Note
I do infact see your vision, I am a huge Kuruk Stan too btw
Dude Yangchen and Kuruk live in my head rent free, the fact that we have no official interactions between them in the franchise is a crime, THE POTENTIAL OF THESE TWO AS MENTOR AND MENTEE MAN, like, that’s literally her biggest fan, he idolised her to a fault and looked up to her, she was everything he aspired to be
And won’t you think that she’d be very fond of this energy ball of a boy, dude I bet she was so proud when he invented a whole new airbending technique, looks back at szeto and just goes “SEE THIS IS HOW YOU DONT FUCK YOUR SUCCESSOR OVER”
(fast forward a few years and Kuruk is immediately fucked over by the spirits she neglected 😭😭😭) (not blaming her btw)
I think the world broadly idolized yangchen at the time of her death and we can see in the kyoshi books that directly affects how kuruk takes the job. He takes the legends and myths too seriously so he is pressured into trying to perform to that (impossible) level that he literally destroys himself fighting spirits and despite that the world thinks he SUCKS and frankly yangchen would probably consider his treatment (not him) as the greatest failure of her legacy. She would be heartbroken others treat him so badly and also HE treats HIMSELF so badly
I’m really into the tragedy of it all ;P

Avatar hcs
Spoilers for the reckoning of Roku, the kyoshi novels and the yangchen novels. Note I still need to finish Rokus and kyoshi's books
Korra
• Korra has broken her fingers many, many times
• Her eyes are so bright and eye-catching. People stare at them a lot.
• She could pull so easily. She's great at flirting (usually) But she doesn't because she's loyal to asami
• Sure she was showing growth when she spared kuvira but she does NOT like her. Kuvira pisses her off
• Luckily she's able to make up for her lack of experience in the real world with how social she is but she is clueless about slang and she never understands references
• Jokes fly right over her head
• All of the krew has such a shitty sense of humour they laugh at the dumbest things
• Goes through like 12 hairstyle phases. She loves mixing it up
• Stubborn as hell she stood by the spirit portal decision for he entire life and death
• A really talented bender. In her spare time she attempts to recreate the feats of her past lives
• Bias towards kuruk. She thinks he looked very cool and admired his skills
Aang
• Being vegetarian spared him from the knowledge that he is allergic to shellfish
• Sokka and toph teased him about his first flirting attempts on katara until the day he died
• His death was really unexpected. He was mostly fine leading up to it. Noone could really figure out what killed him at first, it was ultimately just him overworking himself too much
• Not a fan of the spirit world. He avoids it where he can
• Koh the face stealer scared him senseless actually no matter what he says
• He was always really busy with his duties but he did try to spend as much time with his children as he could
• Was super doting on katara while she was pregnant
• Tried a long bearded look for a while. It looked awful and toph clowned on him so hard. So did his kids
• Admired Yangchen and Roku so much. Kyoshi freaked him out as a kid
Roku
• Those first few months of travelling with the air nomads sucked ass. He was constantly covered in mud, his hair was knotted and he STANK oh my god he missed home so bad
• Actually pretty clumsy. Even when he was old he would trip over his own feet all the time. Dislocated his hip once
• A pushover. Sozin would take his snacks and drag him places as small children and he'd just take it
• Sozin had no faith in his avatarhood
• Politics were a nightmare for him in his late teens and twenties because of how awkward he was. He grew into his own though and ended up decently good at negotiating.
• Has freckles, but they only show up at the height of summer
• He doesn't tan he goes red
• Low self esteem, he thinks everything he does is embarrassing
• Collected seashells. Both because he wanted to try and get reacquainted with the ocean and because he thought they were pretty
• Shortly after Yasu died, he was so petrified of water he could barely bathe. He was very traumatised for a long while
• His own safety wasn't much of a priority. Guilt consumed him, so he didn't care what happened to him, as long as the people he was close to were safe
Kyoshi
• Thank god for airbending because she is intensely affected by the cold
• Her Hands are always slightly shaky, so applying her makeup can be so annoying sometimes
• Politics bored her to death
• Queen of “this could've been an email”
Uses her height to her advantage as much as she can. It's just easier and leads to less violence
• Very kind to young children
• She doesn't mean to be harsh or rude, she's just very blunt and has a flat tone
• She got very sick very easily as a kid. If kelsang hadn't found her she probably wouldn't have lived much longer
• Insecure about her appearance. Rangi spent years convincing her she wasn't ugly
• She saw a lot of her younger self in Roku. It made her uncomfortable
Kuruk
• Hopeless romantic. Loves poetry, songwriting and those partner dances. You know damn well he took ummi on as many dates as he possibly could
• Self reliant. Asking for help with anything becomes harder and harder as he grows older (“older”). Even basic stuff like asking someone to help him carry stuff
• His parents were disappointed in him. In their eyes they raised the only avatar in recent history who just didn't do his job
• They both outlived him
• He was fantastic at bending though, he could pull of some tricks that not even his teachers could
• He should've been at the club bro!! House parties would've been his shit!! He would've eaten at karaoke
• As much as he drank he still despised the taste of vodka
• Wanted to be a father. But that didn't work out
• Trust issues
Yangchen
• Her hair started going grey pretty early into her life. She was crazy stressed
• Rip yangchen you would've loved weed
• She did not celebrate the day Chaisee died because that would be disrespectful. So kavik did it for her amen
• Really enjoyed sports. Would've killed it at baseball
• She doesn't like watching the lives of the future avatars until they hit like 25 they stress her out so hard when they're young
• One of the few team avatars to stick together for life and not retire at any point. All of them worked until they were forced to stop
• Infertile
• Tries to visit her sister in the spirit fog sometimes but can't bring herself to go in again. She stops doing this eventually
• Kavik cuts her hair. He's weirdly good at it. In return she brings him trinkets she finds in all the places she visits
• Yingsu and her have spa days together
• Her sanity was hanging on by a thread during Legacy. She was so close to crashing out
• The past lives “possessing” her was an issue her whole life, exacerbated in times of stress. Neither she or her past lives could control it. It just happened when it happened
Wan
• Realistically he knew that he couldn't just fix all the world's problems in his lifetime alone, but god he did not want to die the way he did. He really wanted a peaceful death
• The armour he was wearing when he died was slowly gathered up over the years from battlefields and things he just found on the ground
• His avatar state was slightly different from his incarnations. Since it wasn't something he was born with, it caused some issues. For example, his vision was very poor when he died
• Felt really bad about the impact he had on the other avatars lives.
• Super bored all the time. He's seen everything there is to see at this point
• Wan and raava are super comfortable they know literally everything about each other
• Never had a lover. It just didn't interest him at all. The following avatar just ended up looking similarly to him (Alternatively- he had a bad breakup with a guy and that is why none of the future avatars date men/j)
• Wan and Jaya (his friend that died fighting spirits) built the treehouse they lived in together. Yao (tree-sprit guy) met them a little later. They formed their own little family after being shunned by everyone else
• Yangchens life was his favourite to watch. Aang's life was his least favourite.
• Korra was the only one he went out of his way to speak to. He hasn't been summoned for at least a few thousand years and he just prefers to let them make their own decisions

I wanna hear more avatar headcanons! From the novels or just the avatars themselves! I loved reading your kavik and yangchen hcs 🥹🫶🏻
ahhh thank you!! i'm glad you like my random thoughts lol 🫶
here are a few more random thoughts i've been having that i just haven't quite made into posts yet (mostly yangvik because i love them but some other avatars as well):
yangchen is actually a terrible cook 💀 she's basically always had people taking care of her so she never really needed to learn! she can make a good cup of tea and that's about it. she regularly burns rice. she's also just generally bad at remembering to feed herself. kavik, who is a decent cook, is largely the only reason she remembers to eat
as for the other known avatars: kyoshi is by FAR the best cook. she's genuinely good at it. aang is a very close second. roku, kuruk, and wan are all average at it. korra has been banned from every kitchen in republic city
yangchen and kavik both strike me as people who really enjoy physical touch. they both really enjoy cuddling with each other, even before their relationship turns more romantic. acts of service is also a major love language for them
i also feel very strongly that they never used typical labels for their relationship. they usually referred to each other as their 'partner', occasionally 'lover', but most often just continued to use 'companion'. these vague labels frustrate scholars to no end, and today in the atla universe nobody can agree on the nature of their relationship. which is exactly how they wanted it lol, they were extremely private about their relationship
yangchen does have the iconic crooked smile that all the avatars share, but it only comes out when she's well and truly happy about something
her laugh is the same way. she has a very convincing fake laugh, as her real laugh is kind of 'ugly'. it's some kind of snorting, wheezing sound that kind of sounds like she's dying but is also absolutely adorable. yangchen hates it. kavik adores it, and will make an absolute fool of himself trying to hear it
yangchen is a massive, merciless flirt and takes great pleasure in seeing just how red she can make kavik's face turn. but on the rare occasion kavik gets enough confidence to flirt back, she turns into a total mess
pik and pak's favorite place to sleep is right on top of kavik's face
because of how hard she works herself, yangchen often falls asleep in the strangest places. if she's actually tired, she can fall asleep literally anywhere. it's simultaneously a superpower and a massive annoyance
a somewhat sad/bittersweet headcanon i have is that yangchen dies first. i've seen a lot of people saying that she lives to 150 but i can't find a source for that anywhere so i'm choosing to ignore it. yangchen has already watched too many loved ones die, she doesn't need to see kavik die before her as well. they both live very long lives, but kavik outlives her by a few years. after yangchen's death, he returns home to the northern water tribe
at one point, only a few months before his death, he is out for a walk when a little toddler wanders up to him all alone. he chats with him for a few minutes until the boy's parents find them and thank him for watching over their son. 'kuruk, what have we told you about wandering off like that?' the mother asks. the toddler waves goodbye, and kavik walks home feeling oddly contented. he never meets the boy again, and he dies well before kuruk is revealed as the avatar, but he feels a sense of peace from the interaction, knowing deep down that yangchen has made it safely back into the material world
when kavik dies, he wills his bone necklace to kuruk's family. they don't understand why until kuruk's sixteenth birthday. (SERIOUSLY THEIR NECKLACES LOOK ALMOST IDENTICAL ITS WILD)
that's all the thoughts i can scrape up off the top of my head, but i'm just generally thinking about avatar characters All The Time lmao. thank you for asking!!!

hello happy new year!!! because of your posts about katara and sokka being good at eskimo stick pull and knuckle hopping respectively, i got really interested in WEIO - which had me thinking, surface level, but would you approve of the headcanon of katara and aang's son tenzin being an undefeated ear pull champion both because of his gigantic ears and his pretty high pain tolerance? it's the one thing his sister absolutely cannot beat him at. also 1) what's your personal favorite event to do, and 2) do you have any other hcs of what WEIO events certain water tribe characters would love doing? sorry if this is overload or not worded coherently
God, ear pull champ Tenzin is such an inspired concept. He'd even meditate while beating everyone at the ear pull. That man was born to kick ass at ear pull
I myself have never gotten to compete due to lack of transportation and being my parents' main source of childcare later not having enough vacation days at work or energy outside of work to dedicate to athletic competition. It's that whole "culture behind a paywall" concept i've brought up before. That said i do have headcanons!
Korra strikes me as someone really into the one foot high kick and partly because it makes for a dramatic pose for the camera.
Bato loves the one hand reach and always does a flip on the blanket toss
Eska is undefeated in the salmon fillet and seal skinning speed competitions
Jinora's into the regalia competitions. She got second place once dispite her youth and has been riding that high for years
Kuruk will jump at the chance to compete in the arm pull. Why? Three words: maximum flirting potential.

I don’t really like the theory of the avatar loves/identity thing but just this once I’ll accept it for Yangchens sake, because I love her sm rn and have a hc fic already now. The summary of this hc fic is Yangchen meeting Kuruk and having an emotional meeting together over Kavik and sends her to see his spirit to confess emotions.
-
Her seeing Kuruk for the first time and she’s still, silent seeing him. Only for her first words being soft saying Kavik’s name. Almost identical Kuruk is, to her that she thinks she’s seeing a ghost until Kuruk speaks his name in confusion making Yangchen blink a few times to make reality come back on who is standing in front of her.
Her hand drifts out towards him trying to make sure, Kuruk notices she’s wobbly on her feet and holds her hand supporting her weight until Yangchen drops to her knees from her accidental mistake. She’s apologising furiously towards him with her free hand to her temple, Kuruk kneeling beside still holding onto her, reassuring Yangchen. Telling her that he wasn’t offended in anyway but for him to apologise on his behalf on his appearance looking like a past love of hers, until Kuruk gives her a all familiar dumb smile. Yangchen notes the smile on the corner of her eye, her head picks up and she inhales then exhales calming herself. Back to her regal, professional looking self.
Helping her back up, Kuruk bows towards her, finally beginning their first spirit meeting together. Yangchen returns the gesture and greets herself, her avatar title and her name towards him. As they speak and get underway, she still can’t help herself but stare away at Kuruk while he tells about himself, muttering along until he picks up the constant stare.
“Why don’t you be out with it.” Kuruk speaks with roll of his wrist to add. It’s a minute of silence until she does, “It’s just daunting. You look exactly like him. My companion, Kavik. A water tribesmen just like you. The more I look the more I see him more and more...” her voice shifts to a lower tone towards the ground Kuruk stands on. “…You where in love with him weren’t you avatar Yangchen. You never really got to tell him didn’t you.” Kuruk’s words struck in a harsh like way, the truth dawning on her. “Yes. I just wish I told him sooner.” Silence grew between the two avatars, the spirit world they where in shifted and turned as time passed. The scenery changing to their emotions.
Finally Kuruk spoke up once more, thanking the past life that stands before him. Though before he ends his connection, the colours around Yangchen grew grey. Even her own air nomad clothing where draining away before him quickly. Her own sadness was showing before him, regret. Kuruk sighs and takes a few steps towards Yangchen, he grabs her right wrist in a firm grip finding the pulse. His other hand grabs her left hand and places her palm on his forehead. Both their eyes glow, a sudden connection.
A flash shun, everything was clear and fresh once more. Yangchen squints adjusting to the sudden fast change around her. Familiarity waved over her, the spirit oasis. The green grass was soft while the air was warm around her. Gazing down to the sacred pool, her reflection was her younger teen self again. Patting at her face in awe and looking at her hands carried away, Yangchen didn’t notice the movement behind her until it’s presents touched her on the shoulder. The touch was gentle and yet strong at the same time, a touch she knew.
Jolting upright with a swift turn, her eyes widen with sudden tears forming. Kavik. He was standing there before her, his arm reached out still attached to her shoulder. His dumb smile again beaming at her along with a head tilt all to add to his handsomeness that everyone teased him about. Little sobs broke out making Kavik open his eyes and stop smiling, before he could ask on what the matter was Kavik was getting tackled too the ground with a tight hug.
The sobs grew loud into his chest, Yangchen was bawling. Gently with a huff, Kavik wrapped his arms around her in a snug hold to comfort his avatar. Her crying slowed by his support until she managed to breathe. A sign to Kavik that she was calming down until he felt her whole body brace itself. Kavik’s eyes flicked down upon her, “You have no idea how much I care, your annoyance, your dumb face, how much I-” a soft touch of his lips upon her head made Yangchen holt her confession. “I love you to” his own words made her look up at him. His embrace tightened more, his skin flustered red higher and higher to his ears.
His blush was something that she adored, with many of other things he did or had done only around her. And to his knowledge, he looked upon her again, along the bridge of her nose, cheeks and the tip of her ears where a soft pink. He’s never seen her blush like this before, yet they both where staring at each other now. Kavik moved his head down too her, a kiss though a quick one. His eyes closed shut that he was afraid of his own action, worried to open them again he felt Yangchen’s hands cup his face. A tiny kiss returned his. Her lips where soft and refreshing, the embodiment of air itself gracing his skin.
Inner peace grew then within her. The regret dwindling away like a wave of water washing away grime. Yangchen started to relax on Kavik. She shifted her head to the side hearing the beat of his heart, a rhythm that sounded like a lullaby that her sisters had sung to her at a young age. Kavik rested his head back into the soft grass of the oasis, embracing his avatar again and taking in their moment. To herself she thought; “Thank you Kuruk for this help. May my blessings be the wind in your sails”, Yangchen closed her eyes. As if sending her blessing away too the new Avatar who sent her to find her peace within the spirit world.
A breeze in the material world found its way to Kuruk. It was warm and gentle, a silent message of a thank you. Kuruk nodded from its passing and knew who’s blessing it was. Immediately Kuruk sat sail with Yangchen’s peace in his sails as he crossed the For Nations seas.

When Water Tribe companions meet (aka: so I have another hc)
Korra: Wow! Look at all the Water Tribe benders! :D Master Katara! Katara: Wow you must be the Avatar after Aang, am I your sifu too? Korra: Yup! Sokka: Heh, wow then Katara must be ancient. ¬‿¬ Katara: Oh shut it Sokka! Kuruk: Ah! Youth! So carefree! Amak, 30s, Kuruk's era ver: You're always carefree Kuruk. >_> Taqukaq: Yeah Avatar Kuruk. Maybe if you weren't so carefree, then Avatar Kyoshi wouldn't have had to do so much in her lifetime! Kirima: Oh shut it, like you know anything! Kuruk: *sweating* Tayagum: And you know something? Kirima: Uhhhhh Kyoshi doesn't want me talking about it sooooo uhhhh..... Akuudan: Well if your Avatar isn't butt hurt about it, then I guess it's fine. Atuat, 40s, Kyoshi era ver: *staring at Amak, bug eyed* Brother! Amak: ????? Atuat? Is....is that you? Atuat, slapping her brother on the back, cheerfully: Look at you alive! Amak: ???! I'm dead? Atuat: Don't worry about it! Hey is this all of us? Tayagum: No, there's one more. Atuat: We'll they better get here soon! I want this Water Tribe Party to get started! >:) Kirima: Hell yeah! Kavik, walking in: S-sorry I'm late! Yangchen needed somethin-uh, why are they staring at me like that? Atuat and Amak: *mouths on the floor* Kirima: No idea, hey you ok in there? Amak: G-g-g-g-g-gra-gra Atuat: GRANDFATHER KAVIK?! Kavik: .........*falling backward from shock* WHAT?! Yangchen, ripping the door off it's hinges and coming in: WHAT?! Kavik: Ah! What are you doing here?! Water Tribe only! Yangchen, lying: I forgot to give you something! Kavik: Well what is it?! Yangchen: It's not important, right now! Kavik: Well if it's not important then-ah! Amak, grabbing Kavik by the chin: It's the same bone structure.... Atuat: Same shifty eyes... Kavik: My eyes are not shifty! Atuat, hugs Kavik: Oh grandfather! We've missed you so much! Kavik: C-can someone please explain! I'm so confused! ;w; Yangchen, cooly: Yes please, We're all dying to know. Atuat, unperturbed: Grandfather! You have to tell us, who is our grandmother! Kavik: HuH?! W-what do you- Amak: You never told anyone. You were away for 9 months, then came back and said "I knocked up a girl in the Earth Kingdom, she died in childbirth. Here mother, father, help me raise this kid." Atuat: And then you had our greatgrans raise our mother more than you did! Everyone: *judging Kavik* Kavik: I-I don't know about any of this! Really! I don't know any women! Atuat: But what's odd, is that mother mentioned you slipping up one time! You said she was a "Southern Water Tribe" Woman once! But then quickly changed it back to Earth Kingdom. Hmmm, so which is it? Korra: I can't believe you basically abandoned you're kid with your parents. What's the matter with you?! Tayagum: And here we thought you couldn't stoop any lower..... Yangchen: I can't believe I ever called you a companion..... Atuat: Huh? Oh! No no, he didn't abandon our mother willy nilly. He was just so busy with helping you Avatar Yangchen! :) He did his best to stay present, don't worry! It helped that you visited a lot too, apparently! Yangchen, blanching: ....... Kavik, looking everywhere but at Yangchen, red as hell: ....... Amak: Oh that reminds me, Avatar Yangchen be careful dealing with spirits. They say you were overcome by a sickness that lasted nearly a year because of a fight with one! Yangchen, face going blank: ....s....spirits.....right.... Everyone: *silence* Yangchen: I'm going to return to the Air Nomad meet up....if you don't mind. *sprints away* Sokka: Huh, she looked spooked. Kuruk, snickering: Mu....must've....snnkrk....must've seen a spirit!

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I noticed something interesting at the beginning of the first Kyoshi novel (no spoilers in this screenie):
Tumblr media
[Text in image reads: Earth, Fire, Air, Water, and then Earth again, an order as unchanging as the seasons. A process stretching back nearly a thousand generations before Kuruk, and one that would hopefully continue for a thousand more.]
Now, I've always been under the impression that it's very possible--and even likely--that there have been more Harmonic Convergences than just during Wan and Korra's eras. Part of this stems from what Roku said in AtLA:
"I've learned the elements a thousand times in a thousand lifetimes."
However, that could easily be written off as exaggeration or Roku just making shit up for dramatic effect lol. BUT the above line in the Kyoshi novel comes directly from the internal monologue of a reliable Air Nomad leader. And it seems to heavily imply that the Avatar cycle has been recorded with enough dedication for them to have a general idea how many Avatars there have been.
I think this line can be interpreted in one of two ways:
1. 'Generations' is referring to normal people, AKA the roughly 20-30 years between a person's birth and the birth of their first child. A thousand generations would then be 20,000-30,000 years.
2. The word is used in a more figurative sense, marking each Avatar as a 'generation' in the cycle. Even with the extremely conservative estimate that Avatars live--on average--50 years, that would be 50,000 years between Wan and Korra. It could easily be double that, considering how long Kyoshi lived.
Basically, if we take this at face value, that means there has been at least one extra Harmonic Convergence between Wan and Korra, but as many as eight or nine. And I see no reason, canonically/lore-wise, that it can't be true. Vaatu remained imprisoned in the Tree of Time until Unalaq released him. In fact, it's entirely possible that most people in the AtLA world had no idea anything unusual was happening during previous HCs.
If my math is horribly wrong, someone please tell me nicely 😭😅

not a question. just obsessed with your pfp. i look at it too much and long to feel kuruk’s embrace (in a “when will my husband return from war” sort of way)
also kuruk with the blue spirit *chefs kiss* i know they had a torrid love affair. i hc kuruk as a “bi til i die” sort of girly
anyway sorry for being weird as shit this is my neurodivergent way of saying you are very very talented and i admire your work :)
you are not being weird at all, i heard you loud and clear! you are vary sweet thank you! your icon is also really cute! (really sweet!)
the spirit and kuruk are the "enemies -to- a hook up that according to kuruk never happend -to- fond and respectful onesided rivals" kind of dynamic to me! also all avatars are just pan to me. idk 100 of lifes living in one person you can not, not be on the queer in a way! so no point in denying for kuruk even ummi doesn't belive him. its fine though!

second ask bc it's fun to read them (ifff you do want to do more) 1, 4, 5
Aaaaaa these are so good! Sorry for taking so long to answer <3
Long answers under the cut. Sorry if they are a bit messy (I just woke up lol)
1. Who fell for the other one first?
Hmnn so, I think when Hei-Ran first visited the NWT with Kuruk and they were in their late teens or early twenties, Atuat had a massive crush on her. I don't think they got close or even got to meet properly back then.
BUT, btw trok and tsok, Hei-Ran definetely fell first. Partially bc Atuat takes healing very seriously and wouldn’t get distracted by romance unless she had *a reason*. But I also think that Atuat is very much Hei-Ran's type?
I keep joking about her being a pillow princess, letting Jianzhu take the lead on the Avatar stuff, and basically doing nothing in trok. But maybe she's the kind of person who doesn't like to take the lead and only does when she thinks it's really important and there's no other way (which is often, cause she's a perfectionist)? And Atuat is so resolute. So I can imagine her being attracted to that.
4. What do physical trait do they love the most about each other?
SFW answers: Hei-Ran loves Atuat's hands. I've seen this HC going around that waterbenders have longer hands and I'd like to think that Atuat has particularly strong hands, so yeah, Hei-Ran loves them. Atuat loves Hei-Ran's eyes. The doe-bitch can scare anyone with just a look! Atuat finds that incredbly hot.
NSFW answers: Atuat's incredible boobs (honestly, this should have been my new url)! I think Hei-Ran is in the aro/ace spectrum and doesn't really feel strong physicial atraction. BUT she does like playing with them.
Hei-Ran's tight little butt! So, I imagine that, during recovery, Hei-Ran was incredibly anxious about regaining strenght and getting back into shape. Plus (idk if this is canon or if I imagined it bc F.C. Lee keeps talking about firebenders eating a lot) in my mind firebenders have super fast metabolisms. So, I do imagine that she put on a good amount of muscle mass back, but maybe not a lot of fat. And though Atuat worries about it, she really likes her tiny butt dgshagaj also, butt dimples
5. What personality trait do they love the most about each other?
Hei-Ran loves Atuat's confidence and how comfortable in her own skin she is. Atuat loves Hei-Ran's determination (and recklessness, though she won't admit it).

Please note that when it comes to drawing people I’m about as skilled as an average 6th grader. But I love having the avatars together. Korra too. I HC she reconnected eventually before she died.
But also look at my girl kyoshi. I picture her to be the tallest. Roku and Aang turned pretty tall too. Korra and yangchen and kuruk more average height. Obviously this is what I picture when I imagine them.
Kyoshi telling everyone they are short and using them as arm rests would be the funny pic I’d pull out of this. If I could draw.
Avatar gang :)))
EDIT: I have since edited it to make the outfits more accurate now that I saw them. I was drawing that when my phone was dead.

Let’s have a sad hc fic of yangvik shall we? (emotions are all over the place and been thinking of this for a few days).
Cw: death, extreme depression, heartbreak syndrome, old age.
-
First up, I personally have this thought that Raava just genuinely extends the life force of every avatar. (All my homies pour one out for kuruk😔) Compared to their companions who don’t really have that light energy extension. SO…
Yangchen and Kavik are the same age right? They are pushing 100 or around early 100s, Yangchen over time has personally given Kavik days off from avatar duties to be with his family and other tribesmen. Mostly a week too two weeks he has, Kavik mostly goes on hunts that also take majority of that time. By the time he gets back, he always brings back at least a new wound or scar. Yangchen doesn’t really like that, when she finds a scar or a fresh opening somewhere she’s on it, quickly healing it. Though Kavik is mostly riddled by now, she always shakes her head in disapproval though forgives him.
Things start to slow down for Kavik. His health mostly, the sheer stress of the past catching up to him. Duty and fights taking a toll mentally but more physically. A day he goes to set out, preparing for a hunt. He is home with what family he has left, Yangchen is there to (thanks to his mother, Yangchen is always welcomed to his home and family no matter) but this day was different for him. Things felt off, slow, uncomfortable for him. The weirdness of slow breathe, Kavik had to sit down. A few deep inhales until a wave of pain struck him in the chest, clutching himself there. Yangchen flew into action without even speaking a word. She was on it. Supporting his weight while he sits keeling over, using her healing she figured out what was happening to him. A silent heart attack.
Panic set into her, wide eyes. Eyeing Kavik’s face that is now drenched in sweat. Fear now over takes her, her knowledge in the human body is vast, once a person has an attack the rest that follow are more harsh until death, if your lucky.
Yangchen upset spoke with a stern voice at Kavik. Telling him do not go hunting, he is in no condition no more. Only for Kavik give her a smug smile with a look that she knows to well, a look of “I’ll be ok, it’s alright…” but no. Yangchen brows flex, eyes sharp, a frown dawned on her face. Her figure shadowed over him who was still slumped in the seat he took, reality grew on his own face. She was the boss. His life is now in her hands from now on.
Months had past since the attack. Kavik felt less in energy then before, what he would report to Yangchen on the daily on how he felt. It would give so much relief when he was ok. More extra comfort is when they slept together, respectfully. Yangchen would have a routine throughout the night checking Kavik when he sleeps. A hand on his back, chest, then pulse checks on his neck and wrists. To catch anything of the abnormal through out his body. Things seems to be fine until a week later.
Yangchen doing her check ups, half asleep for to be fully awake after discovering that Kavik is silent. A silence that was eerie and deafening. Throughout that night a second silent attack had happened, before her check ups, just her luck. Yangchen is in a horrible mess, scrambling to a lifeless Kavik who slept by her. There where no signs on his face, no signs of stress on the outside, the only evidence she could find was his still heart that felt like it was strangled from the attack that hit hard, feeling it with her water bending. Yangchen now beginning to hyperventilate, mute sobs. Running her hands over his chest trying to bring him back though nothing prevailed. Finally she let it out with a scream that bursted the windows, rattled the doors of the home they lived in. So loud that it made other water tribe members wake and rush too the house, only to find what cause such a scream of horror.
She hasn’t slept in weeks, dark circles under eyes, pale complexion and now underweight. Her solid rock that gave her peace is now gone. Yangchen started separate herself from the world. Started to ignore pleas, asks for help, avatar duties, literally everything. The woe was taking over her day by day, to weeks, to months evolved to years. Chaos was dawning. Even spirits started to break worlds without her interference and cause destruction. People and nations kept at her, everything was too much now. Even Raava that tried her best to ground her was unsuccessful.
Yangchen looked like death itself, a being of no other. Strangely things where going quiet, all the pleas stopping over time that kept falling in deaf ears. Finally she thought to herself, a perfect time to flee and disappear without witnesses. The place she now stays at, the cove in the side of the mountains where no one could see. Yangchen lazily mopes day in and day out. Her depression completely took the wheel of her life now, she could bearly eat anything and when she did, pain. Pain shot through her chest, specially around her heart and lungs. The suddenness made her think rapidly, more attacks? This was something else, she never even felt like this before until now. The pain grew in waves then stopped, it was torment.
The pain and the depression was at its maximum at this point. Yangchen laying against the wall of rock. Hissing the pain out when it struck. Her heart felt like it was tearing apart, it hurt to breath. Raava broke the silence, for a moment Yangchen had forgotten about her, her words where soft and comforting to hear after a while of stress. When Raava spoke, she mentioned something that Yangchen had never heard of when it came to human health. Why didn’t anyone tell her? Why didn’t anyone report such a rare like thing in history.
Broken Heart Syndrome. Valves of the heart ripping apart slowly over time from suffering from extreme depression, stress or grief of a lost loved one. Kavik’s loss affected her so harshly that she never wanted to admit it. But it was true, he was the last being and even thing that gave her joy, happiness, a reason to live another day. Why did she hang on after so long after his passing? Was it self false hope? Perhaps. The pain is back, Raava’s words faded when it became to unbearable. Grunts and gasping for air came from Yangchen, her hands death grip her robes in a fight for life. Things where blurring, sound was getting more and more quiet. Raava spoke more, her final words sounding like a gentle guidance. Yangchen started to realise what was happening to her, to herself. Her last few moments. The gasps sounded horrific to the ear, weakness grew all over. Yangchen’s body gave a last ditch effort, an effort too cry. To let it all out once and for all. For this this life. Soft lights shun around her, just making it out from failing vision until complete darkness. Raava. Saying her goodbyes to this avatar who lays before her motionless and finally at peace, the great air avatar Yangchen.

Do you have any Avatar Kuruk headcanons?
Hmmmmm I have a few! (under the cut for length)
So Kuruk is known as a party animal, and while I think it has SOME truth, the over exaggeration of it isn't really him. He's kinda Bruce Wayne-ing it half the time. And while he was a bit of a romantic and a little flirty, he wasn't nearly as bad as his reputation later became. Like he wasn't a manwhore/rake or whatever you wanna call him (at least before the spirits). (after the spirits..... I'm tempted to believe that even if he did sleep around....I fear it might've been because he was preyed on like that one maid did, maybe not all the time but I don't think he was surrounded by a lot of good people ;w;).
UNFORTUNATELY, his old team and supposed close friends had their perception colored later in life and forgot his real personality. Remembering only the silver tongue flirt, and thus they thought Yun was the perfect ringer.
The only people who saw his real personality since fighting the spirits was probably Ummi and Nyahitha, and Kelsang (that one time). And ironically that had more similarities with Kyoshi than other's probably saw. (which is why Nyahitha gives her so much shit and clocked her in like five seconds kfjdksjfa)
Kuruk was TOTALLY and 100% working OVERTIME in Rise of Kyoshi. This guy was trying SO FREAKING HARD to get Kyoshi together with Rangi. TT0TT Like he was totes feeding her lines of his poem because of how Rangi looks, and legit forgot Kelsang knew the poem. Kyoshi even mentions how it looked like Rangi was outlined by a spirit during the Chameleon Bay chase, and that spirit HAS to be Kuruk. TT0TT My man is the best wingman, he was trying so hard for his OTP to be together TT0TT
Kuruk and Kyoshi def vibe in the afterlife. They founded the "I Miss My Wife" club. Only for the most miserable though, which is them. ("I get Kuruk but what about Kyoshi-" My headcanon for how Kyoshi's love life goes is not a pleasant one ;w; So yeah, club founders).
Kuruk was totes fine with Kyoshi killing Xu, he probs would've been up in her face like he was with Chaejin/Huazo incident if he wasn't at least a lil' chill about it. Maybe at worse disapproved, but it was probs something like "Eh, he's an ass, you gotta do what you gotta do. Not my move but who am I to judge?"
If the "you get the face of your loved one when reincarnated" is correct, then he is so happy and sad whenever he looks at Kyoshi. Kyoshi might've decided to present herself wearing make up in the afterlife because she saw how much it hurt him.
Because of that, for the time Kyoshi hated him, he was devastated. TT0TT
He's still Yangchen's biggest fanboy, but likes to tease her about spirits. All in good fun tho. He was always so happy to talk with her.......even when his life was falling apart. TT0TT
He likes to brag about having it easy and being sandwiched between two awesome Avatar lady eras. They usually do all the talking for him when ppl hit up the Avatar past selves line (I like to think Kyoshi and then Roku found a better way to deal with spirits, so Kuruk gets to just kick back and delegate to a different Avatar now. His best advice being "don't kill the spirits" now TT0TT). He deserves rest and this is the closest he's getting to it damnit!
HC that Roku is a fanboy of Kyoshi, Kuruk has a soft spot for the boy since he totally GETS IT.
Kuruk tried his best to keep Kyoshi alive when she was younger. Not much you can do as a spirit, but he was always by her side through her worst fevers. It hurt him seeing her like that, especially when his dying wish was to make sure his friends did right by her. TT0TT
He really likes Korra, little upset he didn't get spiritbending, but hey watchu gonna do? He totally took off his hat/coat when talking to her cause of her animal guide tho fkjsadkfja He's glad she brought back the airbenders (especially since it made Yangchen happy).
I'm fascinated by his past relationships with Hei-Ran and Ummi. I think the song "If We Never Met" by John K fits him and Ummi's relationship tbh (since a lot of the lyrics seem to fit what we know about them).
That's all I got right now. I wish we got more information, I hope he gets a novel soon. TT0TT
