It's actually insane how much Twilight was the blueprint for my fixation on Jon. You know, I think the reason I've never been big on the idea of Abigail not actually being Abigail is because it's just so much more fun and fucked up if it Is Abigail and it's partly because of the whole watching your twin die over and over, but it's also because holy shit does Wendy say some shit that sucks so bad to say when Abby is literally Right Next To Him. Like imagine your fucking twin constantly talking about you like you're not there, all while also being constantly held up as the only thing keeping him going, and then he pulls out the "I have nothing worth protecting" and it's just all like godddd this kid's shitty coping mechanism of being an edgelord is causing him to unintentionally be such a dick sometimes and that is so fucking delightful to me. Abby has spent god knows how long watching her twin die and treat her like a past tense and like a concept and most of the cast don't even refer to her by name and it's unclear if she can even talk to them and that's all on top of literally being a ghost who is bound to death seemingly irreversibly and all of that while shes like 12. No wonder she kills moles and rabbits for doing nothing lol

Matt's faith in the show is really important and well explored; one of the first scenes of the show is Matt going to confession (or, well, talking to his priest since he's not really confessing at that point). Matt struggles a lot with what he's supposed to do; everyone's telling him to kill the villain and he kinda wants to, but he literally says: "I know my soul is damned if I take his life". He struggles with his faith and goes with his doubts to his priest, and it's beautiful—also when he finally gets a costume for his vigilanteing he chooses to dress as the devil, lol. (His priest tells him that nothing makes people run to Church faster than the feeling of having the devil on their heels.)

a lot of the show is about how he justifies his vigilante actions with his faith, and whether he's doing the right thing in trying to help people or just using it as an outlet for his anger. the literal first scene of the show has him in a confession booth talking to his priest (who is a really interesting character too). this is not the scene I was talking about but it's such an excellent scene with matt talking to his priest: https://youtu.be/XHZ3NbEIDdw

honestly i dont wanna type too much but i feel that matt is a great example of someone who battles with his faith because he rarely loses his faith but rather fights with why he was made the way he was and put through what he was. He believes himself to have the devil inside him but believes that God put him there

ok in the comics barring the most current run matt has Mostly been a non-practicing Catholic that very rarely actually does any catholic Activities but ends up falling back into the Mindset and very occasionally dramatically taking confession (ex. in that one issue where he takes confession, basically tells the father that he is uniquely terrible and is thinking about violently murdering someone and when the father says "you can be forgiven" hes like "AUGFH-- NO!!!!!!!!!!" and runs out) when he's gone through some shit. and i love that its so relatable

This guy so catholic he spends an ungodly amount of time just chilling in the church. And goes there whenever there is a moral conundrum about killing people being Bad even though it would solve a lot of problems and stop said people from killing other people. This happens every other episode. Matt is the Catholic Guilt Guy. There's actually a lot of catholic stuff in the show as a whole. Just a compilation would be like three whole episodes long.

Hes great hes catholic enough to not outrught murder people but not catholic enough to not fuck before marriage hes a bisexual disaster at all times hes besties with a priest might i add hes great hes my special little guy

his catholicism is a huge piece of his characterisation he was raised by nuns in a catholic orphanage, the first scene we ever see him (as an adult and not a flashback) is him going to confession, he is good friend with his priest and has regular debates with him, etc also in s3 he has a huge crisis of faith after he lost A Lot where he stops believing for a while and it's linked to his identity crisis where he actually wants to kill another person (a hard line he previously chose never to cross) and wants to be only daredevil and not matt murdock, when he is both and needs both to exist also when he was a kid his grandmother used to say "watch out for the murdock boys, they've got the devil in them" and it created a surprising lot of his issues

So he's both catholic in the comics and the show but he's More Catholic in the show. Like, raised in a catholic orphanage by nuns (ONE OF WHICH IS HIS *MOTHER*), second scene in the show has him in a confession box kind. Matt Murdock goes out and gets the shit beaten out of him nightly and also beats the shit out of other people and purposefully leaned into devil iconography as his theme. When his nurse friend says, he takes a lot of punishment without one complaint he says "That part's the Catholicism." It is a Core Aspect of his character (at least in the show). He makes me insane. Also the same chemicals that blinded him created the teenage mutant ninja turtles and everyone should know that.

They went to confession to a priest who they had saved as their costumed counterpart and the guy recognized them by the voice, proving that it's possible and everyone else is just dumb

he takes "i wanna fight god" to new and incredibly violent levels, while also being a sweetheart and a goofball

Actually strictly WILL NOT kill criminals. Goes wayyy out of his way to avoid it. Fights with the Punisher about it. Goes to confession booth after nightly vigilante excursions. Feels so much guilt. "How have you been holding up?" "Like a good Caltholic boy" "that bad huh" - actual conversation with his priest

So Daredevil struggles with his mission as a crime fighter because killing criminals goes against his faith. He makes it a point to not kill criminals, believing that even bad people deserve a second chance. This philosophy puts him at odds against The Punisher, who is a relentless killer. As a Catholic myself, while I love the concept of a morally conflicted superhero, I think the worldbuilding around Daredevil is lacking. If he struggles with violence and killing, why doesn't he pray to warrior saints like Saint Michael, Saint Ignatius of Loyola (a former knight), or Saint Joan of Arc? Why isn't there a community of other Catholics he can turn to for guidance, considering New York City has a sizeable population of Catholics? And why are the churches he goes to always empty? Doesn't he know that the Catholic Church supports the just war theory? I think that would have made his burden more bearable.

He goes to church and confesses to punching people and says "imma do it again can i apologize in advance" and the father dude says "no you're meant to stop now" and Matt says "no" and they do this everyday. I'm not remembering it properly but this is a canon interaction i swear

i love him for having the funniest version of a trope i usually hate (person gets into confession booth and asks forgiveness not for what they've done, but for what they're about to do). usually this trope just looks silly to me bc like. the priest would just say "i can't do that" and you would have to either awkwardly explain yourself or just Leave. it's funny when matt does it because fr. lantom is probably like "what are you gonna do???" and matt's like "lol. lmao. 😊 hehehe." anyway we love this angry catholic man who dresses up like the devil to beat people up in hell's kitchen

I'm pretty sure you've already got plenty of submissions for her so I'll just say she was raised in what is basically a cult (technically a nunnery but let's be real) dedicated to keeping the body of the thing that will kill God behind the rock. One of their prayers is actually "I pray the rock is never rolled away". Harrow is extremely devout as penance for her earlier heretical actions in the tomb as a child (spoiler!) so the Catholic guilt really comes through

imagine being a catholic nun and you meet god, but it turns out he’s a twitch streamer from new zealand who became god because everything got a little bit out of hand. and just before you met him you gave yourself a diy grief-fuelled lobotomy with the help of your best frenemy. imagine how insane you’d be. now multiply that insanity by nine. that’s the fictional love of my life right there.

she’s number one practitioner of space Catholicism. The locked tomb is chock full of Christian (catholic) imagery themes metaphors etc. just look at her she’s got a bone rosary

They're Catholicism with extra bones. Everyone is a nun. They have what is basically a rosary made from knuckle bones. They technically worship the same God as everyone else, but they're waaaay more focused on The Body in the Tomb (Mary) and we get a moment where we find out that while everyone else prays the equivilent of The Lords Prayer, they're doing the equivilent of Hail Mary. And they paint their faces with skulls.

She thinks leaving dry bread in a drawer is taking care of someone. She's in love with a 10,000 year old corpse (the same one they worship). She spent ALL NIGHT digging with her bare hands to make sure a field had bones every 5 feet so she could fight her girlfriend - I mean, greatest enemy. Spoiler territory: She's been puppeting her parents corpses since she was 8 years old. Instead of grieving her dead girlfriend, she gives herself a lobotomy. She makes soup with bone in it so she can use the bone IN THEIR STOMACH to try and kill them.

this is my favorite of your recent works and the only thing I can think about when this image is in front of me is (well, my brain turns to mush in awe mostly) but THE SHAPES. i will now point out all my favoritest little details because I’m obsessed w your art

first we have poofs. these shapes make my brain so happy it’s like my favorite shape ever and that’s why I love Venti’s design so much AND YOU JUST MAKE THAT EVEN BETTER!!!! 

like just look at that perfect curve!! it’s so pointy in it’s roundness and it’s so voluminous and just the epitome of *poof*

your clothing fold lines are also incredible the convey so much while being so simple it makes me rrrrhwhrhbwbsbnsnfnf this sleeve in particular

and can we talk about how you do the corset shape. PLEASE can we talk about it my brain goes nuts for it because like corsets are stiff and they bend strongly AND THE ANGLE OF THIS LINE!!!

no bc like literally all the things you've pointed out are some of the things i especially love to do when drawing characters!!! i love folding and creasing fabric to emphasize a pose, i love the complex elegance of muscle shapes on bone structure of the body, i love drawing facial expressions!!! and your wonderful detailed remarks being done on a page of venti drawings i did makes me so happy too frfr because even though i've sort of moved away from genshin-posting here, he's a character that i've really loved and loved to draw since the start, and all the things you've commented on from this page are little things that i had at some point made conscious decisions to do when i draw venti in particular fjdjhghh little things like the hair and clothing never falling straight down bc i want it to seem like hes always moving or drifting or theres always a little breeze surrounding him! and giving him rlly big smiles and expressive faces because of how wide his range of emotions is in the story and his voices !! and wings and feathers are things that i'm constantly doodling and messing around with in my sketchbook so it .im just :)) reading this has made me feel very warm and fuzzy inside and like actually i cant thank you enough for taking the time to just?? do all this??? ;o; not what i expected to see today

Sexuality Headcanon: ANYTHING THAT MOVES, BAYBEE!!! (in particular i'm fond of them having a kind of aromantic thing going on, in a 'doesn't feel romantic attraction, ie doesn't experience crushes or anything, but still ends up in relationships that get forged over time' sense, if that makes sense lol. i don't tend to label my sexuality/etc headcanons but i suppose you'd call them aro-bi or something adjacent.)

Gender Headcanon: gingi is gingi. i default to they/them pronouns for them but i reckon they don't actually care that much lol. i also don't see their head type, which i imagine they can vary, as having much tie to gender/pronouns/presentation at all. it probably means, in their weird green little brain, something incredibly esoteric and specific that none of us humans can comprehend

A ship I have with said character: ghaahh is All Of Them an option? all of the datables have such good dynamics i feel weird comparing em, lol. normgingi, in a sort of queerplatonic marriage sense, i'm especially fond of as a ch3 enjoyer. but all of them really make me smile. even non-datables, gingi is really fun to stick next to just about any character lol. i'm really excited for roger dlc and to have More characters to smush them up against

A BROTP I have with said character: guys i go absolutely bananas, very specifically, over the vision i have in my brain of a gingi+callum friendship. i both love them coexisting just, like, thematically, and literally - in ch3, compared to norm and mingus, gingi is the one to think of callum for who he really was: for better and worse, gingi is a very honest and simple person, and i think that kind of person who will accept him for who he is currently, rather than constantly mourning who he used to be, would be good for callum. i have a very sweet scene in my head of gingi visiting him, much to mingus' worry, and then they just. chill very pleasantly by his side. it makes me smile lots

A NOTP I have with said character: ...mmmmm uhhh uhhhhhh...???? i don't really have one? none that i see around that i would have that strong of opinions on. i once saw them x theoroar in like a yandere sense but i cant even be mad at that one thats just really funny

A random headcanon: you can tell, looking through my dt tags, the MOMENT i became enlightened about fat gingi. i know it doesn't really fit textually, they're often described as pretty scrawny, but it just makes me smile. and it's fun to draw. the joy of six moobs.

General Opinion over said character: MY FAVORITEST DIALTOWN CHARACTER EVERRR EVER SINCE WE STARTED THIS GAME 💚💚💚 dt has such a varied and fun cast and i adore them all - but gingi themself meshes with all of them so well and is so fun to read in every situation. i was very very charmed by dt's sense of humor, as it reminded me a lot of mid-2010s humor i liked a lot when i was younger, and gingi's the best show of that. i read their dialogue in the inflection of friends i had in middle and high school. they're just so smile-inducing to read goofing around and i adore them so much. they warm my heart in every scene they're in. their energy makes me so happy and is very fun to read. and this isnt even touching upon how excellently i think they're written - how their humanity is shown time and time again despite the game's premise hinging on "funny weird inhuman thing" - as you care more about dialtown's story and populace, you care about gingi as a "person" more and more. and that's why mingus' plan is so cruel. it's put together so well :'D gingi in ch3 in general i could dedicate so much analysis to. i love the development of this lil green freak so much.

honestly I can't get the idea of sirius cooking and this leading to him + harry bonding out of my head. personally, i don't think he can cook that well. guy grew up w house-elves at home + hogwarts, and after that had enough money that he decided to live what he thought was the muggle food experience and just ate take away or leeched off of james + lily's cooking. i imagine effie taught him a bit, but considering he went to azkaban for 12 years he probably forgot most of it. enter: harry, when he comes to stay with sirius, and sirius isn't about to let harry do any work so he decides to cook for him bc no way is he letting kreacher anywhere near anyones food. only problem is he has no clue how to properly cook a meal, and he sure as hell isn't going to ask molly and he's not sure of remus' cooking skills, but he decides to try anyway (it doesn't turn out great), and seeing this harry rolls up his sleeves and teaches sirius to cook. obviously harry is probably pretty good from his days as a live-in chef at the dursleys, and i like to think sirius is a quick learner, so this leads to a ritual of there's where they cook together every dinner. their bonding time is cooking different dishes, and in the end they have too many cookbooks to count

dude. DUDE. this is literally one of my favoritest headcanons ever. i think i’ve put it in some fic too?

i also think sirius learnt a bit from effie and the forgot in azkaban so it was like. a bit tough for him ykno? and he’s picked up bits n pieces from james (like aloo paranthas and chai!!) but that’s the extent of it.

until harry comes in, experienced as a chef. and the first time his godson makes a full meal for him, he’s like :O

(and then the meaning of that, why harry would know how to cook so well at such a young age, hits him and he just. really wants to burn something to the ground then)

and i think cooking was a way for them to break the ice too like, once all the chaos dies down and harry’s living with sirius, u just have two strangers sharing the same house ykno? it’s gonna be awkward as fuck. and i imagine sirius shouting the house down bc he’s trying to make breakfast or lunch for harry one day but it goes very wrong and harry comes down to what looks like a crime scene (the tomatoes weren’t cooperating) and just goes 😧😧

he then, hesitantly, offers to help sirius but only if he wants to no pressure harry’s not even that great a cool he just thought—

and sirius, ofc, is jumping w joy at being able to spend time w his godson so he says yes. and just. that’s it. that’s where it all begins. hours and hours of getting to know each other, hearing stories of the past, talking about anything and everything—it’s priceless.

and they keep it going even when sirius had learnt to cook super well, even after harry moves out and gets married and has kids. their weekly cooking together time is sacred and the entire potter-black family knows that.

Heath’s Ultimate Horror Recs; A MASTERPOST.

We’ll start off with my letterboxd top four (in no true order)

1. The Thing (1982)

First of all, it is unanimously agreed that the only way this movie could have been improved would be if Kurt Russel had worn a crop top that said “baby slut”. This movie has everything and is one of the (if not the original) Imposter movies. It takes place in the arctic, and is a little bit creature, gore, and psychological horror. It’s smart and it's fun! Not too scary, but a good time for sure.

2. Cabin in the Woods (2011)

Please ignore that Joss Whedon made this as it is, unfortunately, INCREDIBLY fun. Like so much fucking fun. It’s a movie that completely deconstructs horror movie tropes, and I don’t mean that in a pretentious not-like-the-other-movies way. It literally deconstructs them, and has the most ridiculous half-twist at the end that really just ties it all together. If you like final girls, and every possible horror movie villain you could get your hands on, this is the movie for you. If you don’t already know the plot, go in blind.

3. Possession (1981)

NOBODY, NOBODY, NOBODYYYYYYYY. This movie personifies what it feels like to have a Mitski-induced breakdown. I believe it was banned for a time in much of Europe upon release for going too hard. It’s not really like “demon on the ceiling. gotta call the exorcist” and more like “go stupid go crazy”. Gets More and More as it goes on. Bonus points for Sam Neill, an underrated horror guy. Foreign Film. 10/10.

4. Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Literally ahead of its time. Girls kiss girls kiss boys kill boys kill girls. Yeah. I’m using the word- it’s camp TO ME. Again, not particularly scary (that’s what the next section is for) but it is very fun and also it is a romantic tragedy. I don’t know what else to say.

Okay. Now the ones that really got me good (that are rec’able)

1. Hereditary

Did I like the plot of this movie? No. Did I like this movie? No. Did I leave the theater wanting to crawl out of my skin and throw said skin into the trash with the popcorn? Yes. Rancid vibes, and for that it gets #1. Personally, it hit all my marks for going NOPE. -1000/10. (Really though, I thought the plot was dumb but my god was this movie the literal definition of horrific.)

2. The Descent (2005)

I watched this movie at FAR too young of an age. I was like 8. My mom showed it to me because she thought it was cool. It made me scared of the dark for the next decade of my life. I’m a bit desensitized to horror at this point so I didn’t find it that scary upon rewatch. However, it’s my favorite combo of creature, proper build up, character-driven, and action-y. Also it’s a literal blood bath. :^)

3. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

This movie is not a classic horror, but it did fill me with immense dread and shock and it has a left a lasting impression on me. You are a girl who gets in a car crash and wakes up in a bunker with John Badman (?) and another guy and he’s telling you the world has ended outside and that if you were to leave you’d immediately die. Except there’s no way to know if he’s telling the truth. I remember my body physically hurting from the stress after watching this for the first time.

4. It (2017)

I’m not above the clown movie. Listen, was it cosmically horrific? No! But it did have a bunch of good scares and it’s honestly one of my favorite ensemble cast movies to have ever been made. The sequel can die in a dumpster fire though. I still squirm in my seat for a few scenes even though I know Mr. Skarsgard is gonna pop out.

Conceptual Absolute Fuckin’ Bangers ( and/or amazing visuals)

1. A Quiet Place (2018)

I held my breath the entire movie, and so did the rest of the theater because it pulls you in so well. Bawled my eyes out. Amazing story, and it keeps your nerves frayed the entire time.

2. Candyman (1992)

My most favoritest slasher. Actually perhaps the only slasher I will recommend. Underhyped, a story less told and it just feels different in a nice way. It has everything, including the Looks.

3. Crimson Peak (2015)

High drama, and arguably the prettiest visuals I’ve ever seen. Definitely a vibe-based movie and not for everyone. Guillermo Del Toro at his prettiest. I would read the content warnings though, because the plot is also not for everyone.

4. Queen of the Damned (2002)

I’ll use the word again. Camp. This movie almost made me become a Vampire Person (notorious werewolf person). It’s ridiculous and bad but its also good and a vibe and everyone is very hot so what’s not to love.

5. Nope (2022)

MY BABY MY BAAAAAAAAAABY MY BAAABBY MY BABBBYYY MY BABY. Zero criticism, it’s just not on my top four horror list because I don’t think it’s a horror. I think its a sci-fi suspense action mystery masterpiece with horror as an undertone. Literally best movie of the decade.

6. Re-Animator (1985)

Cult classic. And a classic example of they made it so subtext gay that now its just text gay. Ridiculous. Body horror abound. 10/10.

7. Alien (1979)

Can you say anything bad about this movie? No. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, but it’s very good. And of course the Face Huggers and Chest Bursters can never get enough of their dues for being icons.

8. The Ritual (2017)

Please just trust me. If you like what Nope did with The Design, you might like this movie. Because ohhhh ohhhh The Design. The first two-thirds I quite enjoy, the last third loses me a bit but then I really like the last scene. But yeah. The Design. Also spooky and fun. And it’s on netflix! Nice!

Here for a fun time, not a smart or “good” time!

1. Pitch Black (2000)

Yes, I am recc’ing a movie that stars Vin Diesel. I like Riddick. Die mad about it. But I also like this movie a lot! It’s bad in a 2000s sci-fi kinda way. But it commits to what it does and I like the characters. Shoot me. Nice blend of horror and action.

2. Tremors (1990)

Heath Lore: for like four years in a row I made my friends watch this on my birthday. It’s so very dumb and also so very fun. And. Gay cowboys. Yeehaw. (There are two sequels made prior to like 2008, and I have also watched those. They are even more dumb.)

3. Poltergeist (1982)

My mom also showed me this movie when I was about 6 or so. Traumatized me for life. I was a little bit paranoid about EVERYTHING. I’m re-watching for the first time in a long time this year, but honestly this movie goes so hard and for what. To be rated PG? That’s how my mom convinced me to watch it.

4. Brain Damage (1988)

gonna be honest. went full monkey brain during this one. main character...sexy. this concludes my thought process. it’s very dumb and bad, and i would probably read the trigger warnings before you watch it.

5. The Evil Dead (franchise)

So much happening, I would argue none of it “good”. Fun time.

6. The People Under the Stairs (1991)

Spoiler alert: there are people under the stairs. A movie where I kept yelling WHAT?! W H A T?! Amazing. 10/10.

Modern Horror Gems (not Oscar Worthy)

1. The Conjuring (2013)

I really like this movie. It’s not perfect and it’s not innovative, but I think it was well made and I think the scares are good. Also Ed and Lorraine Warren (movie versions, not the real people) are relationship goals for real.

2. Shutter Island (2010)

There is definitely a lot happening in this movie. Psychological. Story driven. I did like it though.

3. Revenge (2017)

Action, thriller, horror. Woman stuck with a group of bad men in the middle of the desert. Woman seeks Revenge with a capital R. French film, very violent.

Final category: Movies that make you go Huh?!

1. Titane (2021)

Such a weird fucking movie. So fucking weird. So fucking weird. French film.

2. Eraserhead

I discovered my love for brown noise through this movie and fell asleep within thirty minutes. I liked it quite a bit though, I think, when I finished it the next day.

hmmm.... i like genuine surprises, like when an author updates a fic after a while, but i hated planned surprises?? like when people plan to Surprise Me with A Thing, i don't like that very much. mostly bc i hate the social expectation of formulating a response aljsdlkfjsdkjf

now in terms of writing, surprises like "oh here's a new headcanon about ur OC" that just...happen...to me while i'm writing get mixed reactions aksldjfdsk sometimes im SUPER EXCITED bc it makes xyz easier, sometimes i get irrationally angry bc DAMMIT NOW I HAVE TO CHANGE XYZ TO FIT. most of the time, tho, writing is just. surprise after surprise lmao

i am reading a Linked Universe-related fic that i would recommend but a) i'm not dragging myself in public for that alskdjfkdjf and b) it has A Lot of Stuff that i would want to warn about before ppl jump into it. it is fucking GODS-TIER level good, and i'm in a discord with the author and some other fans and it's just...so much fun, i love that series and the discord sm. if u wanna know what it is, just dm me!

ohhhhhh okay, so this is a headcanon for mateo, my dp oc that i ship with danny. i wrote it out SOME in "stay for dinner?" but its full implications haven't been revealed yet, so here ya go!

mateo is a WONDERFUL liar. like. scary good at it. and its not bc he enjoys it, or whatever, but it was a coping mechanism he developed while dating this guy, santiago 'tiago'. kid was tryna be big and get in good with the gangs and dragged mateo along with him. mateo, young and naive, went along with it bc he liked tiago and he was slowly figuring out that he was attracted to danger so he didn't realize how bad it was until it was too late. after they broke up, the lying didn't necessarily go away, he just stopped doing it so often. but lying IS a skill that's needed, and he uses it when he needs to with danny (especially after his core begins to develop)

HOWEVER. he can't lie about like. petty shit?? or like when danny catches him doing something silly and calls him out (teasing) on it, he is suddenly THEE WORST LIAR ON THE PLANET (which just in turn reinforces the idea that he's a terrible liar overall to danny, which protects mateo's secrets further). danny's also oblivious, so he doesn't often catch him in a true lie. THAT is reserved for vanessa, emrys, manaia, luke, and eventually, dan. basically, everyone but danny (and nikau, poor bab) can see it alsflksjdfl

the phoenix cloth, as its namesake implies, symbolizes rebirth. in order to earn it, the potential saint must perform its trial - a trek down the active volcano where the cloth sleeps. it is... heavily implied that the only phoenix saint we see in canon actually died on that journey, but the constellation took a shine to him and brought him back to make him its warrior. i don't mean to take this too literally, but. i think you can see what i'm trying to get at by applying this idea to shanoa. someone who was supposed to die. but didn't, couldn't stay dead. for better or for worse.
