what's our consensus on Boothill's thoughts on easter? if it exists in the hsr universe (which.. surely it must be known of in a historical sense, at least? i swear the MC refers to "easter eggs" at least once) it's probably totally detached from the religious background by that point, right?? im unclear on how earth connects to the rest of the universe lore-wise but whatever.

i think he would be delighted by it honestly. specifically the egg hunts. i can 100% see him meticulously hiding eggs in all sorts of crazy places. climbs up trees like a fucking monkey just to tuck them in the branches all the way at the top. does impossible parkour and hides one away out of sight. hides them in gutters and under rocks and in light poles and shit. considers the environments to pick the most similar colors to make them harder to spot. but also i imagine he's really considerate for younger kids that can't get to the most difficult ones, so he scatters plenty in more intermediate areas too.

simultaneously i really feel like he'd enjoy taking part in the hunts too.. the candy is not the priority though, he gives that away to the kids (or you 💖) for sure. his real goal is that HIGH SCORE BABY !!!! he'd get so competitive about it so fast lmao. immediately starts climbing all over the fucking place trying to find the most difficult ones and whining if he can't find any. he has a pretty substantial advantage with the enhanced eyes and everything, so you'd probably have to team up with someone to stand a chance at beating him lol

Andrei is drunk. Notably drunk. The only reason he's let himself get to this point is because Makarov told him it was alright. Makarov has been drinking too, but he's barely buzzed. He is, however, finding drunk Andrei immensely amusing.

Andrei is sitting on his commander's bed, a mostly empty bottle of vodka on the floor, more intoxicated than he's been in a decade or more. His eyes seem unable to leave Makarov by this point, but he's fine with that. Makarov unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt an hour ago, and the tattoo that looks like a knife plunged through his sternum is just visible above the white fabric.

He gets up, wobbling on his feet a bit. "Can I tell you something, Vlo--Vold--" He gives up on the longer nickname-- "Vova?" It's slightly adorable, his slurred Russian mixing with a thickened Australian accent.

Makarov, in his comfy chair in the corner, swirling his rocks glass, looks up at him expectantly, and manages to contain a smile at how undone his most effecitve soldier has become. "Of course."

Andrei walks in a mostly straight line to him and raises a hand towards his open collar. At the last step, he stumbles, catching himself on the back of the chair to save him from landing on his commander. Light fingers trace over the inked lines of the knife on Makarov's chest.

"When... when you let me fuck you... on your back..." Makarov watches his eyes darken. "I like to see if you mark this up. When you come."

Ohh, this is so so cute. 🥹 I have a very clear image of drunk Andrei in my head; sitting on the bed with one leg hanging, bottle in hand, head bowed and his face is flushed, looking like a sad puppy. I wonder what kind of drunk he'd be, clearly a bold one if he can do that. And what entertainment for Makarov that would be. Watching his strongest soldier try to keep it together and fail miserably, the thickened accent, the bold gestures... Man. I know for sure that comment caught him off guard though, who taught him to talk like that!?

18. If your character were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would they want to have with them? Which person would they absolutely hate to be trapped there with? Which person would they enjoy being trapped there with?

-Oh Aeris would be totally chillin on a deserted island. His three things would be as follows: a good knife, a solid length of rope, and his bow (Verglas Curve). Assuming that he has full access to his light abilities, that's really all he needs in order to hunt, find water, and build shelter. He's a pretty pragmatic fellow who used to go off for days hunting before he was even rezzed as a Hunter, so he doesn't really need anything else

-One person he would hate to be trapped with: ERAMIS. Eramis is one of the few people who grates on his nerves, alongside Mara Sov (who he just outright hates). He doesn't hate her, but her line of thinking frustrates him, and he has a hard time understanding her reasoning. I think if she was trapped on the island with him, it would be a lot of her making cutting remarks about how he chooses to deal with survival in a way that implies he's doing it all wrong while she goes off and does her own thing, and he'd be grumpy about being critiqued from someone who opened a vex gate on his own people

-Person he'd enjoy being trapped there with: Mmm tossup between Misraaks, Crow, and Taniks tbh. I really think that he'd prefer to be alone, because then he doesn't need to worry about keeping anyone safe, but Misraaks and Crow are two examples of people he can get along with who he also doesn't really need to worry about keeping safe. He also works well with them in survival situations, so he would appreciate having them around to help out.

As for Taniks...that's just because he'd find the concept of being trapped and hunted on a deserted island by Taniks to be both deeply arousing and a fun challenge to his skills as a hunter, bc he's a fuckin' freak like that

Hello!!! I don’t know if your taking requests for snippets rn, but would you be able to write something about XY’s mirror world? It is tRAGICALLY underrated and I saw what YIU wrote for it a bit ago and loved it! Thanks if so :DD

Tysm, I'm happy that it resonated with you so well!!! :D It really is an underrated piece of lore from XY, which is part of anipoke's general weirdness about deep mythos that can get dropped but never really delved into, especially as it is considered a 'filler' ep. But hey, my goal is to delve into whatever I can get my hands on within Kalos and so here we are heh.

Going to write up a snippet for you, but beware, very exposition-y. Might as well make the best of both worlds (lol).

“A mirror world?”

Ash bit his lip as he watched the ground, seeing a slice of his face on it. It’s strange, hearing her voice without any of the bite. One part of him wished it was there all the same. “Well, this can’t be my world. You’re all so… different.”

The sound of screeching and scratching reached his ears, and he cowered for a moment. This Clemont is more occupied with cold metal, bending it to his will with force that is nowhere on his face or tone, and that is strange too. Back in his world, his Clemont will always be tracking mud from some arcane spell or running race. His face will always be stuck in a proud grin, his mouth always running with some sort of retort or boastful explanation. Ash briefly wondered if his Clemont would believe him about this world.

“So, how are we like in your world, then?” And that’s Bonnie. Or at least, this world’s Bonnie. In his world, she wouldn’t really give him the time of day. She was proud of her role in orbiting her older brother, just as her older brother was proud of his strength and skill.

Ash stuck a finger on the ground, skirting around the reflective surface. “Well, you see, I’m just a new Trainer. I came to Kalos because I heard that I could get stronger there, and that’s where I met all of you.”

Some silence. Then, “So we’re all still travelling with each other in your world?”

I didn’t want to, not really, flashed into his mind at her voice, but Ash forced himself to nod. “You were a strong Trainer. You said you could help me. And, uh, Clemont came around too. He was tired of being in his Gym and wanted to see everything outside, so he took a break and came with us.”

“I did what?!” this Clemont gasped as Bonnie laughed beside him. Ash could slightly detect a sad note behind that.

He shrugged. The inventor, because that’s what he is, picked up the screwdriver he dropped and went back to work. Ash thought he was out of the conversation before he heard a tentative, “So, what kind of Gym? Were we still in Lumiose?”

“You always were.” ‘The perfect place for everyone to see my brilliance!’. “Ground Type. You were fourth in the Gym Challenge.”

“So the order is reversed?” She sounded interested as she sat back. “That must be interesting. Or, since that’s all you know…”

“That’s okay.” Ash didn’t even know what to say to that. It just came out, like instinct. He could feel that questioning look again, and he scratched the ground harder. “You were always interested in the Gym Challenge, even though you said it was too easy. You— I mean, the other Serena. My one. She was very strong. My Clemont said she could be Champion if she put her mind to it.” And some other choice words that none of them needed to know.

“That’s funny.” This Bonnie stuck her tongue out as she thought to herself. “Our Ash is very strong. He’s brave too, and so are his Pokemon, you know, and he’s always sticking around with Pikachu.”

“Really?” Ash couldn’t help it. He hears Pikachu’s name and its like his heart is opening, is open, is ready to receive that love in any shape or form as long as it is yellow and bright and full of electricity and sparking cheeks.

This Bonnie nodded. “Yeah! He’s the one challenging the Gyms here. He didn’t get to challenge Clemont though…”

“That’s because we made a promise!” this Clemont barked out, cheeks going red, and the three shared a small laugh as Ash thought to himself, legs drawn up but slightly lowering as the conversation flows on, figure free from the ground itself. It was weird that Bonnie was calling her brother by name. Weird that Clemont wouldn’t take on any challenge head-on, and weird that they were all friendly like this.

“Okay, okay, what colour is the sky there?”

“It’s green.”

But it’s nice.

“What Pokemon do you have?”

“Uh, Froakie, Fletchling, and Hawlucha. They’re not really battlers, though.”

It’s warm.

“Then what do you do?”

“Nothing much.”

“C’mon! I’m sure there’s something you like. Oh, oh, can I help find it?”

“I guess…”

Maybe, in a different world, he would belong here. And maybe that version of him… will appreciate it as much as he does. Or at least he hopes so.

This world was so kind. Ash hopes that nothing bad will befall it.

He hopes that this world can keep going on and on, as beautiful as his other friends has made it out. And he hopes that this own world can learn to be kind too, and that maybe he can be kinder as well, and maybe he can be the one to start the change. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

(Clemont adds the final adjustment to the new machine he is building, and the mirror shines with all of their faces on one surface. Ash does not shy away. Even with her in the picture.

This isn’t his group after all. Over here, this is just Serena, and he is just Ash. No crybaby here.)

In a world with a green sky and a cave with jutting mirrors, a Pikachu stands and fights the invaders.

He knows that they are not the heroes of justice. He knows that they are twisted and wrong and bad, but this Pikachu has faced down titans and land-movers and Psychics with powers that no mind can even comprehend, so he will fight and he will not back down.

That Meowth, smarmy and with a backwater accent, calls out, “What’s wrong with you, Pikachu? Aren’t you going to run back to your Trainer?”

He briefly remembers those tears in those brown eyes. He shakes his head and roars, a sharp, scratchy sound, a sound that has cowed the creator himself. That Meowth winces, and the humans step up, glints in their eyes that betrays a hunger like no other.

“Who cares about the Twerp? Let’s just catch him now, while we still can!” The woman swings over the device, such a strange contraption for villains wearing the face of heroes that prefer action with their own two hands, and he slams it down with Iron Tail. They grimace, and then try again, and again.

Pikachu will not back down. Pikachu will fight, because his Trainer cannot do it alone and he is all his Trainer has left.

And so he attacks and attacks and attacks until he has no more.

And when they reach towards him, black gloves so foreign on their familiar hands, he bites and scratches and buys time. He will make it hard for them, because the world is hard and he is hard and his Ash is so soft, too soft, and so Pikachu will do anything for him.

Anything.

And so he does not give up the fight. Even as they push him inside the device. Even as they crow that his electricity will not penetrate it, because his powers has challenged skies and space and Pikachu will be with Ash and that is a promise.

And Pikachu does not break his promise.

Just unlocked this thing in Tales of Berseria. "Allows the use" of martial arte "derivatives" under "certain conditions". Whatever the FUCK that means. I know what it means, and it's no thanks to this awful description, so I'm gonna rant about it and fix it because I'm frustrated at this display of incompetence

First a little fairness. While a martial arte "derivative" is a total nonsense term, it's easy to figure out by looking at the "Set Artes" screen. Each arte has a derivative arte, which is just some other arte from that character's moveset chosen pretty much arbitrarily. The name is awful, as the derivative arte isn't really derived from the arte at all, but it's not a major issue.

More of an issue is "certain conditions". I hate when video games say stuff like "certain condition" or "specific items" and then refuse to actually explain it. The worst part is, there AREN'T any conditions to using arte derivatives, unless you count "knowing the arte" and "having enough SG to use the arte" as conditions. This is confusing, but doesn't really hinder your ability to use arte derivatives.

Another minor problem is that it says "martial artes" but it actually works for hidden artes too. You can figure it out really quick by seeing arte derivatives listed for hidden artes, but the fact that the description is seriously just lying to you is just sloppy.

The core issue: How do you use arte derivatives? The game does not tell you. At all. In any way. You do it by keeping the arte button held down, and then the arte derivative will be used after the current arte. I have no idea how they expected anyone to figure this out without so much as a HINT. Nothing in the description, not in the tutorial menu, absolutely nothing about holding down the arte button.

Here's my rewrite:

"Allows the use of martial and hidden arte successors by keeping the arte button held down.

An arte's successor arte is listed at the bottom-right of the description in the "Set Artes" screen."

You might notice that the first paragraph is longer, but it'll still fit. They had room for more text to explain but they chose not to use it. Anyway a few minor changes; clarifying that it works with hidden artes, and specifying "an arte's successor arte" instead of just "it" in the second paragraph. Then of course TELLING THE PLAYER HOW TO ACTUALLY USE THE DAMN THING!! It's not that hard!

I also changed "derivative" to "successor". An arte is followed by its derivative, so successor is a more fitting name. There could be a better name, successor is just what I came up with after 10 seconds of thinking about what to call them. Because why the fuck would you call them derivatives.

Anyway there's another related potentite called Wizard's Ventite so when I get that I'll reblog this post with a follow-up.
