Also been playing Volcano Princess on steam since it came out last week and am now the proud father of a young girl named Asteria who wants to become a Knight, admires one of the three Lords, the female Knight Lebsa, and upon hearing that the price for defeating the evil dragon is the princess's hand in marriage she just asked "If I defeat the dragon does that mean I can marry the princess too???"

UHHH. THIS MIGHT GET A BIT LONG SO BEAR WITH ME

We went to celebrate the lords returning from their quest to kill the Owl Princess (some kind of demon that's been in the forest, I didn't pay attention!! i didn't think the plot mattered!!!). Even though they didn't actually manage to kill the Princess, they did injure her, and that's reason enough for Lebsa to celebrate.

Except during her speech, she started... behaving erratically?? Stammering, repeating LEMIME'S name, saying 'it's so dark,' crying... and then acting like nothing was wrong. And to top it off, Lemime started crying too, seemingly for no reason.

This might not be related, but I also saw a scene (that I didn't get pics of, sorry) of Lebsa taking Lemime out for lunch and telling her about a crazy dream she had where Lemime TRIED TO KILL HER???

This plot is kind of getting wild, I regret not paying more attention until now!! I'll watch more closely when I do a second run

Moroccan weddings are AMAZING and traditions can vary from one city to another. Obviously we are in the diaspora so we can't really do it like at home for many reasons but we try to make the best of the situation.

well couples go through a wedding preparation time with the Imam for quite a while before the wedding. Then there's Drib Sdak first which is when the couple sign the wedding papers in the presence of someone called "adoul" which is basically a moroccan notary. Since we're in the diaspora it's a bit more complicated as we have to go through the embassy but all good.

After they are officially married, before the official celebrations there's a moment where we all bring gifts to their house, and it basically becomes a party. It's so fun I swear.

the first day it's the Hammam. It's a moment of purification for the bride (she prepare herself etc). Historically in morocco this was done in public bath houses and it was a beautiful moment for all women. Here we rent a spa place basically. It's very beautiful to see her getting love, as I see with catholic weddings for instance there's not the same type support for the bride, not anymore at least. There's a woman in particular who helps the bride through the days before the actual celebration days, we call her "negafa", she is charge of dresses, hair, anything really. Emotional support too!

The day before, we did ~henna party. All women from the family + friends gather together to get henna and wallah my cousin's wife was mesmerising, she's such a sweet girl too I love her. The bride wears a green and golden caftan in this occasion, for good luck. (caftans are moroccan traditional clothes if you don't know, and here she wears it with mdama, a belt) It's a beautiful moment and the one I love the most! Music, laughters, food. And I get to have the prettiest henna on my hands!

And then we had the official celebration! The bride arrives on a amaria which is a rooted platform sort of thing, carried by a group of men. YOU REALLY SHOULD SEE THE BRIDE. SO BEAUTIFUL. She wears a white takchita, a beautiful, complex dress made of different pieces. The caftan is one piece, while takchita has a part called tahtiya, which is like a caftan, and an one part above it that is called fouqia. Though when (if) I get married I want to wear lebsa lfasiya which is traditional of the region my parents were from (just google it it's STUNNING); bridal styles vary on the region really. The brides change into different takchitas throughout the night and it's one more stunning than the other. I also got a new pretty one so I was over the moon and I still am because I'm still staring at it loool. And yeah that's all, music, loooooots of dancing, lots of food. So much fun and it's lovely to feel at home, it's hard to put into words!

1. Cupcake

Rose grew the wheat herself, in the field by the lake where she and Papa used to play. After the harvest, Uncle Basil helped her mill it into flour. Mona let her borrow the other ingredients she needed.

In the end, the cupcake was slightly misshapen and clumsily decorated. But when she presented it to her father, he looked as happy as could be.

“Happy birthday, Papa!”

2. Discovery

When Rose was small, she dreamed of becoming an explorer. She would venture into the forest and find vast treasures and great adventure, she was sure of it.

At age 12, she discovered that reality was far less romantic. She thought she could be brave, just like Lebsa - but alone in the dark, all she could feel was fear.

3. Essence

“There’s something special about you, Rose,” Nina told her. “I can feel it.”

Rose smiled, always happy to be complimented by a friend. “Aww, thanks! You’re special too, Nina.”

Nina looked at her sadly, but Rose couldn’t understand why. What was she missing?

4. Luminary

Rose always gave it her all when it came to her studies. Papa had raised her that way - teaching through his own example, showing her day after day that persistence and hard work would be rewarded. If she didn’t understand something the first time, it just meant she would need to look at it again and figure out what was going wrong.

And so she kept working. In the Science classes which came naturally to her and in the Literature classes which frustrated her, she never ceased her efforts.

“You’re such a smart girl, Rose,” her Papa once said after seeing her course evaluation. “You’re an inspiration to me.”

She giggled. “But you’re my inspiration, Papa…!”

5. Pajamas

As the Winter year drew closer, the nights became colder and colder. The nightgown she typically wore to bed was proving to be far too thin - so Rose climbed up into the attic, seeking to find her old woolen pajamas.

It was only after she removed them from the chest that she realized how foolish of an idea this was. It had been over three years since the last time she needed these clothes - she had grown up since then, and could no longer fit.

For a moment, she felt melancholic. But she willed herself into cheer: this meant she could donate her old clothes and buy something new from Rebecca. This change didn't have to be sad.

6. Ambivalence

“What are you going to do after graduation, young lady?”

Rose hoped that the discomfort she felt wasn’t showing on her face. Really, it wasn’t Mary’s fault for asking the question. It was a perfectly reasonable one. It was just…

She wanted so many things, and yet she didn’t want any of them strongly enough. She felt like it was all happening too soon - was it really time for her to decide her future?

“I’m still figuring that out,” is how she decided to answer. If Mary picked up on any discord, she was nice enough not to comment on it.

“Well, I’ll always have a job for you at the bath house~!”

7. Cushion

After an exhausting day, Rose could only truly relax once she had retreated to the comfort of her bed. With Craig's fluffy pillow underneath her and Papa’s pumpkin quilt surrounding her, all of her troubles seemed to disappear.

8. Reflection

“Why are you staring, Papa?”

“I’m sorry, Rose, it’s just… you look more and more like your mother, each passing day.”

9. Sunrise

Rose thought the world was at its most beautiful in the early morning. The chirping of the birds meant that the eerie silence of night was no longer - their song signaled that a new day had begun. And with it, endless possibilities.

She could paint a portrait, she could perform in a play, she could race her horse - she could do anything she pleased. She had her whole day ahead of her.

10. Lucky

Rose stored her most precious belongings on a bookshelf near her bed. The number of mementos seemed to grow exponentially - what was at first a collection of gifts from her Papa now featured items from all of her friends.

As she placed the Bishop’s wooden statues among her possessions, she realized that she was starting to run out of space.

How lucky she was, to have that problem.

So this was actually kind of a tough choice, I mean... nevermind that I went back for both anyway. But I'm considering Asha's "canon" end that she became a Painter and married Benson, the painter. Honestly it just felt the cutest, but ironically for all the art classes and a pretty hefty amount of time spent painting by the lake to keep her extremely balanced stats even, she never actually completed a whole lot of paintings. There's actually a few achievements for total painting count in one run, and she didn't break into either of them.

My close runner up as the only other 4 star ending available that I hadn't already done once, was that she becomes a successful Entrepreneur while married to Claude, the knights academy professor. It is rather cute and feels like a good brainy strategically minded pair --and I do love her Entrepreneur outfit-- but all in all not my favorite of the Lords/Ladies endings.

I do regret a little that Lebsa was the first marriage, because she had the slimmest pickings of endings (also super mad I didn't think so save on the final day of the first game, so I can't farm it for other endings) but she does appear to have a special alternate romance ending, so maybe I'll aim for that next time and opt for a stronger more focused soldier build than what I could scrape together on my first play thru.

I do really need to get better about committing to over specialization, because in every case I give in to wanting to even out the other stats once my top one hits that diminishing returns curve.

It is only just sinking in with me how funny it is that the gallery mode collects rejection letters from all the second place romance options. Like it actively encourages completionists to reject everyone.

So oddly enough the "Monarch" end was not actually a queen ending. Metheus wound up as an Honorable Knight. One star down and in the military category that I'd spent most of his deliberate training on he also had Captain of the Guard available. In my head I want to imagine Met wound up as sort of both, or something inbetween.

"Marriage" wise I also opted into the secondary Lebsa ending since I had the opportunity. I won't really go into details since it's sort of a twist ending. It was interesting to see the closure on her whole deal, but I dunno, I was kinda less pleased with it as a romantic end.

I also made an effort to level a number of different romance options at the same time in this run so that they'd be on turn's worth of stat ups away so I could easily farm them for endings. So I did also get to see the bathouse owner, Mary, clothing store owner, Rebecca, and childhood bestfriend Nina's marriage endings. Nina's definitely felt like the biggest deal of them all, but it was also a little too saccharine for me. I was super into Mary's romance route though as a slightly older woman.

Oh and I was hoping to be able to double dip on the Darkness endings but I screwed it up. The one seemed to override the other. So despite having the special badge from clearing the backalley sidequest, I couldn't pick the backalley ending. For a split second I thought I had a solution: I could buy the shady potions that lower stats 30points per potion, and try to fail the 6star Dark end's Charisma check. But it turned out I could only buy two before the final date, and that could only drop Met's Charisma to 79 at the lowest, and the threshold was 70. which was mindnumbingly frustrating that it got so close. If I'd just made the save one day sooner it all would've worked.

Met was however able to become The Devil, even if I'm not counting it as my "canon" ending in this weird pseudo-continuity I've been keeping with Arsia, Sif, and Asha...
