear anymore: How far up there is ‘The German Gretzky?’
L: You mean as a nickname?
RG: Yeah, that people call you that.
L: Ehhh, Actually… I try to distance myself from that a little bit, nicknames and all that. Stuff like that tends to come from the media anyway, and if they enjoy writing stuff like that, whatever, go ahead.
RG: Of course it comes from the media, but you still notice it. As a former player I’d say how do you come up with bullshit like that, but they need their headlines. When you heard it the first time, what did you think about it, Peter?
P: As I’m sure you can imagine I wasn’t exactly thrilled with it, because it puts unnecessary pressure on the young guys. Like everyone in this sport knows, there has only ever been one and there will only ever be one [Wayne Gretzky], and that comparison with the name alone already isn’t fair. And in the end it doesn’t even make any sense. But it’s actually pretty cool that Leon is able to – and has always been able to – absorb stuff like that and then put it aside. He doesn’t dwell on it when he generates headlines like that, generates ‘hype’ like that, as it’s already happened in the past, with the junior draft and the NHL draft, interviews and so forth. So far he’s always handled it pretty professionally.
RG: You’ve brought up an interesting aspect: the mental aspect in professional sports. Especially now with how Hockey has developed, maybe in comparison with other players in the DHL, in Europe, with the NHL - what kind of importance does it have for you? The ‘mental strength’ as some people call it?
L: In my personal opinion, over 90% of it takes place in your head. Without wanting to disrespect anyone, when I train with the guys here: they’re not slower – well maybe when compared to someone like McDavid – but generally they’re not slower, their shooting isn’t worse than that of the guys I train with overseas, but in my opinion it’s something in your head. It’s all mental games, mental stuff that plays a huge role in Hockey, and in sports in general.
RG: [to Peter] If you think back to your career and you compare it to Leons, what would you like to have that he does and you didn’t?
P: If you move beyond the fact that times were different back then – no videos, no social media – the NHL was so far removed from us for most players, and definitely for me, that I wasn’t even thinking about it. But putting that aside, maybe his maturity or his mental strength. Because I figured out pretty late what this sport was about, I wasted years of my time playing hockey by not taking it seriously as a team sport, not knowing what it meant to be part of a greater whole. Where I needed to position myself to be actually useful. And he [Leon] understood that much earlier.
RG: If you had to describe him as a player how would you do that?
P: As someone who … maybe partially already is, but will definitely succeed in being a dominant two-way player. Who, with his skills, should be able to carry a line, to lead and direct a group of five players. Moreover he has the ability to score - to set up plays and also score himself. I don’t think I’m wrong when I say that Leon is developing that way. I think that’s his overarching goal he wants to reach, so he can compete with the superstars of our sport. People like Crosby, who have already won tons of stuff, who have proven not just once but over and over again that when it really counts, they can bring it.
RG: [to Leon] How would you rate that evaluation by a coach, by your Papa?
L: He knows me, of course. He knows that it’s my goal to get there someday, to be a two-way forward that can score goals but who doesn’t think he’s above doing the dirty work defensively. Who takes important face-offs and who’s a complete, all around good hockey player.
RG: Leon, this year was the first time you’ve done your prep work in Cologne. How did that happen and why did you choose to do your training camp for the NHL season in Germany?
L: I’m from here. I grew up here. This is the perfect scene for me, and with my dad as a coach here, it gives me every opportunity to prepare successfully and well. A weight room, I can go on the ice, every day, use the gym every day, so that’s a no brainer for me.
RG: When you’re on the ice here, your Papa is the coach. What’s that situation like for you, when he’s the one blowing the whistle?
L: [Grinning] By now I’ve gotten used to it a little. Since I’ve always kind of done it like that over the years, that I go train wherever my dad happens to be at the time. Sometimes when he gets a little louder it’s a bit weird for me, because I only know my Papa from what he’s like at home, talking shit, joking around. So when it gets serious all of a sudden… but other than that it’s pretty normal. I know it’s a business, I know this is his job and I’m smart enough to separate that from home life.
RG: So I guess that means when you were little, you were just like all the other kids, following your dad into the locker room and getting to know Hockey like that. Was it essentially a pre-decided thing that you’d get into hockey yourself?
L: If you follow basic logic, of course that had something to do with it. I don’t know, a couple of weeks ago I saw pictures of me where I could barely walk and was wearing a giant red helmet and gloves that were half my…
P: And a pacifier, don’t forget that. A pacifier.
L: …half my entire body size. So of course I got into it via my dad. But I think the passion, to a certain degree, you have to develop yourself.
RG: When you think back, what’s the first thing you remember of your dad in regards to Hockey?
L: For me, the coolest thing was after the game when the kids were allowed to come down and onto the ice and were handed over the glass by one of the parents. Then taking a victory lap with Papa, that was the best… I always loved that.
P: And my back check at Schalke.
L: And his back check at Schalke in 2010, that was also…
P: Formative. Formative, definitely.
L: I’ll never forget that.
RG: Your back check at Schalke?
P: Yeah, I burned my equipment after that. Before the game there was a match against the Grasbrunner (?) guys, a pre-game.
RG: At the World Cup Germany were hosting? In front of 70000 people?
P: Exactly, yeah. That was when I realized…
L: Let it go. Hang them up.
P: Stop playing.
L: Give it up.
P: And that was the last time I played a hockey game.
RG: Oh, really?
P: Yeah.
RG: Mine too, by the way.
P: There you go.
RG: I saw you and thought to myself: better not try again.
P: That’s it, now it’s over.
RG: When did you realize what kind of talent Leon had, the potential he had?
P: The first time I thought it could be enough for a higher level was when I was overseas at Prince Albert and it was starting to look likely he’d get drafted at the junior draft, or rather the NHL draft, relatively highly. And then you obviously have the hope, if you’re talking about the first round or something, that he could end up in the best league, in the NHL.
RG: [to Leon] You’re 22 years old, turning 23, how much would you say have you reached your potential as a hockey player?
L: I’d say I have a lot more in me. Or rather, I know I have a lot more to give. At 22 no Hockey player, no athlete is at the point he can reach by 26, 27, 28. It’s a process I’m looking forward too, but I also know it’s very hard work. I’ll try to get better and better each year.
RG: Now there’s going to be this game, the global series that’s taking place here. The game was sold out within 10 minutes. When did you first find out there would be the opportunity to play against an NHL team as a coach here in Cologne?
P: I don’t remember, or I somehow… [Leon murmuring] excuse me?
L: I think it was through me.
P: That’s possible. I think at first I didn’t even realize it. I heard about the Oilers playing here, I thought it was a joke at first. When it became official I thought okay, well, this is a fact now. Again, for ‘Kölle’ [nickname for the city in the regional accent] this game, and the winter game later in the season, are huge, fantastic events awaiting us. I think this event, this game against the Oilers will be really fun for everyone involved.
RG: The global series, Leon, to explain the basics, what’s the idea behind it? Why does the NHL play games abroad, in Europe?
L: I think it’s to push markets in countries where Hockey isn’t as popular. To increase the importance of Hockey worldwide, and especially in countries where it’s relatively unknown, like China, like Germany, I don’t know where else. Or in smaller countries, to push the sport. I think the NHL is doing a really good job, and I personally really like that they’re doing these kinds of matches. I think for the DHL teams as well, or with New Jersey in Switzerland, for the Swiss teams, it’s a highlight and everyone is looking forward to it.
RG: In this game, Edmonton Oilers vs. Kölner Haie, how important is the Draisaitl vs. Draisaitl duel? It’s not every day you get the chance to beat your dad, and it’s not every day you get to coach against an NHL team either.
P: Well this is going to be his only chance, because in table tennis and every other game [Leon protests by puffing up his cheeks and laughing] he can’t keep up, so maybe Wednesday will be the only time he gets the opportunity. But I don’t see them beating us yet.
L: [Grinning, then mock-serious] This is going to be one of many times I’ll beat my dad, in various things. No, like he said, it’s going to be an outstanding event, for our family it’s going to be special as well. And I think for them [Kölner Haie] it will be the hardest, I think they don’t quite know what’s in store for them yet. Being neutral is [unintelligible]
RG: If you absolutely had to pick a player from Edmonton to play with the Kölner Haie – and you have to, otherwise you’d say you wouldn’t take any – you need to take one.
P: I have to, yes.
RG: Who would you pick?
P: He would start right now? For the season?
RG: Yeah, exactly. Who do you pick?
P: I’ll have to think for a little bit. There’s quite a few who are… I would have to decide between McDavid and Leon. But you only want one.
RG: Yeah, and why you’d pick him. Who and for what reason.
P: I’d pick McDavid. Leon will have to deal with that.
L: [Mockingly] Incomprehensible. Can’t understand that choice.
P: He needs to be strong now.
RG: if you had to pick one for Edmonton – one of the Cologne guys.
L: From the Cologne team. Hmm. [clicks his tongue] Pfohli [Fabio Pfohl]. I think he has the potential. His Hockey IQ is on a really high level. In my opinion it should be his goal to play in the NHL.
P: Okay.
RG: [to Peter] You’ll stick with your choice? McDavid?
P: [nodding]
L: [grinning, shaking his head] Can’t understand that.
[All laughing]
RG: Okay, thank you!

From working hard on her studies before the massacre, Zoya has high intelligence. Zoya is also very skilled in playing the piano. After becoming adopted, Zoya is currently trained under Hisoka in learning how to fence, and how to do housework under Zoya’s request to learn more. ~
History:
Born under her true name of “Phoebe Neve”, Zoya lived in a mansion isolated from society in the Human world. Zoya was born as the Heiress of the Neve family, a family of pureblooded vampires rumored to be extinct centuries ago; However, despite not given parental love from her parents whom are always away, Zoya still respected them and did as she was told to do to meet their expectations as the Heiress as they are her parents and the only other people in her life other than the servants; This was her way of coping with her loneliness. One day, A group of hunters found the mansion and attacked everyone in it; Only Zoya was able to escape and survive under her parents instructions, which was the first and last time they gave her any kind of parental warmth; However, Zoya didn’t realize this as she believed it was only for them to succeed keeping the bloodline alive. For a while, she reached a town, where she lived in the streets for quite some time. From there, she has witnessed many things; Seeing married women throwing themselves at other men, men taking advantage of drunk women, Prostitutes working at night, etc; An incident that traumatized Zoya was a drunk man that mistaken her as a prostitute and tried to have his way with her by touching her, which resulted to her escaping barely; This incident resulted to her fear of being touched by strangers. Sometime later, Zoya was found by hunters and was rescued by Hisoka, whom brought her to her home after the vampire fainted. Meeting Ruki and Hisoka, they both gave Zoya a choice: Either to accept their protection and live with them with the condition they adopt her, or refuse their protection and they won’t stop her decision of leaving. Choosing to accept their protection, Zoya was given her new name by Hisoka, meaning “Life” in Russian. Despite being cynical initially even after being adopted, Zoya eventually warmed up to them afterwards; Eventually, She became close with her new siblings, especially Zion.
~
Trivia:
•  Due to her interactions while living on the streets, Zoya developed  Haphephobia (a fear of being touched); Zion has become the first person to be able to touch her after becoming close.
• Zoya’s first crush was Kanaye Sakamaki; This came to an end after she found out his relationship with Isabella Sakamaki, where Zoya struggles with her first heartbreak due to her lack of knowledge of affection, but was able to overcome it.
• Out of her siblings, Zoya is the most innocent in terms of sexual topics.
•Although Zoya has an interest in learning new things, She at times does feel embarrassed when she isn’t able to understand something simple to everyone.
•Because She is technologically-challenged, Zoya is unable to leave home unless she is with someone she knows, mostly Zion.
•Zoya’s real name “Phoebe Neve”; “Phoebe” is found in Greek mythology as a name for Artemis, the goddess of the moon, while “Neve” is “snow" in Italian and in Portugese.
•Zoya’s favorite song to play on the piano is Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune”; As it is a song that always helps her through whenever she feels loneliness or sadness.
•Zoya is very hardworking when it comes to studying, which is why she gets excellent grades in her classes.
•Due to being socially awkward, Zoya doesn’t know how to interact with others well; Thus, she tries observing other people in order to understand.
•Because of the incident, Zoya never leaves the house without wearing black shorts underneath her clothes.
•Since Zoya doesn’t know what BDSM means or actually is, Juliet lied and told her it meant “Bible discussion and study meeting”; This is mainly because of Juliet’s own entertainment, rather than wanting to keep Zoya’s mind innocent.

Season 14 Episode 5: Danger Zone
Songs of the Episode:
Push It by Salt-N-Pepper
The Gambler by Kenny Rogers
Heartbeats by Aron Wright
Across the Room by Odesza ft. Leon Bridges
Synopsis:
The episode opens with a flashback of Owen in Iraq. Here we see the familiar faces of Teddy and Megan as they judge Owen’s relationship with Beth (a past girlfriend). Then Amelia wakes him back to the reality of being back in Seattle, where we see him saying goodbye to Megan as she’s leaving for Los Angeles.
In LA: Farouk and Riggs are at their new home setting up everything before Megan’s arrival.
In Iraq: Megan goes to get Riggs by scaring him awake. They had previously been fighting but that over now and she begins to open up to him about how nervous she is about the Strat rankings (she needs to be ranked number one in order to be a flight surgeon). As she’s moving about she finds a necklace, in which Riggs then proposes to her with. They meet up with Teddy and Owen to fly out on the chopper.
In Seattle: Owen’s trying to convince Megan to stay, but she’s determined to leave. In Iraq: They reveal the strat ranked number one, but it’s not Megan. Then they get a major call and are forced to refocus their energy on the incoming soldiers/civilians/patients.
In Seattle, Owen decides to go with Megan as she drives to LA.
In Iraq, Megan is mad that she didn’t rank number one and is convinced that Owen didn’t recommend her. But before they can continue their fight, Megan must go help a woman who doesn’t want to be touched by man. Across the tent, Teddy is working on the gunman, and asks Riggs to scrub in with her.
In LA: Riggs and Farouk are working on the house together, when Farouk begins to get overwhelmed by all of the new changes headed his way.
In Iraq, Teddy confronts Nathan about the necklace engagement and about who the necklace really belongs to... Turns out it’s the women he cheated on Megan with’s necklace and it’s engraved… whoops.
On the road: Megan and Owen take a short stop at the old fair grounds they hung out at as kids.
In Iraq: Megan is still treating the women who took down the shooter by giving her a chest tube. Megan is still infuriated with Owen, and blames him for her dream being crushed. Teddy and Rigga are also still working together and Teddy is furious.
In LA: Riggs is on the phone setting up job interviews, when Faruk wants to help by putting his fan together.
On The Road: Megan and Owen are making bets and having fun by playing ring toss, but things turn bitter when he bets that if he wins she must stay in seattle (and he wins). She begins to storm away, but stops to tell him that she’s still angry about being the Strat ranks.
In Iraq: Owen and Megan are working on a patient together, when he says something that leads her to believe that he in fact didn’t recommend her as the number one Strat. Given he said that she “dodged a bullet” and when she asked if he recommended her their patient began to crash (forcing them change topics).
In LA: Riggs just ends a call with Megan when he goes to tell Farouk that she’s gonna be late, but he can’t find him anywhere!!!
In Iraq: Owen and Megan are arguing about the best treatment plan, when she decides to take matters into her own hands.
In LA: Riggs finally finds Farouk. He was by a food truck on the beach, where he wanted to help by grabbing them dinner but became consumed by the choices. (Something he had never experienced before).
In Iraq: Riggs tell Teddy that he regrets cheating, but she had no remorse for him. Meanwhile, Owen is angry with Megan for going against his treatment plan, but she proves him wrong by saving both the guy’s arm and his life.
On The Road: Owen and Megan are still arguing. She tells him that she had everything planned out and that he ruined it. Finally, he admits that he did tank her recommendation because he thought she was childish and would’ve died if she’d made special forces. But really what it all comes down to is that he was too scared to let her go, which is no excuse to hold her back from her dreams. And he goes even further to say that he would do it again. In an attempt to hurt him back she admits that his nickname in Iraq, diamond, was created because he was so uptight and that she was the one who came up with it.
In LA: Riggs comforts Farouk by telling him that while change is scary, it’s also a really good thing. He goes even further to say that it’s okay not to know all the answers and that together they’ll make it through.
In Iraq: Teddy tells Riggs that he’s gotta tell Megan the truth. He admits to being scared of losing her, but she points out that in order for them to have a change, that he must tell her.
On The Road: Owen finally admits that he was wrong, but ruins it by continuing to push her to stay in Seattle. She gets so fed up that she chooses to kick him outta the car.
In Iraq: Megan refuses to go with Owen in the helicopter because she’s still mad at him. And Owen is angry that she won’t go and that she’s so mad about the strat. He thinks she should focus on her engagement and be happy, totally missing the point that that’s not her dream. Teddy snaps and yells at him for not embracing his sister’s dream and how he just crushed it. (She also brings up how difficult it is to watch someone else live your dream, one that you would be willing to give anything for, hinting that she’s in love with him and that he’s oblivious, or as she says an idiot). Owen leaves anyway.
On The Road: Owen says he’s not leaving her again (finally he’s beginning to show his true intentions). Megan can’t stand that he keeps trying to make decisions for her and how judgmental he’s been about Riggs for cheating (and her for staying with him). She just wants to be happy and live her life and appreciate it all after everything she's been through. She also throws back in his face the fact that he cheated on Christina and that he shouldn’t be so judgmental. But then she finally tells him the truth, that she cheated on Nathan first.
In Iraq: Riggs confronts Megan only to find out that she cheated first. Then he admits that he cheated too. She gets so angry and humiliated, but doesn’t have the time to sort things out with him because she’s called to treat her patient (with the chest tube). Megan tells Owen that she needs the helicopter for the female patient and wants to ride along even though it's against protocol, he is hesitant at first, but when she tells him that Riggs cheated on her he says yes right away. Across the tent, Teddy talks to a soldier, and finds out that the woman who is about to be transferred was in fact the shooter, not the man they originally thought! But it's too late Megan is on the helicopter with her and they’ve already taken off. And that’s the last we see of flashbacks and of Megan before she’s kidnapped.
On The Road: Owen is shocked that Riggs tell him that Megan had cheated first. Megan changes the tone, when she recalls a cherished family memory. She recounts a story from when they were growing up and how that experience got her through each day while she was kidnapped. She explains how much she loved the water (it heals her). She promised herself that she made it out alive, that she would live in California by the water. Owen admits that he’s always dreamed of raising their families together, and she tells him that he’s so loyal (almost to a fault) and that he needs to break up with some of his ideas in order to be happy.
In LA: Riggs and Farouk are laying on the mattress set up in the living room, with Faruk asleep on Riggs when he texts Meredith thank you. She receives this message in a similar position with Zola, and texts back the same, just as Megan makes it home. Megan is finally happy and they are finally a family. Owen makes it back home where he calls a quits on his marriage with Amelia because he wants them both to be happy. And they mutually decide to end it and in a somber moment they give their rings back to each other. Across the way, Megan finally gets to be in the ocean and has her dream life. And Owen is finally at peace.
A Few Additional Thoughts:
I think that this episode is important for a variety of reasons. I love how it sheds light on our troops and how their service lives on with them forever. Also thank you to Grey’s Anatomy and ABC for broadcasting a PSA about the overwhelming number of homeless veterans and the way in which we can help them. Thank you to all of the men and women who dedicate their lives to service!
It was interesting to see how maturely Owen and Amelia handled their separation. They both new what they had wasn’t working, as much as they were great together, things change. They’d grown apart and as Amelia said, she was a completely different person given her brain tumor. I hope this gives her time to figure out who she is outside of her tumor and outside of a relationship.  I also think that now that Megan is safe, Owen can finally be at ease and that this will allow him to finally heal. He could benefit from taking some time to get to know himself and maybe start exploring a new life with Teddy. I see a lot of growth in their futures.
I’m so happy that Megan, Riggs, and Farouk are happy. Now she can finally be at peace and heal alongside the ocean as she’s dreamed about for so long. It’s so beautiful to see how her story played out and that she gets the happy ending she deserves. We’ll miss them!
I would also like to point out how cool it was for Riggs to thank Meredith. They really both played a major role in each other’s lives. Riggs helped Meredith realize that she has the capability of loving again, even if she’s already had the great love of her life. And Riggs was able to open up to someone and heal and finally be with his love of his life Megan. Ultimately, they both helped each other heal.
