Hi all, long time no see, it's been a minute since I have posted, so I wanted to make a little update. I have a new posting schedule for 2024, I will be posting here every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday with a little update of my art for the week, and new youtube videos will be released on the first and third Fridays of each month! Here is what I worked on this week. I have been challenging myself to paint more portraits using unique references. I want to conquer “same face syndrome" this year so I have been working on these little study sheets. On another note, I have been absolutely loving working on these red backgrounds.

A little while back @hyunjukim82 and I were fortunate to spend a week learning to paint in the wonderful Sydney studio of @pamelagriffith. Although I'd experimented with acrylic in Serbia in 2019 this was the first time to really be shown how to use the medium. Pamela Griffith generously shared her decades long experience working with @derivanmatisse paints and mediums. It was an eye opening experience, and one that made me aware of how flexible [and fun] paint can be.⁠ ⁠ Huge thanks to Pamela for sharing her knowledge, Steven Patterson from Derivan for generously supplying their paints, and to Pamela and Ross for making us both feel so welcome in their home. Yup, oils are harder to photograph for sure... any tips or tricks? 😂 Of course one of the first things I try to paint is a pigeon. Pigeons are lovely. And incredibly pretty birds, when you look beyond their reputation. First layer done, currently drying.

You can use whatever supplies you have at home, but here are the supplies that I will be using: I will use a basic double primary palette of colours. i.e. a warm and cool version of each primary, plus burnt umber and white. Of course if you have different colours you can work with these too as long as you have 3 primaries + white as a minimum. • lemon yellow + cadmium yellow • cyan/cerulean blue + ultramarine blue • magenta + cadmium red • Burnt umber • White Other things you will need: • a canvas/board approximately 30x40cm (16" x 12" in) • a water pot • some paper towel. • some kind of flat palette to mix on. •brushes - whatever you have (but preferably at least a couple of synthetic flat brushes including a 1" and a 1/2" size approximately.) (You can also come just to watch and paint later!)
