Today's theme kind of had me amused, because there are a lot of tropes out there in the world, and any number of them are pretty popular within our fandom, but the one given to me for today was the same one that had been given for a previous rec. Thankfully I just so happen to have a lot of fics that fit this trope and some of them haven't been included in recs yet, so I chose the ones that I personally feel fits it best. I do not want to be that person and it’s paining me to even put this in an ask but you seem like a reasonable person who wouldn’t mock or get angry about it, but there’s been things piling up and I need to vent

If it comes out even with the Euros something is going on between Louis and Krystle I can’t be sure I’d be surprised

does Louis look to the left a lot yes but then when you see Ks posts she’s on the left, (I’ve been to his show I’ve seen this) and when he sings “I love him” he would look up there nervously, the mountain of art about loving someone or wanting their love or an unrequited love (apparently she is separated but it could be about him too because you marry someone their love had been requited at some point) her posting a pic in her IG stories with “beloved” and it was rams skulls and Louis is a Capricorn and few other pics she’s posted lately.

Maybe they suffer from the curse of coincidences.

I understand they’re friends but he’s her employer and she’s always right there.

I know the very small, tiny bit of possible evidence sounds foolish but there is just this vibe there I can’t put my finger on it, if they (Harry and Louis) broke up (I’m not sure they did) I think they would be the reason for it. Maybe they have an arrangement like a lot of people think they do, but with K it’s not a one night thing with a woman, a relationship would be established, definite feelings there let alone he was at her wedding.

If it’s true I think it’s been since just before his Euro tour started or during it, could be the reason H took the pearls off finally and never put them back on or why he shaved his head. More than a few times Louis looked like he was going to cry even on stage and Harry looked miserable and it was more than him stunting at the time.

When I said I don’t want to think this and I do think they could be together I meant it, but with them everything seems to have two possibilities

Love, you seem like you’re really serious about this question, and I can’t help but think you’ve got to be a newer fan because literally no one except handful of teenagers who wanted Elounor to be real, has ever thought Louis was anything but gay until maybe the last year or two that he’s been pushing this ridiculous image.

As for Harry’s pearls, fans made up the idea that they represented something about Larry. There was nothing to indicate that other than the supposed number of pearls correlating with the supposed number of years the two of them have been together. I don’t see how him changing that piece of jewelry means anything.

It sounds like you’re linking together all sorts is really random things. I don’t recall Harry looking miserable recently, nor Louis looking like he was going to cry. And I’m sorry but there are so many reasons Harry could have shaved his hair… Louis breaking up with him to date Krystle is so far down the list it’s not even on the list.

Whether or not Harry and Louis broke up, I’m sorry but I can’t in a million years ever believe it’s because of a woman. I’m not mocking you at all, but there’s literally nothing about Louis’ behavior, his signaling, his songs, etc. that have ever given me the impression that he’s interested in women. All of this stuff about Krystle seems so nonsensical to me, I don’t think you’ll find a single fan who’s been here since before 2019/2020 who would buy into it.

The other day I was looking for something outside of my dash and I ended up on a page where i couldn't really figure out if they where larries or not, but i read some old posts and they kept saying that rbb and sbb was promo encouraged by their team. And that the bears wouldn't be possible otherwise. I don't know what I want with this message, I just get so overwhelmed reading things sometimes. I make no sense, sorry.

Ehhhhhh I mean, I often have this conversation and thoughts on this because it’s like… some folks believe Harry and louis played it up for fans and they were encouraged to by their team and they did this to ensure larries would stay because they were such a massive part of the fandom, and they wanted to keep us interested etc., but if you believe rbb & sbb were a promo tool, then that is the weirdest marketing strategy I’ve ever heard hahahah.

It just doesn’t add up with the very blatant closeting of larry, and would negate so much of the marketing 1d’s team did. If you were to believe that 1d’s team actually encouraged Larry, to then closet them, to then take the time to signal to us and get larry to do these things we’ve been analysing for years, just for promo, I feel like that’s a bigger conspiracy theory than larry itself.

It just doesn’t make sense for them to do that. And rbb and sbb worked as a tool for larry because they couldn’t really get in trouble for it because it left plausible deniability (except for the time it said “love larry” on it LOL). I just don’t think it’s possible.

But I understand where these folks are coming from - there was literally a Twitter account run by the bears, and a phone number you could call, etc., so it has elements of being a promo tool for sure. But I don’t think it was one created and pushed by their team.

But yes, it was certainly a lovely time!! Who knew two little bears would be out here living in our brains so many years later hahaha 🧡

I'd say that on a scale of 1-10, she's about an 8. She's a household name and an absolute force to be reckoned with. She's the type of famous that she forgets that she is and she'll record herself reacting to tiktoks lying down in bed, make-up free, and just lose her mind laughing. Or there was another time when she took herself out on a brunch date bc Harry went out to play golf that morning. Two girls approached her table and politely greeted her, said how much they loved her and had tickets to see her show that night. But before they could leave, YN invited them to sit with her and spent the rest of the morning eating and chatting with them.

Harry is the more clingy of the two! He's always the one who lays himself on top of her when she's about to get out of bed. Do you think Louis’ promo has been good? I know he’s injured - but even forgetting that a tour of second tier radio stations and record shops for signings is pathetic. Where is the play listing and proper radio/tv exposure? It pissed me off that BMG said we were all teens who knew 1D from our siblings - like wth? I’ve been to 5 Louis shows and the demo was MUCH older. I saw more younger kids at Harry’s show (but a wider demographic overall - more older people than at LTWT - I feel Louis’ fans were 80% female 18-40)

The letter is a bit cringe but I think a few home truths would do BMG well. FITF deserves exposure beyond Louis fans.

How is doing signings and meet and greets at radio stations pathetic though? Louis himself said it’s an opportunity for him to actually MEET fans in cities that may not get opportunities. I got to meet him myself at the Rough Trade signing on Walls release day and it’s an interaction that still fuels my fandom to this day.

Proper TV exposure? You do know Good Morning America is the highest rated morning show in the United States, right? That Live with Kelly and Ryan is syndicated nationally? That he did two major late night shows in the US, and I believe Fallon remains the highest rated of the late night shows. What else do you WANT?

We don’t know what UK tv promo was derailed by his injury, but the strategy clearly had him launching the record in the US and then moving to the UK. We don’t know what may be planned for this winter/spring once Louis is recovered because they are sitting on a goldmine with Written All Over Your Face, and with the TikTok dance starting to pick up steam, I would imagine it will be a spring single.

Have we forgotten Watermelon Sugar was the fourth single off Fine Line? That it took weeks and weeks and weeks for Slow Hands to hit number one? I swear to god, this fandom is all about instant gratification and when they don’t see the results they want, the instinct is to blame the teams and say they are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses. He’s gotten great promo and exposure for this album compared to Walls.

Do I wish some of Louis’ promo was different? Of course. I’d love for him to never talk about Freddie in an interview again and I’d love for him to start steering away from the “the hiatus took me off guard” narrative. But that shit is not in my control and I’m also not going to armchair quarterback LTHQ with an open letter when it is literally not my job nor is it what I’m trained in professionally. P.S. I wrote this 3 weeks ago but was sitting on it. That being said, given the fact that someone took a video of George using the restroom, I thought that now was as good a time to publish it as ever.

I've arisen from the dead to write another think piece that not a single person asked for but that I think is important, and that is the trajectory of the F1 fandom.

I want to start off by saying that not everyone who is a fan of F1 is in fandom and vice versa. Not everyone who watches F1 is heavily involved with the drivers off track. Likewise, some people just read the fanfiction and watch the edits but aren't very aware of the racing (yes, they exist).

That being said, F1 was transitioning from fans to fandom for over a decade. That's due to multiple factors, F1 becoming more entertainment than sport, the lifting of social media restrictions placed on drivers by F1 and the teams. Drivers are now able to have their own social media accounts and independent ventures that help to differentiate and personify them. The transition of members of other fandoms (Justin Bieber, One Direction, Teen Wolf, etc) into F1 as the natural lifetimes of those fandoms end. Of course, this process was sped up exponentially and completed by DTS and the pandemic (this will be relevant later). Now I think we are reaching the inflection point of the fandom which is where my concern stems from.

Every fandom has that one moment where things reach the point of no return. I'm worried because as a 25-year-old veteran of the One Direction fandom whose brain has now fully developed (knock on wood), I know the pattern of how these things end.

Typically, it starts with a collective heightened interest in one or more individuals, people become fans, they give themselves a name, subcultures form (liking certain drivers over others is like picking your kpop bias or 1D fave), the infighting starts and some fights are worse than others (AD21 doesn't even hold a candle to the fights the Larry shippers and non-Larry shippers had in 2013), then comes the literal obliteration of privacy. This is usually done because members of the fandom use information as currency and the more you know, the more dedicated you are, the more you cement your position within this community or fandom that you've built. The side effect of this is the commodification of human beings.

We're seeing the invasion of privacy ramp up right now in a number of ways. It's people demanding insight into drivers' romantic relationships. It's people waiting outside drivers' hotels. It's the fanfiction writing and superimposing of characteristics and qualities onto drivers as a way to feel closer to them. It's full-blown stalking.

Typically, this fever breaks in some sort of peak event where people get hurt, usually socially and psychologically, but sometimes, physically. Then the celebrity has to pick up the pieces. When this happens, it can end in 3 ways. 2 are very common, and the third way is extremely rare.

The first way it can end is by the celebrity losing their mind. I mean this literally, as in a psychological break. It's happened with Britney Spears, Amanda Bynes, Justin Bieber, etc. The pressure and expectations overtake them, and they are unable to continue like they did before.

The second way it can end is seclusion. The more invasive people are, the more they pull back. Think of Dolly Parton, Dan and Phil, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, take your pick. There is a concerted effort to remove themselves from the narrative and return to a sense normalcy. Whether a celebrity falls into either of these first two categories is heavily dependent on their support system.

The last and very rare case is what I like to call the Niall Horan Anomaly. It's the case where you are somehow completely entrenched in fandom and yet manage to exit completely unscathed. Despite being a former member of One Direction, Niall is completely non-polarizing. He has no known enemies and appears to not have any social or psychological damage. He very skillfully navigated fame and fandom and is thriving as a result. This is really difficult to do and I think requires incredible mental strength.

The rise of DTS during a time period where people were socially isolated and turned to reality entertainment to feel connections with others made people latch on to drivers as if they knew them personally. Now that we are on the other side of quarantine, people are taking those online parasocial relationships and transforming them into real life and in-person.

As someone who grew up in an era where people hacked airport and hotel cameras to find out where member of One Direction were going and staying, I know that this is only going to get worse. I hate to put it on the drivers to change their behavior, but the drivers need to be incredibly conscientious about what they share, when, and with who. They also need to enforce hard boundaries and put safety measures in place to ensure that they and their loved ones are safe.

I know that a majority of the people reading this will think I’m preaching to the choir but I’m gonna just say it anyway 😂

I have many reasons for disliking the plethora of women Harry and Louis have been connected to in the media, and not a single one of those reasons has to do with them being women.

I know, I know, crazy right? Except it’s NOT.

Because here’s the thing - yes, I believe Harry and Louis are in a relationship and have been for the last 13 years. But I don’t claim to know how they identify. They could be any number of labels that include attraction to women, and those labels could have changed over time, and to be completely honest, how they identify never really played into my opinion of the existence of their relationship.

(And there are plenty of people for whom this is not true and who will hate every women either of them is ever seen with based on principle or some shit, but I am not one of those people.)

The reasons I don’t like these women are varied and many, but usually boil down to two main things:

1. they are not good human beings, and

2. they are very clearly part of a PR relationship.

I could go back and bore you with the details on each one, but most of you were there or can look it up for yourselves. They were rude to fans who were kind to them. They supported people and things that were not great (or in some cases downright disturbing). They never once looked like they were genuinely excited to be with H or L when the paps were around, and when the cameras were off, even less so. And almost every one of them lasted for a very exact amount of time.

In the end, it came down to me looking at the information I was presented with and using very basic critical thinking. It was me literally seeing with my eyeballs the difference between when they were with these women and when they were with each other - the body language, the genuine smiles vs. the smiles that didn’t reach their eyes, the very poor attempts at holding hands, etc. It’s all there. If you refuse to see it, that’s not my problem.

It was never about them being women 🤷🏼‍♀️

Work I’m least proud of (and why): oooof. prob my sub harry fic. i enjoyed being apart of the fest & i enjoyed the experience, but writing it was so much harder than i’d anticipated & it felt like my writing got very redundant after a few scenes. i’m glad i stuck it out & that i published it, but yeah i def don’t think i did it the justice i’d wanted to.

Share or describe a favorite review you received: i’m really enjoying all the reviews/comments i’ve been getting on my cinderella au! it’s my first chaptered fic that i’m posting chapter by chapter, so that’s been really encouraging. but in general, i appreciate all the comments i get. as a small/new writer, i don’t expect to get any comments at all really, so whenever i do, i get excited. there was a comment on my christmas fic santa, won’t you bring me the one i really need? where someone said it was the best christmas fic they’ve ever read :)

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: the sub harry fic lmao. i love service kink harry fics so i was like alright sweet this will be a no brainer & basically, i fucked around & found out. i literally went through like 5 drafts until i finally found a premise that went w the prompt i was using that i felt i could build off of without turning the fic super predictable & dead end. i think if i’d waited to do that type of fic next year & done more research than i’d done for this one, it would’ve gone much better.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: the beginning of my cinderella au -- i’ve been very vocal about the fact that i write only fluff fics to balance out all the angst in our fandom & then i go & write a cinderella fic & make the first two chapters packed w angst LMAO. it’ll turn around soon, but that’s def the biggest one as of yet for me, i think.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: i’m not sure if i have a favorite tbh, but i like this one from i swear i could give you everything: --------------

“So what have you got for us today, Haz?” Louis asked, knocking on the table with his fists, excitement and anticipation both thrumming through his body.

“Well, I was just messing around in the kitchen last night, really,” Harry began, messing with the hem of his shirt and seemingly determined to continue looking at the floor as he made his way towards the fridge a few feet away from the table Louis was now sitting at. “And then I realized I had the ingredients. So. I just figured. Why not, you know?”

Louis furrowed his eyebrows, trying to piece together what Harry was talking about. All he’d done was ask Harry what he’d made. He guessed the ingredients were relevant to the conversation and he did enjoy listening to Harry talk - even if he really was talking some shit - so he decided to humor him. 

“Oh yeah, sweetheart?” Louis prompted as he placed his elbows on the table and rested his chin on one of his hands.

How did you grow as a writer this year: well let’s start w the fact that i began the year convinced i’d remain a reader & beta forever. so the fact that i’ve published one fic, let alone nine, is pretty big in itself lol. aside from that, i’ve gotten more comfortable writing smut & dialogue. before i wrote fics, i only wrote original stories & never included dialogue, so those were my biggest weaknesses when i first started writing fic & they’re still not my strengths yet, but i’ve definitely gotten better, i’d like to think.

13. How do you hope to grow next year: i def want to get more comfortable writing smut & building sexual tension. i want to write longer fics. i want to finish at least 5-10 of the 20 wips i have lol. i’d love to finish all of them, but 5-10 is a good goal. i want to write some different genres like historical, slow burns, etc.

Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): i have a few! @loveislarryislove is a big one -- if i need help w a metaphor, making sure a sentence sounds right, incorporating tension building touches, brainstorming, honest feedback, etc, annika is my pea in a pod. also @panye, steph is so lovely & helpful when it comes to brainstorming, talking out what phrasing sounds better, she tells me what needs fixing & how to fix it; basically, she’s the better half of our shared brain cell. @zanniscaramouche is pretty much the reason i feel as comfortable as i do writing smut. she’s patient, she gives examples, she’s kind, she knows just how to change wording around to make a description or dialogue top tier. @justanothershadeofblue, is my sprinting buddy (along with zanni when our schedules align!). having a daily sprinting buddy who cheers you on is delightful, especially when they’re as supportive & willing to get sidetracked in off topic convos w me as zjo!

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: gimme everything you got is based on personal experience in terms of the stigmas that come w female masturbation / women being shamed for exploring their bodies. i work in retail, so while that didn’t inspire it’s like i’m powerful with a little bit of tender, it def helped me know bts info lol. lastly, i’ve recently switched my major from psychology to interior design & my minor from interior design to psychology, so i guess my (new) major showed up in you are my destiny (you are the reason that i still believe). hostile work environment was also inspired by my retail job as well LMAO. there’s more in my wips tbh, but as for my currently published fics, that’s it, i think!

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: just remember that how ‘popular’ or ‘unpopular’ your fic may be / may get isn’t an indicator of your talent. write something bc you want to write it, not bc you think it’ll appeal to people. take breaks -- if you’re stuck on a scene or sentence, get up & do something else for a bit. if you keep rereading the same sentence over & over, it’s only going to keep sounding more & more scrambled. you’ll work much better with a clear head & will be able to see where the mistakes -- if any -- actually are.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: my cinderella au for sure! i started a fic inspired by one of my fav fics staring across the room by the lovely @allwaswell16 & it’s been put to the side for much longer than i’ve wanted. i initially put it to the side to get more practice writing tension building, but def want to finish it next year. i also finally started the sequel to my girl direction fic, so that as well. & the sequel to my christmas fic lmao. i have lots of things i need to finish 😭😭

😂 well this one isn't really (a little bc difficult questions but that's another thing), but i saw your next ask and haven't checked the question yet so I'm a bit scared...

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic

write words and hope for the best 😂 well it depends on the idea nd the length of the fic actually. my shorter ones are usually i come up with an idea, i write it, i finish it and post it. they're often done in one sitting or two. some of them are even written on my phone while I'm out on a walk, so then i just look through it on my computer before posting it. there are barely any editing done to these short ones. as for my longer ones with actual plot, i write words and hope for the best 😂 but i also usually have an idea about what scenes to include, so i guess i try to figure out in what order they should come? idk. i don't do much planning, i literally just hope for the best.

7. How do you choose which POV to write from?

honestly? i have no idea 😂 either it's whatever pov i wrote down the idea in, especially when it comes to my short ones that are centered around dialogue. the only fic that I've put serious thought into when it comes to pov is the third chapter of does it always end in heartbreak? I kind of wanted to write and show Louis' pov to see his thought process when he went through what he went through, but i also didn't like how it fit with the rest of the fic since it was all in harry's. also a big reason was the chapter titles, i really liked the harry's story part 1, harry's story part 2 and it felt odd to suddenly be like louis' story. but i think writing the third chapter from harry's pov worked out well, but i guess we'll never know if using louis' would've been better or not 🤷

Work I’m most proud of and why: Don’t Worry, Darling because it was a lot of fun and very difficult to fill in the plot holes the movie had before actually seeing the movie. It was a fun challenge if not the tiniest bit stressful.

Work I’m least proud of and why: The Hazel Woods. I wrote it to satisfy people’s curiosity with another fic I wrote for the wordplay challenge, but it didn’t really work like I wanted.

Share or describe a favorite review you received: Someone commented on a fic and said that they were a sub for life which absolutely warms my heart.

A time when writing was really really hard: Two times come to mind! The Hawthorne Country Club was written when I was traveling via a train, plane, and automobile and during the beginnings of Covid. Don’t Worry, Darling was an absolute time crunch because I wanted to get it posted before the movie was released. I ended up posting it the night it was release though, but the last scene was literally written minutes before it was posted!

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: The end of Don’t Worry, Darling for sure had the most surprising ending! I hadn’t originally planned it (ha! when do I plan anything out) but I had two options in my mind: a nice ending or an evil ending and well ...

A favorite excerpt of your writing: I wrote a poem for Mind of Stone! It’s more a prophecy but damn was it hard to do.  Ichor from child of owl and sea Brings destruction to the three With ashen relics of cursed past Brings solace ever last Evil eye to beware Alters chilling to mortal stare

How did you grow as a writer this year? I don’t feel like I did?

How do you hope to grow next year? Maybe I should start to plan things out and be less chaotic.

Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer? (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc) @disgruntledkittenface​! I think I’ve read Darling, so it goes at least 5 times this year. It is so good! The depth of the characters, the way the story progressed, everything was so well done. It’s the kind of story I hope to write one day.

Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year? I visited Disneyland last year and used it as inspiration for On Your Left!

I dont believe anything from anonymous sources, especially on deuxmoi but i watched the tiktok and didn't believe it at all because she didn't show any proof of him/his security trying to get a girls number but then someone in the replies claimed they saw two girls backstage (with no proof again lol) the only thing that made me question it even a little is the girl posted another tiktok saying the same girls were at the show and even showed a picture of harrys bodyguard (paddy i think is his name) talking to two girls before the show started. I still don't believe harry was trying to get anybodys number while on stage but im just confused on why paddy was in the audience talking to the fans? unless it's just people he knows and not this made-up story fans are spreading.

Hi sugar. I’m just going to address this message because I have a ton in my inbox about this topic, but I think this is just one of those things that is a giant game of telephone with each new person adding some layer of “oh, and I know this thing” and “yes I saw this other thing” but there’s no proof of any of it.

So, first of all, the girl making the videos seemed pretty normal to me. She didn’t seem to be making any of it up. She clearly said in her videos that Harry’s name was never used, it was a security guard who said “I’ll let you know where they’ll be” (or something to that effect). It sounds to me like some sort of after party and Harry’s name was never used (although, easy enough to assume they thought H would be there). In the second video, the two girls were at the second show and told the friend of the person making the video that they didn’t go to meet up with them, and there was a photo of two women talking to Paddy.

So, we all know that the entourage and crew of literally every musician uses their proximity to the star to get laid. It’s been documented countless times from every shitty bar band through tons of big name artists (including One Direction). There are rumors of the artists’ friends hooking up with girls, rumors of bodyguards and bouncers and roadies and producers hooking up with girls… it’s endless. So… given that it was Paddy they were talking to on the second night, I wouldn’t be in the least surprised if he was the one who saw them and got their numbers in the hopes of getting them to come to some after party. They were right at the barricade, so I don’t think it’s that odd that Paddy would talk to them.

I just think of all the confirmed things we’ve ever heard about Harry doing or saying (from endless amounts of people), and the consistent way we’ve seen him behave over the last dozen or so years — towards people in general, but also very much his attitude towards women — I just don’t think any of that sort of this fuck boy image is true. This doesn’t even have to do with Louis or whether they’re together or whether H has slept with lots of different people or even with me thinking he’s gay. To me, he just has always given off a very specific kind of energy that just isn’t consistent with the kind of person who points out girls in the audience to be brought to him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So the bottom line is, I don’t believe anything DeuxMoi or The Daily Mail says. And all these anonymous unsubstantiated stories sound pretty ridiculous to me.

Harry doesn't really like Halloween.

He never really enjoyed trick-or-treating much, not to mention the feeling that anyone could murder him at any point and get away with it. So it was never really his thing.

But, he now has a boyfriend that loves the holiday, and goes all out every year.

Louis didn't tell Harry what he was going to be, only told Harry to dress as an angel. Harry made a dumb joke ("Am I not one already?") and Louis didn't laugh, no matter how much he wanted to. He did get kissed though, so that's a win.

Harry's at Niall's party, waiting for a specific boy to enter the room. Except, he has no idea what to look for since Louis could literally be anything. Hell, he could be in this room right now and Harry would have no idea.

But then, he sees a costume, and he just knows.

Louis is dressed in a loose red cloth shirt, three thick, black, plastic chains circling his waist. His pants are black and oh so tight, the boots on his feet giving him a few inches of height making him almost taller than Harry. There's an upside down cross earring hanging from his earlobe. And to top off the entire costume, there's two large squiggly black horns spouting from Louis' hair.

"You're Satan." Harry states once Louis is in earshot. Louis' smile is so wide as he wiggles his eyebrows, eyeing up Harry in his costume (who, let's be honest, didn't even really try. He found a silk white dress and a cheap pair of angel wings and a yellow halo. He won't be winning any contest anytime soon.)

"I am, and you are my sweet little angel." Louis brings their lips together, "And I can't wait to wreck you later."

Halfway Home Check-in (2023)

I know this is over a month late because of who I am as a person but I still want to do it so shhhhh, a #HashtagGoals update for the year. I started this in June/July but wanted to make some “quick” progress on a few things first -- but then I was not quick oops. 

Numeric goals

Minimum goal: 5 fics and 50,000 words over the year

Aim goal: 12 fics (ideally at least 1 per month) and 80,000 words over the year

Ludicrous goal: 15 fics and 100,000 words over the year 

So far this year, I’ve posted 6 fics totaling about 35k, and I also have around 10k written on another three ongoing projects (edit: those numbers are from July 1st aka actually halfway through the year; now it’s more like 20k on four projects), so I’m definitely going to be fine on the minimum goal. I also have a couple of other fests I’m eyeing or ideas I might do -- and Wordplay is coming up, so that should also help boost the number of fics. I think in terms of number of fics, the Aim goal is totally doable and the Ludicrous goal is definitely plausible. It’s harder to predict word count-wise, since a lot of these upcoming fics are likely to be short, but we’ll see!

I also was inspired by @larry-hiatus​ to make a spreadsheet of all my fics (77 and counting, it took a while haha) with various stats, and the graphs from that were also interesting! Apparently I write Louis POV twice as often as Harry, I switched hard from past tense to present tense in 2017, and I only have 10 fics with more than a few seconds of smut (8 of those written in the last two years).

I’d say I’ve been medium at this. I’ve done some, and I’ve also recently signed up for a couple events as a beta! And I do some editing stuff for work purposes so I guess that could arguably count.

Reading-reading more (both fic and non-fic)

I regret to say that I have forgotten how to read and I literally don’t think I’ve read a book all year oops. Have devoured some fic though. Maybe I’ll read some books when I go on vacation next week. 

Branching out with what I write to explore new fandoms or fandoms I haven’t written for as much, or new pairings within familiar fandoms

The 6 fics so far are evenly split between three fandoms, though all fandoms I’ve written before. I may dabble around for Troped multifandom events, I signed up as a beta for a PJO event, and I’m trying to find a Shiall concept I like for The Show Fic Fest, so definitely still room to keep exploring and diversifying.

Replying to most comments – “all” isn’t always feasible for me, but I’ve been doing probably around 80% and I think that’s a decent proportion

It looks like I’m at around 60% so far this year, so I guess that means it’s time to go on a spree! (edit: those were July numbers again; now I’m at more like 75% which I’m pretty happy with!)

9. Work I’m most proud of and why: A Little Twist of Fate - this fic is so long, probably one of the longest I’ve ever written, and it’s fantasy, which is my favorite genre. Even though it has the least interaction, I don’t think I wrote a better one than that this year.

10. Work I’m least proud of and why: I don’t really have one - I think everything I wrote this year was pretty good 😂

11. Share or describe a favorite review you received: every comment I get is a blessing - I don’t usually get a lot of them, so when someone takes the time out to even say three words about how the fic impacted them, I feel very pleased.

12. A time when writing was really really hard: I would have to say in June and July, when I had four WIPs going at the same time, which my beta will tell you I NEVER DO. I’m a one fic at a time type of person. I couldn’t figure out which one to write or where to take any of them. Thankfully they all got done and published 😂 that and right after my first Harry residency show when I got Covid and it knocked me out for two weeks 😂

13. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: All of the Zouis content I did in A Little Twist of Fate, because it came off so realistic that @daggerandrose thought it sounded like a zouis fic and I was completely unaware that I could even write any pairing other than Larry.

14. A favorite excerpt of your writing: The first time Harry and Louis touch properly in Your Gift Is Wasted On Me:

“Come on, come on,” he heard Harry mutter, and he completely agreed. But finally, they were doing it.

“And the winner …”

Louis held his breath.

“Of this season of the Great British Bake Off is …”

Louis grabbed Harry’s hand, squeezing it tightly as he waited the agonizing three seconds.

“Marge!”

“Fucking yes!” Louis yelled, jumping off the sofa and dancing around. Niall was on his feet too, but as Louis turned to Harry, he found him sitting there, his mouth open slightly, staring at the screen as though he wasn’t even seeing it.

“Harry, what …”

“You held my hand.”

15. How did you grow as a writer this year? I allowed myself to just write. In years past, I kind of did maybe two stories a year just because I wanted them to be different, I wanted the perfect prompt, or I was just lazy as hell. But this year I was pushing out fics every few months and it felt GREAT.

16. How do you hope to grow next year? I hope to possibly enter a fest or two so that I can get a little more traffic on my fics (as well as querying in real life for my finished book and finish writing the new one I’m working on - that’s going to be super exciting)

17. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer? (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc) Every person who helped me work through plot holes and major mistakes and read my work before it was even out - especially @sunflowersometimes @daggerandrose @chloehl10 . They’re my main source of motivation ❤️

18. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year? Not specifically, though I like to think I put a piece of myself into every fic and every character, and if you know me really well, you’ll be able to catch it. But I wrote a fantasy fic which is literally what I want my real life to be so I THINK I’ll go with that 😂

19. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers? Write. Write every day, even if it’s only three pages or three sentences or three words. Write from your heart. Don’t let the interaction - or lack thereof - of others dictate how you feel about your work. Ask other writers to beta for you - it’s more fun when you work with someone else.

20. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year? I have several projects in the works: The Dear Devoted Delicate Series (one mini fic for every year they’ve been together); If There’s No You (an amnesia fic); If We Can’t Stop The Bleeding (a vampire fic); and Place In Me (a 1D reunion fic). I’m sure there will be more but that’s all I really have planned at the moment. Hopefully you’ll get to see them ALL 😘
