🩵~What I Think The Original Digidestined Kids Would Be Like As Parents~🩵
Since I have lost writing motivation, I thought I might as well write this post instead of working on my book just to take a small break.
Anyways, to the post.
So this does not cover your screen when you're scrolling, there is a keep reading.
Tumblr media
Taichi Yagami
He would be one of the dads to absolutely not care what his kids are doing at that moment, they can do whatever they want. Discipline wise he'd be scary though, his anger issues are way too high to not be.
Tumblr media
Yamato/Matt Ishida
He is one of the chillest dads ever, could not be a bad father ever in his life. Maybe a bit of an overprotective father, but he'd be a good father. He's also the type to make the joke like "You like girls? Me too! We already have so much in common" and I stand by that. Also Second Most Divorced Dad(First goes to his own dad).
Tumblr media
Jou/Joe Kido
He would be an okay dad, I mean, not the best but he would be okay. He would be more strict about grades and stuff like that though, he would definitely be great as a dad when it comes to his child getting hurt or bleeding though. So he's just okay as a dad. The slight anger issues he has are a whole other story.
Tumblr media
Izumi/Izzy Koushiro
Depends on if he remembers he has kids or not during the day.
Tumblr media
Takeru/TK Takaishi
Chill like Matt but he's more emotionally connected to his children, and less overprotective(he is protective though.)
Tumblr media
Mimi Tachikawa
To be honest, she'd be a horrible mom. She would definitely force all her errands and stuff on her kids, it's actually scary she has kids canonically at all.
Tumblr media
Hikari/Kari Yagami/Kamiya
She'd be a good mom, there's not really that much interesting or flawed about her? Though she'd probably take everything her kid says as 100% serious. (She's extremely hard to tell.)
Tumblr media
Sora Takenouchi
Great mom, the best even. Great in all aspects of parenting too.

I love the Chosen Children, in case people get confused
So I want to take some time to make my feelings clear on some stuff in case anyone misinterprets me, as my posts/ comments can sometimes seem to contradict each other
First of all, I’m a human, and therefore my feelings on things are complex
Secondly, I am very open to hearing other people’s opinions and so my opinions are constantly being changed and shaped as I see and learn new things through the eyes of others
Third, I try to be objective and am very much in favor of constructively criticizing a character no matter how much I love them
Fourth, I’m super emotional and yeah I get angry sometimes when I see characters I love getting bashed, or seemingly getting bashed and it takes me a moment to calm down and I’m likely to lash out at first
All this being said I want to make it clear that I do not hate any of the Chosen Children, not a single one, I like all 13 of them for reasons, and I dislike all 13 of them for reasons. Some of them I love because there are more things about them that I like than things I dislike, and some I think are just okay because I dislike more things than I like. But I think every single one of them is worthy of praise and every single one of them makes me happy for one reason or another. At the same time, I think every single one of them has moments where I think they deserve criticism whether it be because I feel the writing was mediocre or because they actually have character flaws (which btw is fine, character flaws are good but that doesn’t mean we don’t acknowledge that they are flaws)
Digimon is my favourite series of all time, I can’t not want to love and praise every character that appears in it
Taichi Yagami: I love this kid so much, I could sing his praises all day and I do, I rant for hours to friends about how much I love him. That being said I have mixed feelings on his conflict in Tri and still feel I would have liked something a little different
Yamato Ishida: I love this kid so much, heck I might like him more than Taichi. That being said, I will not defend him when he does something wrong and he does have character flaws. Like when he yells at Takeru in episode 23, I think he was being a total jerk when he did that, and I think it was wrong of him. Does this mean I disliked that scene? Of course not, I love that Yamato has the flaws that he does and sometimes acts like a jerk or an idiot.
Mimi Tachikawa: My favourite female character of all time (she was briefly overthrown by Pidge from VLD but it didn’t last and she just barely surpasses Hagar Shipley from ‘The Stone Angel’, Wonder Woman can take 4th place :P). She is an incredibly well written female character who is lovable, but also has believable flaws and is well rounded. She is also an incredibly strong character and I think she should be next in line for leadership should Taichi ever die or resign. I also find I relate to her in some key areas that helped make me feel good about myself, and I honestly cry sometimes when I think about her and how much I want someone like her as a friend. That being said, like I mentioned, she has flaws, and I will reprimand her for those flaws, like in episode 25, she does a lot of shitty things in episode 25.
Koushiro Izumi: One of the few characters I don’t I have any issues with, except maybe that he’s a bit OP. His flaws boil down to being social awkward (which just makes him really endearing to me and honestly I relate to a lot of the stuff he does),and sometimes inadvertently hurting peoples feelings (specifically Mimi’s and Meiko’s but I really take his side in both cases so...). Basically, I love this character and enjoy every moment he is on screen and all of his character development, of which he gets some amazing character development, of all the kids so far in Tri his story line was my favourite.
Jyou Kido: One of the characters that when I see anything negative about him, even when it’s pointing out character flaws that I complete agree exist and are flaws, I get super defensive and am prone to lash out. I love him, but he does have character flaws and if you get me when I’m being rational and calm I will admit they are flaws but that they are also a huge reason why I love him.
Hikari Yagami: Unlike the other’s, my feelings are more mixed on this character, and I’m also super hypocritical when it comes to her. I cannot stand it when anyone says anything bad about her but then I will also say the exact same things that I get mad at people for saying. For example, if you call her a Mary-Sue I will want to punch you but then at the same time I am willing to admit that she is a Mary-Sue, and that her personality is lacking by comparison to the other 5 above. Again though I will also defend her to the end of the earth and contradict myself on a regular basis cause I’m very biased in her favour.
Sora Takenouchi: The Chosen Child I have the most complex relationship with. If someone asked me my opinion on her I’d have to admit I don’t really like her, but that’s because she is competing against such great characters that by comparison, in my opinion, she seems very lacking. However, she is a very well written female character and would rank in my top 20 female characters for sure, I just think Digimon suffers from having too many characters and if I could eliminate some of them so the others got more screen time then she’d be my first pick out of the original 8. But I was incredibly invested in every single moment she was on screen in Loss (with the exception of when she is talking to Meiko, because I didn’t care for that scene). Also, her moments with Taichi and Yamato in all of Tri are fantastic.
Takeru Takaishi: As a child I loved this kid, as an adult not so much. I find him to be a bit annoying in 01 and 02. Originally I had issues with him in Tri as well but he does have some fantastic moments, most of which happen when he is teasing his brother :P I don’t like his relationship with Hikari though, also I’m a Meikeru shipper. Overall I don’t like him that much but he has moments that make me incredibly happy and so I still like to see him.
And now onto the other 5, this is where things get complicated.
I have grown to like the 02 kids, I like Miyako, Daisuke and Ken all more than I like Sora and Takeru. That being said, when 02 was first released and Sora, Mimi, Taichi, Yamato and Jyou were all sidelined for these new characters 8 year old me was pissed off. And no matter how much I like Daisuke, Ken and Miyako, if someone said I could go back and retcon 02 in favour of a sequel that focused on the original 8 I would do it in a heartbeat.
When I say I like Meiko but feel she should not exist in Tri, it’s because I feel the exact same way about Ken, Miyako and Daisuke when it comes to 02 (though I like Daisuke, Miyako and Ken considerably more than Meiko). I just want a sequel focusing on characters I have grown to love over time and not get introduced to new ones who take time away from characters I love and want to see more of.
And yes I know that the same can be said for Hikari and how she showed up later on and took time away from the already established 7 but like I said before I am biased in her favour and aware of it.
And although I would love to see Ken, Daisuke and Miyako again I am very much okay with them not showing up because it means other characters I like more such as Taichi, Yamato, Jyou, Mimi, Koushiro and Hikari all get more screen time. The only issue I have with them not appearing is the fact that Tri acknowledges their existence and yet the Original kids are not actively freaking out that they can’t find them... there are a few times where they try to contact them and then they just leave it alone... it’s like they don’t even care all that much, so much for friendship -_-
This post is already really long so I’m not going to get into my detailed feelings on the 02 kids, just know that I like and dislike aspects of their characters and arcs same as any of the other kids and that it took a long time for me to learn to like them.
As for Meiko, I’m biased in her favour. I like Moe characters (Hinata is one of my favourite characters in Naruto), and I think she’s cute. However I also think she has many aspects that are poorly written and she has flaws for which she is never reprimanded for and this upsets me because it makes me feel like the writers are trying to tell us they aren’t actually flaws. I really can’t stand the antis or the defenders, one side does nothing but trash talk her and the other side does nothing but sing her praises, they push each other more and more into their respective corners until both sides are being completely irrational and refuse to budge.
This has been my response to the discourse as well as me explaining that just because I say negative things about a character does not mean there are not things I also love about the character and visa versa. Again, I’m human and my feelings are therefore complex.
I will conclude by saying I apologize for getting caught up in the discourse, but I just don’t like it when any character is defended to the ends of the earth by fans or bashed by fans, so I always feel the need to comment and play ‘Devil’s Advocate’... I guess, even though I know I should leave it alone.

Okay then. Yagami Taichi. So that's Y/A/G/M/I/T/C/H. And Izumi Koushiro is I/Z/U/M/K/O/S/H/R. Give us your wisdom, oh great one.
Finally answering! Thanks for your patience. OK, I’ll put the answers under a cut because I accidentally added a couple ficlets teehee. Also got Yamato and Daisuke in my inbox so will get to those soon~
Yagami Taichi and Izumi Koshiro under the cut
Yagami Taichi
Y: What is one question they’ve always wanted an answer to?
Why does what everyone else sees as courage feel so much like fear?
A: What are/were this character’s best subjects in school?
In elementary school, he just barely made the grade by in pretty much everything. Outstanding marks in P.E. Otherwise, generally too energetic and distracted for homework. He was very much that kid the teacher genuinely likes yet wishes was in someone else’s class some days…
In high school, well, Tri verse seems to have made him into a pretty standard, “life happens to me” type of high school student, but I like to think that his sense of leadership and resourcefulness would make him a bit more of a go-getter. I think he’d buckle down to some extent — perhaps for most of his high school career, soccer would be first in his mind, and some subjects would just not be his thing. But charisma, public speaking skill, and leadership ability would definitely show through in group projects, presentations, debate, that sort of thing. So I think his best subjects would probably be social studies, government, and perhaps English.
G: How do they flirt?
If he tries to flirt on purpose, he acts like Marty McFly, minues the oedipus thing. Luckily he’s not a very flirty guy. At least not at first. After he’s been in a relationship for someone in a while, however…
“Stop licking my ear.”
“But it’s delicious. I just want to eat it up.”
“I am not your dinner.”
“Of course not, you’re too sweet for that. You’re dessert!”
“That is so cheesy.”
“Would you like it if I ate cheese off your naked body, sweetums?”
(Of course, he’s really trying to be funny here, more than he is trying to flirt. In truth he remains an awkward, fairly oblivious lover his entire life, and his redeeming qualities are his positivity and affectionate nature.)
M: What is their favourite dessert?
Chocolate banana! At festivals he breaks them in half, sticks them under his tongue and parades around as a walrus. But honestly he’ll take fried food over sweets.
I: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do they love themselves?
He doesn’t really think about it. If you asked, he’d open his arms wide and say in a loud, child-like voice, “Thiiis much!” But he has his real lows as well as his real highs. Sometimes he’s bitter. Sometimes self-pitying. Sometimes he thinks someone else, anyone else, could do a better job at being Yagami Taichi than he does. But he shakes himself out of it pretty well usually, or someone helps him to it. He gets by thanks to his friends.
T: Where are they ticklish?
“I am not ticklish. At all. Anywhere.”
“You definitely are.” Yamato looked like he was struggling not to laugh, which only made Taichi frown harder.
“Maybe when I was a kid, and overreacted to everything.”
“Yesterday, when Jou tapped you on the shoulder, you started squirming around.”
“I was surprised, not ticklish. I do not have ticklish shoulders.”
“Okay,” Yamato sat down on the edge of the couch. Taichi immediately scooted back against the arm and pulled his legs in. “What are you doing?”
“I sense danger.”
“You think — I’m not going to tickle you,” Yamato sighed. Then his eyes narrowed. “But if you’re not ticklish to begin with, why are you worried?”
“Not worried,” Taichi harrumphed. “Not ticklish either.”
“Fine, you’re not ticklish.”
“I’m not.”
“I just said that.”
They fell quiet. Yamato picked up the remote, started to flick through the movie selection on TV. Meanwhile, a muscle worked in Taichi’s jaw as he sat beside him with tense, folded arms.
“Taichi.”
“Do NOT tickle me!”
“I’m not going to tickle you! I was going to tell you to unclench! I’m getting a charley horse just watching you!”
(In sum: He is not ticklish. At all. Anywhere.)
C: Can they swim well?
Like a fish. An exceedingly ungraceful fish. Like a torpedo when Sora’s in the water too and he wants to start a splash fight.
H: What is their deadly sin?
“Let’s see, there are seven deadly sins, right?” Taichi frowned. “Uh, I don’t remember what they are, so.”
Koushirou began to tick them off on his fingers. “Pride, wrath, gluttony —”
Yamato let out a low chuckle. “Gluttony, for sure.”
“You shut up.”
“Yesterday you ate the ramen and fried rice special, the large size, for lunch,” Yamato remarked, cool as you please, while glaring daggers down his nose. “After which you ate my fried rice too.”
“I was doing you a favor,” Taichi pouted. “You couldn’t finish it.”
“Admit it. You’re a glutton.”
“I’m a gourmand.”
“Pffft.”
“It’s thanks to people like me that your beloved matcha Kit-Kats became a thing.”
“— Envy, greed, sloth, and lust,” Koushirou finished, not appearing to note the interruption.
Mimi squealed. “Lust! That’s it for sure!” She clasped her hands over her chest. “If we only knew the nights he lies awake in bed, tormented by desire, confused, all alone with his turbulent teenage hormones —”
“In your dreams!” Taichi shouted.
He threw a pillow at her. She ducked. Sora lunged between them and snatched the pillow before they could begin an all out war in Koushirou’s pristine office.
“Taichi’s deadly sin is not lust.” She rolled her eyes. “Unless it’s lust for nachos.”
“Not you too,” the glutton groaned. “Gimme that pillow.”
“No.”
“You’re no fun.”
The pillow smacked him in the face. “I’m not what now?”
“How about sloth?” Hikari suggested.
All eyes turned to stare at her. She blushed. “Well, it takes him fifteen minutes to roll out of bed in the morning.”
“Traitor!” Taichi said with what the others supposed was meant to be righteous fury, but sounded rather more pitiful with his face squashed into a pillow.
“We still haven’t heard from the accused himself,” Yamato pointed out. “If Sora can be obliged to stop suffocating him for a minute.”
Sora acquiesced in favor of sitting on Yamato’s lap. Very serious, Taichi cupped his chin in his hands as he gazed at the coffee table.
“My deadly sin,” he began — pausing for dramatic effect — “is greed. I want too many things,” he went on, quietly, eyes unfocusing as if looking far into the past. Somewhere he didn’t like to go too often. “Like wanting to win without losing anything. Wanting strength without getting hurt. Wanting peace but also wanting change. I’m greedy.  I can’t… accept the way the world limits me.”
His friends stared. For a moment, thoughtful silence reigned. Then:
“So you admit to being a glutton.”
“Damnit, Yamato!” Taichi drove his fist into the arm of the couch amid the flurry of giggles that spread throughout the group. “I am trying to have a moment of self-reflection here!”
“Sorry,” Yamato said unrepentently. “Everyone, he wants a moment of self-reflection. Show some respect. No more titters for fifteen seconds.”
“Ten,” Sora corrected, “No, better make it five.”
“Better make it zero,” Taichi growled, “if you want a decent head start before I rip you all to shreds. With my teeth.”
“How about Mario Kart?” Koushirou said, digging through the box of games.
“… OK, fine. With Mario Kart.”
(You could, and probably will, argue that his sin should be pride. It’s a common one for shonen protagonists. But I’ve never really felt that Taichi is prone to pride, or arrogance. His big struggle with just that, the infamous SkullGreymon episode, isn’t enough for me to put it down a major character flaw. Taichi’s bossiness and optimism to the point of naivete don’t come from an overblown image of himself for the most part. I think he really does just, as the song goes, want it all and want it all now. And being the leader puts him in a position of constantly having to make sacrifices he doesn’t want to make. That’s my reasoning, but you’re perfectly welcome to yours.)
Izumi Koshiro
I: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do they love themselves?
He might put it at 8.4. Generally he is happy with himself. He values hard work, creativity, thirst for learning. He also values friends and family. As long as those things are first in his life, he feels pretty good. But if something slips, he beats himself up pretty hard. And he’s not so great at talking himself out of it. In those cases he needs a dose of perspective from the people who love him and understand how hard he drives himself.
Z: How do they sleep?
Like a log or not at all. Also a light snorer. The type who snores through a closed mouth while lying on his back. If he rolls over on his side, no issues.
U: What’s their voice like?
Gentle, neutral, precise, neither high nor low. Everyone listens the minute it’s colored by some emotion. Always apologizes afterward. Someone hug this kid.
M: What is their favourite dessert?
Creme brulee. He is secretly quite fancy.
K: How do you know when you’ve upset them?
Most people don’t. Those closest to him, though, find out pretty easily, because he tells them. Very frankly. (This he learned from a long friendship with a certain big-haired blockhead who doesn’t always notice when he’s being an ass.) And he forgives them quickly as well, once he knows they understand what they did that hurt him. He always wants to be fair and hates pettiness. Though now and then he has a petty moment ahaha.
O: What would it take to break them, inside and out?
WHY DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THIS.
but seriously, it would probably be losing the trust and support of his friends. He may have a bunch of solitary hobbies, but Koushirou really, deeply values his loved ones. He’s not cut out for perpetual loneliness. Similarly, if he felt like he could have helped more but didn’t, hello guilt trip.
S: How stealthy are they?
Can be quite stealthy. He’s short and soft-spoken, easy to overlook. But the reason why he wants to be stealthy tends to influence his judgment. Case in point…
“Koushirou…” Taichi stared, jaw hanging open a bit, giving him a rather stupid look which Koushirou felt compelled to warn him off. But before he could say a word, Taichi linked his arm around Koushirou’s neck and dragged him bodily down the hallway to the boys’ restroom.
Inside, he found the farthest unoccupied stall and, to Koushirou’s extreme confusion, locked them both inside.
“You’re not going to dunk my head in the toilet, are you?”
“Excuse you, what do you take me for, some kind of boneheaded jock? Wait, don’t answer that.”
Taichi looked nervously through the crack by the door hinges. “Taichi-san, what are we doing?” Koushirou sighed.
“What are we doing? What are you doing? What is that,” he cried, pointing emphatically at Koushirou’s collar.
“This?” Reaching up, Koushirou’s fingers adjusted the purple bowtie he’d painstakingly selected to match his silk lilac shirt. “This is a bowtie.”
“It looks you pinned some kind of moth through your button hole.”
Koushirou’s brow knit. “Does it? I thought it made me look sort of dressed up.”
“Why would you want to though?”
“Well, we are at a dance, you know. I just wanted to make sure I blend in. It would be horrible if tomorrow everyone was talking about how I was the only one inappropriately dressed.”
“Uh, I hate to say this, but haven’t you noticed that nearly all of the guys came in their school uniforms?” To illustrate his point, Taichi gestured at his own attire. He had indeed come in his school clothes. His shirt was even tucked in for once.
A streak of crimson colored Koushirou’s face. He looked down. Taichi’s eyes darted back and forth as he struggled to come up with something to say. Just then, the bathroom door swung open.
“Taichi, Koushirou, if you two are in here, come out before Mimi accosts every last person looking for you,” Yamato called in a tone of deep longsuffering.
Without opening the stall door, Taichi replied: “What does she want us for?”
“To take a picture.”
Koushirou groaned. “Tell her I’m sick… Taichi-san… I can’t go back out there like this!”
“Why not?” Yamato asked impatiently. It sounded like he was at his wit’s end dealing with Mimi.
“I’m… a little overdressed.”
“Psh. So what? Mimi came here in a ball gown.”
“What?” Koushirou exclaimed as Taichi made a noise of surprise. “She did?”
“Yeah, and you can’t be more overdressed than her.”
“There’s your out, Koushirou,” Taichi hissed in his ear. “Just stick with Mimi the whole night. If anyone asks, she picked out your clothes. She’ll be happy to take the credit. She’ll think you look great.”
Koushirou blushed harder, though for an entirely different reason. With a smirk, Taichi patted his back, and even straightened his bowtie for him before opening the door.
“Get out there, then. Stud.”
(whoever thought I, a staunch joumi fan, would write a koumi drabble… oh well… it just happened lol)
H: What is their deadly sin?
Hard one. He’s a pretty perfect kid lol. I suppose I might put him down for “greed” as well, and maybe it fits better than it does Taichi, in the sense that his curiosity compells him to want to know as much as he can, so he sometimes doesn’t noice the needs of people around him. But it’s not like this is intentional or he doesn’t know about it. Half the time the reason he’s working so hard is because he’s trying to help those people.
R: What are their hands like?
Short, stubby fingers. Often ink-blotted. He’s constantly flexing his hands from typing so much. Bound to get carpal tunnel someday.

Thank you for tagging me, @florencetheflowerfairy
Now, I present my list of ten favorite characters from ten different fandoms:
Hyuuga Hinata (Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden): For over 10 years, Hinata has been a dear character to me. I indentified with her struggles with anxiety and self-deprecation and admired how she grew through the story to the point where she’s respected as a ninja and acknowledged by her family and peers. Hinata develops a strength that is unlike the typical “strong female character” trope. She doesn’t have to shout to be heard, she doesn’t have to punch people or destroy things to be taken seriously. There’s a quiet dignity to her that brings a lot of weight to her words when she speaks. Hinata’s speeches are almost always (dare I say always?) meaningful. She knows how to motivate people and recognize value in them even when they can’t see it themselves. She’s wise, kind, hugely empathetic and might be one of the most emotionally intelligent characters in the series. I also fell in love with her relationship with Naruto. As a self-loathing child who nobody believed in, Hinata saw a lot of herself in the little boy who was shunned by the entire village. And by seeing how he, although faced with many difficulties and failing many times, kept on doing his best and refusing to give up, Hinata felt encouraged to do her best herself and become someone she could be proud of. What began with admiration evolved to love and Hinata became the person to encourage and protect Naruto. I don’t think I was ever as happy to see a couple I shipped become canon as I was with these two. They’re characters who bring the best in each other and respect each other deeply. Relationship goals right here!
Sawada Tsunayoshi (Katekyo Hitman Reborn): what I really liked about Tsuna was how realistic he felt to me. He didn’t act like the typical shonen hero and never really embraced the Mafia Boss destiny people tried to shove him in. Tsuna was a loser in academics and sports who had no friends and no faith in himself in the beginning of the story. However, he evolves in the story and becomes someone who is more confident in himself and earns the trust and respect of other people. All that without actually changing his core personality. Tsuna never stops being a scared-cat or an anxious guy, but he learned that he shouldn’t let those things stop him from fighting to protect the people he cared about. Another thing that I love about Tsuna is that he hates to fight, no matter how strong he gets. Strength for him is merely a means to protect people when needed, not something to use carelessly or to brag about. He’s a sweet kid and I love him.
Todoroki Shouto (Boku no hero academia): his past might be one of the saddest in the manga. His mother was forced into an arranged married with his father, number two hero and abusive jerk. Todoroki was trained since early age to be a great hero but didn’t feel loved. Events that I shouldn’t spoil happen and he resents deeply his father and part of his ability (he has powers of ice, from his mom, and fire, from his father), refusing to use the same power that the man he loathes has. But then, he’s told by someone who would become a dear friend that that power was his and that he shouldn’t hate a part of himself. Todoroki has a beautiful growth in the series and slowly comes to terms with himself as a whole.
Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls): Mabel is an extrovert who embraces life with high levels of enthusiasm. I find it nearly impossible not to fall in love with her. She loves her family and values her heart more than her brain when it comes to make decisions (a trait that saved the day many times). Mabel is incredibly creative and artistic and is also someone who thinks outside the box, coming up with surprising solutions for problems. She had moments of self-centeredness but deeply cares about her family and friends. I’d say nobody in the show has a heart as big as hers.
Asuka Langley Soryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion): my child! She had a lot of hurt, trauma and insecurities but tried really hard to hide them away and present herself as a strong and arrogant person who needed nobody. Asuka in reality wanted to feel like she belonged and wished to be accepted, and believed that being the best pilot would make her achieve those things. In her hurry to grow up, she messes up, makes many mistakes and has to learn to take other people into consideration and to look into herself to understand her struggles. She might be one of the most complex characters I’ve ever seen and it’s a delight to analyze her.
Garnet (Steven Universe): easily the coolest character in the show. Garnet has a unique sense of humor, strength of character, courage, protectiveness and self-confidence. What to expect from someone who is the representation of a relationship? Someone literally made of love? She acts as the leader of the Crystal Gems ever since Rose’s departure and does her best to keep the team together and maintain the balance. Her strong front sometimes hides fears and fragility that we’re only shown sporadically, which adds to her complexity.
Kagura (Gintama): you can look anywhere but it won’t be easy to find a heroine like Kagura. All characters in Gintama are great, especially the women, but Kagura has a special flavor. She’s a teenager from the Yato clan, said to be the strongest species in the universe. She left her home planet behind after sad family-related things happened and made a new life on Earth. Kagura found a new family in the Yorozuya, having Shinpachi as an older brother figure and Gintoki as a father figure. She’s brash, is not afraid to say what she wants, sometimes can be inconsiderate and other times she’s the sweetest child in the world. The bonds that Kagura forms on Earth (not only with the Yorozuya, but also many different characters. My favorites are the sisterly bond with Otae and the best friend bond with Princess Soyo) give her safety and confidence to forge her own identity, not letting her Yato blood dictate her fate. It’s also thanks to the growth she had on Earth that she can later confront her father and older brother, bringing closure to her family’s conflict. Kagura is absolutely fantastic and I adore her with my whole heart.
Tenjou Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena): RGU is the kind of story where all the characters are well-written and complex. Therefore, it’s incredibly hard to pick a favorite. In the end, I decided to go with Utena. She’s a brave and heroic person who wants to live nobly, like a prince. However, her chivalric desires made her unable to recognize that her behavior was at times patronizing. She wanted to help Anthy but for most of the series failed to understand the girl’s real situation. Utena only comes to understand and help Anthy when she stops seeing the girl as someone who needed rescue but as her own person, with virtues and flaws. Despite her shortcomings, Utena was able to extend her hand to Anthy and bring revolution to the oppressed girl’s world, enabling the former rose bride to break free from her brother and the abusive cycle developed by him. The story of Utena and Anthy is remarkably beautiful, showing how both of them were fundamental to each other.
Amy Pond (Doctor Who): my favorite companion! Amy was visited by the Doctor as a young child and asked him to take her away from the village where she was the only Scottish girl and her aunt left her alone for several hours during the night. The Doctor took too long to return (12 years!), and Amy grew up with nobody believing her stories and thinking that she was crazy. The harshness of her childhood made her develop abandonment issues, to the point where she sabotaged her relationships. Most of her growth comes from Amy learning to trust people and to be more open with her emotions and insecurities. Also, she learned that she deserved the love and dedication people gave her, especially Rory’s, her boyfriend and then husband (who also becomes a companion and travels in the tardis).
Izumi Koushiro (Digimon Adventure/Digimon Adventure 02): my favorite fictional character, without a doubt. In those two shows, Koushiro was written beautifully, allowing his depth to be perceived in countless glimpses and episodes focused on him, especially the ones written by Hiro Masaki (nobody will ever write Koushiro as well as this person! He’s without a doubt the author who better understands the character). The boy is shy and awkward around people but enthusiastic about learning new things. For long, Koushiro attempted to evade his problems by throwing himself in the search of knowledge, which caused most of his insecurities to remain unresolved until he talked to his parents about his adoption. Koushiro’s sense of inferiority made him polite to an extreme and only capable of seeing value in himself when he could be of help to others. Because of that, he demanded too much of himself at times, neglecting his own well being for the sake of others. His character is formidably complex and I believe I’ll never get tired of writing for him or reading about him.
 Bonus:
Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist): Ed was a joy to see. He was easily the funniest character but also could shift to dramatic and heavy moments when necessary. He went to great lengths for his family and carried immense guilt for what happened to his brother. Nevertheless, he became determined to always move forward. Ed is constantly morally questioned through the story until he comes to his own answers. It’s a beautiful journey to watch.
Princess Bubblegum (Adventure Time): the morally ambiguous statist! Bubblegum ‘s first impression is of an affable leader who loves her people but the show wastes no time in showing how many layers she actually has. She has a pragmatic and scientific mind and sometimes fails to be empathetic and to treat other people as equals. Nevertheless, she does have good intentions and honestly believes that what she does is for the greater good. Bubblegum is truly a fascinating character!
Hinata Shouyou (Haikyuu): he’s a child that puts all of his energy into things. What’s interesting about Hinata is that he can be light-hearted and enthusiastic most of the time and then, suddenly, become super focused and serious during a volleyball game, to the point where his intensity can be a bit (a lot) scary. He’s also a sincere person who is not afraid to praise people and let them know how great he thinks they are, while at the same time being competitive with the people he admires.
I’ll tag @qwertyshuman, @thefatedmeeting, @fujitsubos, @sirelo, @skuag and @gossipchii, if you feel like doing it. Also, whoever else wants to. :)

psst idk if you still take drabble prompts but if you do, 32 with taishiro?
Thankyou for the wonderful prompt, Peach! This isn’t the first Taishiro fic thatI’ve written, but it’s the first that I’ve posted online. Hotaru is my sister’sheadcanon name for their daughter. It means “firefly.”
150 drabbles challenge
32. “Why did we have to have kids?”
The sun hung low in the sky, touching the distant mountain tops. It marked that time of day when the cloudsturned orange and violet, and the colors were always more vivid in the DigitalWorld. They were walking hand in hand alongside a gentle river that reflectedthe rosy blue sky. It would have been romantic—
“Daddy!” Hotaru crawled underneath athree-foot-tall mushroom. Her toothy smile was still bright under the shade ofthe giant fungus’ cap.
“What’s up, baby?” Taichi let go ofKoushiro’s hand and knelt next to the toddler. The girl’s smile was asenchanting as it was on the first day that Koushiro introduced her to him.Taichi still felt a rush of giddiness whenever she called him her dad.
“Flower name?” Hotaru patted thedigital mushroom’s stem. She had developed an interest in plants since Koushirostarted writing a paper about Digital World flora. It was all they talked aboutat dinner.
“That’s not a flower. It’s amushroom. I bet Papa can tell you the scientific name—”
“Papa no helping Daddy!” Hotaruinterrupted.
Koushiro abruptly closed his mouth. Then he giggled.
“You want me to come up with a scientific name for it? Do you want me to embarrass myself in front ofPapa?” Taichi drawled his questions and Hotaru erupted into giggles at herfather’s silly tone of voice. “Fine. It’s the Fungasaurus mushroomiest giganticlus.”
“Nooo!” Tentomon shouted andhovered next to the girl. “That’s not how binomial nomenclature works at all! He’s supposed to only say two names! Genus and species! By saying three names,he completely blew his cover!”
“Oh come on.” Taichi shrugged.“That was two words. There was…a hyphen.” Koushiro joined his daughter in giggling. But Taichi didn’t convince the bug digimon.
Tentomon nudged Taichi’s arm andwhispered loudly. “That didn’t even sound Latin! You should have said somethinglike Mushroomius mithrilus and itwould have been more believable. I’m just trying to help you impress Koushiro!”
“Tentomon…” Koushiro covered hismouth to hide his smile. “You keep saying ‘mithril,’ but I don’t think youactually know what that word means.”
“Of course I do! It’s what themushroom is obviously made of. At least, that’s my hypothesis!” Tentomonreplied.
“Does that mean it’s poisonous?”Agumon asked.
“Goodness no! It means that it’smetallic,” Tentomon answered.
Agumon chomped his teeth around thegiant mushroom stem. Hotaru gasped and clapped her hands. Tentomon made adisappointed sounding buzz.
“S’defin’tly NOT made uff medal,”Agumon said with his mouth full, making the girl laugh. Taichi immediatelygrabbed the little dinosaur and yanked him off the fungus.
“Agu, what have I said aboutputting strange things in your mouth? Set a better example for Hotaru!” Taichishook his digimon partner and looked back at Koushiro. “That’s not actually poison, right?”
“No, no! I would have saidsomething if it was!” Koushiro’s eyes widened. “I’m sorry to make you worry. Iwouldn’t have let Hotaru come if I knew there were poisonous plants here!”
Taichi gently dropped Agumon and roseto his feet. He grasped Koushiro’s hand again. “Hey, it’s okay. I wasn’tworried. I trust you—”
“It’s not a poisonous plant! It’s a poisonous fungus!” Tentomon corrected his partner.
Koushiro sighed. “I just said itwasn’t poisonous. You’re missing the point, Tentomon. I don’t mind, but pleasedon’t try to show off in front of Hotaru.”
Hotaru, meanwhile, chomped on themushroom stem. She quickly spat out the bits that stuck to her teeth. “Yuck!Yucky yuck!”
“Maybe mithril is softer than Ithought…” pondered Tentomon.
“Sweetie, don’t eat that!” Koushirolooked alarmed.
“She’s fine, remember?” Taichireassured him.
“It will taste better if we cookit!” Agumon spoke up, eager to teach Hotaru the cooking skills he had learnedfrom Taichi. “We can make a HUGE miso stew with this!” The T-Rex threw his tinyarms around the mushroom stem and pulled with all his might. After he grunted,Tentomon flew above him and started pulling the cap to help, to no avail.
Hotaru loved miso stew, and she lovedher digimon friends. She wanted to be as big, strong, and intelligent as themsomeday. She pulled on the mushroom stem from the opposite side, and promptlyleaned too far back and fell into the river. The digimon and the adultsshrieked.
“Hotaru!”
“Hotaru!”
“Hotaruuu!”
“HOTARU!”
Taichi was the quickest to reachthe water, and he immediately grabbed the girl and swooped her out of there. Heheld her tight against his chest. Hotaru’s eyes were wide as saucers. Shelooked too stunned to process what had just happened.
“Sweetie, are you all right?”Koushiro’s voice was a little high. He patted her wet hair nervously.
Hotaru realized just howuncomfortable her dress was now that she was wet, and she started crying.“C-cold…”
“You’re cold? I’m so sorry!” Koushirobit his lips and fumbled with his hands.
“You’re safe now. Don’t worry,”Taichi spoke with authority, and Hotaru’s sobs subsided to sniffles withintermittent whines. Taichi handed the child to Koushiro, who wrapped his armsaround her carefully and kissed her head. Hotaru stopped fussing.
“Let’s go home,” Taichi said.Koushiro nodded and started quickly walking back in the direction they hadcome. Taichi wrapped his arm around the man’s shoulder, and felt his partnerrelax a bit. Taichi peeked over Koushiro’s head to see that the sun was almostgone. They had missed the most romantic moment of the sunset already.
“I’m sorry that we didn’t get tosee the giant redwoods,” Koushiro murmured. He knew that Taichi had been mosteager to see the truly enormous digital plant life.
Taichi shrugged. “Some other day.”
Agumon and Tentomon both apologizedat the same time, talking over each other. Then Agumon complained that he couldhave yanked out that mushroom if Taichi had evolved him to Greymon, andTentomon piped up that he could make Hotaru dry faster if she was riding onKabuterimon’s back.
“It’s fine! Stop worrying so much! She just needs a bath. We’re almost at the Gate.” Taichi grinned at the pair ofthem, and the mood lightened again. The digimon started chatting with eachother instead. Taichi chuckled and whispered in Koushiro’s ear. “Why did wehave to have kids, eh?”
Koushiro froze, which stoppedTaichi in his tracks. “Um…?”
Taichi blinked. “It was a joke!” Heoffered an awkward smile and gestured to the child-level digimon. “They’re allour kids. Our crazy kids, and I love them all.”
“Oh! Haha.” Koushiro tried laughingand blushed that he didn’t get the joke. It was embarrassing when that stillhappened to him. He continued walking forward and Taichi squeezed his shoulder.“Yeah, I love them too,” Koushiro responded. “I didn’t understand what you weresaying. At first…I thought that you were asking for another one.”
“Another what?”
“Another child.” Koushiro kept hisvoice as low as possible. Though Hotaru didn’t look like she was payingattention. She seemed to be drifting to sleep in his arms.
“What?” That came out louder thanTaichi wanted, but he covered any awkwardness with another laugh. “I see! Nowonder you were confused.”
Koushiro nodded.
Taichi hesitated. “Do you wantanother child?”
“I…” Koushiro furrowed his thickeyebrows. “I’ve actually been thinking…”
Taichi guffawed. “You do?”
“No! I mean, yes. I mean! I-I wasjust thinking the other day of how jealous I used to be of you and Hikarigrowing up. That’s all. And…I don’t want Hotaru to be lonely. Ever.”
Taichi softened. “She won’t be. Shealready has Agumon and Tentomon, and she’ll get her own digimon partner soonenough. She’ll make plenty of friends too. I promise.”
“Right. I know that you can definitelyhelp her in that area. You’ve always been helpful in that area. Friendship, Imean.”
“Thanks.” Taichi ran his free handthrough his brown hair, blushing a little. He should probably get it cut againsoon…
“It’s more than that,” Koushirosaid suddenly, his voice more self-assured. “I want to help as many orphans aspossible!”
Taichi nodded, beginning tounderstand. His throwaway joke must have triggered deep-seated issues thatKoushiro had been thinking about for a long time.
“But it was hard enough for me toadopt Hotaru. I got really, really lucky. I was a single clueless collegeprofessor who spent more time with digimon than people. I don’t know if I cango through that stress again. Especially with you in the picture now.”
Taichi stopped moving, and Koushiropanicked.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry. I didn’tmean that you were bad. Y-you’re really helpful! You’re a much better parentthan I am. I would be so lost without you…” Koushiro stopped talking whenTaichi kissed him.
“You’re a wonderful parent,” Taichiwhispered. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to Hotaru.” He kissed himagain. “And you’re the best thing that ever happened to me.” He kissed himagain.
“Mmf…” Koushiro felt a littlelight-headed. Even though they had been a couple for over a year now, he stillgot giddy whenever Taichi turned romantic. “Thanks…” Koushiro finally pulledaway, not wanting to make the situation too awkward for the digimon.
“Are you done yet?” Agumon asked,as if on cue. He and Tentomon were hiding behind rocks.
“Yeah! It’s safe to come out!”Taichi yelled. “We reached the Gate!”
Hotaru fussed again, and Koushiroset her back on her feet. She was getting a little too big to be carried. Hesaw that there was, indeed, a monitor-screen gateway just ahead of them, nestled in a sandy bank of the river. Koushiro looked back to Hotaru and Taichiand the digimon. He wished—not for the first time—that they could all stay inthis world instead. The sky was already a velvet blue, filled with a millionnew stars to count…
“We’ll talk about it later, okay?”Taichi said. Koushiro nodded.
“I’M COLD!” Hotaru whined.
“Shh. Let’s get you home,” Koushirosaid.
The three humans and two digimonwalked up to computer in the sand bank. Then Koushiro took Hotaru’s left hand, and Taichi took her right hand, and the family opened the portal back to thereal world.

Commentary:
Other Digimon Adventure & 02 fans often ask me “why” Koushiro Izumi (known as “Izzy” in the U.S. dub, he’s mainly and very specifically intended as “Koushiro” here - but I love “Izzy” too, so!) is one of my top favorite Chosen Children, (if not my MOST favorite) “even” within his CANON storyline, in all versions of the series. This A.M.V. is probably the closest you’ll get to a ‘full’ answer from me. On a side note, June 18th is actually Autism Pride Day! (Though I was intending this A.M.V. to be for the August 1st anniversary...) As an ‘ActuallyAutistic’ fan-works creator, I’ll be glad if other fans can enjoy this A.M.V. when they ask me “why” I appreciate this character so much, on a personal level.
Because that’s something that can be pretty hard to explain in words, but maybe it shows through at least a little here.
This A.M.V. took about 10 full hours to make in total, and it contains about 117 clips (not including the last couple of clips.) The second to last clip (after the song) contains a scene from Digimon Adventure “2020:” Episode 36 (Un-subbed, I’m adding that later) (which also appears throughout the A.M.V., among the start of “2020:”) The “2020:” ending episodes’ (namely Ep. 66)’s Koushiro scenes relevancy are also used in some spots, though the final battle itself is not seen much outside those. There are some Tri spoilers from the middle and ends of the 3rd & 6th parts, especially, but again, the most major of final battles is not shown frequently (only a single post-battle moment, but it does imply some things.)
(I’m also including a lot of cross-canon ‘Parallels’ I’ve noticed in this Can you note/find them all?)
(Note: replying/Tags that are positive/respectful are ok!)
You say you're not gonna fight 'Cause no one would fight for you
And you think there's not enough love And no one to give it to And you're sure you've hurt for so long You've got nothing left to lose So you say you're not gonna fight 'Cause no one would fight for you You say the weight of the world Has kept you from letting go And you think compassion's a flaw And you'll never let it show And you're sure you've hurt in a way That no one will ever know But someday the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go Hold on, the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go So hold on, the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go So hold on, the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go Just hold on, the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go...
