N. Hischier - Soulmates ‘N All That
Tumblr media
✄————————————
Nico Hischier x Fem!reader
Word Count: 2.8k
Warning(s): None? The word ‘sex’ once?
—————————————
I thought you into my life, woah
Look at my mind, yeah
My feet are aching. I’ve been pacing the floor in my one room apartment for too long. I made this job happen. Photography. For a hockey team. What if I wasn’t any good? What if they decided I was horrible?
They looked at my portfolio, but those were mostly still shots. I had to take moving pictures of these players. I could do it. I had a million pictures of moving objects, but what if I just- what if my skill flew right out the window when it came time to work?
No better place or a time
Look how they align
The team was wonderful from day one. I grew close with Dougie Hamilton fairly quickly. I preferred to call him Dougie Ham. Or DH. He was often around to play jokes on me or ask questions about my camera. He helped the guys warm up to my constant presence.
My career so far has been nothing but amazing. I realized after a few months, that I may have worried myself too much and put too much pressure on myself. Getting photos was incredibly easy. Choosing the best ones was the hard part. And making sure I had equal content of the team. The Captain was alway slipping out of my shots and escaping rooms when I entered. I just assumed he was camera shy.
Universe must have my back
Practices were my favorites. The guys would occasionally stop for photos when I asked, and when they had water breaks. After most, when they were dismissed, I would step onto the ice and snatch a few for some closeup action shots. Still never Nico. It frustrated me.
I did manage a good picture of him once.. the photo that started it all.
Fell from the sky into my lap
I sat patiently on the bench while coaches shouted and instructed the guys around the ice. They were trying new drills, and new line combinations. Everything was going swimmingly, until I heard one of the coaches pipe up.
“Jesper! Get Hischier off the ice.” There was amusement in his tone, and I turned my camera down to the opposite end of the ice to see Lindy holding a skate blade while Jesper helped get Nico over to the bench. I giggled and took a few photos.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find Nico attractive, but I never got close enough to his face to know if he was as pretty as the internet said.
“Good job, bud.” Jesper taunted, reaching over the bench door to unlock and open it. He let Nico off the ice first, and the captain gently pushed him for the teasing.
Jesper stumbled on the ice as his skates slipped out from beneath him. I laughed softly and took a few photos as he grabbed the bench wall to steady himself.
“Damnit, Nico.” He snapped, though it was heartfelt frustration. Jesper stepped up onto the bench and gave his captain a bit harsher of a shove. Usually nothing to bat an eye at, but Nico didn’t have a skate blade on one foot, and I was directly behind him.
He tried to catch his weight on his messed up skate, and before I knew it, I was pulling my camera off my neck and raising my arms to keep it out of his collision course. Instead he landed on my thighs.
“Oh shit- oh dude.” Jesper was scrambling for an apology as mine and Nico’s faces went red. I had no words.. but everything was awkward now. Fix it.
I slowly lowered my camera, my heart fluttering as Nico let out an anxious giggle and forced a thick accented, ‘sorry’ from his lips. I shrugged, pointed the camera at his face, and snapped a few photos.
“If you’d stop running from me, people wouldn’t have to shove you in my direction.” I hinted passively. His cheeks turned as red as his jersey.
“Get up, you’re crushing me.”
And I know you know that you're my soulmate and all that
Nico and I began going on dates after that. By the third week we called it official. During the off season he took me to Switzerland to meet his family. During the holidays we celebrated, sometimes together, sometimes with his team. I was there for any award ceremony or charity event. Even the ones I didn’t have to attend.
We got an apartment together after the first year. The second year we started considering what a future might look like.
“Nico, it’s just a storm. The balcony won’t blow off.” I tried to pry my lover from the window of our apartment, my arms wrapped around his back while he stood there with his hands on his hips. He wasn’t afraid of storms, it was the aftermath that made him nervous. His hometown always experienced floods and landslides after heavy rainfalls like the one New Jersey was experiencing now. He must have never grown out of that fear that something may happen.
“Just a little while longer.. just let me look a little longer,” Nico whispered as I shook my head from behind him. He’d torture his mind all night by that window if I kept giving in to him saying his version of ‘five more minutes.’
“Come have a snack with me.” I pressed a kiss to Nico’s back. “My mom left fudge in the fridge before she left.” I pulled away, my hands sliding from his stomach to his hips before I turned to walk away.
I just entered the threshold of the kitchen when I heard Nico’s heavy steps following behind me. “Fudge?”
I giggled, shaking my head. I opened the fridge and pulled the small Tupperware container out, kicking the door shut before I hopped up onto the counter. I watched Nico approach with curious eyes, brow raised as he reached out to pull the lid off the container. Always in a rush to get to the sweets.
I smacked his hand away, holding the container out of reach. “You can have some, but you have to promise me no more looking out the window.” Nico’s lips pursed as his head tilted to the side, silently and sarcastically asking me if I was serious.
“You haven’t relaxed all night, baby. It’s a storm. Not a hurricane.”
“Fine. I’ll shut the blinds before we go to bed.”
“Absolutely not. You’ll go to bed, and I’ll shut the blinds.” I held my free hand out to him. “Shake on it.” I insisted. Nico’s eyes flickered between my own and my hand before he let out a dramatic sigh, smiling and shaking my hand.
“verlass mich nie,” he whispered as he leaned his side against the counter, his smile widening when I handed him a piece of fudge. Never leave me.
“I don’t know what you said,” I whispered, matching his dreamy tone with a sarcastic one in my own voice.
My whole life got me ready for you, ooh
Nico proposed to me a month later, and we prepped for our wedding for a year. We were coming up on five months from the set date. I showed my ring off to everybody. He showed the video off to his team.
“Do you have a house yet?” My mother asked me as we sifted through dresses at a bridal shop.
“No. Nico and I plan to spend one more year in our apartment after we’re married.” My mother looked perplexed, and I could understand why. We’d have all of this new stuff from gifts people gave us, and no place to put it all.
“Why?”
“Because the team is really good this year. Nico doesn’t want me moving into some new house all alone if he’s in the playoffs.” I completely agreed with Nico. When we got a house, I wanted to move in with him. We hadn’t necessarily agreed to a year, but that was the longest we were willing to wait before buying a home, so it’s what we told everybody.
“What about this one?” My mom pulled a dress out. My heart was set on it the second I tried it on.
Got me happy, happy
I'ma be happy, happy, yeah
“Nico.. I love you. I have every second of every day, since the day you fell into me,” I whispered my vows over and over under my breath as I looked in the mirror. The wedding didn’t have to be perfect. Everything could be on fire and complete chaos around me. As long as my vows were spotless, I would be content.
The week before the wedding, Nico had kicked me out of our apartment for a few hours, telling me to go shopping or ask one of the wags out for dinner. He wouldn’t tell me why at first, but after much questioning, he informed me that he had to record his vows. Not everybody in his family spoke English, so he told me he had to record it in the language they would understand. I reasoned that I wouldn’t know a word he spoke anyway, but he insisted that if I still heard his vows, it wouldn’t feel right when he spoke them again at the altar.
This was the same guy who always tried to sneak a peek at my notebook full of ideas for my own vows. I had to make him promise not to look at the notebook two days into his mischief.
“I hope he’s going to be happy with them.” I picked up the skirt of my dress to walk across the room I got ready in, staring myself down in the full length mirror.
“Sweetie..” my best friend smiled. “He’s never disliked a single thing you’ve ever done.”
Won't get no crying from me, yeah
Gonna be happy, happy
I walked down the isle, my hands shaking and my eyes already tearing up at the sight of my fiancé. I had no regrets. I will never have regrets when it comes to Nico. This was the man I wanted to spend my life with.
“…And I understand, you’ve prepared your own vows?” The priest questioned, looking between us. I nodded, my eyes searching Nico’s face as a silent question. Who was going first.
“You.. you go.” I could tell he was nervous as he spoke, but I’d argue I was more worried than he was. He encouraged me with a smile.
“Okay..” I breathed out a sigh. I loved him. Every word would roll off my tongue the way it was supposed to whether it happened like I rehearsed or not.
“Nico… I love you. I have every second of every day, since the day you fell into me. In the next few minutes, a new commitment is going to be made. I’ve made many in my life, and you’ve made your own. I’ve been known to abandon my commitments. There are some things I simply can’t stick with. But every commitment I’ve ever made with you, I have seen through. You have stood by me through my hardest days and my coldest nights. Fights I’ve instigated, and tears I’ve cried. We have shared our everything. Clothes, songs, foods and movies. A home. Now we share our lives. Our entire beings, with one another. You are the foundation I stand on, and the anchor that holds me to the ground when I fear I might fly away. I hope I have been the same for you. And I hope I can keep being the same.. for the rest of eternity.” Tears stung my eyes. I could see Nico fighting to keep his own from going glassy. “Ich liebe dich.”
Surprise flashed in Nico’s eyes. I hadn’t told him I was practicing any German for this. And despite it being a short sentence, it was one I knew he wished I would reply to in his first language at least once.
“Sir?” The priest interrupted our silence. Nico nodded, pulling his hands away from my own to grab a few notecards from his back pocket.
“I hope you don’t mind I wrote them down? I was.. I was afraid I might forget a word.” Nico searched for a sign of disapproval in my features. His nervousness only made me giggle and shake my head.
“You’re fine.. I’ll still love you.. notecards or not.” It was his turn to chuckle, stepping a bit closer to me as I reached out to rest my hands on his forearms. Nico drew in a shaky breath, tears already forming in his eyes again. “Take your time, baby.” I whispered, my heart swelling. Nico was only an emotional man in front of certain people. But even on his wedding day, he couldn’t hold his usual facade.
“I used to avoid you.. when you came to work for the Devils. When I first saw you I thought you were.. just the prettiest girl I’d ever seen. You made me nervous.. your camera made me nervous.” Nico smiled, glancing up at me. “I used to think that if you took too many pictures you might see too many imperfections. Instead I stand here now, knowing that you’ve seen me at my worst and my best. When my hair has been too long,” this earns a few giggled laughs from our guests. “And when it’s been too short.” This time it’s Jack who laughs. The exact person who is to blame for Nico’s hair being ‘too short’ at one point. “You have always opened every door to me in a time of need. Especially the bathroom door when you’re doing your skincare stuff.” I laughed softly.
Taking my makeup off at the end of the day took enough time in and of itself, but then my skincare routine added to that amount. I usually left the door closed for a bit of privacy and space, but there was the occasional times when Nico would start knocking on the door begging to be let in because he had to go to the bathroom.
“But the doors I am most grateful for being opened, have been the ones in your mind, and your heart. You allowed me to love you.. and you trusted me with every piece of yourself. You’ve given me a chance to prove my worth, and to love something more than anything else I have. I would build castles for you, and tear down any wall in your way just to see you smile. We may grow old together, but we will never grow apart. I will love you until my heart no longer beats, and my body is six feet under. And after that, whatever may be in that distant afterlife, I will love you again, and again, and again.” Nico sniffled, by now I had tears running down my cheeks.
“du bist mein Seelenverwandter,” Nico finished with words I did not recognize, but he translated for me, without putting up his usual cheeky fight. “You are my soulmate.”
After the ‘I do’s’ were exchanged, and rings were put on fingers, Nico and I shared our first kiss as a married couple. Neither of us could rightfully express the feelings in our hearts, but we knew we’d simply squeeze the life out of one another if we hugged. It was that ‘it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die’ kind of feeling. A soulful, vast, and intense kind of love.
Imma be happy, happy
“Lord, Nic.” I giggled as we sat at a table near the front of the reception hall. We were the center of attention, but it didn’t feel like it. My bridal party and his groomsmen were off doing their own thing, and the rest of our friends and families were all conversing over food. Which was what Nico and I had been doing, until he got up to grab a plate full of my mother’s fudge.
“If you get sick tonight, we can’t have sex.” I informed him, reaching out to gently squeeze his leg. “Slow down.” Nico gave me a cautious look before resting his hand atop my own. His fingers found my engagement ring and my wedding band.
“When you said, ‘I love you’ today…” Nico’s brow furrowed in thought.
“I learned it for you. I wanted to do more, but my schedule was too busy for classes.” I smiled at him, his eyes finding my own.
“I’m content if ‘I love you’ is all you ever know.” Nico flashed me a bright smile. “Now please eat this fudge with me.. I did get too much, and I really don’t want it to go to waste.”
I laughed and shook my head at him. “Nic, I’m in a white dress. Go give it to Jack and the kids.” I nodded toward the middle Hughes brother, seated at a table full of kids and entertaining them with paper footballs.
“I won’t be gone long,” Nico promised, quickly standing up and grabbing the small dish. He pressed a kiss to my head before going to sugar up the children.
Imma be happy, happy
I leaned back in my seat, smiling as I observed the jovial atmosphere around myself. I looked back down at my ring, shaking my head in disbelief. Committing to Nico was single-handedly the best decision I’ve ever made. I will never make a better one.

June Vision.
It’s only the end of June and I been feeling something different about this summer so far. My anxiety has made picking up signals, ideas, thoughts, and assumptions something extremely intense, all for better or worse. All new things I never seen before. Shakespeare wrote that nothing is inherently good or bad, it’s all how you think of it. How I’ll put everything into use is all on me now. Maybe it’s wanting to be with good trendy company but having to drive home on a clear pristine night, feeling like you still should be out. It’s looking up to a bright blue sunny sky with nowhere to go and nothing you can do. Or, wanting to open up with someone but you just can’t bring yourself to do it because of the consequences. Anxiety is a hidden dirty lock that keeps even the free in check. All this great energy goes to waste because of depression and the uncertain.
Indie and certain artists seen here are something I normally don’t identify with. When chips fall as they may and land with who and what’s around me or where I am, then I take notice. It becomes a vision. Maybe it’s the sweet colorful sounds of Cults, Pond, Mitski & Xiu Xiu, Negative Gemini, and Cellars that help capture me in specific places and situations I normally don’t find myself in. Preoccupations (then Viet Cong) and Frigs add a breathtaking air that never hurts to think about. Then there’s Basic Nature “Love Won’t Always Be There”, the damning sting to certain critical defeats. But, it doesn’t have to end up that way, right?
This is the June vision. Songs translate into feelings and personal vibes, inserting themselves into the meta game that is time. That’s the running theme of Omega+. It’s been a down time as of recent. Thankfully, I have friends, family, and allies I talk to in alleviating this passing difficult stress. I already have photography, artistic direction, and various shows in New York City lined up to make the good happen. July and August are waiting. People are waiting. New opportunities and experiences are waiting. Who knows what colors and ideas I’ll be experiencing then. So what are we waiting for?

Gahé Dzíł / Mountain Spirits
-Crisosto Apache
always for my family
Circling around flames and dancing with the blazes
Encumbering sparks take flight into the night sky,
A swirling twinkle resembling a star crown
Moving into empty canopies resembling ghosts
A threshold colossal structure with rusty bells shakes
the sound of fire sings lingering beyond the flames
sent across the mountain and valleys
These spirits come from the mountains and move towards
the south, between the sacred narrow canyons,
The Sierra Madre Canyon walls sing in their echoes
A medicine reveals a stick and brings the wall down
For the Ndé—the people who wandered into night
Ascending towards the ending sky and onto the lost land
Losing their tongues and eyes they consume the mountain
Air and waters trying to heal all their lungs that bellowed
Outward against the slow breezes and heavy breaths
A hundred years the spirits protected them from
the sixteenth calvary who then believed, in all their hearts,
a good Injun was a dead Injun. Even then the spirits protected
the people for another twenty-seven years until they reached
—their forced destination
A place where cutting their hair died as the spirits watched
The people searched the underground catacombs of St. Augustine
While hearing the waves crash against the stone walls
Outside the thick walls, the people were exposed
To yellow fever and malaria, they died and died
—some survived
After thirty more years the people returned to their homeland
closer to the Skeleton Canyons where an epic scribed
on the mountain walls called back their ancestors
At night the drumming echoed like the murmur inside
Their bodies hearing the loud thumps come and go
In 1986 the people returned to their original place
—entering the ancient canyons
—honoring those killed
—remembering the mountains
At night the sparks fly high as the people hear those rusty bells
and hollow songs —they feel the drums and footsteps reverberate
Inside their veins every time, they look to the mountains

INTRO TIME cuz everyone else has one apparently-

Ps. That means ask me things :)
Helloooo my name’s Maddy or Grimm. This is my Nonhuman etc. blog. So I’ll be posting and reblogging whatever identity related stuff here, some memes maybe. Anyhow, here’s…
Some stuff about me~
• I’m 20 years old in this body, and my birthday is on the 25th of May.
• I’m a straight cis female, so she / her pronouns would do just fine.
• I’ve been awakened since about 2014 ish, and I’m a spiritual Therian, Otherkin, Alterhuman, Nonhuman, Fictionfolk / Fictionkin, however you wanna call it 😂 Meaning I believe all if not most of my identities / kintypes are rooted from alternate lives, such as: Past, Future, Parallel, and Dream lives. I also display traits of experiencing some sort of age / pet regression, but I’m not sure if I fit the label entirely. But regressors are welcome here if you follow the dni! I try to keep the place as safe and family friendly as possible 😊
• Only a handful of my identities I’ve discovered are semi psychological tho. But they are not derived from imprinting, neurodivergence, or trauma. I also prefer to use the term identity, instead of therio / kin / ficto type etc.
• The label I use most in terms of my nonhumanity, is Omninonhuman! A term I coined for myself. Meaning I identify as all animals, beings, creatures, nature, etc. Basically anything and everything that’s nonhuman! Including, but not limited to: All earthly and non-earthly animals, beings, creatures, extant, extinct, insects, dirt, grass, plants, trees, flowers, fungi, rocks, stone, metals, crystals, water, land, sky, clouds, biomes, magical, mystical, mythical, mythological, supernatural, celestial, cosmic, galactic, divine, holy, unholy, infernal, universal, etc. Though, I connect more with wolves, or just canines in general lol.
• I have depression, social anxiety, body and species dysphoria. Are name, personality and voice dysphoria a thing as well, perhaps? Lol. Also I’m a vegan for the animals :)
Some fandoms I’m in + interests of mine~
• Animals

• Creating playlists on Spotify
• Drawing
• Listening to music
• Photography
• Playing video games

• Watching YouTube
• Writing
Some fun facts about me~
• I absolutely love animals. I aspire to be an Animal & Nature Conservationist / Own an animal rescue ( domestic or wild ). I am against all forms of animal abuse, agriculture, cruelty, exploitation, use, etc., as I am a true vegan through and through, and so I do not support the therian real animal part gear obsession. If you support that or other related things, do not interact with me.
• I absolutely love talking about my alternate / past lives, even though I may not know a whole bunch about them. And I would be more than happy to listen to others speak of their lives as well! Alternate / past lives in general are all very intriguing to me
• I’m a huge fan of Pewdiepie and Markiplier. I watch their videos everyday, they just make me so happy. I love to laugh, and they make me laugh more than anyone honestly. They’re my gods lol
• I have a habit of either capitalizing words that don’t abide by the laws of human grammar. Or I alphabetize every thing I list. Oh, and my favorite colors are beige, black, cream, gold, gray, lavender, tan, and white :3
……
…Did you notice it?
Anyway! As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a spiritual otherkin. Meaning I believe I’ve had past or alternate lives of my kintypes! That being said, here are…

Robert Smithson - Environmental Artist
Tumblr media
The Artist I will be analysing is Robert Smithson, known for sculpture and land art who often used drawing and photography in relation to the spatial arts. Smithson was one of the founders of the Land Art movement whose best known work is the Spiral Jetty.  Smithson is known for his land art but has also worked in the modern art period.
Tumblr media
This artwork is very eye catching due to the spiral looking like a whirlpool adding visual impact.  This artwork reminds me of the artist Andy Goldsworthy as he too worked with Spirals within his artwork using stones and this too uses stones but the scale is far more in depth due to Smithson having to create his own path using natural materials which is also what I am doing which is why I am inspired by Smithson's work due to the time and effort this piece took due to him creating this piece for 6 days.  The horizon line in the background gives off a calm atmosphere as well as the blue sky and water to help make you feel relaxed and can almost hear the water from only the image.
Tumblr media
This photo is an aerial shot high up in the sky looking down at this spiral path.  Looking at the spiral path from this view makes the spiral resemble the tail of a Chameleon.  This Photo has a lot of warm tones making you feel some type of joy and belonging to the image although by having very minimal detail within the photo and by having these dark colours Smithson has created the opposite effect making it mysterious.  This image also looks like a wood shaving due to the orange tones resembling wood and by taking the image high in the sky. So by having this image took so far away it has managed to create the opposite effect due to it looking also like a macro shot of wood.
Tumblr media
‘Broken Circle’ : In this image we see a lot of different shades of greens, the grass and trees are very vibrant and give off a tranquil atmosphere but by having the water a mucky green colour it gives off a different mood as you cannot see what is in the water due to how mucky it is giving off an uneasy atmosphere due to not knowing what could be in the water.  This also looks like something you would see in a golf course due to the unusual shapes of the shore that Smithson has created making it stand out and creating visual impact.
Tumblr media
This is an sculpture created by Smithson, this is a very unique piece.  This sculpture gives off a unsettling atmosphere due to the distressed face on the back which could be resembling back pain and it screaming from the pain.  It is still not fully dry showing that the sculpture could have been changed form when this has been took.  There is a contrast between the mans face being calm and relaxed and the face on his back screaming showing the emotions within him trying to escape.

Art Fundamentals: The 5 Basic Elements
Art is an incredibly diverse and captivating form of expression that allows us to communicate our thoughts, feelings, and ideas through visual means. It encompasses everything from photography, painting, and sculpture to graphic design and fashion. It’s a medium that can be used to create anything imaginable. Whether you're a seasoned artist or someone who has never picked up a paintbrush, there are five essential elements of art that are important to understand and master: line, shape, form, texture, and color.
If you’re just starting out as an artist, it's important to understand the foundations before you jump into your first major project. There are basic elements of art, design principles, artistic techniques, and creative dynamics that you must learn to grow as an artist. Art also follows specific rules and guidelines depending on the medium you choose. These guidelines were developed throughout the course of history to help people better understand the experience of creating and consuming art.
While it can seem a bit overwhelming, all of these foundations are important to study and eventually master as an artist. These skills will help you create amazing art faster than if you were to try it without practice. The first thing you want to have a good grasp on is understanding the five basic elements of art. These are your building blocks for creating compelling images.
Lines
Line is the most basic element of art and is simply a mark that spans a distance between two points. It can be thick or thin, straight or curved, and used to create everything from simple outlines to complex patterns. Lines can be used to suggest movement, express emotion, or create a sense of depth and perspective in a composition. There are many different types of lines that you can use to create interesting art pieces.
Lines that define shapes are called contour lines. These are the lines that can create the illusion of shapes and forms without the use of shading. They’re mostly used in sketches to draft out a plan for a final image. Implied lines are lines that aren’t actually drawn but are created by connecting two points of a composition with our minds. Sight lines are a good example of this. The direction in which subjects are looking or pointing towards creates lines when they connect with another point in an image.
Leading lines in photography are lines from objects and backgrounds in the frame that lead the viewers eyes to different parts of the image. These lines can also create a sense of depth or perspective by separating the foreground from the background. The horizon line is the line that separates the sky from the land or water, and it’s also the height of the viewer's eyes when looking at a scene or object.
Lines can appear as organic or geometric. Organic lines are loose, curvy, and winding. These are usually found in nature and organic bodies like vines in a forest, waves in the ocean, or the hair of a horse's mane. Using these lines effectively can create a sense of visual flow. Geometric lines are perfectly straight or curved and are commonly found in manmade objects like technology or architecture. Symmetrical or parallel lines can create a sense of balance and harmony, while perpendicular lines can create a sense of stability or organization.
It's important to understand how to use lines when creating an immersive composition. You want to pull the viewer into the frame and draw their eyes to points of interest. If done incorrectly, it can break the viewer's immersion and create a sense of confusion which can be a bit off-putting. To avoid this issue, start with the end in mind. Where do you want the viewers to go? How will you lead them there? Lines allow you to become a tour guide for your viewer as you lead them through your composition.
Shape
Shape is another essential element of art and refers to the two-dimensional area that is defined by a boundary, such as a line or contrasts between values or colors. You can think of shapes as the marriage between lines and space. Like lines, shapes can also be organic or geometric. And like space, it can be positive or negative. Some objects have shapes that are positive, which is the inherent shape you can clearly see. When other objects or elements form a boundary around empty space, that space is considered to be a negative shape.
Functionally, shapes can be used to create the foundation of a composition. This element makes images recognizable and readable. Shapes help create dynamic relationships between elements in an image like perspective, scale, symmetry, and balance. You can use shapes to organize and separate elements or emphasize areas within the frame. As lines guide your viewer through a composition, shapes can cause viewers take a pause and analyze the image.
Intuitively, shapes can evoke a certain mood or emotion in your images. Organic rounder shapes create a sense of movement, calmness, and harmony. These types of shapes resemble shapes in nature. Geometric shapes with straight lines can create a sense of stability, rigidity, and strength. These kinds of shapes are mostly found in manmade infrastructure. Pointed angles create a sense of direction or urgency and irregular shapes can create feelings of uneasiness or chaos. Using shapes effectively helps create a foundational ambience for the atmosphere.
Shapes can also be representational, meaning they can be used as a reference to conceptual ideas or real-world objects. Consider how the shape of a heart isn’t the shape of an actual heart but is more of a symbol for love and passion. In this way, shapes are much more useful as conceptual devices like symbolism or storytelling.
Form
Forms are 3-Dimensional figures. They're essentially shapes that have an appearance of depth in an image. Unlike their 2-Dimensional counterparts that are formed from boundary lines or color, forms are built from light and shadow. Forms are described as being more "life-like" compared to flat figures. Like lines and shapes they can also be geometric or organic, but regardless of either quality, forms still appear as an object that can exist in reality.
In visual art however, what we actually see is a flat surface of a canvas or a digital screen. This means form isn’t created in the same way a sculptor would in comparison to a painter or photographer. 2-D Artists need to use value, light and shadow, in order to create the illusion of depth and form. When using value to create forms, there are three aspects of light you need to understand.
There are highlights, the light that directly hits the object and usually the brightest parts of the subject. There are midtones which are the blend of light and shadows, usually just the natural color and value of the object itself. And there are the shadows, the darkest parts of the object. As an artist, considering how light hits an object in the real world will help you create a convincing sense of depth and form.
Changes in perspective reveal the various angles of a form which can all give off 2-D different shapes depending on the lighting on value of the surfaces. Think of how a coffee cup is a circle from the top perspective while shaped like a cylinder from the side. Experimenting with the use of form in relation to perspective and lighting is a great way to generate interest and immersion. Artists that have mastered the use of form can create objects in their images that appear as if you can reach out and grab them.
Texture
Texture refers to the surface quality of an object and can be created through the use of different materials or techniques. It can be real based on form or implied based on lines and color. It can be smooth or rough, shiny or dull. Texture adds depth, detail, tonal variance, and a sense of tactile realism in a composition.
Consider an object and how it’s perceived when it has different qualities of texture. A rock that’s smooth and round like a pebble versus a stone with harsh jagged edges. What’s the difference in mood between these different qualities? One may make you think of serenity in a beach setting and the other a treacherous area like a cliff. Texture helps set the tone for the atmosphere you create.
Combined with other basic elements, it adds an entirely new dimension to your work. It also strongly affects the emotion and mood depending on the quality of texture you capture. It helps create a deeper feeling of immersion by allowing the viewer to imagine how the surfaces in your photos feel. Textures in your composition also interact with the lighting and colors used to define them. Harsh lighting and contrasting colors bring out more details while softer tones smooth things out.
Understanding the dynamics of texture helps to capture the viewer's attention. Like with shapes and forms, textured areas cause the viewers to analyze the image. The more texture an area has, the more the viewer's eyes will move toward it, so choose your composition wisely in that regard. Texture in areas that don't hold significance can be considered distracting. Naturally, the human mind is wired to find patterns in the world around us. Textures that stand out the most usually contain repeated lines and shapes. The denser the textures, the more it pulls the eye to it.
Color
Color is perhaps the most complex element of art and refers to the hues and tones that are used in a composition. Like any other element, color can be used to create contrast and balance in a composition. Color can also be applied to every element in a composition. Color is a special element in a sense because it can have an immense effect on creating emotion, mood, or atmosphere. This is because color follows a certain psychology and can even affect people in a physiological way like inducing hunger or relaxation.
When light bounces off of objects, the light that's reflected back into human eyes has a perceived color. This means we can use color in our art to showcase different depictions of the world as we see it. We can use connotations of color to communicate how environments and objects make us feel. Artists have to keep this in mind when choosing colors to compose an image.
There are three properties a color can have: hue, value, and saturation. Hue refers to the color itself which is distinct from any other color. It's essentially the "name" of the color. Value is how light or dark the hue is. You can achieve this by adding or subtracting light from the hue which will give it different tints of shades. Saturation is the intensity or purity of the hue. High saturation appears brighter and high and in contrast to other colors. Low saturation appears dull and blends in easier with other colors.
Color is divided into various different categories, but a major way we define color is by its temperature and tone. Cool colors are blues and greens and can invoke a calming serene effect, much like the colors in nature. It may even reduce blood pressure and appetite. Warmer colors are reds and yellows. These colors can be associated with emotions ranging from happiness and passion to danger and violence. These colors stimulate the appetite and excite the mind.
Each individual color has its own psychological effects on the viewer and can be combined with other colors to create a unique atmosphere or mood. Through mixing and combining colors, we can even portray various dynamics in art like volume, depth, and perspective. This is called “color harmony.” It's based on a set of guidelines for effectively using the color spectrum called “color theory.” As an element of art, color is extremely significant to the overall impact of visual art. Mastering color theory takes time. Practice with patience.
Applying Artistic Elements
As an artist, applying the five elements of art is essential in creating works that are truly impactful and visually stunning. Take your time exploring different ways to intentionally use these elements to communicate emotions, create visual narratives, and interact with the viewer’s mind. By studying and eventually mastering these elements, you'll be able to communicate your creative vision more effectively and create art that truly resonates with your audience.
For those who are self-taught or have never studied the basics of art, it's never too late to start. Understanding the elements of art can open up a whole new world of creative expression and provide the tools you need to create works that you never thought possible. It can be a challenging journey, but it's one that's well worth the effort. You may be surprised at what you're capable of once you've mastered the basics.
If you don't consider yourself to be an artist but have a strong interest in creative works, learning about the fundamentals of art can help you explore your own imagination. Not only will it deepen your appreciation for the art that you enjoy, but it will also unlock new ways to view the world around you. You may start to notice the way lines intersect, the shapes of everyday objects, and the textures of the environment around you in a whole new way.
Whether you're new to the creative world or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills, the five elements are a critical aspect of creating impactful and visually stunning works. Studying these fundamentals will unlock your creative potential. Over time, you’ll quickly understand why they’re the key to your success and longevity as an artist. Don't be afraid to dive into the world of art and explore the possibilities of what you can create. The journey may be challenging, but the rewards are priceless.

Moon Land in Ladakh: A Traveller's Guide
Tumblr media
You must have heard about your lands but have you heard about your "Moon Land" so today we will tell you about the moon land. Lamayuru which is called the Moon land of Ladakh which we will talk about in this vlog. Built on the rugged land of the Indian Himalayas, this is a small village in Ladakh. This unique destination is famous for its surreal and supernatural terrain, which is very similar to the surface of the moon.
Moonland is 125 km west of Leh. If you are going to Ladakh or planning to go then you must include Lamayuru in your itinerary. You will get to see the beauty of Ladakh which will make you feel like being on the land of the moon.
Tumblr media
After all, what is so special about Lamayuru that makes it different and beautiful, its appearance is like a moon and it is surrounded by broken and barren mountains. Its shape is formed by the erosion of wind and water over centuries. Its structure has large peaks and valleys around it which give the feeling of being on the moon.
It is said that millions of years ago Ladakh was submerged in the Tethis Ocean and when the Indian subcontinent collided with the Eurasian plate, the sea floor rose up to form the Himalayan mountain range. The structure of moonland is the remains of ancient marine sediments which are seen today after centuries of air pressure.
Tumblr media
Lamayuru village is also home to one of the most important monasteries of Ladakh. It was founded in the 11th century by Mahasiddhacharya Naropa.
If you are thinking or planning to visit Lamayuru then the best time is between May to September. During this time the weather is favorable and the roads are also open. In this weather the sky is clear and the mountains look very beautiful which is very good for photography.
