I have several thoughts on My Beautiful Man...

If My Beautiful Man were a hetero Jdrama this would be completely unwatchable because a subservient weird & creepy guy[he's 1 step removed from being Kiyoi's stalker] and a woman is not a scenario that people would likely get behind, even if she were as into weird & creepy guy as Kiyoi is with Hira... I mean, the weird & creepy factor goes both ways here and that's really the only reason their relationship works, however Kiyoi is a secret creepy weirdo until you say something about Hira or try to bully him & then he's not normal... his mouth might say "Creepy" or "Stalker" but his body language, voice, and eyes say, "I love you, please don't stop being obsessed with me... I won't stop being obsessed with you." & I don't think this would work if Kiyoi were a woman, it is however one of my favorite BL series... and my controversial opinion is that I liked the stalker bit because when Kiyoi was kidnapped he legit told this guy that he & Hira were nothing alike because Hira is morally upright, only has eyes for him, cares more for him than himself, & Hira was much crazier than this nothing stalker & for me personally that was a really great scene because Kiyoi looked fuckin deranged himself while he was telling this douchecanoe how much crazier his boyfriend is... and then he looked like an absolute madman when he thinks his soulmate was stabbed, hysterically bawling and begging him not to die, and then they had to literally drag him away from Hira because he just wouldn't let go and then he was fighting them to get back to his side... I think it really emphasizes that Kiyoi, in some ways, loves Hira more than Hira loves him because he knows how Hira is and accepts him completely despite some major dissatisfaction in Hira not thinking he deserves to be loved by Kiyoi

Yeah, so I bawled. I mean it was easier than legit fic-producing mental breakdowns I had circa 2020 when he killed Jin, but god....the anime did well, I think. I am glad the gravity of this moment, in my opinion one of the MAIN emotional zeniths of Boku no Hero, was acknowledged by the anime as important (when we had a Viz translator who couldn't understand why Horikoshi would name the volume containing this fight "One's Justice"). I've written a lot over the years about this fight, but I want people to remember that in many ways the fight was allegory for a lot of issues that make up the human condition. Keigo's utilitarianism vs deontological thinking. The notion of duty vs friendship. Humanity vs abstract ideals of community and what is good for it. Individualism vs collectivism. It's all in that fight.

The fight is first and foremost there to make us question the meaning of heroism. From the start, Jin, the League's "hope", and so human that his name literally means "Humanity", represents the way people react to hurt and kindness in others, and how often we pick our friends by those who pick us first. The other tragedy of Twice is how often the mentally ill feel grateful for the tiniest crumbs of humanity people show us, to the point the friendships become transactional. One of Jin's fatal flaws was never believing himself worthy of love and friendship when he was so capable of giving it and showing it to others.

Keigo represents sacrifice, duty, and repression of humanity. In growing up in the extremes he has (abusive, sheltered family disconnected from society, to homelessness, to being raised as a child soldier by a government), he has been taught to suppress and weaponize his natural instincts to save and help, and justifies actions he doesn't want to do with ideals of the greater good. Hawks wants to be a good person, and much like Jin, has a need to prove himself worthy to people who were "kind" to him because he was denied freely given love and kindness from birth. It's why there was no one victorious in this fight. Jin dies, and Hawks kills a part of himself and loses the limbs that made him "worthy" in the eyes of society. It's a complicated scene. A round of applause for the anime for bringing it to us.

What was your favourite scene in S3? I loved the lake scene. It just wont leave my mind. I didnt cry during the whole series but when the lake scene came on I came so close!

You deserve a medal for not crying anon 😭 because I NEVER cry - I can count on one hand the number of shows that have made me cry, and I was bawling my eyes out when Wilmon were in the library & in so much pain.

I legit can’t rewatch the lake scene it hurts so much, like genuinely a cinematic masterpiece.

As for my favorite scene (it’s SO HARD to pick) - it has to be the last moment with Simon and Wille in the backseat, the way Simon can barely take his eyes off of Wille, the way they’re so full of love and finally together. And I love that Simon looks at Wille right before Wille breaks the 4th wall, like he’s telling Wille that it’s okay to say goodbye.

A close second is them making out after Wille joins the choir. It’s probably the happiest Simon is from E1-5.

Top 10 kdrama friendships that had me bawling

#10 - alchemy of souls : mu deok/bo yeon + the boys

the only reason this doesnt get a higher rating is because they just didnt have enough scenes together. it was always pretty secondhanded, like the boys helping her with her servant exam in s1, or scenes between seo yul and mu deok/bo yeon. however, their friendship was amazing, and just adore this show in itself.

#9 - doom at your service : tak dong kyung, na ji na and cha joo ik

okay, they weren't a trio, necessarily, but they had such a great friendship through indirect interaction. joo ik and dong kyung had such a wholesome excited little sister and passive older brother relationship. and dont even get me started on the cuteness that was the friendship between na ji na and tak dong kyung.

#8 - strong girl do bong soon : do bong soon and gyeong shim

i wrote about this in my review of strong girl dbs as well, and the friendship between gyeong shim and dbs was so cool because both women were willing to go to such lengths for each other. one of the lesser-highlighted friendships of kdramas.

#7 - crash course in romance : nam haeng son and kim young joo

it takes a lot to sacrifice your national sports for your friend, and young joo made that sacrifice like a pro. their friendship was so cute, a bit annoying at times, but cute nonetheless. they were there for each through the goods and the bads, and that's all we really ask for.

#6 - lovestruck in the city : lee eun oh, suh rin i and kang geon

why! are! they! not! talked! about! ultimate peak best friendship, no romantic subplots to this gang, absolute delights. everyone should give lovestruck in the city a try.

#5 - twenty five twenty one : the gang

how could i say friendship and not have these people. this gang singlehandedly and platonically had enemies to besties, childhood besties, sunbae besties and just everything. right in the feels.

#4 - weightlifting fairy kim bok joo : the trio + the boys

the 'swag' trio. every time they did the swag thing it made me cringe so bad but they were very cute. the rooftop scene was legit so cute and the addition of the boys was even better. nothing beats these weightlifting girls and we stan.

#3 - extraordinary attorney woo : woo young woo and choi su yeon

this was sosososososo cute. the way su yeon was literally always there for young woo. she couldve easily been a villain, young woo took the guy she had a crush on, was higher in grades and well known. had an influential background. such telltale signs of bad women in kdramas. BUT this amazing person really was so good with young woo and totally spring sunshine su yeon.

#2 - the fabulous - the gang

everyone seems to hate the fabulous. genuinely, come at me. i dont give a shit about cinematic art or marketing strategies or whatever, this is my opinion gonna stick to it. i ADORED the fabulous. their gang was so amazing, the definition of supportive, cute and somehow maintaining that joke around stuff. they had their little pairs in the middle as well, but that didnt take away the overall love. go watch it.

im a recent to hosplay bandwagon, but. i fell in love. finished the (almost) entire show in nearly a week, an achievement considering it's my finals rn. we've got the piggies, buddha who is catholic, the guy who knows everybody and his dad. it was the little things with them for me, really. when they called jeong won andrea like that was so cute. when jun wan called seok hyeong ik jun's dad it made me laugh so much. and the fact that they're really not that close when u think about it but they still are? like that is adult friendships and we love.

Totnt 1938 ! Episode 8- Getting my heart broken for Lee Rang again!

The past two episodes have been a freaking roller coaster for me and I feel like someone shredded my heart and then pushed it into a grinder. All because of my one boyy, Mr Lee Rang. He is making me cry every other day and I am just heartbroken for him. Every scene with him now reminds me of his fate in season 1 and I feel like bawling my eyes out. So let's talk about my love for him once again so that my heart might start feeling a little less heavy 🥺

My boy constantly thinking about how he won't get to live for long and then believing that the only reason Yeon is being good to him is because he feels guilty 🥺💔 And you know what the worst part is, the worst part is that it's true to some extent. Yeon's love for Rang right now is actually so dependent on the fact that he is dead in his timeline. I am not saying he did not love him before his death, but I believe that he obviously did not cherish him the way he does now before he was dead. Like, look at 1938 Yeon, he does not give a damn what's happening to his brother. Rang's position in Yeon's life has always been secondary and it was only his death which moved future Yeon to the position where he realised his worth and isn't that guilt talking then. The thought hurts me more than the much it should 💔.

Watching Rang breakdown because the world felt warm to him for the first time in his life. Watching him cry because he believes he was just a stain in the lives of his parents and his brother broke me. Watching him believe, he has no one to return home to. He is so broken and I can't watch it without feeling so hurt. He would distance himself from everyone so that his heart does not tickle anymore. When I tell you guys, I sobbed, I am not lying. I am really really glad he has yeo-hee now and I don't know what I will do if they take that away from him too.

This will never stop hurting me. 💔 This scene will forever stay with me.

3. Watching my boy gamble for a life span because he, too, wanted to live. My heart, at this point, is a broken shriveling mess. Him already being so deep in love that he wanted to see Yeo-hee once. I was not sold on their romance at first but goshh, I love yeo-hee. And the only reason I love her is because she is the first person to love my boy the way he deserves. I need them together. I need someone to put Rang first. I just need it. And no matter how much I wanted that person to be Yeon, we all know that Ji-ah is Yeon's 1st priority forever. One major difference between Yeon and Rang that I believe would remain true is that no matter how much Rang might love Yeo-hee, he will never forget the much he cares about his brother. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Yeon. 🥺💔

4. They replayed the freaking season 1 video clip. As if my heart was not already on the verge of death. They reminded me of one of the most heart wrenching moment in drama history that I have been through. And when Yeon asks Rang after the clip is played, if Rang can forgive him. My boy does not even care about that anymore, he is legit like ' forget about me 🤦‍♀️' he is more worried about why Yeon's life span is so short. I really need Rang to care about himself half as much as he cares about Yeon. Idiot self sacrificing little brother who has taken up permanent residence in my heart rent free 🥺💔

I am broken after the last two episodes. I don't know if the writers expect this to be bitter sweet or they expect us to just make peace with the fact that Rang will remain dead in the future. I don't know but I need my boy to live, have a love life, have a brother who cares about him as much as he cares about said brother. And I want This Lee Rang to have all that, not some reincarnated version who is not actually him.

It's like going to a friend's and having to leave cause their parents about to beat them back to heaven.

I keep seeing everyone blaming Prapai for not moving away from the guy who was pursuing him. Sometimes it's kind words and actions that make people back away instead of insulting them or pushing them away forcefully.

THE SCENE TO TALK ABOUT THE WHOLE SCENE I WAS SCREAMING AND CRYING FOR IT TO STOP.

There is a bit of conflict with this scene but looking from both sides I can understand why Pai did what he did. Was he right to enter Sky's dorm without his permission and look through his personal belongings. No. It was the actions of a desperate man trying to make sense of why he got his heart broken. Pai has always been someone who pushed and pushed until he got the answers. And why Sky was not giving him the room to explain or understand Pai's POV it's pretty obvious why he did what he did. And yes Sky was distraught at the idea of Pai reading through his journal and he asked it to be stopped but looking back I think Sky needed that push to understand that Pai was not playing and that he's in it for the long haul and that a few deeply hurting words isn't gonna push Pai away. Sky needs someone who would fight for him and with him to make him understand that Pai is not going anywhere. It's a bit of a grey area. But completely understandable. We are all humans and when emotions get the better hold of us we turn blind and let those emotions control us.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MEEEE?? you are HANDS DOWN one of my favorite writers EVER. the way you describe everything...you always use the most eloquent wording. you're like a visual artist, painting your vivid images in my mind so perfectly!

but listen. chapter 6? I SOBBED!! it wasn't just the story though...it's like when you hear a sad song with the most beautiful music and poignant lyrics. that's what reading chapter 6 was like for me...you moved me to tears with the way you conjured so much out of thin air. i felt EVERYTHING both sukuna and reader felt: the grief, the anger, the love, the fear, the uncertainty, the hatred, the despair, the anguish, the fury...you brought every single one of these emotions to life in 7k words. i felt that shit IN MY BONES.

not to sound like a copycat, but my fave is also Mikey 🤭!! 2k12 has a special place with me because it was my intro to the turtles, but 2k3 is phenomenal- also, the 2007 movie whenever i want Leo & Raph angst lmao. that rooftop fight scene in the rain 💔 hmmmm okay SO initially my fave pair was Raph and Mikey, but then in my most recent rewatch, i was like 👀 the Leo and Mikey dynamic sooooo maybe a tie between those two?? but also pretty much anyone with Mikey is a+. it’s so hard to pick. and this isn’t a pair necessarily, but donnie pov things where he’s like analyzing his role/relationships- i am an absolute sucker for those.

Ahhh that makes me so happy that you're also a Mikey stan! I have such fond memories of laughing while watching 2k12. I was sooo sad when Leo's original voice actor got fired and replaced though. His voice fit so perfectly with the other turtles. That's the one thing about 2k12 that makes me 😭. Well, that, and the season they spent most of in space. I preferred the NYC based seasons. But other than that, 2k12 was fun and angsty. Plus it had the cheese phone! *gasp* The cheese phone! Truly an emergency! It also had the scene of Tiger Claw trying to get Mikey, and Mikey just like... throwing himself off of the subway train or whatever the hell it was. Ahh that was a good season for some little Mikey hurt/comfort moments.

Ohh yes the famous Raph and Leo 2k7 movie fight. I'll be honest, I can't really stand the entire plot of that movie, and I also hate the fact that they cut the scene of Donnie telling Splinter he couldn't have any birthday cake bc of his health, and Mikey then sneaking Splinter a piece of cake 😭. 2k7 is also funny because it's Splinter being like, "Leonardo, you must go learn to be a leader by yourself in the middle of nowhere." And it's like, uh idk, sounds like he kinda needs a team to practice leading alksdja. Why did he even need to practice at all 😭.

Yeees the Mikey and Raph dynamic is stellar, and if you haven't read the IDW comics, I love the moments they have together in that as well. Lol now I'm thinking of that scene in 2k3 where Mikey was pretending to be hurt, and Raph was like, "What is it, Mikey?? I'm right here." And then Mikey just laughed at him ASLKDJA. Love when they annoy each other but also act soft/loving to each other.

I love Donnie and Mikey. They're the fun adhd/autism duo, and I love that some ROTTMNT stans refer to them as the smarts and crafts duo. Smarts and crafts 😭. That's so cute 😭. And yeees love Donnie POV things.

You stream it all the time?? Ahhh that's amazing. I actually have the complete novel version of the movie on DVD, I haven't watched it in a long time. I can't remember if it's the edited version or the novel version that has the shitty music 😭. You know what's funny though is that my phone ringtone is actually a song from the soundtrack. It's "Gloria" by Them and Van Morrison. Think it plays while Dally, Pony, and Johnny are walking to the movies and chase those little kids with the cards alsdkja.
