"Brawl Busters" (1978) was a martial arts film that was advertised as being from the "Chinese Black Belt Society" in an opening card. Not only does this group not exist, the movie isn't even Chinese, but Korean. It was common for a lot of Korean films of this era to be set in China and have a Hong Kong cast. The film also was said to star "Black Jack Chan," who not only was not in the film, but also doesn't exist at all. As the images above show, it is a female led martial arts film.

This deeply strange credit to a made up Kung Fu Society and a claim to star a completely made up Chinese leading man was because, as surprising as it is to consider today, there was a time when it was extremely rare to have any entertainment come out of South Korea, and the producers figured it would have a bigger audience in Asia if this film was thought to be from Hong Kong. If it was known to be Korean, it would come off as a knockoff, which, to be fair, it completely was. South Korea was under military rule until the 1980s, and nearly all of its early entertainment industry was based on the blueprint of the cultural capital of Asia in the 70s-80s, Hong Kong, like Hitman in the Hand of Buddha, Woman Avenger (a Korean version of the very Chinese story of Wing Chun, famously played a decade later by Michelle Yeoh). Korean films of this era had many Hong Kong stars like Angela Mao, who made Hapkido and When Taekwondo Strikes in the early 70s there as joint Korean/Chinese productions. It also went both ways: many Korean talent in this era had to emigrate Korea to get into showbusiness, like "Thunderfoot" Hwang Jang Lee. After all...who ever heard of getting famous in entertainment in South Korea, anyway?

The SM Entertainment Group That Stood Out From The Rest With Their “Rushed” Debut

They seemed to just hope for the best!

When it comes to debuts, SM Entertainment often makes grand ones. EXO, for instance, had 23 teasers released over the span of three months in 2012.

On the flipside, the boy group that debuted before them hardly had any promotions.

SHINee is one of their original boy groups, debuting in 2008 with the song “Replay.” Though their formation took several years, their announcement to the public was quick.

SM Entertainment announced the existence of SHINee on May 19, 2008. They released the teaser images of the group on this same day as well.

Unlike with their other groups such as Red Velvet, EXO, and Girls’ Generation, the company did not slowly introduce the members one by one. They revealed all five—Minho, Onew, Jonghyun, Taemin, and Key—at the same time.

Moreover, the music video was released on May 22, just three days after the teaser images dropped.

In comparison, Red Velvet’s “Happiness” was released around one month since the member teasers were revealed while EXO’s debut music video for “MAMA” was released three months after their first teaser featuring Kai.

Netizens commented that SHINee’s debut made it seem like the company just “hoped for the best” with how short the releases were.

Regardless, SHINee’s “Replay” was a massive success. A panel of 35 music critics and industry experts from MelOn and the Seoul Shinmun even named one of the top 100 K-pop songs of all time.

It’s been confirmed by BBC that Goo Hara played a bigger role in catching the criminals involved the Burning Sun.

According to Reporter Kang, Hara reached out to her at a key point in the investigation when information on the police officer mentioned in the group chats was needed. Hara, who is close to Choi Jonghoon, confirmed that she had seen weird things on his and the other celebrities’ phones.
