You hit a nice step-back three right in her face, and Jaylin smiled, holding her hands up.

“Okayyy, I see you,” she said, tapping your waist lightly. “We got a shooter on our hands.”

You laughed, brushing it off, not noticing the way Paige paused mid-dribble on the other side of the court.

She blinked. Once. Twice.

“Yo Nika,” she said slowly, still watching Jaylin, “Switch with me real quick.”

“Why?”

“I’ma guard Y/N.”

“But I’m—”

“Nika.”

“…Got it.”

You raised an eyebrow as Paige jogged over, sliding in front of you with that calm-but-lowkey-murderous expression she gets when she’s annoyed.

“Hi babe,” you grinned, dribbling toward her.

“Hey pretty,” she said, stealing the ball clean. “You flirtin’ today or just hoopin’?”

You snorted. “What?”

"Eh... too much work," he groans when you first challenge him. You promise snack if he plays, and now suddenly he's 7 feet of grumpy motivation. "Only 'cause you said there's gummies after." "Are you even trying?" he mumbles, standing completely still as you huff and puff past him like a lost puppy. He doesn't even chase you. He just holds the ball over your head like a toddler with candy. You jump. he yawns. "So sloooow~" Eventually, he just scoops you up, grabs the ball, and walks both of you to the hoop. "Atsushi! You can't dunk me—" "Mm. Too late." He gently deposits you into the net like laundry and then turns to you with the most deadpan voice: "I win. Feed me." You ask for a rematch. He lays flat on the floor and says, "Nope. I'm retired."

The minute you say "1v1 me," he visibly frowns. "This is a waste of time. You'll hurt yourself." You ignore him. You're full of passion. He's full of regret. The energy in New York was electric. UConn fans packed the stands, the crowd roaring with every bucket, every steal, every defensive stand. It was one of our biggest games of the season, made even more special by a familiar face in the crowd.

Nika Mühl, now playing for the Seattle Storm, had flown in to watch her former team and support her friends. She stood out in the crowd, her confident grin unmistakable as she waved to the team during warmups.

I hadn’t spoken to Nika much since her graduation, but we’d shared a few classes and a quiet friendship. Nothing dramatic, just mutual respect and the occasional inside joke. Seeing her again was a surprise, especially since she made it a point to hug me tightly after the game ended, right in front of Paige.

During the Game

The game was intense. St. John came ready to fight, and every possession felt like a battle. Paige was locked in, her usual calm focus giving way to a fierceness that made it clear she wasn’t here to lose.

Late in the third quarter, Paige went for a backdoor cut, receiving a pass from Azzi. She pivoted toward the basket for a layup, but one of John’s defenders swatted the ball mid-air. Paige, off-balance, stumbled toward the sidelines—straight into me and the cheerleaders.

“Whoa!” I yelped, stepping back as Paige tried to regain her footing. But in the chaos, her elbow accidentally connected with my chest.

“Shit!” Paige exclaimed, immediately turning to me. “Y/N, are you okay? I didn’t mean to—”

“I’m fine,” I assured her, clutching my chest. It stung, but nothing was broken.

She searched my face, clearly worried, before the ref blew the whistle for her free throws. “I’ll check on you after, I promise.”

And just like that, she was back on the court, sinking both free throws like nothing had happened.

The Huskies secured another victory, with Paige leading the charge as usual. As the team celebrated on the court, Nika made her way down to the sidelines. I was packing up my camera gear when she pulled me into a hug.

“It’s good to see you again, Y/N,” she said, her Croatian accent soft but familiar.

“You too,” I replied, smiling.

She released me and turned to hug Paige, who looked between us with a raised eyebrow.

“You two know each other?” Paige asked, her tone laced with curiosity.

Nika smirked. “We had a couple of classes together. Y/N’s good people.”

Paige nodded slowly, clearly filing that information away.

Later that night, Nika pulled Paige and me aside at Paige and Kk's shared dorm. She didn’t mince words.

“Look, I’ve been hearing things,” Nika started, crossing her arms. “You two are like magnets—always drawn to each other, but sometimes you’re more chaos than chemistry. It’s time to sort it out.”

Paige frowned. “We’re fine, Nika.”

“No, you’re not,” Nika shot back. “The team feels the tension. The media’s picking up on it. You’re lucky it hasn’t blown up completely yet, but it will if you don’t figure out how to handle this better.”

I glanced at Paige, feeling both defensive and guilty. Nika was right.

“Okay,” I said quietly. “What do you suggest?”

The next morning, Nika dragged us to the practice gym for a trust exercise.

“You’re going to take turns catching each other while blindfolded,” she announced.

“What?” Paige and I said in unison.

Nika smirked. “Trust is built on vulnerability. Now, get to it.”

Reluctantly, I let Paige go first. I stood behind her as she put on the blindfold, her arms outstretched.

“Ready?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

I counted to three and let her fall backward. My heart raced as she tipped toward me, but I caught her easily.

“See? That wasn’t so bad,” I said, relieved.

“My turn,” Paige replied, grinning.

Paige’s POV

I couldn’t help but laugh when Y/N hesitated. “Come on, you can trust me. I swear,” I teased.

She sighed dramatically. ��Fine.”

I positioned myself behind her, watching as she nervously adjusted the blindfold.

“Three… two… one,” I counted, and she let herself fall.

Catching her felt like second nature. When I steadied her back on her feet, she pulled off the blindfold and gave me a small smile.

“Thanks,” she murmured.

“Always,” I replied.

After that evening and more trust exercises we found solid ground with each other. But during an away game the media team was relentless after our win in winscon. During the post-game interview, they turned their attention to Y/N, who had been filming on the sidelines.

“Y/N, can we get a comment about the video of you and Paige kissing in the rain?” one reporter asked, shoving a mic toward her.

Before Y/N could respond, Jana stepped in. “This is a post-game interview about basketball, not personal lives. Next question.”

Azzi chimed in, “Yeah, we just won a tough game. Let’s focus on that.”

Azzi and Jana flanked Y/N protectively, effectively shutting down the media frenzy.

That night, back in the dorm, I pulled Y/N aside.

“Are you okay?” I asked, resting a hand on her shoulder.

She nodded. “Thanks to them,” she said, gesturing to the team.

“You know I would’ve done the same,” I said softly.

“I know,” she replied, her eyes meeting mine. “And I appreciate it. I really do.”

In that moment, I realized Nika was right—we still had work to do. But as I took Y/N’s hand and felt her squeeze mine back, I knew we were on the right track.

it was a (temporarily) sunny afternoon at the basketball arena , where heeseung , the star player of his college basketball team was getting ready for an important home game. he couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness , knowing that his partner (m/n)would be in the stands cheering him on.

heeseung stood in front of the mirror , adjusting his red basketball jersey and giving himself a pep talk.

as he made his way to the court , heeseung looked for (m/n) in the stands , he started to sweat before the game even started, he was excited and nervous at the same time.

the moment (m/n) arrived at the arena , his eyes scanned the court to find heeseung's jersey number. when he spotted him , his heart skipped a beat. he couldn't help but admire how handsome his boyfriend looked in his #11 red jersey.. <3

the crowd erupted in cheers , and (M/N) couldn't help but join in , his voice blending with the loud screams of excitement. the screams rumbled the stadium and heeseung could feel his ego building up with each scream.

Heeseung stole glances at (m/n) whenever he had a chance , flashing them a cheeky grin or blowing him a playful kiss. his presence gave him an extra boost of energy and a firey determination to win the game.

during a timeout , heeseung caught sight of (m/n) in the stands. he raised his hand and formed a heart shape with his fingers , mouthing an "I love you" to him. (m/n) blushed and blew a flying kiss back , sending a surge of warmth through heeseung's veins.

as the game reached its climax , heeseung's team was neck and neck with their opponents. with a few seconds left on the clock and the score tied, heeseung found himself with the ball.

after running down the court and dodging any attempt of the ball being stolen, he launched the ball through the air, and time seemed to stand still as it swished through the net , sealing the victory for his team. the crowd erupted into a frenzy , and heeseung turned to (m/n) , his face beaming with delight.

they waved at each other excitedly , giving each other eye catching toothy grins. heeseung couldn't wait for this game to be over so he could take his boyfriend in his arms.

as the crowd began exiting the gym , (m/n) waited on a bench outside for heeseung's team to exit. after a few minutes of waiting , the crowd had cleared out the gym , and it started to pour , luckily (m/n) was under the roof.

heeseung's team soon made it out of the building and heeseung was the first one out of the building, he spotted (m/n) waiting for him and ran up to him, they both hugged and heeseung shoved his head in the crook of (m/n)'s neck. "you won!" (m/n) exclaimed "of course i did , i won because you were there.." heeseung said , getting all sappy.

(m/n) giggled, continuing to hug heeseung. heeseung's team was teasing hee , whistling at him and (m/n). heeseung got flustered and sat on the bench with (m/n).

heeseung's team notified him they were leaving and left heeseung and (m/n) to their lonesome. "you know, (m/n).." heeseung started , (m/n) perked up. i couldn't have done it without you cheering me on your presence just.. gives me the power to win all my games." (m/n) blushed and leaned into heeseung's embrace , taking heeseung's hand into his.

"oh, please.. you were already amazing before i came along , but i have to admit, my cheers do have some secret magical effect on your game." (m/n) said , heeseung giggling. "but really (m/n).. i'm the luckiest guy to have you as my boyfriend.. i wouldn't play for anyone else.." heeseung said.

I’ve been working on a basketball au with the drivers for a while but haven’t been able to work on it until now..ish 🥲 and so i did silly little graphics for now. Combining two of my favorite sports = favorite pasttime!

IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN LEARNING THE POSITIONS HERE ARE SOME QUICK EXPLANATIONS OF THEM 🙏:

Point Guard (PG): is typically the team's shortest player and best ball handler and passer. A scoring point guard regularly has the ability to shoot from three-point or mid-range distance. A facilitator-type point guard often has a high basketball IQ, or intuitive understanding of the game, and can see plays happening before they occur.

Shooting Guard (SG): are prolific from three-point range and long mid-range. A key aspect is having the ability to patiently wait for the ball and getting free, while others pass the ball around and finally get the ball to make the shot.

Small Forward (SF): They can do just about everything, from scoring, rebounding, handling the ball, passing, and the ability to defend. A common thread among small forwards is an ability to "get to the line" and draw fouls by aggressively attempting (posting-up) plays, layups, or slam dunks.

Power Forward (PF): often the team's most powerful and dependable scorer, being able to score close to the basket while also being able to shoot mid-range jump shots. Power forwards are also very crafty and have to be versatile on both offense and defense and are usually have good footwork in the paint and are able to force players into bad shots or blocking shots when guarding the paint.

Center (C): typically plays near the baseline or close to the basket. They are usually the tallest players on the floor. Centers usually score "down low", or "in the paint" (near the basket, in the key). The goal of centers is to create possessions, and, therefore, opportunities to score, by rebounding and trying to stop the other team from scoring in the paint.

Rookie (R): fresh off the bench and now a permanent part to the starting lineup.

In this Au, I combined the “junior” teams with their respective top teams (except for HAAS in this they merged with Alpine cause let’s be honest… Alpine need the extra help to actual stay an organization so HAAS agreed to merge).
