I like to think that Allura is still alive and a god now, she is also still dating Lance. Like yknow that one meme that is like " 'i can fix him' 'i can make him worse' well i can pick him up like this" that is them
i don't know why i'm getting voltron anons in the year of our lord 2024 but i am kissing you on the lips
look at his face when she does something cool, he would be INSUFFERABLE if she was a literal god

I decided I should draw a little mermaid au with Lance and Allura with Allura as Ariel because she loves shiny things and also that means her father can be alive in this au, and Lance as Eric because he loves mermaids and the ocean. And I wanted do the moment in the kiss the girl song when they are in the boat and the fish and birds are singing around them BUT I drew the mice instead. Also the fish are the colors of the lions (except the blue lion because they are mr and mrs blue lion SO fight me.) I also drew in the fireflies even though they don't happen at the same time as the fish fountains in the movie because I like fireflies. And Allura has her pointy ears and marks because, mermaid, and I said so. Thanks for reading<3

Talk to us more about Voltron in 2024
i can't believe you're FORCING my hand this way
is 2024 the year we finally collectively acknowledge that the allurance endgame WAS the most appropriate and satisfying one for these characters, and was nearly perfectly executed except for them killing off Allura for a bullshit twist ending?
because LISTEN. you're a boy, desperate to prove yourself but always feeling this side of not good enough. you're the youngest of a large family, always the baby, but never the leader. you get into your dream school, but as a cargo pilot--second string to the fighter pilots. you finally get a chance to move up to fighter pilot, but only because your crush this one fucking prodigy dude gets kicked out. you end up in SPACE, fighting a SPACE WAR, but in many ways, the least remarkable of even this elite group of people.
and there's a girl.
she's pretty, she's powerful, and she isn't even remotely interested in you. you want so badly to be noticed by her, and you get pretty embarrassing with your attempts to get her attention. because you aren't doing so out of a real interest in her as a person, but rather out of a desire for attention and prestige.
but as you go along, you DO start to get to know her. you see her flaws, her vulnerabilities. you see the weight of everything that is put on her, and her stubbornness, and her immense strength and resilience, and you find that more than anything, you want to help her. you want to help everyone, as it turns out--in finding your place at her side, not as The Hero or the Romantic Lead, but as the support, as the advisor--you find your place in the team. your love for her transforms--no longer is it about wanting What She Represents, but rather about wanting her, her pain and strife, her laughter and silliness, her strength and weakness.
when you finally get the chance to tell her what you feel, this is what you tell her: you are not alone. i want to be your family. my home is your home. i would follow you across the universe.
and LISTEN. you're a girl. your family, your friends, your entire species has been destroyed. you wake up after a 10,000 year slumber to find that everyone and everything you love is gone, and the people who did it have gone on to wreck the same devastation across countless civilizations. all you have are these five aliens--humans, you're told, from some backwater planet that hasn't even made it past the edges of their own solar system--and they're all you have in order to fight a war against the people who destroyed everything you hold dear.
you have to be a Leader, you have to tell them what to do, but you barely know what to do with yourself, let alone lead a war--an interplanetary resistance, eventually. and beyond all that, you have power, power you don't understand and can't fully control, and there is no one to guide you through how to use it properly, to teach you the secrets of this power and how best to use it for good, because that knowledge was lost with your people.
and there's a boy.
at first he's mostly important because he serves a purpose--he's a good shot, and he's necessary to the war effort as a paladin of voltron, and he can be charming when he isn't hitting on you. but as time goes on, you begin to see his dedication, his selflessness--again and again you see the way he sets aside his own desire for glory in order for the team to function. you see the way he spends hours in the training room, even when no one's around, honing his skills. you see the way he reaches out to others, boosting them up, even when they are cruel to him. and you see the way he reaches out to you, right when you need it most--time and again, when you are at your lowest, your most alone, he is the one who pulls you out of it. he is the one who convinces you that you can be strong when you feel weak; he is the one who tells you it's okay to make mistakes when you fail.
and when you finally get the chance to tell him what you feel, this is what you say: i'm not so alone when i'm with you. i need you. you are my strength.

romance can serve any number of functions in a story, but ultimately it's about the characters involved: demonstrating their growth, the way they change throughout the narrative both as a function of and reflection of their budding romance. Lance wants to be a hero and a leader, but he needs to learn that heroism and leadership require sacrifice and selflessness. Allura wants to be a Strong Leader and find a place where she belongs, but she needs to learn that strength requires vulnerability, and belonging requires trust. and they do learn these things, and grow as characters, through their love for one another.
it is some genuinely well done relationship and character building in a show that is pretty notoriously bad at both those things. and while yes, some of my love for this ship is certainly "best of a bad lot" -itis, there is an authentically compelling story there that fandom REFUSES to acknowledge for Reasons that include but are not limited to rampant racism and misogyny.
i will admit that it was kind of weird that the show ended after their love confession and absolutely nothing else happened after that, but oh well it could have been worse i suppose.
