35. #LightOfDay

-Once again I found myself floating in an endless sea of black nothingness, drowning on the dark that surrounded me but this time I knew I could get out. They wouldn't keep me down here. I wouldn't allow it. I would get out of this hellhole that my own mind had created for me and get back to the land of the living. But first I had to get the other half of me. At first I didn't know what the stranger was talking about but it soon dawned on me that I hadn't heard my wolf speaking to me in a while and that needed to end.

Clearing everything else away, I focus on the beast that lived inside of me, calling to him. We had become one in so many ways in the last year that I knew he would answer me eventually. It was a big change from the first time I learned what I was, when I had refused to let him out to the point he fought his way out. I wasn't wrong about him answering me. It took some time but finally I could feel him, annoyed that I dared to bother him when he was trying to recoup. Like hiding would help with that. 'It's time. I can't wake up without you. And I'm done with being here. How long has it been? We need out. Now. We both deserve to see the light of day, to run around. Let's do this.'

He didn't argue with me, he was just as ready as I was to leave. To find freedom again, to be in the living world and not trapped wherever it was we were now. So together we pushed at the barrier that was put in place to keep us inside. Pushed our way out of the dark sea and into what should be the real world. Nothing would stop us, nothing would keep us locked here any longer. As a team we fought with all we had until the darkness faded away.

My eyes flew open as I shot upright, sucking in a deep breath. Heart pounding in my chest as I sat there. I was scanning around to figure out where I was and where the stranger was that had brought me here and saved my life but also trapped me in my own head. But alas I didn't see anyone and I couldn't make out where I was. It was just a cave as far as I could tell. That frustrated me because I wanted to know who the one was that kept calling me "little wolf" but it seemed like I wouldn't.

With a shake of my head, I pushed myself up and headed towards where I could smell fresh air. Wanting to see the sunlight. I was a little unstable on my feet since it had been who knows how long since I moved around and ate something substantial. I finally saw rays of sunshine shining in, each small step bringing me closer to my freedom. The moment the sun hit my skin, I felt better, the soft breeze was soothing to my soul and in that moment I forgot that I was nearly killed once more and that there was someone out there that saved me. Someone that I would search for for as long as I could even if it took years. I needed to find out why he did what he did for me, what he gained from it. But that was for later, now was for savoring the sun and the wind and the fresh air. And to hunt and fill my belly.-
