So, I don’t do writing recap posts every year because I know that I tend to average 250,000 - 300,000 words a year.

But I wrote 524,090 words in 2024.

Because I had nothing better to do, I decided to recap all of the fics I wrote this year (and made a graphic of it because I was watching too many scrapbook videos) 😘

I'm super impressed that I was able to write 160k+ words this year. From what the internet said, the average length of a novel is around 70k-100k, so the amount I wrote this year is equal to around writing 2 novels 🥳

For extra comparison, Emma by Jane Austen is 150k+ words. So yeah, that's crazy! 😳

A little bit late but I wanted to make a sort of AO3 recap to stick in my writing journal (I'm not savvy enough to get any of the plugins I've found to work so I decided to just make my own from scratch).

In classic neurodivergent fashion, I got completely carried away and spent over an hour in Photoshop.

This is not affiliated with AO3 and is just something I did for myself for fun and procrastination purposes.

three of my favorite works i posted in 2023:

erratum discussions. this is one of my favorite fics ive written in general, i love it so much. while i did finish and post it in 2023, i had also worked on it in 2022. it’s been with me for quite the while now, and every note and kudo and comment means so much to me…i have begun a sequel to this fic! but as i am a slow writer, i cannot promise it will come out any time soon. fun fact: this fic marks the second time spike references a specific mcr song, which has become A Thing for him in my writings, apparently.

frivolities. fun fact: both “erratum discussions” and “frivolities” are lyrics from the song reckless battery burns. “frivolities” comes before “erratum discussions,” and i started writing this one before erratum discussions, so it was only appropriate that i named it that way, in my mind. these two are brothers to me. but anyways, i didnt want to write anything for hawks. at all. in 2022, i posted one hawks imagine and i wanted that to be it…but i couldnt seem to stay away from the little bird <3

in comfort; let me rest my eyes closed. im not nice to spike on most days. but i decided to be for this one. i think the imagery and word choices turned out pretty good! i dont quite remember, but i believe i wrote this in a day or two—so it makes me happy it was pretty well received <3 fun fact for this one: the title takes lyrics from an english cover of the chainsaw man opening.

10. What fic made you the happiest to work on?

Without a doubt, writing Singing Along to the Start fo Forever has been the happiest I'd ever been in my long history of fandom haha. Someone once told me reading it is like falling in live for the first time and writing it was not much difference! All of the songs that I found for Heresy inserts, the little modern worldbuilding for this fic, finally, finally getting them together at last after so much teasing... It all adds up and I'm still grinning ear to ear about that fic.

Going to try and pop the next chapter this month if I can, I'm eager to get back to that happy place again!

paramour writing recap (xxiii)

date: 10/10

chapter being worked on: 9 — masquerade FINALLY DONE!!! its terrible but its done. also, paramour is 50 pages now total!!

word count: edit; it’s now 1,119 words bc i just edited the part i hate so it’s a little less terrible

feeling: god i'm so ready to be done with this chapter. it needs A LOT of work that i don't really feel like doing right now lmao.

favorite line written: despite hating a lot of this middle section i finished whenever amon and hya are in a room together suddenly i know how to write lol

I've been wanting to do a weekly (or so) "writing recap" to track how much I write each week (brain feel good when word number go up) so here I go for the first one. (Titles subject to change but some of my AU's names are crazy so using temp names)

IWTTSFY (post-canon fic): first draft done, in need of editing. I already know a few things I'm gonna change/expend on, and there's a scene I'll probably move to a one shot post fic. I've been in the mood to read it again recently so gonna do that soon. 48.309 words.

IWFILWY (post post canon one shots): started brainstorming one of the one shots. It's gonna be the second or third in the series so I'll need to hold off writing it down until I've outlined the rest, lest I need to change the whole thing afterwards. 925 words.

If you were easy to kill: need to sit down and outline it. My ideas are too vague and I keep getting stuck. It's gonna need a complete rewrite anyway cause I want to switch from second person pov to third person. 49.224 words.

Birds of passage: currently in the "just write it down" phase. It's all outlined, and I'm already noticing things I'll need to improve when editing. 25.605 words.

Happiness tidal: brainstorming phase. God a good skeleton so far, just gotta keep at it. 3.939 words (damn that's a long outline lol).

Hunter sequel (from DurgeHeart week): early brainstorming phase. Just writing down random ideas to see if I can figure out a sequel worth writing. I really like this AU and would love to write a bit more about it. 409 words.

One post canon world and the rest are random AU's I thought of at one point. Yes it's all Hymn x Shadowheart lmao.

Out of everything I've written, I feel like I had the most fun writing this one. Everything was flowing. Everything was clicking. I had fun writing dialogue, which I rarely do. And it was genuinely a good day that day.

This... this is a whole different kind of psychic damage here. When nightmares got Marcille, we get to knew that her's biggest fear is outliving her friends. This isn't even canon probably, but look at this. This isn't a "I don't want my friends to die" kind of dream. This is a "I'm terrified of loosing my daughters, of something killing them, and being incapable of stopping it" kind of dream. It's so simple yet it explains perfectly the whole of chilchucks character. He loves, he cares, deeply. But he, or doesn't acknowledges, or doesn't know what to do with that knowledge.

Besides that. Someone had to wake him up after this. Imagine the devastation in this man after he wakes up. He just saw his three little babys murdered corpses (or maybe he saw them die, wich isn't better). He would possibly not talk about it, and that would worry the hell out of the party, because we'll, they see him all down and only one of them knows what he saw. Imagine being the one to pull him from that nightmare. Seeing this man, usually so composed, fuking staring with tears and terror in his eyes to the composes of what you can only assume are his daughters. It would be heartwrenching.

rahhh this looks like fun!

1. i tried alternating povs as well as making a story that is 20+ chapters long! i might continue doing alternating chapters, but anymore stories that have more than 20 chapters might need to be shelved for the sake of my sanity 😭

2. i have outlined four fanfics, one of which is unpublished but a wip. the other is WTHI, which is not yet finished!

3. i learned that i’m a very impulsive and disorganized and wordy writer. don’t get me wrong, it works in my favor most times, but there’s no guarantee i might completely mess up the outline due to a really good idea

24. it surprised me how much i had to say about each member of the company. i anticipated that i would be less wordy when it came to the company, but they all had personalities and stories begging to be written, and just took over the entire fic!

26. oh my goodness, when i finally got to reveal the plot twists in chapters 8-9 in WTHI! i loved seeing my reader’s reactions to the twist i’ve been planning since beginning the story!
