Piercing Tips Masterlist

Hiya~!

Today’s list is on piercings. I currently have five (and want more), and I’d like to share some tips and tricks I’ve discovered for getting them, taking care of them, and all of that lovely stuff! :D

1. CLEAN EM. SERIOUSLY. AT LEAST TWICE A DAY. This is especially important if you have a cartilage piercing. Those take longer to heal and are more finicky, so you are more likely to have complications if you aren’t cleaning them (infections, scarring, bumps).

2. Make sure you follow your piercer’s aftercare directions. It’s for your own good.

3. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean your piercings. This is really bad for them and can dry them out too much. Instead, use some saline (salt water designed to mimic your body fluids). You can buy some, but making your own is much cheaper. Just take a cup of water and stir about 1/2 tsp of sea salt in until it’s dissolved.

4. Learn the differences between an infection, irritation, and a normal healing piercing. Obviously we aren’t all experts, so if you’re REALLY concerned, go see your piercer or a doctor. But there are a few key things to know:

- Your piercing is likely to be infected if: it’s swollen, abnormally warm to the touch, extra painful, red/purplish, and oozing YELLOWY GREEN or BROWNISH pus. There may also be a visible cyst or a pocket filled with pus. It is worth noting however that sometimes pus isn’t visible until the hole is opened (by turning the ring a bit). When my lobes were infected, they looked fine on the outside, but if I turned the rings a bit they would ooze. Nasty stuff. Generally you aren’t supposed to turn them, but if you’re suspicious, it can’t hurt to check.

- If your piercing is: swollen, reddish, a little sore (especially when touched), and has a bump or two, but is NOT pussy or warm, it’s likely just irritated. You may have bumped or torn it accidentally at some point, or you might be allergic to the metal. If you’ve torn it a bit, it may bleed a little.

- If you just got your piercing recently and it’s: bleeding a little, swollen, red, sore, and oozing clear/white/yellow liquid, it’s healing and this is all normal. If, however, you see signs of infection early on, get some help as soon as possible.

5. Bumps on cartilage piercings are not always scarring, keloids, or infection. Sometimes it’s just a little irritated. One thing that I’ve found really helps for bumps and swelling is to do warm saline soaks (fill a small cup with warm saline and dunk your piercing in for about five minutes or so). I often notice a difference the same day.

6. Cartilage piercings can be really tricky to heal. Some people’s just never heal. Make sure you see a doctor/piercer if you’re concerned and feel you may need to take it out.

7. On that note, DO NOT remove the jewelry until your body is fully (or mostly) healed. Your piercer will have specific instructions for this (if they’re good). And if you suspect you have an infection, DO NOT take it out. This can trap the infection inside of your body and cause complications, since the jewelry keeps the hole open so it can drain.

8. In cases where you have to take out jewelry, try not to leave it out for too long if you want to keep the hole, otherwise it may need to be re-pierced. Generally, the longer you’ve had a piercing, the longer it’ll stay open, but this won’t be the same for everyone.

9. Be gentle with new/infected piercings. Don’t touch it unless you have to, and don’t play with it. Be extra careful with your hair (for ear piercings, especially the helix). You’ll want to put it up when it’s wet because it can put painful pressure on your ear. Also be really careful when brushing/combing--catching a hoop on the tines of a brush is NOT FUN. If you’re getting your hair done professionally, don’t be afraid to mention to the hairdresser that you have a sensitive spot. That way they can avoid accidentally hurting you by bumping it. If you are a side sleeper and you have an ear piercing, get a really big sock and tuck one end into the other to make a donut. Sleep with your ear in the hole. It really helps and is more comfy than a travel pillow!

10. Most infections can be treated at home by doing saline soaks and/or hot compresses (wetting a washcloth and applying it gently to your ear). You can also try silver spray/drops, which is a powerful antibiotic.

11. However, if you have signs of a blood infection, like: a fever, upset stomach, and red streaks radiating out from the site of infection, see a doctor ASAP. You may need antibiotics.

12. Studs, in some cases, can be less irritating than hoops. If you’re having trouble healing a piercing, try switching to a stud.

13. Make sure you’re getting pierced with implant-grade metal (titanium, surgical steel, or niobium). Some people are prone to allergic reactions to other metals, especially nickel.

14. For the love of all that is good and pure, DO NOT PIERCE YOURSELF AT HOME. Please don’t. There are so many things that can go wrong, even if you think you’re doing it right (sterilizing, using an actual kit, etc.). Just because it worked for a Youtuber or your friend doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Piercers get lots of education on the proper methods of piercing certain spots. There are certain spots on your body where if you pierce it, you can hit a nerve and cause lasting damage or an infection. Please, please don’t. Getting it professionally done may be more expensive, but it’s better than having to pay massive bills for treating a nasty infection or having to deal with permanent nerve damage or scarring.

15. If you have blood sugar issues or fainting, you’ll want to be extra careful about getting a piercing because it can cause your levels to drop drastically really fast. Some piercers will offer you some juice or something to make sure your levels are high enough beforehand, but just to be safe, have something at home before you go. Make sure you let them know if you have any of these issues. It’s also a really bad idea to not eat before you go for this reason as well.

16. Don’t get a piercing impulsively. Do some research beforehand, and maybe even do a little photo editing to see if you’ll like it. The last thing you want is to spend lots of money to get a piercing only to realize you actually hate it on yourself. A piercing is also a hole, and it will most likely leave a scar of some kind, and some will be more visible than others.

17. At the same time, don’t get a piercing because someone else wants you to, or because everyone else is doing it. Get a piercing because you want to, and you think it’ll look good.

18. Make sure your piercer sterilizes everything properly in front of you. Do your research and make sure that the studio you go to is a good one. This can make a world of difference in terms of healing.

19. DO NOT get your piercings done with a gun. It causes way more shock to your body’s tissues, and they are very hard to sterilize properly. Trust me, a needle is a lot less traumatic.

20. Pain levels will be different for everyone. Obviously some places will hurt more than others. A general rule of thumb though is that soft tissue (earlobes, septum), will hurt less, and cartilage will hurt more. Healing time also tends to be longer for cartilage piercings. Try not to tense up during the procedure if you can, because this will make the pain hurt more. It’s usually only bad for a second or two though, so don’t worry!

21. If you get something that’s a little out there, some people are going to stare, and some people are not going to like it. Ignore them, and if they stare, just stare back and smile! A piercing is your own special form of self-expression, and no one has any right to judge you for it.

22. Whether or not you get a piercing is up to you, but there are a couple things you need to consider still--where you want to work and (don’t come after me please) if you’re still young, what your parents will think. Some workplaces don’t see specific piercings as professional, and having them could decrease your chances of being hired at a job. It sucks, and it’s not fair, but unfortunately that’s the way the world works at this point. :(

28. And as for your parents, generally if they don’t want you to get pierced, they are speaking for your own good and they have a legitimate reason for it. Generally for any body mods it’s a good idea to wait until you’re older anyways, because they are often permanent, and what you like and what you think looks good is going to change a lot as you grow up. Your parents are likely worried that you’re going to do something you regret, or that people will judge you because of it. It’s annoying sometimes, but parents often know best (they’re older and more mature), and thinking you know better than them can be really dangerous. It sucks, but it doesn’t hurt to wait until you’re a little older first. Besides that, going behind their backs to do something can really hurt your relationship with them, and tells them that you can’t be trusted.

On the other hand, if you aren’t legally a minor anymore, they don’t have a right to prevent you from getting one. It’s still worth considering the consequences though.

February/March 2019

NOTE: I have a habit of writing in several tenses at once. While my conscious mind does its best to reign this in, these subjects may occasionally call for a looser perspective so I’ve decided to let it happen organically ;)

I’ve always had a very close connection to certain numbers and number patterns, specifically strong is my relationship with “18″ or “118,″ so for much of my life I’ve consciously looked forward to living through the year 2018. It was a great year, looking back now, as I finished a momentous personal artistic project and finally took steps toward improving my mental health and gender dysphoria by speaking with professionals about getting prescriptions I didn’t realize I’ve needed for many years.

In the fall of 2018, for whatever reason, I felt an impulse to double down in October on fun spooky subjects. I have a great deal of free time, my work is usually freelance. October is my birth month and a popular month with many of my friends as it tends to celebrate the strange, and as I’ve grown into a young adult I’ve wanted to keep in touch with the ‘fun side of life.’ So this October I indulged in several youtube videos about cryptids. Several videos turned to dozens of videos and soon I found myself reliving a chapter of my life I hadn’t thought about in years; when I was in middle school I had a huge paranormal-investigative phase where I’d spend hours online on cryptid sites and forums, stoking the fires of what I assumed was a kind of beautiful expression of the human imagination. I remember thinking I didn’t care whether or not some of the creatures were “real,” I knew many were absolutely real to enough people who took the subject seriously and that was enough for me. I’ve always been incredibly sensitive to emotions and “vibes,” later I learned I could be described as an empath. Something about the way certain people talk about their experiences seemed to tell me they were not lying and had no reason to. Then puberty took over my soul for many years and I lost my focus to socializing over habitual sex and drug use.

In the summer of 2011 my closest childhood friend took his own life. We always had a very special bond and connection throughout our development and would sometimes even attempt telepathy with each other. The examples I remember, I would try too hard and it wouldn’t work, however we would have moments when neither of us were trying and a connection could be felt. In our late teens we had drifted apart from each other and I prioritized trivial things over our friendship. I still hold onto guilty moments of “what-if” and “I should have.” His remains a loss of eternal ripples for me. Only recently has the guilt seemed to gradually subside as I’ve made conscious decisions to move forward and continue living life. Over time I began to see some of the possible lessons he was teaching me through his decision. We’ve had many conversations and emotional reunions in dreams. It took me many years to feel fully comfortable with the idea of carrying on; I entertained thoughts of suicide almost every day following his passing for a very long time, frankly far too long. In 2017 I was taught traditions of transcendental meditation (which I have since admittedly fallen behind on in daily practice), and 2018 was a year in which I felt energies finally begin to shift. (What’s that about 7 years to fully replace your cells?)

So, we’re back to October 2018. I’m devouring youtube clips of ghosts and UFOs and bipedal creatures with a renewed interest, for no real “reason” other than it simply felt right and it was justified by the time of year. Certain horror movies and shows stimulated connections between spiritual subjects and metaphysics, significant connections toward which I’ve gently been nudged in various ways over my life. I watched Unacknowledged on Netflix where I was introduced to the Disclosure Project and Dr. Steven Greer. The argument was compelling and intriguing and I had to see more. I began making my way through the Disclosure Project’s witness testimony videos, first choosing the stories that interested me before watching as many as felt relevant. I began sharing my ‘secret passion’ with select friends who already know me to be a little looser than others when it comes to having a grip on what is established as reality. Many of them were bemused, if a little bit concerned for my well-being and mental health, but for the most part they listened with curiosity and respect. Some very close friends were not as receptive as others but I’ve come to learn that is to be expected. Throughout my life I’ve been a chronic over-sharer and I have a tendency to become overly excited about any sort of new revelation in my life. This 2018 paranormal revival was one of the first times I deliberately strategized in my mind about who I could talk to about the subject, the only other instance of this that comes to my mind is talking about my gender identity. I developed a way of bringing it up that feels light and jocular, allowing skeptics to smile and brush my words off as Me just being Me. I’ve always found great reward and fulfillment in fluid ambiguity; binary modes of perception can be unsatisfactory and inaccurate. Unfortunately I would come to learn that certain specific friends found my perspective to be extremely troubling and “not good enough” for “scientific argument.” Luckily this was not the majority, however please be careful of coming off as condescending if you choose words that tend to express more poetic/ambiguous concepts. If a friend does not understand you or feels that you’re being deliberately vague, they may feel like you are trying to push them away.

A few months pass and in late January my mind is brought back to the paranormal. I don’t remember specifically why, perhaps it was due to a series of dreams or a friend recommending that I resume making my way through The X-Files. I feel a great pull toward this chase. I feel daily compulsions to research these topics in earnest and I start seeing more and more connections between various paranormal topics and cryptid experiences. Eventually the connections become undeniable, I felt there was simply no way this many unconnected people would conspire to draw connections between topics like UFOs and the Sasquatch People without feeling in their hearts that it was true. I discovered this synchronistic bridge to be the most difficult for skeptics to swallow in terms of belief/comprehension. Even some close friends who once experienced a legitimate CE1 together (standing next to a totally un-phased pizza delivery guy, no less) expressed doubts when beings like Sasquatch People were brought up. This is all, to me, very understandable and forgivable. This research and spiritual work requires a great deal of patience. Even though our beliefs diverge at certain paths, there is still mutual respect and love.

Throughout February I dive deeper and deeper until I feel as though I’ve broken through the initial phase of fear and paranoia regarding coverups and conspiracies. Eventually my focus shifts from the aggressive mental atmosphere of Governments and their Falsehoods to the gentle mental atmosphere of People and their Truths. Through certain videos, I begin to feel tremendous love and warmth. Watching and listening to honest, loving accounts of Earth Human connections with Sasquatch People and Star Nations, I become suddenly emotional and will weep for several minutes, sometimes having to pause the video just to smile at the Universe until I can compose myself. I am profoundly struck by the words of Kewaunee & Kelly Lapseritis, Garret Duncan, and Su Walker & Rev. White Otter, along with the videos of research from Ontario uploaded by Mike Paterson and friend LeeAnn. I have been touched by the dictated writings of the P’onti who have been so generous with their outreach. I eagerly await further development! ♥

My Little June 6th Social Media Exchange

I’ve got a friend, a former teammate on a hockey team, who is fairly right leaning. I made a post on June 6th, the anniversary of the storming the beaches of Normandy, about my feelings on the Republican Party and their current state of true awfulness. He didn’t respond directly, but definitely threw down on his own so that I could see it. So I responded to him. Harshly. And this isn’t an exchange. I called him out, didn’t do anything other than to acknowledge there was a response that I ignored, actually multiple because I’m sure that I was mentioned by more than one other mouth breather, and then I doubled down. And now, because I am still mad, I’m making it public to my audiences.

My response to his shameless defense of the Republican Party and conservatism in general.

<My Dude>, on your side of the political divide there are unabashed racists. On your side, there are actual Klansmen. On your side there are actual, literal Nazis; we're talking "wir müssen die Juden ausrotten," Nazis. This isn't up for debate, either, this is absolute FACT. Now, and this is important, this isn't me being accusatory, but me pointing out the bare bones of the issue. These horrible people agree with you and your point of view. They are comfortable with you and your point of view. They *identify* with you and your point of view. They are comfortable with you and standing alongside you and supporting you and your perspective and your political point of view and everything you espouse. Actual f***ing Nazis are there with you, shoulder to shoulder. And this is an undeniable reality of irrefutable empirical evidence.

And all of this begs the question of pretty much anyone who might find themselves in a similar position, in a space where the most contemptible, most reviled, most deplorable, people can find comfort and sanctuary; "what does this reflection say about my values and what I believe?" If actual Nazis are on your side, and your first reaction is NOT to take a step back and ask yourself why they are comfortable on your side and not afraid to be beaten within inches of their life, you are in the WRONG. "Why are Nazis comfortable with me and being in my space?" The answer is, "I'm wrong about something, I need to figure out why and shut the hell up until I know exactly why." That's it.

Me? I'm pretty much okay punching them in the face, no questions asked, and leaving them on the ground bleeding. But that's me, and how I feel with the idea of actual Nazis being on my side...on June 6th...in the US of A. I am not a conservative or 2021 Republican so I don't have to make those decisions.

<My Dude>, take a moment. Take your step back. Take a look at things from the outsider perspective on things, both as they are and through the lens of history you keep saying you have. And then please reevaluate yourself. From where I see things, you are in the bunkers on that beach aiming your weapons at those landing vehicles, repeating to your brothers in arms how right those Austrian and Italian f***s in charge of their nations were and that it was and is worth killing and worth dying for to grow their ideologies, and standing in staunch opposition to those storming that beach in defense of democracy. You ARE on the side of Nazis now, how can you possibly believe or defend the idea that your would not have been 70 years ago?

Personally, I believe you are better than that, given a more lucid frame of reference then where you actually stand, as it is. But for now, it is what it is. It can't be stated more plainly; it is 2021 and you ARE on the side with the Nazis and you would have been 70 years ago, too.

As I said, there was a response. Maybe more than one. I ignored them. I posted this article (the transcript I used, and sources, are all below)

If you've read through this <article> and the source material, or at least given some of them a brief look, you'll know that the consensus definition of fascism in the sources says it hasn't *actually* existed after 1945, and I am inclined to agree. At most it has morphed into lesser versions espousing *similar* ideological tendencies. And that's my point in all of this. We've taken minuscule baby steps away from blatant racism as a foundation, but the idea that there are some who belong, and some who don't, while defined less clearly than the past, still exists, and that mentality still serves as a primary motivator for specific beliefs and even prejudices.

That said, <my Dude>, I read all of things you post that the algorithms of this site allow me to see regularly, and I can tell you, that through the scope of that version of neo-fascism outright predicated not on race but on the sense of some belonging, and some not, is reflected in all of your rhetoric CONSTANTLY. All the time. And maybe you believe it, or maybe you don't, that's not for me to say. But the fact remains that, as I said before, you are a vocal supporter on the side that has Nazis. You are on the side that this article basically breaks down as pro-fascist in its core beliefs.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by saying you're actually NOT of that mindset, but to look at just where you're sitting. The Germans have a saying that goes something like, "if you see a Nazi sitting at a table, and ten other people sitting with him, you see a table of 11 Nazis."

And my overall point remains unchanged; recognize the table you are sitting at, right now.

PS- I didn't bother to read yours, or anyone else's responses. You're sitting at a metaphoric table with those most ideologically aligned currently with 1930s and 40s fascism, along with modern Nazis, and I am calling it out, that's all. Any response, it either agrees and like me, are asking you to reevaluate, or they are trying to defend sitting at that table without such a reexamination, which isn't worth my time

What Is Fascism?

Since before Donald Trump took office, historians have debated whether he is a fascist (1.).

As a teacher of World War II history (2.) who has written about fascism (3.), I’ve found that historians have a consensus (4.) definition of the term, broadly speaking.

Given the term’s current – and sometimes erroneous – use, I think it’s important to distinguish what fascism is and is not.

+Race-first thinking+ Fascism, now a century old, got its start with Benito Mussolini and his Italian allies. They named their movement after an ancient Roman emblem, the fasces (5.), an ax whose handle has been tightly reinforced with many rods, symbolizing the power of unity around one leader.

Fascism means more than dictatorship, however.

It’s distinct from simple authoritarianism – an anti-democratic government by a strongman or small elite – and “Stalinism” (6.) – authoritarianism with a dominant bureaucracy and economic control, named after the former Soviet leader. The same goes for “anarchism,” (7.) the belief in a society organized without an overarching state.

Above all, fascists view nearly everything through the lens of race (8.). They’re committed not just to race supremacy, but maintaining what they called “racial hygiene,” (9.) meaning the purity of their race and the separation of what they view as lower ones.

That means (10.) they must define who is a member of their nation’s legitimate race. They must invent a “true” race.

Many are familiar with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime’s so-called Aryan race (11.), which had no biological or historical reality. The Nazis had to forge a mythic past and legendary people. Including some in the “true race” means excluding others.

+Capitalism is good+ For fascists, capitalism is good. It appeals to their admiration of “the survival of the fittest,” a phrase coined by social Darwinist Herbert Spencer (11.), so long as companies serve the needs of the fascist leadership and the “Volk,” or people.

In exchange for protecting private property, fascists demand capitalists act as cronies (12.).

If, for example, a company is successfully producing weapons for foreign or domestic wars – good. But if a company is enriching nonloyal people, or making money for the imagined subrace, the fascists will step in and hand it to someone deemed loyal.

If the economy is poor, the fascist will divert attention from shortages to plans for patriotic glory or for vengeance against internal or external enemies.

+Might makes right+ Important to most fascists is the idea that the nation’s “patriots” (13.) have been let down, that “good people” are humiliated while “bad people” do better.

These grievances cannot be answered, fascists say, if things remain under the status quo. There needs to be revolutionary change allowing the “real people” to break free from the restraints of democracy or existing law and get even (14.).

For fascists, might makes right.

Since for them the law should be subservient to the needs of the people and the need to crush socialism or liberalism, fascists encourage party militias. These enforce the fascist will, break unions (15.), distort elections and intimidate or co-opt the police (16.).

The historical fascists of Germany and Mussolini’s Italy (17.) extended the might-makes-right principle to expansion abroad, though the British fascists of the 1930s, led by Oswald Mosley (18.) and his British Union of Fascists, preferred isolationism (19.) and preached a sort of internal war against an imagined Jewish enemy of the state. What fascists reject

First and foremost, fascists want to revolt against socialism (20.). That’s because it threatens the crony capitalism that fascists embrace.

Not only does socialism aim for equal prosperity no matter the race, but many socialists tend to envision the eventual extinction (21.) of separate nations, which offends the strong fascist belief in nation states.

Along with getting rid of aristocrats or other elites, fascists are prepared to displace the church or seek a mutually beneficial truce with it (22.).

Mussolini, Hitler and the Falangists in Spain (23.) learned that they had to live with (24.), not replace, the church in their countries – as long as their regimes weren’t broadly attacked from the pulpit.

Fascists also reject democracy, at least any democracy that could potentially result in socialism or too much liberalism (25.). In a democracy, voters can choose social welfare policies. They can level the playing field between classes and ethnicities, or seek gender equality.

Fascists oppose all of these efforts.

+Fascism grows from nationalism+ Fascism is the logical extreme of nationalism (26.), the roughly 250-year-old idea that nation states should be built around races or historical peoples.

The first fascists didn’t invent these ideas out of nothing – they just pushed nationalism further than anyone had before. For the fascist, it’s not just that a nation state makes “the people” sovereign. It’s that the will of righteous, real people – and its leader – comes before all other considerations, including facts.

Indeed, the will, the people, their leader and the facts are all one in fascism.

I was struck by an uninsured driver on 02-10-11. Because the driver who struck me was uninsured I was forced to file a claim with my insurance company(Omni Insurance). The car was towed to CJ's collision at 6128 n beechwood Philadelphia, pa ,19138 on 02-11-11. Phone number 215-848-2836. On 02-14-11 Omni insurance sent out an appraiser to evaluate the vehicle. They then faxed an estimate on 02-15-11 totaling $5300 to CJ's collision shop. I went to the collision shop on 02-15-11 to sign paperwork giving them permission to work on my car. They then began the repairs. On 02-18-11 the insurance company then deemed my car a total loss. The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Altima SL with 96,477 miles. The NADA value for the vehicle is 10,995. According to Omni insurance a car is deemed a total loss when the repairs reach 70% of the value of the vehicle. Omni insurance valued my car at 7,415. They then proposed a settlement offer of 5826.40. They deducted 975.00 in prior damages(which I disagree with) and 1000.00 my deductible. The settlement offer included 386.40 in sales tax. After negotiating on 02-28-11 they proposed an offer of 7835.30. The value they gave my car was 9255. Again 975.00 was deducted and my 1000.00 deductible. They including sales tax and tags/registration fee in the offer. I accepted the offer out of desperation because they also stopped paying for the rental car I was driving on 02-28-11. I work, attend school and have a child my schedule requires that I have a car so I paid out of pocket for a rental car until 03-07-11, expecting the payment to be issued to my lien holder by then so I could purchase another car. I contacted them on 03-07-11 inquiring about my payment and was informed they did not pick the vehicle up from the collision shop therefore they were not issuing a payment. The collision shop gave them a bill of 1750.00 for the repairs they did and the storage fees. The insurance company disagrees with this and refuses to pick the vehicle up and issue my payment. They have also stated this may come out of my settlement offer. The insurance company already has the title to the car and all the necessary paperwork to the vehicle but refuses to issue a payment. It has been a month since I filed my claim and I can no longer afford to pay for a rental especially since it seems I will have to purchase a new vehicle. The insurance company is low balling me and also forcing me to pay for repairs they approved then backed out of.""

I'm almost 17 and I'm hoping to learn to drive and buy a car, I was looking on some comparison sites to see what the insurance might be on some possible cars (ford KA, fiat sciento, nothing too fancy) but the quotes were ridiculously high? I know being 17 will mean expensive insurance but this was really expensive, they said the cheapest was around 6000 for third party. This is really high because I know loads of people who drive at 17 and their insurance ranges from 1800-3000. So, why is it so high and will it actually be this price when I come to pay the insurance?""

Hello, I am trying to arrange vehicle insurance. I have contacted A&L with regards to their car insurance. Basically I have just changed jobs, where I had company cars for the last 6 years with no claims. I asked A&L if they would accept this as no claims, and they said they would if I could provide a letter from my previous employers stating dates, that I was sole user, that I no longer have policy and that it expires within last 3 months etc. I have provided them with the letter which covers all areas requested. They have now replied back to me saying that they can't accept the no claims, as I have 2 SP30 (Motorway speeding) convictions within the last 5 years, which means they will not accept the no claims. Is this acceptable? I though no claims were only relinquished if a claim in made against a policy, not because I have a couple of run-of-the-mill speeding convictions. Thanks in advance, James""

My car was hit while it was parked in my own driveway 4 days ago (in NY state). The police came and filed a report. I asked them for the other drivers insurance info, but they said I would have to wait for the police report and it would include that information. They advised it would be available after 5 business days at a cost of $5.00. I think the information should have been made available immediately so I could have filed a claim with the other person's insurance company. I don't suspect they will get rich by charging $5.00, so I don't know why I have to wait for the info. I am concerned that the other person's insurance will question the delay in filing the claim. Is this normal? I would really like to get my car fixed as soon as possible and am frustrated that I have to wait to get information that I think should have been immediately available. The driver that hit my car admitted to being on heavy duty prescription drugs at the time of the accident, but said that wasn't the cause of the accident. They said they had a seizure and had a documented history of seizures (which makes me think they shouldn't have a valid license anymore). The police seemed suspicious, but said they wouldn't issue any tickets as long as the person agreed to go to the hospital for treatment of seizures. I am not sure who is right on this one.... We bought a car in 12/11. We purchased gap insurance and an extended warranty at that time through the dealer. We decided to refinance the car through the credit union were we are members. The gap insurance was 1/2 the price we purchased at the dealer. The dealer and bank said that we should receive a refund. In the process of all of this the car was totaled by my 18 year old daughter in March. 1. We recieved a check made out to us from the dealer for the gap insurance.(pro-rated 4 months) 2. The dealer turned in the paperwork for us for the refund on the warranty and the warranty company sent it to the previous lein holder that we left. I don't understand why people act like health insurance is so radically differently than other insurance. Is it? Insurance is a form of risk management to hedge against loss. Auto, Life, Homeowners, Unemployment and Health are among the types of insurance you can buy. I'm generally not required to buy any of those insurances. If I have the title to my home, I'm not required to have homeowners insurance. If I don't drive a car, I'm not required to carry auto insurance. Why should I be forced to buy health insurance? If I want to take that or any gamble by not buying insurance, isn't that my choice? I will admit that by not purchasing health insurance, I could be putting a burden on others if I was admitted to the ER and couldn't pay, that burden of payment would fall on others. HOWEVER, that burden would be there whether I was forced to carry insurance or not. If I don't make enough money to buy this mandatory insurance, then the gov't will give me tax credits to purchase insurance. Who's paying for those tax credits? All of the tax payers.
