I'm not gonna reblog the post because it's super long and mostly about Saris (and how it's fine for white people to wear them for any reason they feel like) but there was like a two-sentence mention of how some people (wrongly) think it's not okay for non-Japanese people to wear kimono.
First of all ime most Japanese people's reaction to a foreigner wearing a kimono is "oh my god, rad!!"
Second of all a kimono is literally just. A garment. The complex, intricately patterned, vividly colored kimono that people associate with the word "kimono" is just a really fancy expensive dress.
(there's a history associated with the making of really nice and beautiful kimonos because the hand woven fabric and the carefully planned and placed designs and theme/meaning of the imagery and colors and the traditionally made dyes used mean that that expensive kimono is a work of art in the same way that a painting in a museum is a work of art. Some Japanese people use kimono as an artistic expression, and honoring those carefully made and often historically significant pieces is honoring the talent and hard work that went into creating them, not honoring like. The concept of clothes. Someone, even a Japanese person, acquiring a priceless kimono and then slam-dunking it into the trash would cause outcry not because "white person" but because "HEY MY ARTWORK :(")
But there are very plain and cheap kimono and mid-price kimono and knockoff kimono made in like Sri Lanka and imported and sold to tourists. Both men and women historically wore and still wear (differently styled according to presenting gender) kimono, both expensive ones to important events and regular ones to other places and times where they feel like wearing one. It's like the difference between wearing a nice dress to a wedding and a sundress to the local garlic festival.
Similarly, there are special types of garments (I can't be arsed to look up the proper names for these) that are for religious and/or cultural ceremonies ONLY, and those are often made specially for the person who will be wearing them or have been handed down through the family and thus have family significance (like a family crest). If the garment wasn't made with specific-you in mind, then it's weird and rude for you to walk around wearing it in the same way people are gonna side-eye you for showing up at mass dressed up like the priest. But the takeaway here is that in the phrase "special clothing" the important word is "special," not "clothing."
Get a kimono if you want. Plain, fancy, made in Japan, made in Finland, whatever. Put it on, run around in it. Do housework in it. Wear it wrong. Set it on fire. No one cares.

Just wanted to mention this to someone who does art and get their opinion on it:
Sometimes I see some artists do redraws of their old artworks or characters and think "Wow, uh... their older art looks better." Sometimes it's only mildly better, but other times it's vastly better. Like the Upgrade, Go Back! meme.
I understand that art skills are supposed to develop and change, hopefully for the better, but sometimes it just feels like they got... worse? Somehow? Idk. Maybe it's because they were copying another artist's style while finding their own, and it's their own style that doesn't vibe with me? Just curious what your thoughts are about this.
Also, your art has consistently been great, so this isn't directed at you.
I do see this on occasion yeah! usually (in my experience anyway) its because people take a sharp turn towards a stylization that either isn't to your or most people's tastes, or that they don't understand or are still developing. switching up how you stylize your art is like starting over in a sense, you're changing from what you have practice with and that's always going to cause you to revert some as you have to re-learn things you understood in your previous style. i had a pretty big style shift in 2014 when i took up the basis for how my art looks now, and i remember feeling like some of the stuff i was drawing might have looked better if i was using my older style instead. that's something artists just have to push through and figure out, and they'll likely come out of it a better artist than they were before. constructive critiques are a good way for them to figure out why their art might not be as "good" as it used to be, if they're open for those.
art is not always a linear journey, and i would also say things like passion and motivation have a part in it too. feeling inspired sparks you to make something the best it can be, if you're not feeling it (and esp if that feeling lasts for a long time) it'll leave you making decisions you otherwise would not have let fly, and that can result in worse art. and some of it is just personal preference! it's not that their art is better or worse, it's just different now, and maybe that doesn't vibe with you the same way their old stuff did. and that's fine 👍
(thank you! :3 i admittedly struggle a bit with Not Feeling It sometimes like i just described, so it's nice to know people still enjoy what i make when that feeling hits.)

When Robin was first introduced, she had been working with Crocodile in Alabasta for the past several years, so I could understand her skin tone being a little lighter than it used to be, but not this bad.
It's extremely fucked up. I would understand the "it was an animation error" argument if it wasn't because it happens with all the characters (not only Robin) and they're whiter and whiter each episode (even the characters that should be black).
If we follow irl reasoning as you say, then all of them should be tanned because they're pirates. They're constantly under the sun. But no, they go backward and instead, they lack melanin every episode. It was already bad, but Egghead fucked up big time.
And don't get me started on Usopp because people could use that excuse on any other character, but Usopp?? I truly, really, don't think it takes too much thinking to get that he's black and Toei just keeps making him paler than Sanji. It's ridiculous and racist and people who ignore it or say it's been talked "too much" (because people say it and apparently there's a limit for them as to how much you can complain about racism) always get on my nerves.
What Toei is doing is just disgusting and people defending it are always the ones who refuse to see any mistakes in the things they like. News flash! You can like something and admit it has mistakes.
