You know, is it actually called halloween in Harry Potter books (UK edition)? Like Google tells me chapter 10 of Philosopher’s Stone is called Hallowe’en but I haven’t actually read more than few of the books in English (and that was years ago at this point) so I don’t remember. Plus I only own Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows in English and in the first one I don’t remember anything special happening because that book was a bore and the last one no one certainly had any time to party.
I was just thinking about it because in the Finnish books it goes by Kurpitsajuhla (which in hindsight is a really cute name) that just means pumpkin party. Because Halloween was a pretty damn abstract concept in 1998 when the first book was published in Finnish. (And Jaana Kapari-Jatta is a fucking genius translator FYI)
TL:DR do characters actually call it halloween in the books? Or is that just a thing that happens in fanfiction?

#hogwartsreread chapter ten: Hallowe'en/Kurpitsajuhla
Where was that group of Hufflepuffs the group of first year Gryffindors passed in the corridor going? They had just climbed up stairs after leaving the great hall, isn't the Hufflepuff common room next to the kitchens?
