"You were a real plumbhead this morning, you know that? We just barely got her to come out of her room, she's obviously been carrying this for months and you just have to give your opinions."

"I know Anabelle. I really messed it up."

"I'm scared too you know. I'm not ready to be a grandmother. I'm not even 40 yet. But I wasn't ready to be a mother either and look where that got us."

"Watcher! I did the same thing to her as I did to you. I'm such an idiot."

"Yeah you are. But we can still fix this."

They were quiet for a moment until Hezekiah broke the silence. "Do you think...that boy...that maybe...it wasn't her choice?"

"Oh Watcher, I don't even want to think about that!"

"I know kids make mistakes but...she just seemed so adamant about waiting."

Kye sat up suddenly, reaching for his chair. "I need to talk to her."

"Now?"

"Yes, I can't sleep till she knows I love her." He paused, "Damn! the stairs! Could you get her for me?"

"Of course, Dear."

But it was too late. All that was left of Sofia was footprints in the snow.

[3 years later]

The Winter Season was finally coming to an end. It was still cold but hope could be felt just on the horizon. Anabelle hoped that with the melted snow, they might be able to find Sofia.

"Breakfast is nearly ready. Could you go get your father?"

"Of course!!"

"This is amazing Mom! I'm really going to miss your cooking!"

"What do you mean you're going to miss it?"

"Um...well I've been thinking about it a lot lately. You know how much I love helping you in the garden but I just can't do what I want here in Copperdale."

"You know how Aunt Rachel finally got pregnant? Well they had twins which means Uncle Gavin isn't able to help on the farm as much anymore. Uncle Reuben needs help and I really want to learn farming."

"So you're moving back to Henford? That's great son! I'm so proud of you!"

"Of course I'm happy for you too but this is a big life decision and you're not even a young adult yet?"

"I'm old enough to get married and I'll be a young adult next year. Besides I'll be staying with family."

"Okay but you know to stay away from the Noble's."

"Of course Mom"

A few weeks later Stefan arrived in Finchwick. The town was covered in a fresh layer of snow but Stefan was far too exhausted to fully enjoy it's beauty. His cousin Rosalie and her new husband Mason were waiting for him as he rolled off the train and stumbled into the Town Center

"About time you got here! We've been waiting in the cold for hours!"

"Sorry the train was delayed because of the snow."

"Well maybe you should have waited for spring."

"By then the twins would be toddlers and Uncle Reuben wouldn't need my help. Besides, I know you missed me."

He opened his arms to give her a hug but she cringed. "I don't do hugs."

Mason suddenly stepped in to break the tension. "Hey what's a duck's favorite part of the news? The Feather Forecast!"

"Oh! What's a llama's favorite drink? Llamanade!"

"Rosalie was not impressed.

The Harris' dropped Stefan off at the farmhouse where he'd spent many of his formative years. The exotic plant in the corner and the walls covered in paintings proved that the house was run by his art-loving aunt and not his practical grandmother. It was different but so familiar

"Ah you're finally here!" A man raced down the stairs excitedly.

"You must be Uncle Gavin, it's nice to finally meet you. I love what you've done with the place"

"Ah the wall, yes isn't it amazing. Rachel really has an eye for asthetic." He gushed with a dreamy look in his eye.

"Oh I'm sure you want to meet the babies! But we just laid them down for their nap!"

"Darling give the poor boy a rest. He came here to work the farm, not take care of babies."

"I'm sorry! I'm just so excited they're finally here. We've been trying for nearly a decade!"

Rachel rolled her eyes affectionately. "I'm sure you're tired. We cleaned up your old room for you. It's got a real bed now, not a bunk bed. Feel free to do whatever you want with it. It's your space. Reuben is out of town so take your time."

"Thank you so much Aunt Rachel."

A few days later Reuben returned "Uncle Reuben! I'm so glad your back, I'm excited and ready to work with you and learn everything I can about the business!"

"Thank you Gavin." Reuben answered dismissively.

Gavin shook his head and whispered loudly, "He doesn't like me."

Gavin slipped from the room and Reuben closed his book, standing to his feet. "Come with me." Stefan followed him into the office that had once been his grandfathers. The darker hues and lack of decoration was jarring compared to the rest of the house and made Stefan nervous.
