“In planning to be a professional naturalist….. I turned to the teeming small creatures that can be held between the thumb and forefinger, the little things that compose the foundations of our ecosystems, the little things that I like to say, run the world.”
Edward O. Wilson
By observing a milkweed plant very closely for more no more than five minutes, you will begin to understand exactly what Wilson was getting at.

Last Saturday could have been my last night alive.
Now after a week in the icu, I'm having my best Friday night... being able to eat a yogurt in a chair and watch Shawshank.
Try to live the life you have right now instead of saving joy for some perfect one.

The Unnoticed Beauty of Life
Amid life’s tumult, a profound beauty often goes unnoticed. The beauty of the fragility and impermanence of life.
A few years ago, I was reflecting on that unnoticed beauty and felt inspired to write the following short poem, which emerged in a very prose-like form:
Light
The sky reveals nothing of its own thoughts. It simply shifts and changes as the elements and the immense expanses of space act upon it. Colors appear with the light, growing brighter, reflecting, refracting—a kaleidoscope of star-shine born eight minutes and twenty seconds ago from the fiery furnace of the star we float so tenuously next to in just the right distance to preserve our lives.
I don't often over-analyze my own poetry because their meanings tend to be more personal in nature and, most often, are an attempt to capture a moment or a feeling. But this one needs some unpacking.
I sought to capture the delicate interplay of elements that create the ever-changing tapestry of our existence. "The sky reveals nothing of its own thoughts" suggests that life, inherently unpredictable and inscrutable, shifts in hues and tones beyond our understanding.
Just as the sky dances with colors in response to light and space, so too does our journey ebb and flow through moments of joy, sorrow, doubt, and hope. This kaleidoscopic vision of existence invites us to ponder our place within the cosmos and the fragility that characterizes it.
The line referring to our “tenuous” existence reminds us that life is a precious gift, delicately balanced. The stars, some of which we witness as mere points of light, reflect a history far older than our own, illuminating the vastness of time and space that cradles our short-lived moments on Earth.
It’s a humbling thought: we float in a universe governed by forces far beyond our control, sustained by the sun's warmth that fires our hearts and nourishes our existence.
Pema Chödrön, in her book When Everything Falls Apart, encapsulates this poetic truth succinctly when she observes, “The most basic and profound way to speak about this is to not think about ourselves.”
Here lies a powerful reminder that amidst our individual struggles and triumphs, our connection to the broader world defines our existence. The beauty of life often emerges in the spaces we create together—moments shared, acts of kindness inspired, and the love exchanged in fleeting instances.
Recognizing the fragility of life invites us to reach out, connect, and embrace the present rather than withdraw in fear or isolation.
The Bible poignantly resonates with this theme in Psalm 103:15-16: “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.”
The imagery evokes the transient nature of our lives, much like the shifting sky depicted in the poem. It reminds us to cherish our moments, which are unique and fleeting. Just as the flower blooms briefly before it withers, we must embrace the beauty around us while we can.
Diana Butler Bass, in Freeing Jesus, echoes this sentiment by noting that “Love is the foundation of life and our deepest wisdom.” Life is a complex tapestry woven together by love, connection, and moments of shared beauty.
This interconnection reinforces our shared human experience and reminds us to savor the richness of each day.
In closing, let us strive to live with intention, cherishing every moment bestowed upon us. Life’s fragility and beauty beckon us to embrace the present fully—to laugh deeply, love fiercely, and act with kindness.
Each day is an opportunity to be alive, to marvel at the wonders around us, and to make lasting memories. By recognizing the layer of interconnectedness through which life unfolds, we can create a richness that honors both our existence's delicate and radiant aspects.
Let us make the most of every day, embracing the kaleidoscope of experiences life offers, and find joy in the ephemeral beauty of our shared journey.
May it be so for all of us, and may the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all, now and forever. Amen.

Linktober Day 14, akkala skyview tower!
Part of the duo’s jobs as Purah’s interns are to help with the remapping project of Hyrule after the Upheaval. Link’s the only little man sturdy enough to WANT to be flung out of a modified human canon attached to a cable, I think. (Introducing part of the research team! We have Jerrin, a hylian-sheikah researcher; bilson, a rito bolson employee; and truckson, a tarry town goron.)
Want to see more of my TOTK AU where zelda doesnt go back in time? Check out this master post:
And my patreon if you wanna drop like two dollars for my sketchbook :0

None of our hands are clean
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#jin guangshan#mianmian#The secret meaning behind one of the jin members scuttling off is:#I couldn't make three people work out in the remaining panels and per my rule of '3 attempts and take a different approach' he had to go.#Sometimes there are meaningful reasons why something happens in the background. And sometimes it is like this.#Let's just say he saw what was about to happen and got out of there before mianmian started throwing hands.#Okay no more delay. The sheer boldness to call WWX a killer in a room full of people who wear their war body count as a badge...#It's about hypocrisy yes - but it is also about how the narrative shifts on the same action depending on the frame.#Because at the end of the day...the blood on our hands is still blood on our hands.#Both the deaths on the battlefield and the deaths of the Jin's abusing the Wen remnants are still deaths caused by another.#They are also deaths that - depending who holds the frame - are noble acts to protect others.#But it isn't supposed to be about who was right and who was wrong.#It is about the need to be seen as the victim to avoid culpability.#Because if you aren't responsible you don't have to be held accountable. You don't have to grow or change.#If someone takes all the blame then there is no need to reflect on your own faults.#We have to protect our fragile ego from the mirror lest it shatter and we have to remake it anew.#Horrifically enough...even if WWX spared the Jin guards or even never ran into Wen Qing#He wouldn't have been able to escape being the scapegoat. He downfall was set into motion a long time ago.#My goodness...What a deliciously tragic story Wei Wuxian's first life was.

Embrace
Lovers since High School days at Trou de Cyprès, Cypress Hole, on the prairie. He a football player, she a cheerleader. Country folk, church goers, and friendly.
Post High School they attended college. He became a coach and she taught Home Economics. The young couple had one child, a red-haired, freckled girl, named Petite Rouge.
One morning got up, felt a lump under his right nipple. Diagnosed as breast cancer; he passed one month later.
She had a newborn boy she named Petit Rouge in remembrance of him.
Life is fragile, enjoy each moment, now is the time to live; embrace.

Wei Wuxian should be able to get drunk for once. I think he'd either be singing bawdy drinking songs on the roof of the Jingshi or he'd be getting irrevocably lost no matter where he is. He's found in the bushes behind the mountains like a cryptid, and then he's like "I can't believe you all got lost" (extremely slurred) as if he didn't get embarrassed by something Lan Wangji had said and just somehow disappeared when everyone looked back at him
oh ABSOLUTELY im walking with u and nodding and agreeing, i can see him becoming an absolute menace to keep track of at his drunkest.
anyway heres wonderwall The Gang (Wangxian & their fave group of ducklings) in a city known for its STRONG wine and wuxian being like well. ur all grown now, youre technically not juniors anymore. we have to see whos lasting the longest against this stuff!, smash cut to a suspiciously wei ying-less group of the worlds drunkest cultivators being wrangled through the woods by designated driver hanguang-jun, with at least 2 of them clinging to his robes at all times.
#i ALSOOOO LOVE the hc that wuxians just. very affectionate when drunk. bc he lowkey is that way in canon#we dont really know if the alcohols affecting him a lot when him n wangji r drinking but he sure is affectionate#but i think thats Stage One of drunk wuxian. like b99 with the 1-drink-amy system#he goes Unaffected -> lovey dovey -> musical -> fucking off into the woods#also THE IMAGES ARE LOADING IN WE DID IT GANG!#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wangxian#wei wuxian#lan wangji#sketch#doodle#jin ling#lan sizhui#lan jingyi#ouyang zizhen#sizhui came back to life somewhere between the Petname Drop and the ensuing panic he felt the Anxious Dad vibes radiating off wangji#wangji Attempts to question wwx as to why the fuck he RAN AWAY???? when he sobers up and all wwx has to offer to the conversation is#'well to be fair im a fragile man'#as if that explains anything#except post-canon wangxian understand eachother far too well so it does in fact explain everything#wwx when lwj is nice to him: ???husband is unyielding???husband is cruel??? husband wants me dead??? husband wants me to have heart attack?#JAIL for husband! JAIL FOR 1000 YEARS! but first! self imposed exile!#i was gonna make this longer so it made more sense and was actually good but its 00:38 so u see why i dont wanna? anyway#wwx drunk out of his mind on the roof of the jingshi with wen ning: BIG DIRTY STINKIN BASS! DIRTY STINKIN BASS! DIRTY DIRTY STINKIN BASS#lwj who just got back from a solo nighthunt internally: i wasnt aware he COULD get drunk? am i impressed? i think im impressed?#also the stick in his waistband. very much not chenqing. he dropped chenqing at some point and just pciked up a random stick and was like#yuh thatll do#and fun fact it will not in fact do

i think some people got the wrong message after watching every movie where mean bullies call the quirky but ultimately loveable protagonist a "freak"
calling people freaks isn't bad just because sometimes you're wrong and that weird girl was actually very nice and saved everyone at prom from a mummy's curse.
calling people freaks is bad because dividing the world into "good people who are normal" and "bad people who are abnormal" makes you a tedious goddamn asshole
#freaks aren't bad you're just too fragile to handle the beautiful complexity of the real world#and you will spend your whole life being a huge jerk to people who don't deserve the deeply annoying ordeal of having met you#or you could maybe hold an earthworm in your hand for awhile and get over it
