Caesar's and Eleonora's first meeting did not go well...
“I’m not lost.” Eleonora’s fingernails dug into her bag’s handle. “I don’t need your help.” She could find her way around just fine on her own.
“I’m afraid that you do.” Heat rose against her ears. Who was this boy to tell her what she needed and didn’t need?!
There was the flash of something metal in the corner of her eye. The sun’s energy crackled at her fingertips, and she pivoted on her heel. Before her assailant could even land his blow, her bag met with his cheek. Hamon rippled across his features as he stumbled back, the wrench in his hand clattering to the ground.
“Nice try, stronzo ,” said Eleonora, unamused. “But I’m smarter than that.” The false sweetness that had plastered his face disappeared as he looked up at Eleonora again. Yeah, that was the look that she was used to seeing.

ok i've been going a little apeshit on twitter for the past Several Hours, because my partner and I have developed an alternate timeline for JJBA that we call the Benevolent Guardian Vampire DIO timeline, and it is what i am CONVINCED is the truth for the Irene universe. JJBA spoilers for every part 1-6 to follow, of course, but here's the entire unhinged timeline under the read more if you'd like to follow along!!!
Rough timeline for the benevolent guardian DIO timeline (as brainstormed by me and mal, broken down by which "part" it would be set during): 1800s- everything up to dio being taken in by george joestar I is the same. dio is still a huge shithead through his early days with the joestars, but jonathan slowly wins him over and dio grows to love him. however, when he and dio are university students (and jonathan is researching the stone mask) an accident causes the mask to turn Dio into a vampire.
Jonathan goes to Ogre street in hopes that he can find a way to save his brother among the medicine there, where he's attacked by Speedwagon. That fight happens the same way, Speedwagon is still awed by Jonathan, etc, etc. But at ogre street, the mask (which jonathan brought to look for a cure to it) is STOLEN BY JACK THE RIPPER.
jack the ripper is essentially the villain of part 1; jonathan and dio must work with baron zepelli to learn hamon and stop jack the ripper from terrorizing all of london and the world; jonathan also learns hamon hoping it will give him a way to save his 'brother' from a doomed life of darkness and immortality. He masters Hamon, but when it is revealed he would have to kill Dio to save him from this fate, Jonathan refuses. But they defeat Jack the Ripper, something that is very personal to Speedwagon as Jack the Ripper was explicitly targeting working girls, who he- as someone from the underbelly of society- considered his friends and comrades; so he's so moved by Jonathan's act of kindness protecting even the poor and the downtrodden that he vows then and there to devote his life to Jonathan's lineage forever, whatever way he can.) (Dio, being PETTY, also immediately vows to ALSO do that because he has to one-up Speedwagon. this vow will haunt him for the rest of eternity but he will unfortunately hold to it with every ounce of his hardheaded pettiness.) END OF PART 1!
Well, a few things before the FULL end of part 1. Because fate still has a way of drawing people together, Erina and Jonathan still wind up adopting an orphaned Lisa Lisa as well as having their own son, George II. George and Lisa Lisa go on to get married. Jonathan passes down his Hamon training to Lisa Lisa, since George II does not show interest in it, and she becomes the one to carry the family's Hamon legacy. She DOESN'T have to go into hiding, so she raises her son Joseph in the art of Hamon from birth. DIO stays by Jonathan and Erina their entire lifetimes, and is still accompanying a very elderly Erina and Jonathan at the time that part 2 happens.
(Somewhere in this gap, Jonathan agrees to relinquish his Hamon practice to age alongside his wife; Dio begs him several times to let him turn Jonathan into a vampire, Jonathan refuses gently, and Dio continues standing by him and his family because of that petty vow earlier (and because unfortunately they're also his family and he loves them.))
(Speedwagon also still gets rich and founds the speedwagon foundation.)
PART 2! The nazis still awake the pillar men because they're still fucking stupid. The Speedwagon foundation hears about this and contacts Lisa Lisa and Joseph Joestar because their family knowledge of Hamon can help stop the Pillar men as an existential threat to the world.
They also contact rival Hamon dojo family, the Zeppelis, (Baron Zeppeli went on to live, but to view Jonathan as his rival as Jonathan allowed a vampire to exist) who send their current rising star Caesar. Joseph and Caesar develop the same friendly himbo rivalry bc they're both trying to one-up each other as the representatives of their respective Hamon schools. DIO winds up joining them, they have to train to defeat the Pillar Men, Caesar doesn't die because DIO saves him (begrudgingly), they beat the pillar men pretty much exactly the same, Joseph marries Suzi Q. Caesar becomes his lifelong friend and rival.) SOMETIME AFTER PART 2, Jonathan Joestar finally dies of old age. Grief-stricken, immortal vampire DIO begins a long bender across the earth where he mostly drinks a lot and fucks a lot, because he's still a dramatic whore; around the end of this big grief bender is when he winds up conceiving Donatello, Ungalo and Rykiel.)
SOMETIME IN THE 80S, some other archaeologist on a dig discovers the Stand arrows. These still end up becoming the possessions of Enya.)
PART 3! Enya is still out creating stand users left and right, and these are still causing chaos across Egypt and the Middle East. The Speedwagon foundation, now devoted to research of the paranatural after the Pillar Men, is told of the crimes of Enya by the fortune teller Avdol. Joseph Joestar is still called to investigate; his grandson Jotaro ends up coming along because of it being part of his Joestar family duties, though he has not taken up Hamon. His classmate Kakyoin winds up coming along because Jotaro will be damned if he goes on this boring road trip with his grandpa without someone he can tolerate there to keep him company. Jean-pierre Polnareff ends up joining their crusade because he is looking for the man with two right hands who killed his sister. Iggy is still sent by the SWF at some point.) They call in Dio, as their family guardian and he finally crawls up out of his 40-year grief bender to help them, because "ugh ok i guess for jonathan's grandson." The party treks across the world looking for Enya and her bow and arrow that are causing all these new Stands to pop up and cause trouble.
At some point, *Joseph* is shot with the arrow, which causes Stands to manifest across his entire family line, including awakening one in Jotaro and Dio. Holly gets a fever, but since the line isn't like "tainted with a curse" or whatever, she's just sick for a while and recovers.
The rest of part 3 (the episodic battles against new stand users) is largely the same, but Dio is there and their ally and it's hilarious because he's just as shitty as the rest of them. In the end, they fight Enya, and Kakyoin, Avdol, and Iggy all survive the arc because their foes are not led by an immortal vampire, and in fact they *have* an immortal vampire on their side. Part 3 ends when they defeat Enya, they all go home, everything is nice. Dio goes back to roaming the world and doing his vampire thing.
END OF PART 3!
Part 4: At some point, Enya gave a stand arrow to Mr. Nijimura, Senior. THIS IS WHAT LEADS IN TO PART 4!!! Instead of it being Keichou who was shooting the arrows and awakening stands all over town, it was Mr. Nijimura, Senior. Okuyasu and Keichou come to town to try to STOP him, and the climactic battle against him takes the place of the one against Keichou.
So part 4 ends up being nearly exactly the same. Jotaro (and this time Kakyoin!) come to investigate the stand arrows and the happenings in Morioh. Josuke (still the exact same origin story, he's Joseph's estranged son) gets dragged into the investigation. All the familiar and wacky faces are met and befriended; the exceptions are that Shigechi and Aya are both saved in time, thanks to the party also having Kakyoin, otherwise it's Literally Exactly The Same. they stop Kira, everyone lives, party time!
Dio doesn't get involved this arc because he's not interested in what the Speedwagon foundation needs, and he's just roaming around vibing.)
PART 5! HERE'S WHERE THERE ARE TWO VERY FUN BIG CHANGES. See, there are two carry-overs from the old, canon timeline at the end of part 6. Emporio... and Giorno. And not just Giorno, but Diavolo as well, who were all unaffected by the snap back to this timeline from Made in Heaven. Meaning Diavolo and Giorno both never effectively existed. This is actually what I HC for the alternate universe that happened in their absence in April 6th, so this is what i believe for the Benevolent Guardian Dio timeline. With no Diavolo, no one ever brought the arrows to italy and created the unstoppable crime family that is Passione. While crime still exists, there is not the same supernatural vice grip on the underworld and there are not as many Stand Users among the Vento Aureo characters; most don't have stands at all and the few that do awaken them naturally.)
SO. The Bucci gang all largely have the same backstories- Abbachio still joins the force and becomes disillusioned after the loss of his partner; Bruno's father is still killed by criminals. But instead of each of them joining Passione, they both decide they're better off becoming private detectives to try to help people outside the law; they solve private cases and are generally thought of as the two to turn to when the police have you on false convictions or other illegitimate charges.)
That's how they meet Fugo- who needs their help proving that he beat his teacher with a dictionary after months of abuse, because he's being tried as an adult; it's where they meet Narancia, who is being held for crimes he didn't commit and was framed for by another member of his street gang; it's where they meet Mista, who is under arrest for shooting three men when he was really just trying to save the woman they were assaulting.
Somehow or another they Ace Attorney these 3 out of trouble with evidence and investigation, and all 3 of them become lifelong friends and also junior detectives who help Bruno and Abbachio as a side gig occasionally between their other jobs.
(Fugo becomes an academic, so he's able to grant them information about niche topics; Mista becomes a chef but has a massive gossip network that runs through his kitchens and ALWAYS has rumors and intel, and Narancia becomes a dancer & later dance teacher but has a talent for going undercover and getting info out of people)
The events of VA are actually a mystery they're trying to solve for alternate universe Trish, who is trying to find her father after her mother passed away and she was left with no living relatives; they are trying to help her find the identity of one Solido Naso, who had disappeared the same year Trish was born. They have to escort Trish across italy chasing down clues and rumors on where this man could have gone to, as he truly seems to be a mystery and many people believe he died, not just disappeared- but there is JUST enough information to keep searching.
Eventually they find out that her father, now called Vinegar Doppio, erased his existence after a mental break at the hands of his adopted father's religious mistrratment- and then the trauma promptly developed into a state of dissociative amnesia, leaving himself a complete amnesiac- with no idea who he was or where he came from.
He was hard to track because he himself didn't have his identity, had no way of finding out who he was or where he came from, and eventually settled down into a quiet life as a sailor. He's surprised to find out he has a daughter, but if Trish is interested in reconnecting, he would be very happy about the idea of having a family, since he's got no idea if he ever had one and it would be nice to have some connection to who he was at all. He takes in Trish, the Bucci gang leave happy, they all live and go on to various careers and to solve mysteries and help people).
END OF PART 5!
from there the story actually gets VERY simple and domestic, as part 6 doesn't really HAPPEN the same way. Jotaro Kujo does get married and have a daughter he names Irene; he's not as absent for his daughter's life because he is no longer afraid for the Joestar line or any misfortune he's brought to her, as the Speedwagon Foundation and Dio have served to protect them from ill and misfortune.
He DOES eventually divorce her mother (and in my mind it's because he realizes he's gay and goes to marry Kakyoin, but that's just headcanon, the point is it's amicable.)
Everyone's backstories are altered in slightly subtle ways- Domenico is the child who was raised by the Pucci family, so he was raised alongside Perla. I like to think he becomes a painter and takes off to roam in search of inspiration, wandering around the whole country hitchiking and painting.)
Eldis never loses her sister Gloria; she goes off to college on a track and field scholarship but comes back after an aimless college education with no real plans for anything and just winds up helping Gloria run the family business. (She's on her way back from her final semester when she meets Irene and Anakiss.)
Anakiss never ends up taking his ex apart and Irene never ends up framed for a hit'n'run; they meet outside of prison like any other normal couple. (I like to think they met at a convention, because they're queer milennials in Florida with pink & green hair and I know my people.)
The couple and the others meet for the very first time on the side of that road where Emporio meets them, and they wind up on an impromptu road trip together that ends with the 4 of them realizing they just fit well together in a way that feels easy and natural.
They become a little squad and move in together and take care of Emporio; they never seem to have enough money and they're always winding up with chaos and weird situations together and they're a dysfunctional fucked up little family, but they love each other and they take care of each other.
THE END OF PART 6!!!
THERE'S A FEW MORE MINOR ADDITIONS TO MY POST-CANON HEADCANONS! these all happen outside the edges of actual canon things in jojo, but they're things I hc about the whole setup:
After he gets a bit older, Joseph and Suzi go to live in Japan to be closer to Holly and Josuke. Tomoko and Josuke end up moving in with Joseph and Suzi; it feels a little like a multi-generational household of grandparents, single mother and grandson except Joseph and Tomoko are definitely a little embarassed about the whole ordeal and while Tomoko holds a flame for Joseph, he's quite an old man now and she's happy to exist in a less romantic friendship-partnership with him and help look after him and also let him be more involved in Josuke's life.
As a result, I think Tomoko does the majority of raising Shizuka; she's not exactly Joseph's WIFE, but she thinks of herself as Shizuka's mother just as Joseph is shizuka's adopted father and so Josuke and Shizuka very much grow up as adopted siblings
Dio DOES end up finding out about Rykiel, Ungalo and Donatello after their births. While he's not exactly an extra PRESENT father, being an immortal vampire who knows he can't really be that good of a father and who has a duty to protect the Joestars and therefore must disappear at the drop of a hat in order to assist them; he DOES make sure to keep them out of trouble and see to it they're taken care of, too- he's able to have Rykiel seen by doctors who actually take him seriously and help his health and his anxiety, he gets Donatello off the hook after Donatello is arrested on false charges for those shoes he didn't steal, and he helps give Ungalo more resources and care and support earlier on so he never winds up falling into drugs.
(Also maybe he killed sports maxx idk florida was a bit of a party for Dio and he doesn't remember everything he did there, he found out he had kids and kinda got so startled he was various levels of Dramatic about it, maybe he killed a criminal or two, who are you to judge)
WHAT ELSE.... i secretly hc that enrico actually DID get carried back to the old world but he was switched at birth and raised by Wes's mother instead. He never developed a crush on Perla because he's gay, but he also never fell in as closely with religion and instead focused on his education and his interest in science and astronomy as an attempt to help earn money and get himself and his mother out of poverty. he wound up working at NASA !!!!
AAAAAND THAT'S ALL FOR NOW that's my entire. entire ass timeline thank you for coming to my ted talk.

BEGIN: Battle Tendency Liveblog.   JJBA Ch. 45-47
Tumblr media
🇺🇸🗽🧗‍♂️🧼🪀🌵Part 2, Hell Yeah!🌪️🎈🛩️🌋🚬
I'm pretty friggin' excited for Part 6 anime, and Part 6 is one of my faves, so one could understandably assume that Part 6 is my favorite.  And I post a lot of other JoJo stuff on this blog, so it's probably not obvious, but Part 2 is the best.
I got into JoJo in 2017, watching Parts 1-4 in anime version, then reading the scanlations of Parts 5-8 while I waited for the anime to catch up.    Then I re-liveblogged the Part 5 manga because there was finally a proper translation available.   And technically the Part 8 liveblog never ended, since the manga is still ongoing.
As I developed an appreciation for the manga, I started to feel like I should go back and check out the comic versions of Parts 1 through 4.  Where better to start than my personal favorite?   But I never got around to it, until now.
There's a few things I want to explore with Part 2.    First, I want to go through and work out why exactly I like it so much.   It's kind of tough to articulate, but usually I just say that it's fast-paced and something's always happening.   Part 1 takes a while to get going, and Parts 3-8 rely on the Stand concept, which means that each of them occasionally fall into the trap of becoming formulaic.   Part 2 doesn't have the hassle of introducing all the lore, and it doesn't have the luxury of just doing a gauntlet of Stand Battles to pad out the story.   But I think there's more to it than that.  Battle Tendency has a charm all it's own, and that's what I want to talk about.
Second, now that I've become familiar with Parts 1-7 (and most of 8), I want to go back and see how 2 holds up as part of this mythos.   BT sort of gets overlooked, I think, and that's fair, since it doesn't involve Dio, Stands, or the more outlandish costumes of the later installments.  A lot of fans write off Parts 1 and 2 for being "boring", but at least Phantom Blood carries the prestige of starting it all, and providing the origin of Dio.  Something I think a lot about is whether or not Part 2 "connects" with the later entries in the JoJo series.  It forms a trilogy with 1 and 3, and Part 4 features Joseph's legacy in an important way, but what about the later ones?   Parts 5 through 8 owe a huge debt to Stardust Crusaders for introducing Stands, and to Phantom Blood for introducing JoJo's, but what does Part 2 give them, if anything?
Third, I'm interested in seeing how BT holds up in isolation.    It's a direct sequel to Part 1, and it ends with a prelude to Part 3, so it's clearly designed to function as part of a larger saga.   But Parts 4 and 5 really don't operate that way, and that got me thinking that maybe Part 2 is more self-contained than I give it credit for.
But enough about that, let's get this started.
Tumblr media
There's two plot threads in these opening chapters.  One reintroduces Robert E. O. Speedwagon, now a 70 year old oil tycoon, and Straizo, who has succeeded the late Tonpetti as the Ripple Master.   Speedwagon has been using his oil fortune to fund a research organization called the Speedwagon Foundation, and it discovered something major during an archaeological expedition: an engraving of the stone mask, the same one Dio used to turn himself into a vampire 50 years earlier.   Note that the mummified corpse lying on the slab with the engraving has vampire fangs.   Whoever this guy is, he didn't just know about the masks, he used one personally.
It might get revealed later in the comics, but I'm pretty sure the anime version had Speedwagon explain that he primary purpose of his foundation was to learn more about phenomena like the Stone Mask, which is probably why they were digging up an Aztec temple in Mexico to begin with.   As I recall, the Stone Mask was discovered in that part of the world, and taken back to Europe, where it eventually came into the possession of the Joestar family.   Speedwagon would know this tale, and so if he wanted to find out more about the mask, he would have known where to start.   Fifty years later, he seems to have hit paydirt.
Tumblr media
But the mask engraving isn't why he called Straizo all the way in from Tibet.   Deeper in the temple, there's a weird looking area that looks like something from out of an H.R. Giger painting.   In the center stands this column, or pillar, if you will, and mounted on the pillar is...
Tumblr media
...This guy, surrounded by more stone masks.   When I first watched this part of the anime, I though the big reveal here was that there were lots and lots of Stone Masks, which would be a big problem, since Part 1 made a big deal out of destroying the one Stone Mask that started all the trouble.   And maybe the guy in the pillar was the one who invented the things, I thought, but the bigger problem is that he made so many of them.   But no, Speedwagon explains that the "Pillar Man" is not an image carved into the stone, but a living being, in some form of suspended animation.  He even has a pulse.
So who is this guy and why did he create the Stone Masks?   Speedwagon does not care.   He only wants this Pillar Man destroyed before he wakes up, and that's the sole reason he called in Straizo.   The two of them were the only survivors of the battle with Dio 50 years ago, and Straizo's Hamon power, also known as the Ripple, can destroy vampires that were created by the Stone Mask.    So he's desperately hoping Straizo can finish off the Pillar Man the same way.   But Straizo doesn't seem as concerned about it, and he asks about Joseph Joestar instead.    So I guess I ought to circle back to the other plotline...
Tumblr media
Fifty years after Jonathan Joestar sacrificed himself to defeat Dio Brando, his wife Erina and his grandson Joseph have moved to New York City.   Joseph tries to buy a Coke, but this kid swipes his wallet.   Kind of funny how Joesph's first and last appearances in JJBA are him getting robbed.
Tumblr media
But the kid runs afoul of the local corrupt cops, who bludgeon him with their batons and threaten to put him in jail for 20 years unless he agrees to give them a cut of whatever money he makes from pickpocketing.   When Joseph catches up to this scene, the cop even says he's going to keep Joseph's wallet "as evidence".   I gotta say, not everything from Battle Tendency has aged well, but this police brutality stuff has become incredibly relevant.  This could be 2021, except the cop would have had a gun, and he would have shot Smokey, then Joseph because he mistook the Coke bottle for a rocket launcher.
Tumblr media
Joseph tries to defuse the situation by claiming he gave the wallet to the kid as a gift, but the cop doesn't believe that story, and he wouldn't care even if he did.   He even smears boogers in Joseph's face just to prove that he can say and do whatever he pleases.    Up to this point, Joseph looks and seems a lot like Jonathan.  Later artwork tries to downplay that resemblance, probably just so it's easier to tell them apart.   The anime gave Joseph different color hair, and Hirohiko Araki himself started drawing young Joseph with aviator goggles all the time, even though he doesn't wear them that much in this story.  But starting out, the idea was that Joseph is the spitting image of his grandfather, and it almost looks like this is just an clever way to sneak Jonathan back into the story and transport him forward in time, except....
Tumblr media
Coming through, coming through, coming through now
Coming through, coming through, coming through now
Tumblr media
Coming through, coming through, coming through
Shake it like it's heat, Overdrive!
Tumblr media
Yeah, so Joseph can do Hamon/Ripple tricks just like his grandfather, and all the others guys who could use Hamon back in Part 1.   The difference is that when Joseph does it, it looks coooooool.  After breaking Officer Hulk Hogan’s trigger finger, Joseph takes a big swig of soda, because it’s awesome.
Tumblr media
To Smokey’s surprise, Joseph did all that badass stuff a second ago, but he’s terrified about his grandmother scolding him for it.  So Joseph wants to run for it, and that suits Smokey, so they rush off together, beginning a long tradition of JoJo’s running from things.   Enemies, consequences, you name it.
Smokey asks Joseph how he learned how to do that trick with the coke bottle, and he says he has no idea, he’s just always been able to do it.    He knows his grandfather had the same power, but he’s dead, and so are his mother and father.  Curiously, Joseph’s father did not have Hamon powers, so it seems to have skipped a generation.
Tumblr media
And that sets up the other side of the plot.   Speedwagon wants Straizo to destroy the Pillar Man immediately, but Straizo first asks about Joseph.   He had heard some time ago that Joseph had innate Hamon abilities, and he had used them once to rescue Speedwagon from a kidnapping attempt in midair.   A flashback shows us this moment, with guys threatening to ransom and kill Speedwagon, but Joseph is just chilling in the back with a Superman comic.
Okay, time out.   This panel rules and all, but the Superman comic book didn’t start until 1939, a year after Battle Tendency begins.   Superman was featured in the 1938 magazine Action Comics, but this scene on the plane is a flashback to Joseph from his early teens.   Also, the earliest DC bullet logo didn’t appear until 1940, so what is this?  Some kind of magic, time travelling comic book?    I hope someone got fired for this blunder!
Anyway, Joseph was content to ignore the hijackers until one of them struck him, and even that wouldn’t have upset him except he got his own blood on his clothes, which Erina bought him, so that sends him into a rage.   Speedwagon was worried that Joseph might clobber the hijackers, but instead he knocks out the pilot, then drags him and Speedwagon out of the plane before it crashes.    The main thrust of that story was that Speedwagon was more worried about what Joseph might do than the hijackers who had already threatened to murder him.   Joseph is slow to anger, but once you piss him off he’s going to go to war, and he doesn’t always think things through.
Tumblr media
But he’s never been trained to use his powers like Straizo’s order.  Upon hearing this, Straizo kills his own disciples, and all of the Speedwagon Foundation guys, then knocks Speedwagon himself out.   This will anger Joseph when he hears about it, but Straizo is counting on this.    As he explains, Hamon power can slow his aging process down considerably.   He and Speedwagon are both about 70 here, but he looks much younger.   Even so, he’s feeling his age, and he confesses that he always admired Dio for his immortality and power.   So now that there’s Stone Masks available, he’s decided to use one on himself, become a vampire, and become “a being that surpasses all”.
And that’s a theme that runs through all of Battle Tendency, along with the rest of the JoJo franchise.  The main villains always seek power to position themselves above the rest of humanity.  At first, it seems kind of random for one of the men who opposed Dio to suddenly switch allegiences like this, but in truth, it’s human nature to be tempted by this kind of power.  Dio succumbed to the lure of the Mask, and now we find that Straizo would have done the same.   He just didn’t have the opportunity until now.
But the reason he’s concerned about Joseph is that he’s thinking this through.  Dio was defeated after all, so Straizo wants to eliminate anyone who could potentially defeat him.  Aside from himself and Speedwagon, the only others who know about the battle with Dio and the Stone Mask are Erina and Joseph.   Once he eliminates them, he’ll be free to do as he pleases.
Tumblr media
Back to New York, this is a pretty sweet drawing of a car.    I’m not a car guy, but even I can get behind this.  By now, Smokey has met Erina Joestar, and he finds out some of the backstory from Part 1.    Erina’s husband died at sea, and she was pregnant with their son, Joseph’s father, and had a baby girl whom she rescued from the same incident at sea.   The two children grew up, married, had Joseph, and died, the father in World War I, and the mother of some unspecified illness.  Perhaps out of loneliness, Erina is “unflinchingly kind” even to someone like Smokey Brown, who doesn’t seem to think he’s worthy of her favor.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Erina wants to take Smokey out to dinner at this nice Italian restaurant, but this racist mafia guy makes a big stink about a Black person being allowed to eat there.    Joseph gets up to kick his ass, but first he has to check with Erina to make sure it’s okay, and she’s like “Yeah, destroy that guy,” because even though she doesn’t approve of Joseph beating up people, she can’t abide disrespect to her friends.   This leads to the memorable fight scene where Joseph is like eight steps ahead of his opponent.  He goes for his brass knuckles, but can’t find them, and Joseph deduces where they are because of some bloodstains on his shirt.  He even suggests what this guy is about to say next because he’s so predictable.
Tumblr media
Then he dodges every blow, moving so quickly that this jerk thinks he was hitting Joseph, when in fact he was punching a hat rack behind Joseph, and somehow he didn’t notice that he impaled his hand on broken wood until Joseph explained it to him.     And honestly, this feels like the prototype for a lot of Stand Battles down the line.  I’ll have more to say on that later.
Tumblr media
What puts Battle Tendency over the top is how Joseph not only outwits this big lummox, but the rest of the diners at this restaurant all start applauding him for doing it.    They’re just honored to be present in this insane comic book where literally anything can happen.   “He made that asshole punch a hat rack!   This is awesome!”
Tumblr media
Then this dude suddenly speaks up.   He’s not only the mafia guy in charge of the first guy, but he’s also heard a hot tip about Speedwagon getting murdered in Mexico by a Tibetan man.   He knew Erina would be interested in hearing this, but he’d never met her before.  Small world, huh?
How would this guy already know about it, though?  I guess Straizo deliberately leaked the story, specifically so Joseph would find out about it sooner, but it seems awfully convenient.   But that’s how Battle Tendency rolls.   This thing’s only seven volumes long, and we’ve got a lot of ground to cover...

jojo asks!!!!! 5,7,14,18,19,22,25,26,33,35,37,38,41,42,44,50,51,52,56 OK THATS A LOT GL
OH my GOD DUD E
WELL. OK LETS GET TO IT, HERE’S ALMOST 2K OF JOJO OPINIONS
5. Fave pose?WELL, jonathan’s is a classic, but i’m pretty fond of giorno’s and josuke’s too!!
7. Fave line?there’s SO many iconic jojo lines, i can’t pick one, but some of my favorites are giorno: “we should steal 100 cars”, jotaro’s whole “that’s a nice watch” thing, and every dumbshit thing joseph says. on a more serious note, polnareff’s line about how “the third wish came true” in the judgement episodes always fucking destroys me
14. Fave thing about the Jojo series?again, so many things to choose from here, but one of my favorites is the overarching theme of legacy and bloodlines. i love how each part focuses on another member of the joestar legacy overcoming their own hardships and carrying on the family tradition of going on a bizarre adventure (ha) and defeating some great evil. adding onto that, i love how each jojo part is so different, how each jojo is in a completely new setting with a totally new cast, and yet araki always manages to make it feel like jojo (having characters from previous parts helps, and also makes me incredibly happy, but my point still stands)
18. Least fave fight and why?Hands down the alessei fight, for two big reasons.  first off - the wasted potential of including a de-aging villain and then NOT having your older character from a previous part fight him and temporarily age back to his original Look is unbelievable.  im gonna be bitter about old man joseph not turning back into hot young part 2 joseph in the alessei fight until the day i die.  with all that said, though, i think it’d be okay if the actual fight was decent enough. which brings me to my second big issue: it was terrible. de-aging polnareff isn’t a problem (and having jotaro not recognize him at all was hilarious, frustrating and entirely in-character all at once) but everything after that is fucking awful. everything with fucking. baby polnareff shoving his face in that woman’s boobs was disgusting and terrible and everything about those two episodes was The Worst, Ever. the very end with baby jotaro ora-ora-ing alessei was great, but not enough to make up for the garbage before it
19. Least fave thing about the Jojo fandom?ignoring the usual Nasty Shit (bc all fandoms have That Nasty Shit, made by Nasty People, so it’s not exactly an issue specific to jojo) my absolute least favorite thing from the jjba fandom is the characterizations of jotaro and kakyoin, both separate and as a couple. my main problem with it is that, due to their lack of a relationship in canon, nearly all content with the two of them (primarily shipping stuff, but also some non-shipping stuff) includes a LOT of fanon shit.  and this wouldn’t bother me - if the fanon was, y’know, derived/inferred from canon material, or if it was, in any possible way, in-character or accurate for either of them. it’s not. there’s a lot of heteronormativity issues surrounding a lot of their content (portraying kakyoin as ‘the girl’ and jotaro as ‘the man’, and all the bad stuff that comes from that), and. yeah i could go on but none of it’s in character and it’s real fucking depressing to me, bc jotaro gets other content from other parts, but all we get for kakyoin is. this. and it’s ridiculously out of character and lowkey Bad in a lot of ways. plus, to me, their relationship isn’t all that interesting in the first place; imo there’s not a Ton of potential there, and there’s so many other incredible canon relationships - both in part 3 (coughAVPOLcough), and in other parts - the fandom could be focusing on, but instead they’ve gotta focus on jota//kak. thanks guys. (another aspect of this ship i don’t like, bc i love to complain, is: i hate when people draw/write an au of jotaro and kakyoin raising jolyne, bc in canon she was raised by her mother and this au completely ignores jolyne’s mom....like araki already doesn’t treat his female characters That Great and now y’all gotta do this? cmon)
22. Do you prefer stands or hamon/ripple?LISTEN.....hamon holds a very special place in my heart, but there’s just SO much more potential with stands. sorry hamon, i love you, but. yeah, stands lmao
25. Stand ability you think wasn’t used well enough in the series?first and foremost on THIS list is kakyoin, who should’ve kept his possession ability and also had at least one more fight tbh. next: okuyasu. my beautiful son. he deserved at least another fight, maybe more - and yeah, he barely ever used his stand, which bums me out. and..uhh...there’s definitely more.....i mean i wish joseph used hermit purple more in general, so. yeah. tbh there’s not as much wasted potential here as i’d think, so good for u araki
26. Stand ability you thought didn’t suit the character it belonged to?i can’t..really.....think of anyone...?? like no one comes to mind immediately. to me, they all fit pretty damn well, in one way or another. the only one i can really name might be abbacchio, since he’s such an angry, bitter guy, and then he has a non-combat stand. that’s it? idk araki does this part very well imo
33. Have you played any of the Jojo games? Which is your favourite?i’ve played a little of eyes of heaven (at a friend’s house) and. well. see the thing is, the gameplay in eoh is..good? but really only if you’re doing single player.  the fact that there’s no two-player option due to the 3D stages is really unfortunate and kinda awkward when two people wanna play. plus the graphics sometimes aren’t the best, let’s be real. but despite all that, eoh is still and will probably always be my favorite game, despite barely playing it and never going through the story mode, for one sole reason: the plot. the idea of a game dedicated solely to bringing back all of the dead characters from each part?? and also having all the different characters from all the different parts interact????? as someone who hates character death and adores jjba part crossovers, i fucking LOVE it. it’s honestly so ideal and plays directly to my tastes, so eoh is very beloved to me
35. A character you relate to?Okuyasu and Jotaro, my boys. just like okuyasu, i’m very emotional/cry a lot, enjoy punching things, and also i’m dumb and gay.  with jotaro, i’m also ace, i have a resting bitch face, i (again) enjoy punching things, and in general...idk, it’s hard to sum up kujo jotaro in just words, but just know that i relate to him, like, so much
37. A character you don’t understand the hype over?i don’t understand how people legitimately like kishibe rohan, it confuses and angers me
38. Characters you wish could have interacted with each other?god where do i BEGIN.  i wish jonathan could’ve met joseph, caesar, and also smokey, i wish the squads from parts 3 and 4 could’ve met speedwagon, i wish jotaro and lisa lisa met, i wish caesar met the crewsaders, i wish polnareff met the duwang gang (particularly josuke and okuyasu), i wish josuke, giorno, and jolyne all met each other, i wish the duwang gang and passione met, i wish jotaro met giorno/passione, etc. etc. i could literally go on for hours, the sheer amount of wasted opportunities as far as characters from different parts meeting each other thanks to araki’s dislike of providing ‘’’’fanservice’’’’ in this specific way is criminal and i will be bitter about it for the rest of my miserable gay life, thanks for coming to my TED talk
41. A relationship between two characters that you really like?AGAIN, WHERE DO I BEGIN. ok some relationships i love are: jonathan and speedwagon, joseph and smokey, joseph and erina, joseph and caesar, joseph and jotaro, JOTARO AND POLNAREFF, polnareff and abdul (sobs), polnareff and kakyoin, josuke and okuyasu, josuke and jotaro, josuke and koichi, rohan and koichi, giorno and buccellati, giorno and mista, jolyne and hermes, johnny and gyro, AND gappy and yasuho. yeah. but imo if i had to pick one, jotaro and polnareff’s friendship in part 3 is one of my favorite relationships in all of jjba, mainly because at the beginning jotaro so clearly doesn’t get along with people and polnareff is loud and annoying and you’d never expect them to become friends AND YET they become BEST friends and their respect and love for each other is so obvious and effortless and it’s so clear how comfortable they are around each other and i just really, really love their friendship ok. (honorable mentions: joseph and caesar, and josuke and okuyasu: two more relationships i could rant about for literal hours)
42. What was the most bizarre moment in Jojo for you?really hitting me with the hard questions today aren’t we. well uhh honestly at this point i’m a bit numb to jjba’s weirdness (not in a bad way, it’s just that when something Really Strange happens i’m not super shocked or anything), but it sure was. interesting. to see stroheim come back from literally getting blown to smithereens in battle tendency. also: killer queen just, fucking, sliding open its abs to reveal stray car just chilling inside its torso? surreal.
44. Saddest Jojo moment?y’all really can’t let up huh. i mean for me, personally, the thing that Fucked Me Up was abdul’s second death + polnareff’s fake-out death + iggy’s death. all that at once, i just. man. there was a lot of tears watching that. otherwise, caesar and kakyoin’s deaths were painful as all hell, and jonathan’s was too. okuyasu’s wasn’t as much, for me, because i knew he didn’t die for real (i was actually super looking forward to that whole thing, bc how often do we get angst That Good in canon?? and davpro maxing it out like that??? fucking beautiful), but it was still sad. uhh yeah that’s it so far (i’m halfway through part 5 lmao). honorable mention to part 6 for fucking me up in advance, i already know it’s gonna fucking obliterate me, so, yeah, thanks araki, i’ll forward u the medical bill
50. If you had a stand, what would you name it?my stand would be 「FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH」, not on account of me being a fan of the band or anything, it’s just so fucking awesome
51. If you were in Jojo, which part would you want to be in?well i’d definitely want to be in part 4, since it’s super chill and happy and gay and also there’s no way kira would kill me, on account of me having awful hands (my nails are terrible)
52. If you could fight any character, who would it be?barring stand abilities, given the chance, i would do almost anything for the chance to beat the absolute shit out of kishibe rohan
56. Any headcanons?again, you’re opening the floodgates here, so i’m just gonna give you five as to not go on for another 4k:          1. jotaro is autistic          2. holly retained her stand, and uses it for everyday life          3. the ‘’hollywood screenwriter’’ lisa lisa married after part 2 is a woman          4. jotaro visits morioh every summer, if only for a few weeks          5. everyone is gay, no one is straight, have a nice day

Got bored so I started working on Barbara's design for Diamond is Unbreakable. Her style has matured a bit since Stardust Crusaders, but she still maintains some elements from that time.
I just gotta figure out which characters to doodle her interactions with so I can finish the sheet and post it. If anyone has any suggestions on that front, I'm willing to take them.

"I know that look you have right now. What are you planning?"
I know I promised something else when it came to my art, but inspiration struck me and I go with the flow.
And the flow just happened to be CaeNora.

"That is so nasty! Did you seriously drink all of that?!"
Another OC redraw, but this time with the Bucci Gang and Theodora's reaction to Giorno's disgusting crime.
If anyone wants to see more of these, feel free to send me a screenshot to redraw. So long as I can fit on of the Ripple OCs into it, I'll gladly work on it.
Original screenshot under the cut for comparison:
