please Please PLEASE everyone go read Like Every Tree Stands on Its Own by @mightybog it is phenomenal and has deliciously altered my brain chemistry. AND there's a sequel in the works which is sure to be just as marvelous and heartwrenching and beautiful as the first.

Seriously, I have been rotating this story for days, even made some picrews about it (courtesy of ElenaA's Kiss Crew, beloved).

I had to find it again, because I didn't remember the exact line, it was just kind of an "OH RIGHT didn't he say something about that?" moment. and I did remember it incorrectly! :') it's in 6-42, he actually says his grandma and his dad use magic devices because of the curse (which does imply it doesn't actually pass through marriage) (whoops). so the helmets might be something else and I assumed wrong! either that, or his mom is just wearing that for...fun? solidarity? personal enrichment? ...honestly I believe it of her.
