Another nightmare… Great. You groan, throwing a pillow over your face to block the sunshine that was now streaming in through the window, unintentionally rousing your lover.

“Oh my, morning already?” Clavis yawns, stretching out languidly like a big cat. You let out an unintelligible grumble, crossing your arms over the pillow covering your face.

“Well now, this won’t do. I can’t have a pleasant morning if you’re covering up my very favorite sight to wake to.”

Clavis’s long fingers slip between your arms, prying them apart. He doesn’t have to try very hard, all fight draining from your body at his gentle touch. Now all you could think about was drawing comfort from his warm embrace, and yet the events of your nightmare played through your mind again.

You don’t belong here. Who are you trying to fool, you’ll never be good enough to be at Clavis’s side. No one will ever accept you. You should give up and go back to your miserable life as a commoner and let someone deserving of Clavis earn his affection.

You shut your eyes tightly, trying to keep the tears back at the thought. You’ve been feeling this way for such a long time. Every moment with Clavis is pure bliss, his attentive love and penchant for mischief always had you on your toes but also kept you in a fantastic mood.

However, as is typical of a member of the royal family, Clavis was unable to be with you at all times. He had duties to attend to and this left you on your own in the royal court. Sure, there were things you could do to keep yourself busy as you awaited his return, but the most recent assignment your lover had been sent on had kept him away for such a long time, leaving you to wander the halls of the palace in search of some way to keep your mind off missing him.

You had overheard some noble women conversing, not so subtly, about how Clavis surely could find a more appropriate companion, someone who was born and bred for just such a role as the future wife of a member of the royal family.

You hadn’t stuck around to hear more, your worst fears confirmed. You were still not accepted and you feared you never would be, and Clavis would soon come to his senses as well and realize the same thing.

Cue the never-ending nightmares plaguing your sleep and your now uncomfortable position of explaining why you would feel the need to hide your face.

You brace for the pillow to disappear, but let out a small squeak of surprise as you feel Clavis move to straddle your hips, his hands running up your arms slowly and gently.

“Now then, how shall I enact my revenge? You’ve stolen my joyful waking moment by hiding your face, so you certainly must desire my attention be directed elsewhere,” Clavis purrs, his voice low and sensual.

You feel heat welling within your belly, despite the horrible things your mind was saying, your body was all too receptive to your lover’s touch.

“No.”

You hoped your curt answer would be enough to get him to let you have some time to yourself to recover from the nightmare… actually you knew full well that such a statement would have the opposite effect.

“My oh my, you’ve decided to be quite the spitfire this morning. To what do I owe the pleasure?”

Clavis swipes the pillow off of your face and freezes. His brows furrow and the corners of his mouth drop. He knows. Of course, he does. He’s not an idiot, he knows you better than anyone else.

“What has caused such a pained expression to mar your beautiful face so early in the morning, my dearest darling, light of my life?”

Taking a deep breath you sigh, “It’s nothing, really. Just some random thoughts messing with my head is all.”

“Ah, see therein lies the problem. Any thoughts making you feel less than wonderful are clearly not thoughts of me, and therefore you merely need to direct your attention to the handsome man before you,” Clavis chuckled, his eyes not matching the joyful tone of his voice. He was trying to distract you, he wanted to see you smile.

“You’re right, how foolish of me,” you reply, turning your mouth up in a light smirk while you communicated your true feelings through your eyes.

“Mmm, foolish indeed.” Clavis affirms, leaning down and pressing gentle kisses around the edges of your lips. His warm breath fills your senses, his rich comforting scent bringing an overwhelming sense of peace to your mind you reach up and loop your arms around his neck and pull him close. You don’t want to give up his calming effect on your heart and press your lips firmly against his, sighing contentedly as your kiss is returned with fervor.

Clavis leans his head back just slightly, gazing down at you with such warmth and tender love in his golden eyes.

“I love you with my entire being. I can’t imagine anyone else at my side, nor have I ever tried. You alone have tamed this beast and you alone have the right to claim this place beside me.”

His hushed voice fills your ears and eats away at the negative thoughts spinning through your mind. You feel tears beginning to pool in the corners of your eyes as he rectifies the lies you’d been telling yourself with the deadly precision of an expert hunter. 

“I feel like I’ll never be fully accepted,” you whisper, feeling your voice crack slightly.

“Ah, then that makes two of us!” Clavis chuckles, brushing the back of his hand against your cheek before leaning in and capturing your lips in a brief kiss.

“You see, being the son of a maid doesn’t exactly lend itself to being accepted. That and it seems that not all nobles enjoy my brand of humor.”

Another kiss, and another.

“What do you say we be unaccepted together? If we both do it, they won’t have nearly as much fun trying to make us feel unwelcome. You’re my home, I want nothing but you and if they hurt you, they hurt me. I can’t exactly have nobles around who are willing to hurt a prince, now can I?”

“Clavis! Please tell me you didn’t do anything rash—” you scold, cut off as he buries his face against your neck and swipes his tongue against your skin.

“Nothing of the sort, the trap was meticulously planned with a very clear message to respect the prince’s decisions,” Clavis hushes, catching your skin between his teeth gently before suckling a deep red mark into existence.

“Haah… Clavis, you’re such an awful man…” You moan, letting your head fall to the side, eyes falling closed, and allowing him better access to your neck which he happily takes advantage of.

“Ah, but I am your awful man, so you’ll have to try harder to quell this terrible behavior I think.” His low voice purrs into your ear and sends a shudder through your body.

His hands move freely, gently stroking every inch of skin they can come into contact with until it seems he has himself far too riled up to hold back any longer.

“Might I enjoy my second favorite thing to wake up to in the morning?” He asks, speaking the words between kisses.

Your head is becoming light and the knot of desire tightens as you feel Clavis begin to maneuver his body lower, his hands kneading the flesh of your thighs and a satisfied groan rumbling in his chest.

When you let your eyes blink open again, you’re met with an intense desire reflecting in pools of molten gold. You nod your head slightly, taking in a sharp breath at the way Clavis’s eyes flare with hunger and his tongue darts out to lick his lips.

His body slips down from yours, his weight settling on the mattress between your legs as he begins kissing and sucking at the skin of your inner thighs. By the looks of the snow outside, you’re guessing it’s the heavy stuff that’ll stick to the roads and form dangerous sheets of ice all across Rhodolite. It’s the perfect weather to build a snowman, as Clavis pointed out a few hours ago with that smug grin on his face.

The memories of your last snowman together are still fresh in your mind, and although the poor thing would have cursed the both of you until the day you died for the features you bestowed upon it, Clavis’s joy had been infectious. He even managed to get Cyran in on it, which spawned a massive snowball fight in the gardens.

That was the day Clavis took a hit for you. Cyran pelted him continuously even after he dramatically went down, completely ignoring you until you threw a snowball at his head to get him to leave Clavis alone. The equally as dramatic Cyran didn’t let that slide, making jabs at you every hour afterward for your betrayal on the field.

Clavis kissed you like you were the only thing that mattered when he finally got you alone, the two of you wrapped up in a blanket in front of the fireplace. It was a kiss that warmed you up from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.

However, it seemed like this year would hold no fun wintertime activities. Clavis had sent out a warning for the kingdom that the amount snowfall was now considered dangerous, and that people were to not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

And you, as the person who would rule by Clavis’s side one day, were no exception, no matter how badly he wanted the two of you to be.

“Waiting for me, my love?”

A familiar voice croons in your ear as familiar arms sneak around your waist. You murmur a soft hello as he rests his chin on your shoulder, staring out at the kingdom from the window.

Rhodolite has always been such a beautiful sight to you. But now that you’ve gone through what it’s like to be Belle, explored the neighboring nations, and experienced the princes at their worst and best, you have a new appreciation for the view. It was hard fought. The kingdom’s peace may not be as stable as you would like it to be at the moment, but with Clavis as the newly appointed king, you have faith that one day he will bring your shared dream to fruition and make sure every single life is saved.

You sigh deeply when you realize which direction Clavis is taking you, the route all too familiar for your late-night snack runs and your quality time with Yves. He’s taking you to the kitchen, and honestly you don’t know why they’re still letting him there but you’ll be damned before you turn down your loving boyfriend’s cooking.

Ha! You just called the King of an entire kingdom your boyfriend! It makes you giddy, so giddy a giggle slips past your lips. Clavis doesn’t miss it.

“Oh, I would be excited too if I were you! Each dish was carefully crafted with you in mind, my love.” he throws open the kitchen doors with flourish, and you’re mostly surprised that there’s no one else there and not that he made you an entire buffet.

Ah...the chefs must have heard of his plans and ran.

“Clavis...are all of these foods bunny themed?” you ask softly, taking note of the googly eyes and horns that Leon had correctly identified as bunny ears all that time ago.

“Of course they are. If we can’t have fun outside, then we will have fun inside.” he beams, and you feel your heart fluttering in your chest.

He did all of this for you. You’re so lucky.

“Thank you. I love you.” you smile back, hooking your finger under his tie and yanking him into you.

The hand you press to his chest as you two share that kiss proves that he loves you just as much. With how powerfully his heart is beating, it’s not like there’s any room for doubt.

(I had this idea of what if Lelouch and Light traded series, like what if Lelouch got the Death Note in Death Note and Light obtained a Geass in Code Geass and I had some surprisingly concrete ideas.

-Lelouch would immediately make the Shinigami Eye deal, he doesn't believe he deserves to live in the paradise he will create so he'll definitely do that to make it easier and would probably do any other self-sacrificial thing his Shinigami suggested because that's the kind of guy he is.

-I don't know why but I am fixated on this idea that Light would be in a fake relationship of convenience with Milly, like both are people of high status who need a relationship for their cover and there would kind of be this unspoken loveless transactional factor to them being together in public and then not giving a shit about each other in private that Milly would kind of resent but Light would be fine with.

-Light would probably actually be a pretty good Knightmare Frame pilot, he has a similar level of intellect to Lelouch but is far more athletically inclined so he may not be a freak genius at it like Kallen and Suzaku but he'd probably be pretty good, BUT he'd also not be as willing to be on the front lines as Lelouch and would probably set up more dummy systems and decoys to make it look like he was there when he's really controlling things from far away like a computer game.

-Lelouch would be far less willing to use the Death Note on people just doing their jobs like cops hunting him and stuff, this'd probably help him out in the short term as there won't be a bunch of cops dropping dead when they come to investigate him and he won't draw L as quickly because he doesn't have the instinctive drive to draw L in for daring to challenge him but it will make some decisions more complicated if fate forces his hand on some of these choices.

-Light would loophole the shit out of Geass like instead of direct commands he'd make the whole school sleeper agents to activate a specific action when he does a random innocuous thing, Lelouch got up to some creative implementation of it but Light's more about testing the boundaries of rules and once he realizes he can only use it once per person he'd get as many pawns in his local vicinity as possible to make getting caught less likely.

-Lelouch would probably use the Death Note more strategically and selectively, targeting specific heads of state and basically enforcing a "Super Geneva Convention OR ELSE" policy specifically targeted at systems of oppression within governments instead of the general idea of "bad people" and probably go for a more top-down approach by demanding better social policies from the world at large.

-Suzaku would probably generally be gullible enough to fall for Light's good guy act, like it would take some serious plot twisting to actually get him to suspect Light because he's just a lot better at dissociating and pretending he's on a completely different wavelength than the terrorists of the story but if he ever did catch up with him you could imagine how merciless he would be to Light's arrogant god schtick, man would not be getting the same mercy Lelouch did.

-L would have a hard time getting a read on Lelouch because Lelouch doesn't have any pride in his plans and wouldn't purposely fuck up to draw L closer like Light did, it's entirely possible depending on the level of police surveillance available they'd eventually catch Lelouch slipping since he's not quite as meticulous as Light but they'd have a lot less to go on, though if L ever does catch a whiff Lelouch probably doesn't have the same kind of charisma and psychopathy to ellude L the way Light did.

--- What do you think? I liked the other two previous Rolos' lines better in the sense that these are a bit... too similar to what he already says during the episode? I mean, "I became human" works once, but if he's going to say it 3 times or so, it would have been nice if he was more specific and recalled a moment when Lelouch was kind to him or a memory where he made a new observation. Lost Stories has previously referenced the Illust Dramas, so referencing Turn 19.02 would have worked too.

What I hope for is that now that Rolo has "redeemed himself", he can actually show up a bit more during extra events, and maybe receive another alt? Getting to know how he felt about Lelouch buying clothes for him was so cute and also showed us a side of him we hadn't seen before! I believe Lost Stories is much more successful than Genesic Re;Code and that the app still has years before it closes down, so sooner or later he should be included somewhere again. Euphy got at least one alt during an event which took place after she'd died in the story, so it's not like he can't be used anymore.

5 reasons why Kagino doesn't work (and 3 reasons why Kalulu does)

I was planning to prepare the small analysis of the final scene of the last episode of the first season, but, given the latest events that have occurred on my other Code Geass page, I decided to postpone it and work on a publication that I had planned for the future: explaining why Kagino is the most forced ship in Code Geass, besides Lelouch and CC in the infamous movie Lelouch of the Aberration (you will know it as Lelouch of the Resurrection). Also why Kagino is one of the worst ships in Code Geass. Please note that I use the term ship because this is a fandom pairing. Gino was never a love interest for Kallen and vice versa, according to official material (including the series).

1.It's a forced ship. This ship was invented by the Newtype magazine, which was ProCluClu, after they tried to do the same with Xingke and the ship had no support. What is the need to promote this ship? Kallen was becoming too close to Lelouch for the liking of CluClu fans, so it had to get her rival out of the way, and what better way for her heart to have an owner other than Lelouch? Actually, there could be other ways, but even the CluClu shippers saw the chemistry and sexual tension between Lelouch and Kallen. She was a threat, from their point of view. I have emphasized this because ""coincidentally"" the CluClu shippers are the only ones who pair Kallen with Gino (yes, I'm seeing that they are realizing that they are losing credibility due to their bias, so they are trying to hide what they are pretending they are Shirlulu or Kalulu shippers; they clearly don't understand what they are doing wrong, right?). The other 0.0002% are people who ship them because they believe that CluClu is canon and Kallen is alone and deserves someone to take care of her heart, but, as Miley Cyrus said in her powerful song, Kallen can buy herself flowers, ask herself to dance, telling herself things that only she understands, holding her own hand and loving herself and being happy.

Kallen is a romantic interest of Lelouch. You can see their relationship develop and take on a romantic nature as the episodes go by in R2. There is a narrative construction. Unfortunately, I won't be able to track their relationship here since that requires a separate analysis.

2. The "other reasons" that accompany this ship are superficial. The ship background that I expressed above is the real reason. There are no other compelling reasons to pair Kallen and Gino apart from the fact that they are both handsome, the same age, they exchanged a few words, and they are Knightmares pilots. Still, for CluClu shippers, those reasons are enough to prove that they are "soulmates." It's complete nonsense. You have work colleagues or study partners and your mother or your friends or your teacher or your boss aren't matching you with any of them, right? Furthermore, Suzaku also meets these requirements and no one is pairing him with Kallen (for the record, I find this ship interesting; but I don't think it works in the context of the series either).

My point is that just because two people are contemporary, attractive and (more or less) doing the same job doesn't mean that they are each other's ideal partner or that love will arise between them. Love is a spontaneous and free thing, which brings me to my next point…

3. Gino and Kallen have no romantic attraction for each other or sexual tension. The biggest "evidence" there is in favor of this ship and surely what started this nonsense was a comment Gino makes in episode 9. But, far from demonstrating a romantic interest or sexual attraction for Kallen, it shows that the fandom has problems of reading comprehension. Let's see, read the comment: "Anya: This is the ace of the Black Knights. The pilot of the Guren. Gino: Yes, the one from before. She is much prettier than the wanted poster of her. "That's my kind of woman!" What does this tell us? 1. That Gino recognizes that Kallen is pretty. 2. That the type of women Gino is attracted to are pretty. There is a big difference between "I like women like you" and "I like you." Just because you appreciate a person's beauty doesn't automatically mean that you like him, that is orthodox and childish thinking (this makes me think of men with fragile masculinity who refuse to admit that another man seems handsome to them because they think they would look like homosexuals and they have been made to believe that masculinity and homosexuality don't go together). Even more important is Kallen's reaction, when he makes the comment: she just turns away. She doesn't smile or blush. Zero interest.

This is very different from what happens between Lelouch and Kallen. She does react to Lelouch's comments, no matter how minor they may be. Like this double entender in episode 5. "Kallen: Are you talking like Zero or Lelouch right now? Lelouch: It's not like everyone knows about our relationship, right? Kallen * blushes *: Stop saying weird things like that, okay?"

Just a few days ago I read a phrase on Twitter (or X) that said that the moment preceding the kiss was even more valuable than the kiss itself. That's where you find the so-called sexual tension and Lelouch and Kallen had two moments like that. Three, if you want to tell the dialogue that preceded the kiss in episode 22. I will go into more detail about the kiss and the two almost kisses of Lelouch and Kallen the day I'm going to talk about those things from theory. In fact, I don't want to stop to examine the romantic relationship between Lelouch and Kallen like I said.

Gino and Kallen never flirted or had intimate moments. At most, they only poked each other in the last Picture Drama, but it was a display of friendly rivalry. No other thing. Pretending that that never happened, there is one moment in particular that I want us to review, as I consider it crucial to explain why this ship doesn't work:

4. Gino didn't accept Kallen because of who she is. At some point in episode 17, Gino is looking for Suzaku and went to visit Kallen in her cell believing he was there. Instead of leaving, he shows her the photo album he was originally going to show Suzaku and they start talking about him (did I tell you that it makes more sense that Gino would be more romantically interested in Suzaku than in Kallen? I'll tell you again, so). The conversation changes and Gino starts talking about Kallen.

"Gino: I understand that you are half Britannian and half Japanese, right? If you chose the name Stadtfeld instead of Kouzuki, you could have a good life, right? Even become one of the Knights of the Round if you have such ambitions. Kallen: Is this going anywhere? Gino: What I mean is, wouldn't you like to come back to us, Kallen?" What is wrong here? That Gino doesn't understand nor is interested in understanding why Kallen chose to embrace the cause of the Japanese and the Black Knights. Instead, Gino brazenly advises her to abandon everything and join them since life is much more comfortable fighting on Britannia's side (this is the kind of flippant comment that comes from the mouth of a person who is in a position of privilege, if you ask me).

Gino doesn't realize that Kallen's motivations for fighting are tied to her principles and ideals. Therefore, this is like asking Kallen to give up who she is: an ally of justice, a patriotic woman, and a defender of freedom. This reflects a clear disinterest on Gino's part and this is a problem because you can't love someone without knowing them and accepting them for who they are.

This is in stark contrast to Lelouch. While Gino asks Kallen to turn her back on her beliefs, her values, and the people she cares about (the Japanese and her family), Lelouch prefers to push Kallen away from him rather than force her to give up her principles and her life for him because, for Lelouch, Kallen's well-being and integrity are much more important than being together. This is the true definition of love.

5. Gino and Kallen don't share principles. A couple doesn't have to be two conjoined twins. They may have different tastes, ways of thinking, preferences, interests, hobbies… If they truly love each other, they will learn to adapt to each other because one doesn't really change who they are for another person. But a couple needs to have, at least, the same values, ideals and life plans (I would add, also certain beliefs). Otherwise, it will be difficult for this relationship to prosper.

Gino is a Knight of the Round and has been an active collaborator in the conquest and colonization of independent nations. He clearly agrees with Britannia's expansionist policy. He has no problem with imperialism or colonialism. Kallen, on the other hand, belongs to the largest insurgent group fighting against Britannia and fighting in the name of freedom, justice and equality. She detests colonialism and imperialism due to her own experience, so she disagrees with expansionism. These discrepancies would prevent Gino and Kallen from having anything (that is, they wouldn't even have been friends).

Only Gino showed some empathy with Kallen, when Lelouch killed the Emperor and usurped the throne, claiming that he finally understood what it feels like to have another come to take power illegitimately and arbitrarily. However, a coup d'état is not the same as colonialism and, of course, this doesn't mean that Gino will change his principles. Only he's going to have a just reason to fight (finally). It would have been better if Gino had apologized to Kallen, but that was an act that required a great deal of effort.

Lelouch, for his part, is a rebel at heart like Kallen. He may have lied about many things, but he genuinely believes in the ideals that he has preached as Zero and Kallen welcomed them as her own because they fit her values, which are no different from Lelouch's. It's not a coincidence. There is a small parallel between the dramatic situation of the Japanese and that of Lelouch and Nunnally. They were all dispossessed of what they had, including their identity, and forced to live as strangers in their land. Therefore, Lelouch and Kallen are more compatible. Even if they hadn't met in Shijunku, sooner or later their paths would cross over their hatred of Britannia, their contempt for the empire's Social Darwinist ideology, and their desire to change the world (well, this desire would germinate in Kallen once she met to Lelouch who, in turn, would obtain it as soon as he received the Geass).

The same can be said about Lelouch's other ships, by the way. Shirley wants to be a loving wife and have a happy family, CC wants to die (at the end of the series, she is focused on living every small moment of her life to the fullest just like Jamie Foxx's character in Soul) and Suzaku wants to change.the system from within. I won't enter the swampy terrain of reviewing the ideals and values of these characters. It's not my goal.

In conclusion, Gino and Kallen don't stick with glue or tape. Lelouch is emerging as a more worthy suitor, despite everything. And, therefore, Karen-chan only has eyes for him. Kalulu is better.

PS: of course, a fanfic could correct all of these things. But I don't think it even exists and I'm focusing only on the series, too.

KALLEN KOUZUKI (CODE GEASS) (CW Mind Control Mention)

1.) Kallen is constantly subjected to objectification. Most of the times she pilots her mech (giant robot), she's in this gratuitous shot of where she's bent over and it shows her ass or her boobs, and none of the men are subjected to this position or shot when they pilot. When she finds out that Zero (the leader of the resistance who she loves, respects, and follows) and Lelouch (a Britannian (the people occupying her country) who's her classmate and who she doesn't particularly like) are the same person and also that he has one-time-use-per-person mind control powers, instead of being conflicted about both her feelings and Lelouch being Zero in the first place and, y'know, THE MIND CONTROL, the next time we see her after she learns this (granted, after a time skip of a few months) she's just still in love with him and has no reservations about following him or, y'know, HIS MIND CONTROL POWERS. If she had any reservations or trust issues or mixed feelings, she dealt with them off screen during the time skip between season 1 and season 2. Because she has to be part of the show's harem nonsense, you see, god forbid her screen time and feelings about Zero/Lelouch once she knows he's Zero be mainly about HER or EVER stray from positive and romantic. And her character's focus/screen time at this point shifts from being about Japan (her home country) to being so much (albeit not entirely) about Lelouch and her feelings for him, and she's still a great character and one of the best pilots on the show but COME ON. And then so much of the official and gacha game art has her with this blushing waifu face that isn't reflective of the core of her character at all, and it's just like. why. why would you do this to her when it just makes your story worse. Like, Kallen's treatment takes the show's ranking down from A to A- all by itself.

2.) Wants liberty for her nation is a talented mecha pilot yet the ungodly sexualisation doesn’t do her justice at all. Also gets swept under Main Character’a Harem

CHI-CHI (DRAGON BALL)

1.) okay so to start at the beginning, she was introduced as a young kid but they put her in a super revealing bikini styled outfit. pretty sure it was supposed to be armor too, so besides just being a disgusting design choice even in-universe it's impractical. but besides that she was pretty charming as a kid, she was cute and funny and pretty tough, and had a cool gimmick in her blade/ laser helmet. even when she reappeared in late Dragon Ball, she was a bit abrasive but was overall rational and kind. she was strong enough to make it into the World Martial Arts Tournament, one of only 16 to qualify.

but come Dragon Ball Z and on, she's reduced to just a shrill, nagging, aggressive wife and mother. all she gets to do is cook, worry, and berate her husband and sons. her physical strength is only used so she can comically hit Goku. sure its played for laughs, but he's shown to be afraid of her. I only recall her leaving her house once or twice in DBZ. just the worst mother character stereotype, with nothing left to make her likeable. she's portrayed as irrational but despite her aggressiveness, half the time her wants are completely reasonable. can't blame a woman for not wanting her husband to die every other day!! her writing us ass but I still love her and she deserves better!!!

2.) So in Dragon Ball she wasn't the BEST character to start out with. Toriyama hasn't ever been the best at writing women or not making stupid fucking sex jokes about them. So she had to deal with that. The outfit she wore as a kid was… NOT GREAT. Let's say that! Then in late Dragon Ball her entire character revolves around Goku and trying to marry him, which she gets by tricking Goku and getting beaten by Goku in a tournament in one hit. Not off to a great start. Then Z started and Toriyama just… gave her an ENTIRELY NEW new personality, and that new personality was just a stereotype of a tiger mom. Regardless of how correct she might've been about letting Gohan fight (and she WAS completely correct, he was 5-6 for a HUGE chunk of Z) the narrative frames her as a hysterical and unreasonable woman nagging at the menfolk and not letting them do things. So naturally people hate her without even considering why she's upset because the story itself frames her as in-the-wrong. The whole franchise also just forgets that she's a martial artist and never has her DO ANYTHING.

This is only scratching the surface, there's a LOT more because the franchise is like 40 years old and we'd be here all day.

3.) GODDDD okay so full disclosure i guess shonen is such an easy pick but like. out of every shonen wife she was and is THE most hated by the narrative and creator (maybe tied with sakura omfg). shes always made out to be a beast, got her fighting skills shafted after she got married, was always played like she was hysterical for worrying about her kid dying in battle, and not to mention the creator actively HATES her. like toriyama just straight up hates writing her. its bad. its really bad. shes just "bitch wife" but for no reason :(

So! Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, huh? Took me five years to get to it. I do not know what I expected. This was not nearly as bad as I feared but also not as good as I hoped. I guess I'd say it's good as a movie for huge Code Geass fans, but it also kind of walks back some of the core ideas of Code Geass as a series, so Hm.

Like, ok, let's just start with the premise. The very idea of Lelouch coming back to life after the end of the series (or rather the alternate continuity to the series as presented by the Lelouch of the Rebellion compilation movies), is already a bit wonky. If Code Geass works on any level *thematically,* it's because Lelouch, as the 99th Emperor Britannia, dies. He dies not because it's necessarily the right thing to happen to him *morally,* but because he knows he has so much blood on his hands that he can't live with himself. It's suicide-by-Suzaku. That's how the original series ends.

Here, of course, he is just back. In of itself, that would be fine, but everyone is SO accepting of it SO quickly. There's a couple quick scenes of Kallen crying over him and Suzaku beating the ever-loving shit out of him (he deserves worse honestly), but for the most part everyone is completely happy to start taking orders from History's Greatest Monster again. With some of these people, like Cornelia and even his own sister Nunally, this kind of strains credulity. Especially with how the latter goes out of her way to exonerate Lelouch of any wrongdoing and blames herself for not truly understanding her brother's motives. I'm sorry, like, I've seen the show. That's just kind of bullshit. Lelouch's motives were *extremely* selfish and the fact that he never told Nunnally what he was up to was kind of the whole point, he didn't respect her as an equal, and just thought of her as someone he needed to protect. Due to, you know, pick one; misogyny, a generally privileged upbringing that may have rubbed some concept of noblesse oblige into him, ableism, the fact that he's a smug bastard who assumes he knows better than everyone, etc.

The unfortunate thing about the movie, though, is that Lelouch Lamperouge is cool as shit and it's really fun to watch him do anything.

Where it gets brought back, at least for me, in spite of all these flaws, is that I do just pop when Lelouch is on-screen Doing His Thing. C.C. has a fantastic little exchange with him when he gets discouraged late in the film where she talks about how she wants to see the arrogant, unwavering Lelouch. That's a good moment and it's pretty in keeping with their relationship, but it's also a sly nod toward the fourth wall I'm pretty sure. Unfortunately, to some extent, I will just watch this fucking bastard with his fucking hair and his fucking cloak and mask and his fucking violet shoujo manga-ass eyes and his fucking fruity little hand gestures whenever he talks, play everyone like a fiddle yet again while making grand pronouncements and saying "checkmate" unironically when he's got someone cornered even though no one has ever played a game of chess on-screen in Code Geass that made a lick of sense.

There are certain characters that just have such unreal amounts of charisma that watching them do basically anything is fun. (The voice acting in this thing is magnificent, of course, and helps sell that. I'd listen to Fukuyama Jun read a phone book.) Lelouch is one of those. If I'm any Code Geass character in spirit, it's Tamaki. Any time Lelouch puts on the Zero mask I scream and point at the screen and go "that's my man right there!!" like we're close personal friends or something. It's a disease, and I have to live with it. God forbid I ever get super into UC Gundam, I don't know WHAT I'd do if I ended up being like this about Char.

Everyone else returning from Code Geass proper has at least one really good moment, too. Kallen, Suzaku, and C.C. predictably get the best of them and the new characters that are introduced as their antagonists are, at least, very strong. The way the middle east is portrayed in this movie is WILD problematic, but a side effect of how Code Geass tends to write its antagonists is that at the very least the antagonist characters here have actual, like, human motives, and Lelouch's opposite number Shamna is a worthy foe; he does of course beat her but it's really down to the wire. Lot of good mecha fights in here, too, with Kallen and Suzaku both getting a lot of good screentime doing what they do best. There's more CGI than I'd like (CGI can work very well in a mecha anime IF the mecha are designed for it, but Code Geass' largely were not and you can tell), but not enough that it saps the movie of its dynamism, so, full marks there.

And then there's the ending of the movie which, hmmm. Basically, indirectly, the film makes C.C. x Lelouch canon, and in the postscript they seem to have formed a Geass Master power couple (complete with a very sharp gothic lolita look for C.C. that is absolutely fabulous. Lelouch's new outfit in that sequence is pretty snazzy too). I know Suzululu was always the more popular pairing (at least I've always gotten that impression), but I think this actually mostly makes sense, and I think they look good together. OTOH, Lelouch---sorry, he's going by L.L. now---seems like the sort of person who has a lot of different people in his life without necessarily being *totally* bound to any one of them. Maybe that's my own polyamory coloring the text, but it didn't feel exclusionary to me.

Anyway, yeah. Kind of betrays the spirit of the original a little bit but as far as being essentially a fun fanservice movie it was pretty good. They're making more, I'll probably watch those, too, especially if Lelouch continues to be cunty in them.

Amon Garam is underrated tbh

(Warning: Spoilers for Yugioh GX)

When talking about GX characters I feel like a lot of people overlook Amon Garam/Adrian Gecko. He is probably one of my favorite characters.

Look, I get it, he's a piece of crap and deserved to be wiped out by Yubel/Johan. But I like what he represents in the story and how different he is from the rest of the main cast.

He's introduced as a jovial and sort of eccentric ace duelist in S3. Like a personal rival to Manjoume/Chazz, same background (rich boy) but somewhat...better (less impulsive, more clever, overall better duelist) which is exposed on their sky duel.

And then he starts to change and become colder, more ruthless, smug and manipulative as S3 goes on, especially after partnering with Yubel. He sacrifices the woman he loves in order to attain Exodia's power without any second thoughts and he really seems to embrace his new role as King.

The scene where he's riding Exodia and refuses to finish the recently de-SKized Judai/Jaden is quite telling. He's drunk on power. He gambled and got a hell of a pay. And unlike Judai, who became SK after a hell of a traumatic event or Saio/Sartotius who was possesed by the Light of Destruction, Amon did it all consciously and out of his own will. No demonic possession, no LoD, no ancient millenary item possesion, nothing. Just an extremely ambitious bastard. In a way, he reminds me of Seto Kaiba in the early Yugioh manga chapters, before he got Mind Crushed by Yami.

Eventually, Yubel possessing Johan snaps him back to reality by kicking his ass and wiping him out. Right before dying he 1) reveals that actually he wanted to become King to the typical "making the world a better place" shtick and 2) shows regret for killing Echo.

While number 1 seems to come out of nowhere and feels like a lame attempt to somewhat redeem him, I think it makes him even more tragic. I think of Amon and he reminds me of complex antihero "ends justify the means" characters like Canute from Vinland Saga and Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass.

I feel like, if Yugioh broadened its scope to maybe a more mature setting, characters like Amon could probably be rewritten in a more neutral or even sympathetic light. And yet, because GX is deeply inside a shonen anime focused on promoting a card game, such risks couldn't be taken.

And don't get me wrong, I think Amon was very well handed. He feels like an inverse of Axel O'Brien. While Axel starts as a stoic, cold and aloof duelist loyal to the shady Professor Cobra, Amon gets introduced as a charming and skilled guy who seems to oppose Cobra's schemes (after all, that means he's a good guy, right?) And yet, Axel ends up warming up to the main cast and even being (along with Jim) the one who saves Judai, while Amon ends up going the dark route. The fact they both come from Academies located on opposite cardinal points (Amon from east, Axel from west) might not be a mere coincidence.

To top it off, I just love how Amon and Axel end up in such different spots at the series finale.

Axel? With the main cast, being one more of them, eating, drinking, cracking a few jokes, enjoying their company. He's part of the gang despite arriving later. Like Johan (and my boy Jim)

Amon? Who the hell knows. And who the hell cares. Dead. Forgotten. Vanished into nothing. Sentenced to life in the Shadow Realm. And the best part is that, aside from his aparition on the "missing student cards" on S3 ending, nobody brings him up at all. They dislike him so much that for what they know he may be being devored by harpies or tortured in some dungeon in the Dark World, it's all the same for the gang. They have better things to think about than some power drunk greedy ambitious asshole who killed the woman he loved for nothing.

Axel won friends, which is why he was given a second chance in S4. Amon lost it all, which is why he's one of the few GX characaters that died permanently. Maybe it was Shin Yoshida's intention to send a message in favor of personal bonds and connections. Maybe he forgot about Amon.

But no matter what, Amon is probably one of the GX characters that caught my attention the most.

Or are you Suzaku the traitor--the one who willfully served Euphemia li Britannia, who commanded all your people to die?" He might struggle with his restraints more or appease to Suzaku's better nature, the dim line of panic in his chest thrumming at the thought of Nunnally being hurt, or worse--but there's no point to it now. Suzaku is the most stubborn person he's ever known, and that steely look in his eyes tells Lelouch enough. Fair enough. Zero deserves his ire. Not even Lelouch can argue with that. His head slumps back against the metal, eyes closing. His breath leaves him in a disgusted scoff. "So...which name are you going to use to introduce me to my father with, Suzaku?"

The true source of the conflicts in Code Geass. Spoiler Warning!

I'll try to summarize it as best as I can: Genbu Kururugi, Suzaku's father, was likely a strict father who never bothered to assure Suzaku that he didn't need to be perfect, that he was only human, and that he would always need to grow as a person. That, and his pride in fighting Britannia, despite knowing he couldn't win, mattered more to him than the people he dedicated himself to protecting and serving. This is the impetus for Suzaku killing his father, and the source of a lot of his trauma. The reason Suzaku is so obsessed with changing Britannia from within, no matter how impractical it seems to Lelouch and those of us who side with Lelouch, comes from this traumatic experience. If Suzaku can accomplish this task, he can prove himself, if not perfect, then at least better than his father. Every time his idealism is questioned or brutally crushed, he doubles down, because he's a prisoner of his own trauma and guilt.

The same can also be said of Lelouch. Just as Suzaku is obsessed with changing Britannia from within, Lelouch wants to watch Britannia burn. More than that, he wants to be the one who lights the match. In taking care of his little sister Nunnally, now blind and crippled, he can prove that a "weakling" like her has a place in the world as much as anyone else. And in creating a better world by dismantling the empire by force and war, he can simultaneously live up to the Britannian ideals of "All men are not created equal" by showing his will is stronger than the empire, therefore proving his vision of the world deserves to exist more than Britannia, and, metaphorically speaking, spit in his father's face. The paradox, however, is that, in order to achieve this, Lelouch makes himself a cold, calculated genius who closes his heart out of fear that if he opens himself up, he'll be hurt again. This behavior, as seen when he finally confronts Emperor Charles near the climax of the series, is similar to Charles' own, and in fact the impetus for the Ragnarok Connection plan. In trying to undo Emperor Charles and the empire, Lelouch makes himself behave a lot like his father, which isn't helped by his mental state when Euphemia and then Shirley die, then when the Black Knights (sans Kallen) betray him, then when Rolo dies to save him.

In summary, the reason the world of Code Geass is so horribly screwed up is because of horrible fathers not loving their children. Lelouch and Suzaku are prisoners of their trauma. Their self-hatred, and their desire to overcome their fathers, is what lies at the core of their actions. They both deserve love. Yes, Suzaku too, no matter how stupid or selfish you might think he is when compared to Lelouch.

Lelouch and Suzaku from Code Geass for the character bingo

Congrats to the unhappy couple for their new son. The mobile game seems insane.

Lelouch:

Last time I did one of these I didn’t go in depth about my feelings about Lelouch!! He is def the best part of the show and I want to steal all of his outfits. I want to touch his silky hair and he is like a blorbo to me. I love a horrible flawed bastard genius boy.

Despite all that, I think the time skip killed his character development and weakened his arc because he wasn’t given the chance to actually? Dwell on his mistakes and come to terms with just how far he was realistically able to go to further his agendas? Because there was no time to actually think about this, later plans like Zero Requiem come across as less noble and more stupid as hell. Which is fair, because, and I cannot stress this enough, that was the dumbest plan that the show could have possibly ended with, and the fact that it’s framed as Lelouch’s grand maneuver retroactively reflects awfully on him and the intelligence they hyped up so much throughout the series. His decisions just stop making sense. It’s infuriating. He was such a fantastic and compelling character, but it’s almost like the show was unable to actually handle the much more serious tone where his arc was logically heading. Deserves better. I could fix him.

Suzaku:

Code Geass is the worst show ever made and that's because Suzaku is in it. Code Ment was right when it said his moral compass was a roulette wheel, and the fact that he was randomly faster than bullets(???) was such an insane detail that forcefully removed my suspension of disbelief in a way nothing has and nothing will ever again. Every time he said or did anything I wanted to set my tv on fire. At least Lelouch acknowledges the fact that’s he an amoral bastard, because I despise Suzaku’s holier-than-thou attitude about “changing things from the inside.” It’s so stupid and I’m feeling hatred and violence.

Idk, while most of the time I think the real reason Jeanne gets killed off was all to serve as a plot device to move the story forward which imo, infuriates me greatly, sometimes I also think the reason why she got killed off was maybe because the reception for RenMei is awfully negative and that Jeanne wasn’t well liked by the fandom. Ever since they became canon, it’s been the most widely hated couple by the fandom for nearly a decade and barely got any positivity... 

In a way, Jeanne’s death kind of reminds me of Shirley’s death from Code Geass. I remember seeing a lot of antis that hated on Shirley and then the writers killed her off later in the show because she wasn’t well liked by the fandom(?) Like I do know she also serves as a plot device but idk, maybe it’s just me but I feel like that was sorta the vibe I get, killing off characters because they aren’t well liked by the fandom. It’s the same treatment Jeanne gets from the SK fandom as well, not being well liked either 

I also remember seeing somewhere that the writers revealed the reason why they killed her off was to torture Lelouch(???) Idk how true that is but if that’s somewhat the case then I kinda also feel like it could be said the same with Takei with Ren cuz every now and then I feel like Takei hates Ren... 

And I have this crazy theory that maybe Takei hates Ren because Takei NEVER planned on making Ren from the beginning but one of his supervisors suggested the idea to make a rival character to make the story spicier and Takei went along with it but keeping low expectations about the character because he never had him in his mind from the beginning but unexpectedly, Ren turned out to be one of the most successful characters and Takei didn’t expected him to become a HUGE popular fan favorite character and maybe because of that with Ren stealing the entire show, Takei hated Ren. And probably went “mmmh yeah I fucking hate this dude. Let’s just get him a nice girl that is highly compatible with him, make him have his happiest moments with the person he loves and his own family he has with her and then torture him by killing off Jeanne! *jazz hands* Also let’s make his son have poo-poo hair because I hate his dad!” 

But yeah, these are just my thoughts. I’m just feeling salty all over again when I think about Jeanne’s death and yeah. T__T Jeanne and Ren deserved so much better.... And they still do.
