Fav X-23 artists!!
In celebration of Laura’s new mini (🍾🥂), here’s a countdown of some of my FAVORITE Laura Kinney art!
Mike Choi
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest- Choi is pretty much *THE X-23* artist! From “Target X” to “X-Force vol. 3”, there’s just something about his art that always manages to capture Laura’s essence perfectly!
2) Joshua Middleton
Tumblr media
I KNOW Middleton is a controversial choice…but there’s just something sad and tragic about his rendition of Laura that I really love. He’s one of the X-23 artists that I really wish would return on another X-23 book!
3) Will Conrad
Tumblr media
It might be because of the Hellion and Laura “Killing Dream” scene, but Conrad is one of my favorite X-23 artists! While definitely not the strongest X-23 artist listed…I just really like his rendition of Laura!
(I think part of it is that I just like Laura with pouty lips!) 😂🤣
4) Billy Tan
Tumblr media
Tan probably SHOULD be higher, simply because he did such a wonderful job with conveying a wide variety of emotions despite Laura being completely silent!!… Tan really makes “Innocence Lost” the power house book that it is and if it wasn’t for Choi and Middleton, I would probably say he is the most iconic X-23 artist!
5) Skottie Young
Tumblr media
While I do weirdly enjoy Mark Brooks 90’s style chibi art…Young is definitely *THE New X-Men artist!* While I wasn’t much of a fan of his version of Julian…I deeply LOVE his Laura, Surge, Pixie, and Anole and appreciate how much Young IS the Bill Sienkiewicz of NXM!
6) Sana Takeda
Tumblr media
Takeda is kind of a “hit or miss” for me…if I am being honest, I like Takeda’s rendition of Hellion better than I like her Laura.
Some of Takeda’s panels are really gorgeous and really fit the scene perfectly (like the panel of her with Jubilee!), and some just feel kind of out of place in an X-23 book; I would kind of compare it to “Batman: Gotham Knight” with bishie Bruce Wayne… sometimes it’s just a little bit jarring and it kind of takes me out of the moment.
7) Kalman Andrasofszky
Tumblr media
While Andrasofszky has ONLY done covers…I tend to think they have all been pretty memorable! I especially LOVE his Hellion and Laura cover and I wish Andrasofszky was doing the main art for the new Schultz book!
8) Marcio Takara
Tumblr media
I really enjoy Takara and how fun his art is; my only wish is that he had drawn Laura during her X-23 days, because I think his commission work of her is a bit better than his work on ANW. That being said- his Gabby is positively ADORABLE, as is his Jonathan!
9) Sara Pichelli
Tumblr media
I REALLY love Pichelli’s art despite it being a Bendis book, focusing on Laura and O5 Angel, and Laura’s eye color being totally wrong!
Pichelli’s “goth Laura” is just absolutely beautiful! She’s another artist that I would love to see return to X-23, because her art is just Joelle Jones levels of beauty!
The nightclub ANXM issue is hands down some of the best Laura art out there and if it wasn’t for the coloring mistake, she’d probably be higher on the list for me!
10) Juann Cabal
Tumblr media
While I don’t always love how Cabal does faces, he is definitely one of the most creative comic artists out there! The detail he puts in and how he stylizes the onomatopoeia is just really engaging! I especially LOVED his work in the “OWL” arc!
11) David Finch
Tumblr media
While I am not always a big Finch fan, nor do I always think his art suits every character, I do really like his rendition of Laura. The excess of lines and grittiness just work really nicely with Laura and remind me of Jim Lee or Andy Kubert’s 90’s X-Men, but with a more modern color palette.
12) David Lopez
Tumblr media
I really loved Lopez’s art when it first came out but have kind of cooled on it a bit since then. I think part of it is it just doesn’t really “look” like Laura to me. Compared to all the other artists, I just don’t feel like Lopez captures Laura’s “essence” as well as the others.
That being said, Lopez did a great job on “Four Sisters” and the panels in Paris are especially beautiful!
13) Phil Noto
Tumblr media
Noto is that artist a LOT of people dislike because all his faces look more or less the same. I will give Noto this- I think his “face” works well for Laura in this instance; there’s just something kind of innocent about it that I like. I also like how Laura is a little more “plain” and “awkward” in his work; she looks like a genuine teenager here. She blends in to the background more.
I know Laura is SUPPOSED to be very attractive, but in some ways I enjoy Noto’s plainer rendition and I often think Noto’s work is in general, better suited for teen books than drawing characters like Emma or Black Widow.
14) Clayton Crain
Tumblr media
While I like Crain’s work and think it was a good choice for X-Force…it does sometimes bug me how “CGI”- lite it looks…it definitely hasn’t aged well.
Some panels are absolutely amazing…others…not so much!
While I do think Crain had improved over time, his old work is, for lack of a better word, sometimes kind of clunky!
Those are some of my personal favorites- Let me know if you agree…? Or disagree…?

By Matt Grobar
EXCLUSIVE: Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), Timothy V. Murphy (Appaloosa) and Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher) have boarded The Fabulous Four, a new comedy from Bleecker Street, which has entered production in Georgia under an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA.
The actors join an ensemble that also includes Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, and Megan Mullally, as previously announced. Ralph takes over the role of Sissy Spacek, who was attached as of last fall but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Bleecker Street nabbed North American rights to the pic last October and will release the film in U.S. theaters in 2024. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance arranged the financing and brokered the deal for U.S. rights, with Sierra/Affinity repping international sales.
Written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the Cannes prize-winner best known for her Kate Winslet pic The Dressmaker, the film follows three life-long friends (Sarandon, Mullally, and Ralph) who travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend Marilyn (Midler). Once there, sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected.
Richard Barton Lewis’ Southpaw Entertainment is producing alongside Lauren Hantz of Hantz Motion Pictures.
An icon of stage and screen, Ralph has won an Emmy and numerous other accolades for her portrayal of kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, the ABC mockumentary that has emerged as one the most popular scripted series on linear. The show, created by and starring Quinta Brunson, was renewed for a third season in January but only recently returned to the writers’ room, following the conclusion of the WGA strike. Otherwise perhaps best known for her Tony-nominated turn as Deena Jones in Broadway’s Dreamgirls, Ralph has also been seen in Mistress with Robert de Niro, To Sleep with Anger with Danny Glover, The Distinguished Gentlemen with Eddie Murphy, and Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg, along with such series as Moesha and Ray Donovan.
Most recently recurring on Law & Order: Organized Crime and ABC’s The Company You Keep, Murphy previously reprised his role in Uni’s comedy MacGruber on the same-name Peacock series. Other recent credits for the actor on the TV side include S.W.A.T., Snowpiercer, Westworld, and True Detective, to name just a few. Additional feature credits include In Full Bloom, The Lone Ranger, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
Greenwood puts in a stellar turn as Fortunato Pharmaceuticals CEO Roderick Usher in Netflix’s Edgar Allen Poe-inspired miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher from Mike Flanagan, which bowed on the platform earlier this month. He also recently starred in the Fox medical drama The Resident, which ran for six seasons, and will soon appear in fantasy pic The Invisibles with Tim Blake Nelson and Gretchen Mol, among other projects.
At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Bleecker Street nabbed U.S. rights to James Hawes’ One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins, and the starry British comedy Fackham Hall, which goes into production next year. The company also locked down UK rights, alongside Elysian Film Group and Anonymous Content, to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Upcoming releases include the Meg Ryan-helmed rom-com What Happens Later, coming to theaters November 3, which she leads with David Duchovny, and Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s Waitress: The Musical, out December 7 with Fathom Events.

Uncanny Icon: Prologue
Kurt Wagner x Original Female Character (Adrian Grey)
Rating: M
Summary:
In 1963, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby debuted their band of merry mutants, the X-Men! But what if there was a sixth gifted youngster? How would the story change? How would relationships form and dynamics diverge? Enter the Indelible Icon!
Beginning with Giant-Size X-Men #1, follow the story of Adrian Grey aka Icon, the youngest founding X-Men member. With an ability to read emotions, Adrian's story is one of love, loss, and overcoming obstacles, from dastardly villains to personal demons in classic X-Men, soap opera style. Along the way, see her find her closest friends amongst the newest recruits to the team and, perhaps, love with our favourite fuzzy blue elf!
Whether you're a fan of the Claremont run, a lover of Nightcrawler, or just need something to fill the X-Men '97 void, Adrian's story is sure to be... Iconic!
[I have the first three chapters up on AO3 but now that I've made this blog, I'll post the first three chapters to get you caught up over this weekend, and then will update every week with the AO3 page!]
Annandale-on-Hudson, New York…
She’s screaming again. Not her outside scream, not the scream that breaks through her vocal cords, coming out her mouth with noise and power. It’s the scream that only she can hear, the one in her mind, the one that no one else can hear. No one else can hear the noises, the fear, the joy, the rage, the pain, the pain, thepainthepainthepain…
‘Adrian Grey?’
Her eyes snap open. That wasn’t right. The only voice that was ever in her mind was Jean’s, and even then it was only when she was upset. But this? Cutting through the emotions, the clips and hushes and breaths… is a voice. Unfamiliar, masculine.
She needs to answer, she knows that people don’t like when she doesn’t speak with her mouth. Answers require mouth, mouth is body, body is real. Body means normal. Show everyone that you’re fine, that you’re normal, Mother says when they let her go outside, those days she feels safe enough to brave the storm of noises and feelings of the world.
She blinks her eyes, peering over her shoulder from the darkened corner of the room. From first glance, one could be tempted to say they were animal eyes, reflecting the light of the hall. But Adrian’s eyes aren’t reflecting, they’re glowing. They’re eyes that blink in the same golden shade as the shining energy that warps around her in shapes and forms she barely knows how to control.
The voice comes back, this time aloud, for her ears this time, not her mind.
‘Miss Grey, your parents have asked me to speak to you, because they believe I can help. Do you know where you are?’
Her hand touches the wall corner she’s cowered against. She nods, her head hitting the wall though she doesn’t seem to notice. Physical is real, physical is here. ‘My room.’
‘Good. And how old are you, Miss Grey?’
‘Twe-Thirteen,’ she corrects herself midway. It had been her birthday recently. Her parents bought her a cake and let her eat a slice in her room. It’s been years since she had a birthday party like Jean and Sara got every year. It’s not safe for you, sweetie, Father would say, patting her head when she asked, you wouldn’t enjoy it. They were scared for her. Scared of her? ‘I’m thirteen.’
‘Adrian, I would like to help you, if you would let me,’ the voice continues, getting closer. She hides her face again, the energy swirling around her solidifying, constructing a protective shield around her. No touch, no touch, notouchnotouchnotouch –  ‘Miss Grey, I will not harm you, I will not touch you without your explicit permission. You are a very special girl with powers that are causing you a great deal of pain. I believe that I will be able to help you control them.’
Slowly, she lifts her head, the energy beginning to fade. As her vision begins to take focus, her eyes return to their original brown shade, emphasising just how young she really is, how small, how scared.
The voice belongs to a man her parents’ age, if not a bit younger, bald with thick, expressive eyebrows. He moves forward in a wheelchair, leaning down to get closer to her level on the floor. He holds a hand to her. ‘Allow me to help you.’
The emotions flow easily now, as they always do when she meets someone’s eyes. The hope, the dream, the conviction. The wave of promise and safety.
‘Who are you?’
He smiles, his hand reaching out to her once more.
‘My name is Charles Xavier.’

In TALES OF SUSPENSE (1959) #39, Lee, Lieber and artist Don Heck introduce Tony Stark – and show how, to save his own life, he must build the invincible armor of Iron Man! In STRANGE TALES (1951) #110-111, Lee and Steve Ditko present the psychedelic world of Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts! And in DAREDEVIL (1964) #1, Bill Everett teams with Lee to show how blind youth Matt Murdock becomes the fearless adventurer known as Daredevil!
104 PGS./Rated All Ages …$7.99
--
Despite the many solicitations, I don’t think it will be a busy for Stephen (at least, on the confirmed appearances) because, well, Ults will be confused on Miles Morales, not the Illuminati. And the other one is just a reprint. Stephen will be certainly more featured in Warlock, which is nice to see again since they share a history. And that’s it!

race diversity
Diversity in fashion means bringing in a diverse group of people who share clear distinctions such as age, skin color, race, orientation, and body type. People want to be heard, seen, and, most importantly, represented, which is what big fashion brands such as Chanel and Gucci are doing. For years modelling agencies and editors tended to look to one body type and skin colour. However over the years there have been a number of black model figures who have led the way in changing the industry such as Winnie Harlow, Jourdan Dunn and Amar Akway.
Dorothea Towels who was born in Texarkana and was the first top model to work in Paris after she was discovered by Christian Dior in 1949 becoming one of the most celebrated models in Europe. Christian Dior was the first to hire her. Working with other models from Finland, Sweden, England (and even Soviet Russia, extremely uncommon at the time) she helped Dior to internationalise the appeal of his fashions. Being one of the models chosen to help popularise Dior’s revolutionary “New Look”, she also learned the “Dior Swirl” and dazzled both him and his clients during the excessive runways.

Other models such as Sara Lou Harris, Donyale Luna and Mounia all made historical moments such as Sara Lou’s Harris becoming the first black model to appear in an advert campaign, Luna becoming first black model to appear on the cover of vogue and Mounia who became Ysls first ever black muse.

Iconic Naomi Campbell has been the face of fashion since the late 80s, she has always been an inspiration to many young women and has climbed her way to the top working with high brands such as Chanel , Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler and many more. Her most iconic moments include closing Gianni Versaces last haute couture show in 1997 as a Versace bride.

Supermodel Donyale Luna was one of the worlds most beautiful women in the 1960s. Born Peggy Lee Ann Freeman in Detroit, Luna began modelling in 1965 and within months an article in Time magazine declared 1966 to be “the Luna year” she was the first black model to appear on the cover of British vogue, was a muse to legendary photographers like Richard Avedon and David Bailey.
