Lower Falls at Bandelier National Monument on 12/15/24. A flash flood after the 2011 Las Conchas fire wiped out all the sediment used to build a trail to the bottom. No one has been able to find a safe way down on foot since then. You can very carefully stand off to the basalt side to see it from the top, or access outside the park and walk many many trail less miles to see it from the bottom.

Left photo is pre fire from the now wiped out switchbacks. Right photo is from a few years after the catastrophic flooding from a brave soul who bushwhacked along the Rio Grande. Note the house sized boulder at the top was washed away by the flood!
About 3/4 of the length of the canyon burned, followed immediately by heavy monsoon rain. There were multiple catastrophic floods with thousands of cubic feet of water per second in an area that normally flows at 0-3 cubic feet per second. In some places the fire burned so hot that the volcanic soil turned to glass. Some of the park’s picnic tables washed up dozens of miles down the Rio Grande in the Cochiti Reservoir.
Even 13 years later, a large flood happened this summer in this canyon that wiped out nearly all the footbridges and carved the canyon so deep near the upper falls that the pool at the base can no longer be access by foot. See the new ledge created in the left photo below. Compare to the right photo from spring 2024- all that vegetation got washed away

Its said as one would say "fuck" or "shit"
"dead little fly" (mosquita muerta): used when talking about someone acts or is as a poor indefense thing (you dont have to play the dead little fly / tampoco te hagas la mosquita muerta)
"the hill of the ass/ dick" (la loma del culo/ pito): stupid far away
"Go fry churros" (andate a freir churros): vulgar way of telling someone to go away, but its like a non swear word version of "go fuck yourself" (andate a la mierda)
bonus!! Bizarre ways to call the penis!
matafuego de carne (meat fire extinguisher)
pelado (bald man)
poronga (big clay pot, from quichua)
pico (summit/ birds beak/ pickaxe)
chorizo (chorizo)
choto/chota (the end of the thick intestine on a cow. Looks phallic so, yknow. )
pija (comes from hispanic arab pišša thats just the sound of pissing)
pito (whistle, its used in english too but pito is such a funny ass word)
Stage 1: using your native language's idioms in English out of habit/lack of knowledge
Stage 2: using English idioms as much as you can to prove that you're good at English
Stage 3: using your native language's idioms in English because they fuck actually

Una probadita de tu conchita - Endless Summer fic
Three facts that are true: 1- In México, “concha” is a type of sweet bread covered in a crunchy topping, typically eaten during breakfast. 2- In Colombia, “concha” means pussy. 3- Varyyn is trying to learn Spanish. No problems whatsoever could arise from this.
Estela was a little jealous of how quickly the Vaanti learnt languages. It had only been a few months since Varyyn started learning Spanish and he could already communicate pretty well - sometimes the way he phrased things was a little awkward, but otherwise he had great grammar and perfect pronunciation. Estela was far from having any problems when it came to grasping other languages, but the remarkable ease the Vaanti as a species had was not something she thought any human could match.
It did work out in her favor, though. Because Varyyn was very eager to train Spanish as much as he could, and that meant that she got to speak Spanish when it was just the two or three of them, which was a relief.
Not that she struggled otherwise - her English was perfect, thank you very much. It was simply more comfortable that way. What did Diego tell her Varyyn had called it… “The language of his heart”. Speaking in Spanish made her settle into a conversation in the same way she settled into her own skin. It just felt right.
All of that is to say - even though they weren’t exactly close, she felt very at ease right then, talking to Varyyn in the kitchen as they prepared to make food for Diego. He had spent the week in California, visiting abuela Claudia and having some last-minute meetings that the editors insisted couldn’t be done remotely. He would be back in La Huerta in just a few hours, and Varyyn, the romantic that he was, wanted to welcome him with homemade food.
The problem, of course, was that Varyyn was not even particularly skilled at making Vaanti food, nevermind Mexican food. But since Estela was the only Catalyst at the island by then and she was well used to cooking for herself, she offered to help. Also, she had been to just about every country in Latin America, aiding in a revolution or another; she might not be an expert in Mexican cuisine, but she was probably the best help Varyyn could get.
(Well, except for Raj. And probably Milagros, who seemed to be able to draw infinite knowledge out of thin air. She still wondered how the hell Vaanu created him with the ability to drive a jet ski. But Milagros wasn’t there anymore and Raj was busy with his TV show, so Estela was the best realistic option.)
So in short - Estela was feeling very at ease, very confident in herself, peaceful even, maybe just a little sad, but mostly alright, when she calmly and unsuspectingly asked Varyyn what he was planning on making. A normal and predictable question that would, in an ideal world, lead to a normal and predictable conversation.
But there were few adjectives that applied less to La Huerta than “normal” and “predictable”, so naturally Varyyn responded by scratching his head and saying, “I was wondering if you knew how to make, ah…” he paused for a bit, as if trying to build the sentence in his head, “los Colombianos también tienen conchas?”
Do Colombian men also have pussies?
As Estela’s soul left her body, she contemplated her options. She would have been more than happy to stick with option one - set something on fire and stage an escape - but there was some merit to the idea that she could be mature and normal. She didn’t have many flammable items at her disposal, and it had been a pain for them to build this house for the Catalysts, anyway.
And anyway, apparently someone had to have this conversation with Varyyn, and better her than- actually, she couldn’t think of anyone worse to handle this conversation. Where was Michelle when you needed her? Estela was sure that she would have been able to handle this remarkably.
“No. I mean, yes. Well, some of them,” this was why she let Tío Nicolas handle the whole talking and motivating part of planning revolutions. “It’s not- okay, so did Diego explain to you what ‘trans’ and ‘cis’ mean?” Varyyn nodded, cocking his head curiously. “Okay, great. So, hm, there are trans and cis people all over the world, anywhere. It doesn’t really have anything to do with where they’re from. There are plenty of cis men in México, and plenty of trans men in Colombia. Diego just happens to be trans and Mexican.”
Varyyn looked at her in confusion. “And only trans men have conchas?” he asked, like he couldn’t wrap his head around the concept.
That… Was a question she didn’t see coming. What else did he think being trans was about? Maybe the Vaanti’s gender system has nothing to do with genitals. Maybe their genitals are completely different from those of a human. Maybe Estela doesn’t want to keep pursuing thoughts of Varyyn’s genitals. “Yes, only trans men.”
“I see,” Varyyn said, nodding thoughtfully. Estela was just about to pat herself in the back for how she handled this conversation. And then he added: “so you don’t have a concha, then?”
Why is this happening to me, Estela wondered. She didn’t believe in god or karma or anything like that, but she still believed that she never did anything so bad that she deserved this. Well, except for all the murder. But that was justified. If anything, surely she had already had her lifetime’s fill of psychological torture, what with her mother being killed and the entire summer of 2017. And yet, this was her terrible reality: standing there alone in a kitchen with Varyyn, being asked about her genitals, too shocked to do something like launch herself through the window and roll down the cliff and into the sea - anything but answering him.
“Uhm, that’s not- I mean, uh. Well I guess I, I do. I am a woman and… That is to say, cis women have them too,” she said, eloquently.
“You look red,” Varyyn noted.
“Yes. It’s the blood.”
Varyyn looked alarmed. “Blood? Where?”
“In my. Mind.” Estela shook her head. “Let’s start this over.”
“But you said there was blood!” Varyyn replies, frantically searching Estela for injuries.
“No. Well, I mean, yes. But that’s normal. We all have blood.”
Varyyn looked at Estela. Estela looked at Varyyn back. They both looked at each other.
“Anyway.” She continued, “I was just, uh, a little taken aback by your question. I mean, the Vaanti blush too, don’t they? Seraxa looked very purple during the whole ‘Grandma’ incident a while back. I thought she was on the verge of death or something, but then I remembered that red and blue equals purple,” she was kind of rambling by then, and suddenly she realized that she probably should change the topic of this conversation. “Anyway, we should get to baking. This is gonna take a few hours, and Diego is going to board the plane soon.”
As always, the mention of Diego successfully distracted Varyyn. “Yes. Of course,” he nodded.
For a few seconds, she thought there would be peace. She should’ve known that concept would remain as foreign as ever to her, because right after-
“Have you ever tried Diego’s concha?” Estela wondered if it was too late to convert back to Catholicism and ask god to come to her aid. Why did Varyyn keep coming back to this?
“I’m a lesbian,” she answered, because she really didn’t know how else to reply to this question.
Varyyn nodded, but he also frowned slightly. “I’m aware,” he replied, like that didn’t mean anything.
Estela just looked at him, stunned. Was Varyyn… Transphobic? That didn’t seem to make sense. She knew the Vaanti had a sex binary, of course, but they didn’t seem to particularly care about gender, and Diego had told her many times that it was a relief to see how no one cared about that. But maybe they didn’t care because they saw only sex. Maybe Varyyn still saw him differently.
“Diego is a man,” she said, her voice like steel.
“...Yes.” Varyyn was looking at her like she was fucking stupid, which was pretty unfair, considering he was the one who wasn’t making any sense.
“Lesbians… Are not attracted to men.”
“Diego has informed me of the human titles regarding one’s sexual preferences,” he even had the gall to act like he was confused.
“So why would you think I would do that?”
“Why wouldn’t you?” he shrugged, “Diego’s concha is delicious.”
I am dead and this is hell, she thought. That wasn’t true, of course. She wished she was dead. She wished for many things. She wished she had never learnt the Spanish language. A lifetime of cultural displacement would have been worth it if she didn’t get to experience this. She wished it was socially acceptable to shove her head into the sand to avoid awkward conversations. Actually, thinking about it, she didn’t really know how the Vaanti would see that. Maybe they would be perfectly fine with it. Maybe it was time someone put that to the test.
“You look troubled,” Varyyn observed.
God. How could she even begin to explain this to him? “We just, hm, don’t really talk about stuff like this,” she replied, rubbing the back of her neck, “it’s taboo. You know what taboo means, right?” Estela waited until Varyyn nodded. “Right. So it’s best if you don’t go around telling anyone about conchas, or-” she suddenly realized that she really didn’t want to say ‘verga’ to Varyyn, or in front of Varyyn, or within a hundred mile radius of Varyyn, or possibly to anyone ever, “-anything like that.”
Varyyn's eyes looked very wide. “Oh, really?” He said, his voice a bit too awed and vulnerable for this conversation, “I had no idea. It was the first thing Diego showed me.”
Slutshaming is bad, Estela reminded herself, but she really couldn't help but wonder how Diego managed to meet Varyyn pussy first. His clothes were a little torn when they rescued him but it was nothing that bad. Then again, she wasn't exactly checking for crotch tears.
“How taboo is it? You seem like close friends, so is that… Family only?”
She would assume he was doing this on purpose if it weren't for the absolutely wondrous look on his face. “Uh, you probably won't want to show that to your family either. It's more of an intimate partners thing,” seriously, did the Vaanti just show their junk to anybody? Estela thought she would have probably noticed that. Then again, Diego had a 6 months headstart to take the brunt of the cultural shock. Did he get them to cover their stuff before the rest of them were back? Because if so, Estela had a lot to thank him for. Maybe he would appreciate a fruit basket.
“Truly? Did he… Did he really trust me that much, even back then?”
The look on his face was so awed and sweet, Estela even felt her embarrassment ebbing away. As much as she didn't want to know the details of their sex life, the way this obviously meant a lot to Varyyn tugged at her heartstrings. Cultural shock could be awful sometimes, but the two of them always made it look wonderful.
“Well, I can't really speak for the circumstances, but- yes, I do think so. Especially considering that he's trans.”
Varyyn nodded. “If this is a sign of intimacy, I should see to getting Diego some as soon as possible.”
Why
was this happening to her?
“It's not… I mean, I don't think it's about the concha itself. More… The act,” she was pretty sure she'd never been this red before, “that is to say, I'm sure what you've been giving Diego is just as good.”
Varyyn cocked his head curiously, so, in a desperate attempt to avoid further questions, she made a vague gesture towards him that she hoped would convey that dicks were not lesser lovemaking appendages or… Something. Varyyn frowned, then turned towards the counter behind him, still full of ingredients, and she supposed that was at least enough to distract him, because he looked even more concentrated on finishing Diego's meal. He nodded.
“Well, I can see this subject is bothering you, so we shall speak of it no further,” suddenly, Estela understood, clear as day, why Diego fell in love with this man so fast. “Let's focus on what you're comfortable with instead. What kind of desserts do you usually make in Colombia?”
Bit of a non-sequitur, but okay. Desserts were fine, desserts were safe. Estela could work with that. Desserts certainly couldn’t lead to that kind of awkward conversation.
“Well, there’s a lot. Dulce de brevas, postre de natas, flan de coco, enyucada…” Varyyn nodded politely, but he kept glancing at the table, and suddenly she understood. “But I don’t think those will be very familiar to Diego. I was thinking we could make churros.” Not exactly Mexican per se, but popular enough in… All of Latin America, really, that she knew how to make them.
Besides, she was pretty sure Varyyn could give him raw rice and Diego would still be grateful. Emotional even. He was a big fan of single tears running down cheeks and stuff.
So she showed him the steps, and he only mildly fucked it up (a good portion of the first batch was nearly lost because he gripped the piping bag like he was trying to strangle a tiger), and they continued working on Diego’s meal - chilaquiles with frijoles refritos and huevo estallado, nothing fancy but good and simple enough that they have time to fix any mistakes they (Varyyn) might make.
It actually went smoothly.
Until Diego arrived.
Varyyn immediately dropped the last churro into the hot oil, nearly hitting Estela with the skin-melting droplets, and dashed towards the cabin door. “Diego!” he exclaimed in joy, as if he thought he was dead, or something.
Diego laughed. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reuniting with you.”
“Mhm,” Varyyn replied, sounding suspiciously like he had his face buried in Diego’s hair, “your editor meetings are very long.”
“You have no idea,” Diego sighed, finally making his way inside, before a wooshing sound made him yelp. “Oh, you really missed me, huh?”
“It’s not that. Although I did,” Estela could practically hear his smile, “it’s just, I was talking to Estela…”
“Estela?”
She emerged and waved. She did pride herself on her good entrance timing, and the churro had already been removed from the frying oil. “Hey, Guito.”
“Ohh, is that why it smells like food in here?” He grinned. “You know, as opposed to burning charcoal?”
Varyyn smiled slyly. “Estela has been a great help.” Then his face suddenly turned serious, “but that’s not what I wanted to say. Estela told me that conchas were something you only share with an intimate partner. I just… Thank you, Diego, for trusting me so much.” He sounded way too emotional for such a… Well, she'd have to think of qualifiers later, conversation.
Diego flushed in a way that would make Estela feel vindicated if he didn't look so pleased. “I mean… I never really thought of it that way. Is it for weddings in Colombia?”
Was Diego asking her if Colombians save themselves for after marriage? Did he think they were in the Middle Ages or something? “We're notthat old fashioned, Diego, Jesus.”
“Woah, okay, didn't think this was a sore spot,” he said, raising both hands as if Estela was about to put him in a headlock. “It's just not really like that in México? It's pretty casual. A breakfast thing, mostly.”
“A… Breakfast thing?” What in the actual hell was this conversation? Were Mexicans partial to morning sex? And if so, why must she learn about it?
“Yes?” Diego looked puzzled. “Why do you look so shocked? When exactly do Colombians eat conchas?”
“That's- we don't have a set time for it!” God, please, if you're real, smite me now.
God, once again, proved to not be real. “Alright then. Guess I'll avoid serving you conchas in the near future, just to be sure.”
Estela truly prayed that “serving conchas” meant the same thing in México that it did in English, because if not, then what the hell?
Actually, even in that context, what the hell?
“What the hell?”
“What?” Diego asked, looking like he was the one having a conversation that’s completely insane.
“I just, why is everyone so sure that I'd like to eat your-” God, she could feel the red crawling up her face, “just, yours, of all people?”
“Well, now I can't help but be offended. What's wrong with my-”
“Nothing! I mean, I wouldn't know! I don't want to know! You're handfasted to Varyyn anyway, why would you want me to eat your-”
“Again, it's seriously not that big of a deal for us. You can let anyone have your conchas, it's fine-”
“Diego, my love, I feel you're being culturally insensitive. This is clearly important to Colombians, maybe we should just let her be. More for us, anyway. And your other friends, if they're alright with that.”
What. “Are you guys looking for… Threesome partners?” Her voice sounded a bit squeaky.
“No?”
“What's a threesome?”, asked Varyyn.
“Don't worry about it,” the two of them said in worryingly perfect sync.
“Weird thing to proposition out of nowhere, Estela, Jesus. Like, no offense, but we're happy together. Also, I thought you were a lesbian?”
Estela endured years of training to withstand the worst kinds of conditions, which was the only thing keeping her from falling to her knees in agony. “That's what I've been saying!”
“Okay, I can't help but feel like we're having wildly different conversations. What's the deal with conchas in Colombia?”
“There’s no deal-”
“Then why are you being so weird about sweet bread?”
“What?”
“What?”
They stared at each other.
“I believe we are all lost,” Varyyn said solemnly.
“You know, conchas? Sweet bread with crunchy toppings, usually shaped like shells?”
“...Oh,” Estela said, feeling this moment brand itself into her brain to be revisited every time she tried to sleep for the next thousand years. “Oh, god,” she said, crouching and hugging her knees. She didn’t know whether to be relieved or mortified. Varyyn and Diego weren’t asking her to have oral sex with him in the middle of the kitchen. They wanted to make sweet bread.
They were talking about pastries the whole time.
She buried her face in her knees and willed La Huerta to regain its time-messing properties to propel her to the past and keep this from ever happening, but the universe, as ever, didn’t listen. No gods, energies, or saints had ever come to her aid. She had nothing in this world but herself, and it was up to her to deal with this situation.
“Pussy,” she said, miserable.
“...What?” Diego looked like he was going insane.
“Concha,” she said, in English, gritting her teeth and willing herself to withstand the agonizing embarrassment, “means pussy. In Colombia.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah,” Estela agreed.
“Oh, god.”
“Yeah,” Estela agreed.
Diego also slid into the floor and buried his face in his knees. Faint groaning could be heard from his general direction.
“So when Varyyn said he had my concha, you thought he meant-”
“Yeah.”
“And when I said you should try mine, you thought I meant-”
“Yeah.”
“And when-”
“Yeah.”
“Oh, my god.”
“I believe I’m still lost,” Varyyn said. “What’s a pussy?”
“Varyyn, no,” Diego exclaimed, making exact the same face he did when they found Varyyn in the Observatory, “it’s not too late for you. Save yourself.”
“Vagina,” Estela said immediately afterwards. “Pussy is a crass word for vagina.”
“Oh,” Varyyn said, suddenly turning purple. “Oh.”
“Oh,” Diego agreed.
“Oh,” Estela groaned.
They contemplated the truth of those words, each from their spot on the floor.
*
Varyyn eventually cleared his throat. “So, to be clear, there is nothing special about baking someone conchas? You were talking about making love?”
“Try to look less upset, we're literally married.”
“I was feeling very special,” Varyyn smirked.
“Yeah, I bet you were.”
Estela groaned, mostly to remind them that she was still there. The last thing she needed was to end up… witnessing… something again.
*
The world keeps spinning and waits for no one, and humans (and Vaanti) need to eat. So after making the two of them promise to not tell this to anyone else and double checking that Varyyn was not crossing his fingers, they marched to the table like warriors, intent on finishing the day on a positive note.
Estela was surprised to find that the conversation moved smoothly, mostly thanks to Diego’s unwavering talent at running his mouth, and Varyyn’s appreciation of it. As frustrating as editors' meetings were, he was very proud of his book, and the fact that he already knew it would be a bestseller didn’t hurt either. Estela wasn’t exactly familiarized with most of the media he talked about, but when he talked about it, she suddenly understood how magic stories could be. His excitement was contagious, his insights were unique, and the stories filled the room like they once filled his ever-so-lonely heart.
All of that is to say, Estela was feeling fine, recovered even, maybe still a little embarrassed, but mostly alright, when-
“Wait,” Varyyn said. “When you said that what I was giving Diego was just as good, you meant-”
Estela screamed.

*
HERMIT
Blue frosty stones for eyes. Bright hairiness for clothing Except the loins in leather Burnished with sand and sun. A voice distant and small As from across a space. And no man could tell whether He worshipped God the One Or whether stone or fire. Those who saw his face Knew not if to call Him mad or foolish or wise. He had forgotten fear. His body knew no loathing. Warm in his winter cave He did not shrink from sharing His body’s warmth with serpents Whose shell-smooth skin is dry, Whose delicate tongues are fire-points, Whose ways are subtlety. And in the hermit’s ear Always the sound of wave. Always the sound of sea.

The Collectors: Stories ed. by A.S. King
this book won the Printz this year (the first anthology to win that award, i think?) and i've always liked King's work, so i thought i'd give it a go! turned out to be hit or miss for me, but with more hits and partial hits than misses, so overall a quick and quirky read.
all of the stories center around collecting and collections, mostly in intriguing and creative ways. there's a solid range of styles and approaches, some contemporary, some surreal, some more fantastical; it's a mix that i think gives it a wider appeal, though it also means maybe the stories are hit or miss for more people than just me. it won the award though, so some folks really liked it all around!
the particular standouts for me were "Play House" by Anna-Marie McLemore, "Ring of Fire" by Jenny Torres Sanchez, "La Concha" by e.E. Charlton-Trujillo, "We Are Looking for Home" by A.S. King, "A recording for Carole Before It All Goes" by Jason Reynolds, and "Sweet Everlasting" by M. T. Anderson. some familiar names to me, some i'll be seeking out more from because their stories were so great!!
the deets
how i read it: an ebook on Libby, read in about 2.5 hours! gotta say, the more time i spend mixing ebooks and egalleys and physical books, the more i like the variety and flexibility.
try this if you: dig surreality in your contemporary fiction, have ever had a weird collection, or just want a fast and pleasantly experimental read.
a bit i really liked: from "Play House," my favorite of the stories!!
At the kitchen sink, the men assumed they were talking of nothing but dishwashing liquid and scouring pads. "If you give them things," Miranda said, "they'll stay." "They're our neighbors," her mother said. "We have to be polite." She tried to give Miranda the kind of soft smile she gave everyone. But a tendon in her neck stood out, taut as the gusset on the refrigerator.

Aim for excellence — Brown exellence,” actor-producer Wilmer Valderrama told this year’s graduates of the National Hispanic Media Coalition‘s Series Scriptwriters Program as the eight-week intensive came to an end earlier this week.
Valderamma, the “NCIS” and “That ’70s Show” star, is a multihyphenate, activist and entrepreneur and a member of NHMC’s Visionary Alliance of entertainment industry figures who support the organization in Hollywood. He addressed the 10 participants in the TV and film writing program that includes virtual instruction, networking and mentoring opportunities. NHMC has run the Series Scriptwriters writer development program for more than 20 years.
“The writers in the program are an answer to the need to increase Latino representation in our writers rooms and make sure we are telling our own stories,” Valderrama told the group on Dec. 19 via video conference. “As we become the majority as the audience, consumers and storytellers, it is more vital than ever that we are committed to uplifting and supporting new voices.”
Participants in the NHMC program have gone to work on series and pilots for streamers including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu and Max and for such studios as NBCUniversal and Paramount. Valderrama acknowledged that the graduates face an uphill climb as they build their careers. He emphasized that every step they take forward as creators is meaningful for past, present and future generations.
“There will come a time when you’ll feel like the only Brown writer in the room. Instead of it being daunting, think of it as an opportunity to be bold,” Valderrama urged. “The Latino revolution will come in the form of content. Immortalize what you want, the community deserves it. Make sure the leading roles in your stories look like you — this is a love letter to your parents and grandparents. Aim for excellence. Brown excellence.”

Wolverine/Logan Howlett x F!Latina!Reader - Shut Up!
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________ GIF IS NOT MINE AN: I used the internet for all Spanish words and phrases, so bear with any mistakes and correct me if needed. I wanted to make this a bit more authentic. Word Count: 1,634 Warnings: A bit of swearing in English and in Spanish (via translator), a tiny bit of spice in the end but nothing graphic Summary:  It was a mystery to most of your anger was part of your fiery mutation or your Latin-American upbringing. Either way you were force to recon with. Requested by @thefandomdiaries07 Requests are open                ______________________________________________________________ The Jet barely touched the ground, ramp just barely kissing the floor underneath as you jumped out of it. Face pulled into a snarl and Rogue who had impatiently waited for the return of you and your group stopped after she had taken one step in your direction. She knew you long enough to see when you were angry and when you were angry you were unapproachable. Many had first hand experience on it, Rogue included. It was a mystery to most of your anger was part of your fiery mutation or your Latin-American upbringing. Either way you were force to recon with. “What happened this time?” Rogue asked as you pushed passed her and you stopped dead in your tracks before swirling around, the fire literally burning in your eyes. “Ask this pinche estupido (fucking idiot).” With a finger she pointed to the Wolverine who just happened to exit the jet just as pissed as you seemed to be. “Don’t give me that look, firecracker!” he shouted at her as he got closer. Rogue didn’t need to hear any more as she pushed between them before the situation could escalate. She placed a gloved hand on each of their shoulders to stop them from getting closer. “How about we take a nice little walk (Y/N). I need to tell you what happened when you were gone.”
Letting go of Logan who was still very much angry Rogue shoved her friend to the exit looking over her shoulder to signal Logan to better not get to close to you for the next couple of hours.
You barely entered your room when you started to curse profanities in Spanish. Rogue might not understand what you were saying but whatever it was it was clear that every sailor would’ve blushed in shame at it. In concern Rogue watched on as you paced your room pulling off your gear and tossing it out of sight before pushing open your wardrobe to grab something more comfortable. “I just can’t believe that Canadian la concha de tu madre (motherfucker) had the audacity to get in my way and now he’s the angry. I told him to piss off.” Your accent laid heavy in your words and Rogue flinched a little when you closed your wardrobe loudly and made your way to your bathroom. “By god, (Y/N) what did Logan do exactly?” she asked through the door after you had made your way to the bathroom and locked it. From behind the door you were cursing up yet another storm under your breath before Rogue heard the water starting to run. “It was supposed to be a stealthy mission, dios mio (my god), and I told him I got it under control. Just a little distraction with fire, but no he had to run into the fight like the cabrón (bastard) he is and then blame me that he almost turned into fried…how would you say it? Ah yes, a fried chicken.” Rogue hold back a laughter knowing that if you would hear it would only add fuel to the literal fire. “It’s not like he wouldn’t recover from it in minutes.” A huff came out of your mouth. “Gracias, mi amiga. I told him the same, but no, he had nothing better to do than blow up in my face what a reckless idiot I was.” Rogue couldn’t help the smirk that crossed her lips. You and Logan always clashed together whenever you two were in the same room. It was more concerning these days if a second goes by without you two fighting. Both of you had a talent to rail the other up but in the end no one ever gets hurt and only little scorch marks were found in the mansion that were easily hidden by paintings or vases. In general you two worked great as a team, teased each other on good days but today the teasing seemed to have railed you both into a loop of insults and accusations once again. “It could help if you finally fuck each other’s brains out.” Rogue thought that her suggestion would fall on deaf ears when a sudden silence came from the bathroom. The water had stopped running and Rogue laid her hand on the doorknob concerned that something happened before the door was ripped open and you stood there a towel wrapped around yourself and (Y/H/C) hanging wet into your face with your eyes gleaming at your best friend. “What did you just say?” both of you stared at each other with wide eyes before Rogue started to grin widely. “Oh, you heard me (Y/N). And don’t even think about denying it. You’re literally eye fucking Logan whenever you fight.” “I believe, mi amiga, it’s time for you to leave.” Rogue still smirked as she wiggled her eyebrow at you laughing loudly as she ran out of the door before you could throw anything at her. - You haven’t left your room after Rogue had ran out. Her words still echoed in your mind and you desperately tried to get them out. It was just stupid girl talk, right? Just a teasing comment from one friend to the other to ruffle their feathers, right? With a groan you decided that now that probably most in the mansion had gone to sleep for the day since it had become night fall, it was time to get a little midnight snack before heading to bed. Still to loaded to even consider to go to sleep right away despite the tiring mission that laid behind you. So you tip toed silently into the kitchen concentrating on not to make any noise whatsoever, since Rogue had caught you one to many teams with a spoonful of ice cream in your mouth in the middle of the night. But it seemed you weren’t the only in the kitchen at this time of night. You stopped dead in your tracks. “Mierda.” Your cursed under your breath at the bent body that seemed to have caught onto your whisper. Said body raised to its full height and turned around and instantly you wanted to go back to your room at the sight of Logan before you. Instead of a teasing comment like usual he only raised an eyebrow at you with a bear in one hand. “Rogue won’t be too pleased to see you here.” Desperately you tried to not let your eyes wander  over his exposed chest and down to his way too low hanging sleep pants. Why in the world does he refuse to sleep in a shirt like any normal person would? Rogue’s comment for early didn’t help your mind from wandering around before you caught yourself and pushed passed him to roam around the fridge. “Rogue isn’t here now, is she?” you replied no glancing once at him. You heard him huff before he took a swig from his drink. Shaking your head you bent over to grab for the ice cream that Rogue probably tried to hide in a poor attempt. As you felt a pair of eyes on you, you stood back up with the ice cream in hand and closed the fridge, glaring at Logan. He took another swig of his beer to hide his smirk which still didn’t go unnoticed by you. “You enjoy standing in a dark kitchen watching girls bending over?” you could feel the fire of anger boil in you ready for another round of bickering between you and him. Logan placed the beer down onto a table before he took step forward, you on the other hand stayed still looking up at him. “I enjoy standing in a dark kitchen watching you bend over.” You blamed the boiling anger in your for the warmth that spread into your cheeks at his words. “No insults? I’m disappointed.” You didn’t stop him when Logan snaked an arm around you to pull your closer to his naked torso. “Are you now, princess?” his breath fanned over your face, your hands simultaneously balled into fists on his chest. “Yes, it’s the only redeeming quality of yours.” You retorted back smirking at your own comment while Logan pulled his face back a little an irritated look on his face. “Well then,” he came closer again his lips brushing over your neck, his beard scratching your pulse point. “Maybe I need to show you more of other ‘qualities’ as you so nicely put it.” Your hands wrapped around his neck as you pulled him impossibly closer. “¡Cállate! (Shut up)” You muttered onto his lips and you could feel how he titled his head to the side a little. “It means shut up.” you explained at his expression. “Why would I shut up if it gets such reactions out of you?” an annoyed sighed left you before you pushed yourself to loose all the distance between you two. As Logan had expected the kiss was fierce, passionate and hot. His arm that was wrapped around tightened, his unoccupied hand travelled to the back of your head to you closer to him. It was a bruising kiss neither of you wanted to submit to. And like a silent agreement you both pulled away from each other breath heavy from the lack of oxygen but still not letting go of the other. “Mierda, Rogue was right.” You mumbled over his lips as he brushed them over yours lightly and he hummed in question. “We do need to fuck each other’s brains out.” A low rumble escaped his chest and you too couldn’t help the smile forming on your lips. “Why don’t you grab your ice cream than and we’ll move this to your bedroom?” never in your life had you run up to your room in such a haste before.

Freddy x Spanish Speaking Reader
-> Swear words
Tumblr media
-> Summary: Headcanons, Reader's gender is not specified. This is nothing serious, just me messing with this burnt bacon man
-> Warnings / Triggers: Swear words
I'm too lazy now to put the translation to the words in Spanish, sorry
Please tell me if you find any mistake
• You don't t even have to suggest him, the first thing he asks when he knows that you speak spanish is to learn EVERY SINGLE swear word
• And when you tell him that fuck has more than 20 synonyms he just loses his mind
• Will make a list to make sure that he uses them all
• Somehow you tricked him into thinking that "Buen poto" means I love you
• But have you seen this man? How is he going to be mad at you if he had done the same if he could
• He just appears in your dream one day and declares that he appreciates that you like his butt and that your poto is pretty too
• Surprisingly, he puts effort in pronunciate them well. This doesn't mean that he accomplish it
• But, honestly, is kind of funny watching him pronouncing Joder (~Hother) as ~Yother
• Sometimes he tries to search in the internet to surprise you with another beautiful word
• It never ends up well
• "Hey, babes, what does 'LRCDTM' mean ??"
• "Oh, you know, Los Rápidos Caballos De Tamaulipas, México" you snort
• "No way in hell it means th- Wait, what is a Concha?? And why is it Re???"
• Also everytime you get angry and swear in Spanish he's just there taking out his little swears notebook as he writes down another one
• And you know how they say that us Spanish speaking people talk too fast? If you talk to him in spanish at full speed, doesn't even matter what you're saying, he'll try to write down what you say just to end up tearing off the sheet of paper and setting it on fire.

Fic post
Hey, who wants to read a really, really rough draft?
In the far future...
“I HATE YOU!”
Marinette winced as the front door slammed. This has been her third fight with Gina that week, and it was wearing the fashion designer down. This time, it had been about heading to the seaside with her friends for a weekend getaway.
Marinette had said no.
“But why not?” Gina had asked, a faint whine in her voice. They had been in the kitchen, cleaning up after dinner. With Emilie off at University and Adrien doing a press junket for his latest movie, it had been the two of them that night.
Marinette had been so excited. It was so rare that she got any quality time with her daughter, and with her oldest away and Gina getting ready to head out to University, she was starting to panic a bit.
Okay, a lot.
Marinette had envisioned all day of the two of them pigging out on pizza and watching terrible movies together. Maybe painting each other’s nails, gorging on ice cream… Pretty much everything Marinette knew would make her incredibly sick the next day. But, that didn’t matter. This was daughter time, and she honestly didn’t know how much more she’d have.
They had just eaten dinner and were getting ready to make disgustingly large sundaes when Chloé’s son, André had called. Marinette loved André. She was his godmother, after all. When he and Gina had started dating, she was taken aback, but happy. In her mind, Gina could do so, so much worse.
Still, this was mother-daughter time.
Her godson could go fuck himself.
And then, just to add fuel to the fire, Gina had perked up mid-conversation and turned to her mother with an excited look plastered on her face.
“OHMYGOD!” Gina said excitedly as she ended her call. “Mom! Aunt Chloé is letting us all use her villa this weekend! Are you cool if I go?”
Marinette blinked. “Wait, which villa?”
Gina grinned. “The one on La Concha beach. She’s covering everything! Travel, food, the works! Holy crap, this is… This is amazing!”
Marinette paled a little. “La Concha? As in where we vacation each year?”
Gina nodded. “Yeah! And she’s letting us use her beach villa! Aunt Sabrina says we can even use the fire pit!”
Marinette snapped.
“No.”
Gina nearly tripped in place. “Wait, what?”
“I said no,” Marinette sighed. “Gina, look. You’re responsible. I know you’re responsible. It’s just…”
“Mom,” Gina said, slightly annoyed. “Why not?”
Okay, now we’re partially caught up.
“I think you know why,” Marinette said, her voice slightly firm.
“Are you serious?” Gina sputtered. She adjusted her wire rimmed glasses and glared at her mother. “You let me go back in time, repeatedly I might add, but I can’t go to the beach with my friends? Many of which are miraculous holders?” She crossed her arms. “What the Hell, mom?”
“It’s not… Gina, look,” Marinette sighed. “It’s just… This weekend we promised your grandparents we’d take them up to visit with your sister, remember? They were looking forward to the road trip with us.”
“But,” Gina said, dismayed. “Mom, seriously? Just lend me Kaalki. I can pop right back. Boom. No problem.”
Gina,” Marinette said, her voice now firmer. “I… I said no. I’m just, I’m not comfortable with this, okay? Not this weekend.” She looked down. “Not there.”
Gina’s mouth opened and closed several times as her pale face turned slightly red. “You… You think I’m going to…”
“That’s not what this is about. And for the record, I know you’re going to,” Marinette said, pointedly. “And I don’t judge for that.”
“Really? Because it sure as Hell sounds like that’s exactly what you’re doing!”
Marinette glared at her daughter. “Don’t you raise your voice at me, young lady! I told you, I’m not…”
“You always do this,” Gina spoke over her. “You go on and on about how responsible I am, but then you treat me like I’m a toddler the second…”
“…Comfortable with this. We’ve already promised your grandparents and backing out on them would be nothing more than mean. They’ve been looking forward to…”
“…I try to go do something for myself. You don’t trust me to make any decisions that matter, and when I do, you tear me down! And it’s not fair!”
“…Spending time with both of you, and I honestly don’t know how many more opportunities like this we’re going to get! I need you to…”
“Just because you got knocked up there doesn’t mean I will!”
The silence in the kitchen was so thick you could have heard a pin drop.
Off to the side, Ziggy and Tikki were sitting on top of the microwave and eating some cookies. They both froze at the outburst.
“Well damn,” Ziggy muttered. “Now she’s gone and done it.”
Gina realized her mistake the second she spoke. Her eyes went wide as Marinette loomed in front of her.
“How dare you,” she hissed. “You do NOT get to judge me, young lady. Yes, I acted without thinking back then, but I do not regret it one bit, do you understand me? And I will not be shamed by my own child for my decisions.”
“I, dammit, look, I…” Gina started.
“Your ass is grounded,” Marinette snapped, cutting her off. “No villa, no vacation. You are going to come with us to visit your sister if I have to get my yoyo and tie you to the roof of the car, do you understand me?”
“Mom, I…”
“DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?” Marinette shouted.
Gina recoiled. She could count the number of times her mother had flat-out shouted at her on one hand.
“…Fine,” Gina said. She abruptly turned around and marched for the door. She snatched her keys and wallet from the counter as she stormed off.
“Where are you going?” Marinette yelled.
“Away from you,” Gina snapped back as she stormed away. “You never change. You’re never going to change. I’ve saved the city and your life more times than I can count and you still think I’m some immature fucking idiot!”
“Maybe it’s because right now, you’re acting like one!” Marinette yelled after her.
“I HATE YOU!”
SLAM!
…And now we’re completely caught up.
Marinette stood in the kitchen and stared at the door for a moment before she picked up a (thankfully plastic) cup from the counter and threw it against the refrigerator. Fuming, she stormed into the living room and collapsed on the sofa, hot tears forming in her eyes.
“Stupid, inconsiderate little…” Marinette mumbled. She grabbed a soft, navy blue blanket from the arm of the couch and wrapped up in it as she burrowed into the cushions.
***
There was a knock at the door.
Marinette popped up, her face puffy from crying. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been curled up on the couch, but she felt gross, and she had to use the restroom, so she figured she must have cried herself to sleep.
She half-stumbled, half-marched to the door and threw it open, fully expecting to see her daughter standing there, needing to be let back in.
Instead…
Marinette froze at the sight of a woman about her height huddled in a black peacoat. She had short, grey hair, and her wire-rimmed glasses were reflecting the light coming from the doorway.
Marinette mentally stumbled a bit, not expecting to see someone at her door at such a late hour. “Um, hello? Can I help you?”
The woman had her hands in her coat and looked like she was ready to fold in on herself. She stared at Marinette for a moment before asking in a familiar voice, “I’m… I apologize for bothering you at this hour, but may I speak with you? Please?”
Marinette was about to say no and shut the door. After all, it was late, she was home alone, and superhero or not, this was a stranger and Marinette didn’t feel like putting herself in a bad situation. But as she looked at the woman, she felt there was something intensely familiar about her.
“…Sure,” Marinette said, despite her better judgement. She stepped back as the woman came inside. Marinette looked her over now that she was in better lighting. The mystery woman had green eyes behind her glasses, and her face, slightly wrinkled, was peppered with faint freckles.
Marinette stared.
The woman stared back.
“I, I’m sorry,” the woman said, her voice hitching. She turned back towards the door. “This was a mistake. I didn’t mean to disturb you, I just…”
Marinette reached out and gently put her hand on the woman’s arm. The woman stopped and turned to face her again.
Marinette stared closer.
“…Gina?”
The older woman’s face crumpled. Marinette pulled her close as Gina nearly fell into her arms, her entire body trembling with sobs. Marinette wasn’t sure what was happening, but she held her close and rubbed her back.
“Hey,” Marinette said in her best soothing voice. “It’s okay. It’s okay, sweetie.”
Internally, Marinette was panicking. ‘Did she get attacked by an akuma? Is this some weird side-effect from time travel? What the Hell happened to my baby?!’ She frantically thought.
Gina eventually pulled back and wiped her face with her hand. “I’m so sorry for that,” she said between sniffs. “It’s been such a long day and, and I just wanted to see you. That’s all.”
Marinette still had her hand on Gina’s arm. “Would you like something to drink? Cocoa? Coffee?” She looked at Gina and noted her age. “Whiskey?”
Gina snickered as she sniffed back more tears. “Some of your cocoa would be wonderful.”
Marinette led her to the couch and made sure she was seated before she dashed to the kitchen and frantically whipped up some of her homemade cocoa. In two minutes, she was back at her older daughter’s side with a loaded, steaming cup in her hands.
“Here,” Marinette said as she handed Gina the cup.
Gina smiled and nodded to her mother. “Thank you so much,” she said. She took a small sip with her eyes closed. “This is good,” she murmured.
Her face looked clenched.
“This tastes just like I remember,” she whispered. Her hands started to tremble. Marinette was afraid she was going to have to catch the cup, but Gina thankfully set it down on the oak coffee table in front of them.
They sat together in silence for a moment. Marinette, still not 100% sure what was going on, waited for Gina to speak first.
Gina took a trembling breath.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Marinette stared, confused. “What do you mean?”
Gina kept her eyes on her hands, which were clenched together in her lap. “I shouldn’t tell you things that involve time. Aunt Alix always stressed that it was the fastest way to ruin things, but… I’m sorry I ruined our girl’s night, tonight.”
Marinette blinked. “What? Gina, what’s going on?” A small ball of fear was starting to grow in her stomach. “Why are you telling me this? Now?”
Gina shuddered. “This was the last time you and I ever tried to do this while I was home,” she said in a tiny voice. “I left for school in the Fall. I didn’t even think about it until today, but… This was our last girl’s night while I was still home with you, and I ruined it.”
“Hey,” Marinette said in a quiet voice. She reached out and took the older woman’s hands in her own. “Sweetie, it’s okay.”
Gina shook her head. “No, it’s not! You, you were just being a mom and I was a complete bitch to you! I’m so sorry!”
Gina was openly crying now as Marinette scooted closer and put her arm around Gina’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry I snuck out when I was 15 to go to a party at Tulip’s!” Gina sobbed into Marinette’s shoulder. “I’m sorry I broke your favorite vase! I’m, I’m sorry I filmed you the day you found out about Emilie! I’m sorry I failed my second semester! I’m so sorry!” She clung to Marinette. “I love you so much, and I’m so sorry!”
Gina was openly crying now against Marinette. “Gina,” Marinette said, her tone a mixture of concern and comfort. “Baby, what… You’re okay. It’s okay. I promise. I… What is this about?”
Gina clung to her mother a little bit longer.
“I just… I wanted to tell you. You’re a good mom. You’re the best mom and I love you. I love you with all my heart,” Gina said. She took a long, shaky breath. “I just… I really needed to tell you that.” She pulled back to look in Marinette’s eyes. “Everything I am is because of you. I am so, so proud to be your daughter.”
Marinette felt herself tearing up. “Oh, sweetie. I… Thank you so much.” She sniffed. “I won’t lie; I think I needed to hear that tonight.”
Gina let out a small laugh. “I know. I made a mess of things for you tonight. I just…” Gina sighed and scooted back as she composed herself. “Today was just really hard.”
Marinette looked at her daughter. As much as she didn’t want to, she felt the problem-solving side of her brain start to kick in.
Gina was dressed in a black skirt with black hose, a white blouse, and a black sweater. She was still bundled in her coat. Her eyes looked red, and she appeared to be exhausted.
And she was older. Marinette found it difficult to peg her, as the women in her family aged well. Still, she figured Gina had to be in her 60’s.
Marinette put her hand to her mouth. She closed her eyes as she put the dots together.
“Oh God,” she whispered. She composed herself and took Gina’s hands in her own.
“Listen to me,” Marinette said. She did her best to keep her voice level, as she felt her emotions threatening to rip her apart. “I love you and I am proud of you. Nothing will ever change that. Ever. You don’t have to apologize for tonight.”
“But,” Gina said, her voice catching again. “But this was…”
“No, it’s not.” Marinette said in a firm voice. “Sorry, sweetie. I’m changing the timeline. Let the time guardian yell at me for it. I’ll take it.”
Gina shot her a small smile. “I think she’ll let this one slide.”
Marinette continued. “I… I don’t know if it matters at this point in your life, but… Gina, I forgive you for everything, and I am sorry if I ever let you down.” She looked at her daughter. “Do… Are things good where you’re from? Do you have family?”
Gina nodded. “Yeah. Things are… We’re all really great. We both have families, and we’re both loved, and you did such a good job with both of us. We love you so much, and your grandkids love you, too. We all love you.” Gina snickered a bit. “Even Chloé.”
Marinette raised an eyebrow at that. “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard you not call her Aunt Chloé.”
Gina shrugged. “I haven’t called her that since the wedding.”
Marinette’s eyes went wide. Gina quickly realized her slip-up and tried to backpaddle. “I mean, since, um, I just… I’m an old lady. I don’t call people aunt anymore.”
“You called Alix your aunt just s few minutes ago,” Marinette pointed out. “And you’re not that old.”
Gina’s face fell. “Shit, you’re right. I… Please forget I said that.”
Marinette shook her head. “Not happening. Hey,” she said. She reached out and cupped Gina’s cheek with her hand. “Can you do me a favor tonight?”
Gina nodded. “Sure. Anything.”
“I want you to go home and hug your family. I want you to tell your kids… Kids?”
Gina nodded. “Kids.”
Marinette grinned. “I want you to tell your kids that their Gramma loved them so, so much. I want you to remember that every day. And tell Emmy she’s loved, too. Tell her you two were my entire world.” She looked Gina in the eyes. “Can you do that for me, dear?”
Gina sniffed and nodded. “I can… Yeah. I can do that.” She looked Marinette in the eyes. “You were always the smartest person I knew. I knew coming back here was a mistake, but… I think I just needed to tell you that. All of that. I hope that was okay.”
Marinette scooted forward and kissed Gina on the forehead. “Of course it was. I love you, sweetheart.” She pulled back. “By the way, where did you run off to?” She eyed her daughter. “Are you with André?”
Gina shook her head. “No, I, um, I think I’m at Saint-Jacques Tower. I figured no one would look for me there.”
Marinette squeezed her leg. “Thanks. Now, as your mother, I’m going to ask something of you.”
Gina steadied herself. “Sure. What?”
“Go home,” Marinette said. “Go and get some rest. You look like you’ve had an awful day, but… You’re very loved, and you always have been.”
“But, there’s so much I still need to tell you,” Gina begged. “There’s so much left to do! I need to, to say… I don’t… I don’t know where to begin. I…” She looked to her mother with pleading eyes.
“You don’t have to,” Marinette said quietly. “I know. I promise you, I know.”
Gina closed her eyes and nodded.
“I know,” Gina said back. I just… This was harder than I thought it would be.”
“Hey,” Marinette said as she had an idea. “Lay down for me, okay?”
Marinette grabbed a throw pillow and set it next to her. She gently guided Gina down to it and scooted to give her daughter room to rest her head. She then grabbed the blanket she had been wrapped in and spread it over the older woman’s frame.
Gina snuggled into her mother’s side and pulled the blanket close. In the familiar, dim quiet of the living room, Marinette started softly singing a lullaby. It was a simple song that she and Adrien had begun singing to their girls when they were babies. It was their own sweet, silly family tune. Just for them. It was the same one Gina had sung to her children, and then to her grandchildren.
And that night, cuddled against her mother, Gina had it sung to her one last time.
Marinette held her daughter until she felt the telltale deep, rhythmic breathing that came with sleep. She then gently got up and kissed Gina on the forehead before quietly slipping out of the room.
***
Gina sat huddled atop the ancient, jutting structure that was Saint-Jacques Tower and pulled her black coat close to her frame. She had been rotating between yelling at someone who wasn’t there, pouting, feeling bad for herself, and eating a burrito.
She was on her second burrito at this point.
“Hey,” a voice said from behind her.
Gina jumped a bit and turned to see her mother, transformed, standing behind her.
Gina sniffed and looked back out over the city. She brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them.
“What do you want?” Gina asked in a tired voice.
Marinette sat down beside her daughter and looked out over the city with her for a moment.
“Did I ever tell you about the day I died?” Marinette asked.
Gina glanced at her mother for a moment.
Marinette let out a small sigh. “I was so happy that morning. Adrien was officially mine, we were spending the day with his father,” Marinette frowned slightly. “Granted, we didn’t know his father was a monster at that point, but still. Everything was so wonderful, and bright, and I even got to see you! And then…”
Marinette swallowed.
“I didn’t even feel a lot of pain. It happened so fast. The roof just slammed into me. It was like a cold shock, and then… I guess the best way to put it was I felt like I was underwater. There was this haze, and there were all these people around me, mostly women. They were all calling to me, telling me I was welcome to rest with them. They were all dressed differently, but they were all in red…”
Marinette let her words drift on the wind as Gina looked to her.
“Were they Ladybugs?” Gina asked.
“I think so,” Marinette mused. “They all had this sad look on their faces, like this wasn’t how they’d expected things to go, but they were smiling, and… And I wanted to go with them. There was a light behind them, and it was so warm, but… But all I could think about was you, and Adrien, and mama and papa… I just stood there, not sure what to do.”
“What happened then?” Gina asked.
Marinette looked to her and smiled. “And then I saw you. You had a transformation I’d never seen before. You took me by the hand and said you wanted your family back, and the next thing I knew, I was fine.”
They sat together for a moment as Marinette’s words sunk in.
“I’ve faced death so many times,” Marinette said. “But that was one of the worst. I was so scared afterwards when I realized what had happened.” She shuddered. “I… My not wanting you to go has nothing to do with you and André. He’s great, and I love both of you, and I really do trust you, I just…”
Marinette swallowed.
“I just keep thinking about you going there, and the same thing happening to you. I know it’s stupid and I know you’ll be okay, but I just can’t shake the fear. I just…” Marinette shuddered and hugged herself. “I can’t lose you. I know I won’t. Like, I seriously know I won’t, but whenever I think about it, I just lock up. I’m sorry. I know that’s not fair to you, but…”
She was stopped by Gina hugging her.
“I’m sorry,” Gina said.
Marinette felt relief wash over her. She hugged Gina back.
“Me too,” she said.
They stayed like that for a moment.
“Listen,” Marinette said after a bit. “This weekend is a no. I really do need you to come with us, mainly for Gramma and Grandpa. I think… I think you’ll regret any lost time, someday. Also, I love you so much,” Marinette leaned back. “But you were acting like a total bitch.”
Gina tensed, but then deflated as she gave a nod. “Okay,” she said. “I get it. I… I should have just talked to you about this. Sorry.”
Marinette pulled her daughter back into a hug kissed the side of Gina’s head. “Still, this gives me an idea.”
She let Gina go and opened her yoyo. Humming, she scrolled through the contacts and clicked on the fourth one down. She held the yoyo out and put it to speaker as the line almost instantly picked up.
“I’m here. What’s the situation?” Gina heard the stern, confident voice of her Aunt Chloé on the line.
“Nothing major,” Marinette said. “Hey, are you booking a trip for the kids this weekend? Something about the beach?”
There was a sigh of relief. “Christ, Dupain-Cheng. You called me from your yoyo over that? I thought there was an akuma! Ugh! Yes, I’m putting together something. I figured the class would like a senior trip, and mom agreed it was a good idea. Why?”
“Wellllll,” Marinette said. She smiled at Gina. “Gina can’t go this weekend. We already have a family commitment, and I promised mom and dad we’d all be involved.”
“…Well shit,” Chloé muttered.
“So, would you be up for coordinating something special with me? Maybe, I don’t know, something along the lines of Brisbane?”
There was a notable pause.
“…Are you fucking with me?”
Gina snorted.
“Look, Adrien inherited a condo-slash-secret lair down there and it’s honestly huge. We rent it out as an Air B&B for side cash, but it’s free next weekend.”
“I, huh. That’s… Okay, like that sounds awesome, but there’s no way I’m giving the kids a cooler vacation that I would take.”
“Then we all go together,” Marinette suggested. “The lair is huge. Like, ridiculously huge. There’s more than enough room.”
“That’s a lot of plane tickets,” Chloé grumbled. “Like, yay for being rich, but seriously. That’s a lot of plane tickets.”
“No it’s not,” Marinette hummed.
“Seriously!” Chloé snapped. “There’s sixteen kids in their class, plus parents, that’s…”
“Chloé,” Marinette interrupted. “We have a teleporter.”
“…Oh, fuck yes.”
“So, next week?” Marinette asked in her upbeat, business voice.
“Um, yeah. Next week. I… This is pretty awesome of you, Du… Marinette. Um, hey. You wanna get lunch this week? I was… IT’S JUST LUNCH, SABRINA! CHRIST!”
Marinette covered her mouth as Gina buried her face in her mother’s side and howled with laughter.
“I’d love to. Thanks, Chloé! See you on patrol.”
“Yeah, yeah. See you.” The call cut off.
Marinette looked to Gina. “There. One class trip, and this way? Everyone’s fears are assuaged.”
“It’s not really a class trip if your parents are right there, but, um, wow. Okay, I shouldn’t complain. This is awesome. Thank you.”
Marinette nodded. “I know, and you’re welcome. Oh, and don’t worry. The lair? It’s a haunted hotel. That’s why it’s so big. I’m sure you kids will have more than enough room to hang out without us hovering.”
“Awesome,” Gina grinned. “Wait. Haunted? Like, for real?”
Marinette tossed her yoyo and gave it a tug. “Race you home!”
“Wait. Mom, for real? Richter is terrified of ghosts! Mom! Hey!”
Marinette was already gone.
***
When they finally finished their patrol (which was actually just a game of tag), both mother and daughter returned to their empty home. Gina yawned and excused herself to go take a shower as Marinette drifted into the living room.
She sat on the large couch in the center of the room and put her hand on the neatly folded blanket that was resting beside her.
She wondered about her daughter, and if she would be okay that night. She hoped she would be.
She thought about what the older version of her little girl had said, the look on her face, and the tone of her voice.
Marinette slid her phone out. It was extremely late, so calling was out of the question. Instead, she sent off a quick text.
‘Hey. Just wanted to let you know that I love you so much. You’re the best mom anyone could ever ask for, and I feel so lucky to have you in my life. Would you like to get breakfast?’
A moment later, as soon as Marinette stood up to head to bed, her phone buzzed. She looked down to see a message.
‘I love you, too. With all my heart. I’d love to, dear. Come by around 7.’
Marinette smiled as she headed up to bed.
In the morning, she was going to hug her daughter. And she was going to hug her mother. And she didn’t plan on letting either of them go.
