I'm putting them in a new post so I don't derail it. I hope to I see several take on the initial concept. It's so fun.

Nancy and Jonathan he knows from back home they moved out here before him and have jobs at the paper. Are they are romantically involved or just friends now 🤷‍♀️ either way they work well together.

And they help Steve in his search. Jonathan knows where most of the murals in the city are and Nancy gives him some tips on getting people to give him information and a list of questions to help him along.

Benny has a deli across from one of them. He won't give up much, things good for business draws a crowd and if Eddie just happens to a regular who always tips good well why would he sell him out. Still he does offer Steve a sandwich and a list of a few murals that are lesser known in the city.

Heather works in the shop across from on and is annoyed in the uptick of customers. They're cutting into her down time. She didn't see anything anyway and she tells Steve he's wasting his time. The Bat is a ghost no one ever seen him. Or so she says.

Steve still has to work so there are days when he makes no progress, gets nowhere on finding his soul mate. Spends sleepless night tracing the bat on his hip and looking at the picture Jonathan gave him hoping somewhere in the is a clue.

So on and so forth skipping ahead.

Then the Robin thing I initially brought up

I can see a Steve running around the city type of thing happening because of this. He’s turning into a real detective, asking about all the murals, folks who live in the area. Steve meeting other characters from Stranger Things as he moves closer to his goal of finding his soulmate. He’s checked every single one he knows of is commiserating at the bar by the latest one. Robin is a bartender, mostly waving off his search until he waxes on about his soulmate and how talented they are. Steve isn’t the usual sort looking for Eddie so she slips him the address for another bar, one that play live music, has art all over, tells him to check it out. CC is of course play in front of the biggest mural Steve’s seen from his soul mate yet.

Steve wants to memorize every aspect of the mural, wants to take in every detail but it's hard with a band playing right in front of it. Harder still when his eyes catch on the lead singer and can look away. Mesmerized for an entire set.

He doesn't even realize he's just been sitting there watching until the band leaves for a break. Then he's turning to the bartender, an older man in flannel, asking about the mural. Wayne chuckles, "you'll have to ask the owner about that but he doesn't usually talk about it."

Steve's a little tipsy form earlier as he accepts the beer Wayne slides to him like a condolence. Sulky over one more obstacle standing between him and his person. "Could you ask him anyhow, please?" Wayne looks him over takes in his downtrodden face and the begging tone of his voice before giving a nod.

Steve’s not very hopeful by the time Wayne slides another beer to him either a shrug. He stays for the band and hopes that maybe if he's persistent he'll get the information. Nancy always insists sleuthing takes persistence.

He's mesmerized all over again and feels like dark eyes are boring into him, like this one's just for him. Which is silly, he's drunk and he's never heard this band, much less met the man singing. No way would he be singling him out, just a trick of the lights and the third beer he ordered.

When the singer climbs down from the stage he trips over a light playing it off as a bow. But what stands out to Steve is dark eyes still hooked on him as Eddie dances through the crowd signing autographs and giving hugs.

Steve turns away, it's a lot, too much and he's still ninety percent sure he's imagining it. All up until there's a sweaty musician's chest brushing against his arm as Eddie leans on the bar next to him, "so I hear you've been asking about our favorite artist."

I dunno I'm sorely tempted to write it write it but I've got so many wips already so I jsut wanted to get out some thought because I found the concept so inspired.

Oh boy do I love it when I see two characters with vastly different personalities and wow their backstory and motivations and developments are in some proximity tied to each other? Wow how I do love that! What’s that? They have a rival-esque dynamic? Which stems from one characters insecurities? How interesting! I can’t wait to see how the pair’s relationship progresses throughout the span of the entire show! Hopefully they will be granted with a blossoming relationship from rivals to friends to an unbreakable bond that not even the insurmountable obstacle that is time and distance can wither! Hopefully the show displays poignant moments between the two that can act as lessons the audience can learn from such as battling your insecurities and being able to rely and trust people etc.!!!!

I do love both of these characters dearly. 😈 HAHAHAHAHA SHIPPING TIME!!!

Accidentally Undercover AU, let's go!

Three idiots and six identities, and all the comedic chaos that entails.

Y/N is a rather particular parkour enthusiast, who happened to catch the eye of someone scouting for new secret agent material. They're damn good at their job, though their lighthearted "ehehe I'm a secret agent" attitude doesn't really give off that impression. They're proud of their reputation though, and worked hard to get where they are.

In come Sun and Moon - one animatronic, two AIs (unbeknownst to Y/N). A tag team that works shorter shifts but due to their shared body still more than Y/N, and is scarily efficient. They quickly ascend the ranks and become respected agents to everyone except Y/N. About the same time, they look for a new place to live - somewhere with more space for all their gadgets and gear, and preferably with a landlord who won't ask too many questions.

Well, Y/N doesn't ask any questions they don't want turned around towards them, so at least with this arrangement everyone is happy. They don't mind the drilling, whirring, and all the other seemingly suspicious noises - because they're used to them, and have their own little workshop (although they invested in soundproofing long before Sun and Moon moved in). They do quite like their new neighbor, not realizing that's supposed to be plural, and find him one of the easier people to deal with in their life.

Not like their rival at work - who really seems hellbent on making their life difficult. Some mission overlap means they meet quite often, and fortunately mutually agree not to tell anyone else when their banter distracts them from the mission itself, almost causing them to fail. They don't truly hate each other. They're just the two smart kids in class who always need to prove themselves (to the other).

They're all very smart to work as secret agents - but I cannot emphasize enough that they are all three extremely, extremely stupid when it comes to their identities. They don't even expect the nice neighbor/ annoying coworker to be both, so of course they don't notice.

Sun and Moon can talk internally, and do sometimes, but mostly while one is active the other is in rest mode. It's a mutual decision - they would drive each other crazy, constantly critiquing actions/ not being able to actually intervene. They can "wake" each other, but mostly do that around the time of the switch anyway.

So when one talks about the respective Y/N identity they're aware of, they do so via recounting, and not shared memories, only increasing the dissonance between "Robin" and Y/N.

A present day to mildly futuristic setting, animatronics and robots are fully integrated into society. There's also enough of them around, so Y/N in turn doesn't question why their neighbor and coworker look so damn similar.

Shenanigans ensue ✨

NYT’s top 100 books came out, used to stalk you on GoodReads so I’m wondering if you had any thoughts about it?

YES okay so I’m not subscribed to the NYT because I don’t agree with their platforming of transphobia but you’d best believe that I went through the whole list.

The first thing I saw was the (intentionally?) eye-catching headline:

I’ma be real with you, New York Times, this is a pretty bold statement considering that we are not even a quarter through the century in question.

‘Literary luminaries,’ hah. I guess ‘The 100 Best Books of the First 25% of the 21st Century’ just isn’t as catchy of a clickbait headline.

So, yes... obviously I had some issues with the framing of this list. At the end of the article they do acknowledge that they only included books that were in English (translations were acceptable) and published in America (although books originally published elsewhere were acceptable as long as the translation’s publishing house was based in the US):

I think this is a stupid-ass limitation that, quite frankly, disqualifies the entire list, but whatever. It’s a newspaper from New York; I don’t expect the most worldly of perspectives on global literature.

Anyway, regarding the actual selection! Perhaps damningly, I have only read 34/100, and didn’t even like all of those. Also, there are mistakes (Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis was incorrectly listed as having been originally published in English, for example).

I will be honest, the list felt a lot like it was intentionally curated to give the veneer of diversity. A lot of the books on it are simply not very good, but that’s what you get for not being consistent with how you’re defining ‘best.’ Most popular? Most technical skill displayed? Most memorable? Who knows! The ‘most important [and] influential books of the era’ (or at least the first quarter of it, mind) cannot be determined while you’re still living through said era. That’s just not how anything works.

With that said: let’s do some statistics on these 100 books!

54 books by women; 46 books by men. (This was cool, actually.)

13 translated books; 87 books originally published in English. (This is a particularly egregious statistic, given that the initial claim was that the list would represent all the best books of the century; you cannot do that if nearly 90% of them are from America.)

69 fiction books; 30 nonfiction books; 1 poetry book.

Several authors had multiple works represented on the list (the whole ‘multiple books by a single author’ schtick was particularly annoying, given the constrained demographic of the potential books—not a good look):

Authors with two (2) books each: Alice Munro, Denis Johnson, Edward P. Jones, Hilary Mantel, Philip Roth, Roberto Bolaño, Zadie Smith.

Authors with three (3) books each: Elena Ferrante, George Saunders, Jesmyn Ward.

Regarding genres (this is a clever pun because the French word ‘genre’ refers both to genre and to gender):

17 nonfiction books by women.

13 nonfiction books by men.

36 fiction books by women.

33 fiction books by men.

1 poetry book (by a woman).

In general I really wasn’t too upset at the basic statistical breakdown of the list; it was pretty evenly divided by gender, if not genre. It wasn’t all white men, like many similar lists. The real issue was twofold:

You cannot claim to be providing a representative sample of the ‘best’ books while limiting your countries of origin.

You cannot claim to be providing a list of the best books of the current century when we have not even made it through a quarter of that century.

And frankly, a lot of the books on the list were just plain bad.

As a final note: Some criticism of the list mentioned the fact that several of the authors have been credibly accused of various heinous activities (this was shortly after the Alice Munro exposé, for example), to say nothing of the inclusion of, say, Junot Díaz—known misogynist and general creep—on the list of curators (and books). Personally, I have no issue with including works by awful people; the art is not the artist, and terrible people can occasionally create works of quality. However, I do take umbrage with the employment of shitty people in the curation process. The NYT didn’t disclose whether or not they paid these ‘literary luminaries,’ but that doesn’t really matter. When you’re talking about the art itself, it is not always necessary to mention the artist’s real or perceived faults; however, when you’re directly utilising the artist’s perspective and opinions for your own product, I think it is. So yeah, generally a very disappointing situation all around.
