None of our hands are clean
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#jin guangshan#mianmian#The secret meaning behind one of the jin members scuttling off is:#I couldn't make three people work out in the remaining panels and per my rule of '3 attempts and take a different approach' he had to go.#Sometimes there are meaningful reasons why something happens in the background. And sometimes it is like this.#Let's just say he saw what was about to happen and got out of there before mianmian started throwing hands.#Okay no more delay. The sheer boldness to call WWX a killer in a room full of people who wear their war body count as a badge...#It's about hypocrisy yes - but it is also about how the narrative shifts on the same action depending on the frame.#Because at the end of the day...the blood on our hands is still blood on our hands.#Both the deaths on the battlefield and the deaths of the Jin's abusing the Wen remnants are still deaths caused by another.#They are also deaths that - depending who holds the frame - are noble acts to protect others.#But it isn't supposed to be about who was right and who was wrong.#It is about the need to be seen as the victim to avoid culpability.#Because if you aren't responsible you don't have to be held accountable. You don't have to grow or change.#If someone takes all the blame then there is no need to reflect on your own faults.#We have to protect our fragile ego from the mirror lest it shatter and we have to remake it anew.#Horrifically enough...even if WWX spared the Jin guards or even never ran into Wen Qing#He wouldn't have been able to escape being the scapegoat. He downfall was set into motion a long time ago.#My goodness...What a deliciously tragic story Wei Wuxian's first life was.

There's really something in how despite his hollow flippancy, Augustine was the only one of his generation who hadn't given up.
Cytherea would have personally killed everyone in the solar system and then God, trying to die. Mercymorn tried to do it the other way around, but she had the same end in mind. Augustine is the one who said no. No, there are people out there. Real people, to whom we have a responsibility, and to whom we owe a future. Until. You know.

i think some people got the wrong message after watching every movie where mean bullies call the quirky but ultimately loveable protagonist a "freak"
calling people freaks isn't bad just because sometimes you're wrong and that weird girl was actually very nice and saved everyone at prom from a mummy's curse.
calling people freaks is bad because dividing the world into "good people who are normal" and "bad people who are abnormal" makes you a tedious goddamn asshole

you know what i think Mirabelle deserves to get a little fucked up freaky in how she processes learning about Siffrin’s loops post-canon. for fun. as a treat
thinking about this line in particular and stretching out the implications like taffy
Tumblr media
this is a more romanticized, cutesy facet of her interests but she’s still framing Siffrin’s situation through storytelling. so like. What If.
i mean. this woman loves horror and gore and monsters and horrible things happening to innocent people. IN FICTION. in fiction!!! obviously!!!! and it’s beyond terrible that something even remotely close to any of that happened to her real friend in real life!!
BUT.
maybe. maybe sometimes, if the conditions are right, she gets a little too wrapped up in her imagination about the bloody, awful poetry of it all. maybe Siffrin tells a joke that's a little too dark and gory for anyone else, borderline or full-on Concerning, but she latches onto it without thinking about the Implications and plays along with increasing gruesomeness because FINALLYYYYY someone will play with her in the Horror Space (like Isabeau does in the romance space!!) and then. OOPS. the implications!!!! and she has to recalibrate out of Fun With Fiction mode into Oh No, My Friend Underwent A Horrifying Ordeal mode.
but being able to joke about things, even the awful things, is...kind of comforting, to Siffrin. makes them feel less like they're being babied and pitied and more like what happened was something...normal, almost? something that doesn't have to feel like the end of the world all over again every time it's mentioned, at least. so he tries to reassure her, and Odile and Isabeau have to go “actually can you PLEASE not joke about dying horribly it’s freaking us out and also might not be the Best for you? mentally???”
maybe Mirabelle will get a little Too Into trying to weave meaning and symbolism into the scant details that Siffrin gradually reveals, like she’s trying to finish the orange poem all over again, or eagerly meddling with the romantic reunion of the two actual people in the House with undelivered bonding earrings, writing their story for them without their input.
it’s easier to justify the tragedy of it all when it has a purpose, isn’t it? finding the beauty in the darkness, the love powerful enough to end the world. romanticizing the horrors until her friend can talk about them without shutting down.
and she feels guilty about hearing something and immediately thinking “ohhhhhhh this is JUST like Blorbo From My Novels,” because she should treat Siffrin’s situation with the gravity and care he deserves!! they’re a real person, not a character who exists for entertainment, to represent the ~themes~ of some story.
but if she admits as much…maybe Siffrin is safe to admit that he had started seeing the rest of them as actors, endlessly reciting their lines. maybe that’s just how people process things sometimes, grasping for metaphors when unfiltered reality gets to be too much. maybe it’s okay to talk about that part of it all, too.
#mypost#isat spoilers#is this. is this anything.#much more nervous about this mira post because the basis for it is. tenuous maybe. have not seen something approaching this take Anywhere#thinking about the healer stereotype of being soft and warm and loving#but in reality 'healers' being exposed to the brutal bloody truth of human fragility and anatomy#she's a fighter. she's a healer. she reads the most fucked up gore you can imagine#she's anxious to the point of trembling like a chiuahua sometimes but dammit she WILL stand her ground when it counts#and MAYBE her first avenue of processing the horrors of reality is to revel in the horrors of fiction!#is this a good/healthy approach for her OR siffrin? mmmmmmmaybe not!#but like. idk. i feel like people write Mirabelle as less capable of handling the messiest parts of Siffrin’s recovery#on account of her anxiety. and i get that liking gore in fiction is VERY MUCH not the same as being chill & level headed about it#when faced with the real thing in the context of someone you care about#odile is logical and level headed. isabeau is a pillar of comfort and has defender training. i get why they’re the go-to’s#so! fair enough! but she IS also a fighter and a healer#who is absolutely resolute when something matters to her#i wanna give her more credit for her ability to step up in messy situations#and also. for fun. make her a little Weird about it too.#isat#isat thoughts#mirasif qpr#isat mirabelle#isat siffrin#in stars and time#in stars and time spoilers#bonnie not mentioned in the gory joke scenario bc i believe siffrin would have the restraint to not do that when they’re around#but not be QUITE as conscious about what’s gonna fly with the adults

There are some ships that you just know would be 100% canon if they were an M/F ship, and that's mainly what pisses people off the most in these situations.
It isn't just about the ship; it's also very much about the homophobia (whether the creators know it or not) that is preventing the ship from being canon when they otherwise would be.

obsessed w the doctor fully turning his back on clara after this statement (physically and emotionally cutting himself off) and, feeling unmoored, pulling the console lever to exert some kind of control over the situation. he then continues to put space between himself and clara only to spin around, having undone several jacket buttons, and specifically shows off the red lining interior—symbolic of his emotional vulnerability in this moment. he asks her what she thinks of him (as a person), disguising it as a question about the new outfit.

truthless recluse really disassociated so hard he basically became a completely different person. he fought so hard to convince shadow milk cookie that all the torture and torment he was putting him through wasn’t effecting him, that he was finally broken down and apathetic to all that was happening around him.. but on the inside he was terrified.
the trauma of everything he’d experienced, of learning his entire life, everything he worked for, what he had decided was his entire worth and purpose in the world was destined for a path of corruption before the moment he was even born shook him to his very core, but he couldn’t let that show. he couldn’t even hint at how lonely and full of pure despair he was because that’s a sign of weakness, and he knows very well how shadow milk cookie responds to that.
i can’t imagine how utterly miserable pure vanilla must have felt at that moment in time. the light inside his eyes died, nothing left but a lifeless husk of the person he used to be. when he offered to become a cookie of deceit, to share his soul jam with shadow milk so they could rule the world together through chaos and lies… i almost believed him.
and then he pulled the rug out from underneath everyone’s feet by taking control of the soul jam, once he had gotten shadow milk to trust him and put his power into it, shattering it and creating a new one using nothing but sheer willpower. do you understand how insane that is?? the soul jam was given to the ancient heroes as gifts from their ‘gods’, granting them immortality as well as unprecedented power. it’s divine power, a power that took a team of the world’s greatest scientists with the most advanced technology to figure out how to borrow and wield even a fraction of its power.
and pure vanilla not only broke that, but then proceeded to forge an entirely new one.
i lost the plot somewhere along the way, but the point was originally supposed to be: don’t let anyone tell you cookie run kingdom is a childish game for children. it absolutely is not. the fact that they’re all cute cookies is a way to lower your guard before ambushing you with the most fucked up and traumatizing establishing lore ever seen in a mobile game about fucking baked goods.

To the people who are complaining about the optional Hans romance that was just revealed:
1. You're so afraid of two men kissing, lol, fucking fragile
2. It's optional, you don't have to go down that route
3. "Weehh but they were both straight af in the first one" Take a wild fucking guess what time period they're in and what would happen to them if they were just a little gay in broad daylight
4. Bi people exist, and no one, no matter their sexuality or identity, owes you proof of it because then you're just a huge fucking creep
5. It's optional, you don't have to go down that route
6. Plus, I thought people's sexuality isn't supposed to be flaunted about and made a big deal, but damn, being straight sure is
7. IT'S OPTIONAL, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO DOWN THAT ROUTE

Imagine how Robotnik feels. To have his fall from grace, to feel godhood in his fingertips and fail spectacularly, near death and with every bone broken in his human body, to be healed and taken care of by Stone for months... He was the smartest man in the world. Stone is there. He became god. Stone is there. His ego was shattered and Stone is still there.
To be broken and rebuilt piece by piece, with bits missing here and there, and Stone is there every step of the way to see all of that ugly humanity that Robotnik possesses. Taking care of him unconditionally. Without any obligation.
I think he'd be scared.

I've mentioned before that a really great short story does what a novel could never do, which is walk in to your house, rearrange your photographs so they’re slightly off-kilter, and then leave you with that quiet almost banal destabilization.
Well, I've never read Meg Ellison's The Pill before, but---

Thinkin about Dennis and the way he acts around Charlie. Whenever they team up together it’s always something wild and weird. Like daddy and the boy or electric dream machine or huffing turpentine in the back office or being the only two members of the gang who were down to turn paddy’s into a gay bar or even getting stranded in the woods saying “yes” to everything.
They just simply have fun together, like the real kind of fun. And Dennis shows genuine care and concern for Charlie while also allowing him to just be himself. I mean they wrote Dayman together for fuck’s sake. And yeah Dennis likes that he can easily influence Charlie but Charlie is actually so fucking smart I bet he knows exactly what Dennis is doing. And he lets him do it. Cuz at the end of the day they’re best friends. And Dennis is beautiful.
