Good Dad Paz ficlet
i;’m fukkin. sobbing. apparently all i needed to write was an episode of mandalorians being DADS and loving their kids who knew
Post 3.1 canon divergence, Paz decides to go after Din on his epic roadtrip to Mandalore. din is sir not appearing in this ficlet
Mando’a I decided didn’t have an acceptable substitute in English that vibed:
alor: title indicating a leader
---
The day after Din left, when the Armorer reminded them that redemption could only be achieved through the Living Waters, Paz's first thought was, 'What kind of fool would go to a poisoned planet?'
His second thought was the horrifying realization that Din was absolutely that kind of fool.
Then Paz immediately started packing, because apparently so was he.
"Do you go to aid him, or to dissuade him?" the Armorer asked, standing on the landing pad below as he shoved supplies into the battered Z-95 Headhunter. It had taken another day just to requisition the ship, waiting for its return from offworld while Din's trail grew ever colder. The covert only had a few ships available and most were constantly in use; Paz's decision to requisition the starfighter had not been looked upon kindly.
"When has he ever done anything but what he wanted?" he grunted, wedging his assault cannon into the space behind the Headhunter's seat. He'd scrounged together enough supplies to last him a week, pulled mostly from his own reserves, and had items for barter stowed away should he make landfall on a populated planet.
"He is an apostate," the Armorer pointed out, "Which makes him no longer our concern."
"He's an idiot," Paz countered, "And he'll get both himself and his child killed if he goes to that cursed planet."
He finished stowing the last of his supplies and jumped down, landing heavily in front of her. She regarded him silently as he straightened.
"Do I have permission to leave, alor?" he asked stiffly.
Paz wasn't sure what he would do if she said no. He hadn't really thought that far ahead: a common failing of his, to do things without first thinking them through. He approached life fists first and blasters second, and most problems were solved through judicial application of one or the other.
That method never had really worked on Din, though, no matter how much they tried it with each other.
The Armorer considered him a few moments longer before inclining her head, and Paz felt just a moment of relief before she spoke again.
"Do you agree with Din Djarin's choice?"
He blinked.
"Alor?"
"Had it been your child in danger," the Armorer enunciated, "Would you have removed your helmet as he did?"
Paz stiffened. His gaze darted past her, to the edge of the landing pad, where Ragnar waited patiently to say goodbye.
Paz hadn't known, on Glavis, why Din had removed his helmet. All he'd felt was anger - not unusual, when it came to Din - and stomach-churning envy - also not unusual - from seeing the Darksaber finally returned to Mandalorian hands. Hands that weren't a Vizsla's, for all that Paz thought the damned thing was cursed. Hands that didn't understand what they held; hands that were, in the end, not Mandalorian at all.
And that had been the sharpest cut, a grieving wound reopened: to realize that one of his brothers, returned from the dead, hadn't actually been returned to him at all.
Paz now owed Din a life debt; that was not in question. Din had saved his son, and Paz would repay that a hundred times over, a thousand times over, knowing that Ragnar lived because of his actions. He would protect Din's child or protect the fool himself, would walk on the surface of a death-trap of a planet and follow Din wherever he needed to go, because that was the least the man was owed for saving his child.
What wouldn't Paz do for his son?
The Armorer waited for his response, hands clasped in front of her.
Paz looked away.
"I think," he said quietly, "That neither of us would like the answer to that question."
The Armorer said nothing. After a moment she turned to walk back into the caves; Paz let out a low breath and wondered if he, too, might need the absolution of the Living Waters.
Ragnar scampered over once it was clear that departure was imminent, and Paz didn't have to force a smile as he knelt down, gathering the boy into his arms as he barreled into him.
"You're leaving now?" Ragnar asked, only a hint of a pout in his voice. He'd come a long way from the shaking, anxious boy that Paz had found, blossoming in the safety of the covert's care and Paz's own gentle guidance. "To find the Hunter?"
"To fulfill a debt," Paz agreed.
Ragnar made an unhappy noise.
"It should be mine," he said, not for the first time. "It's my life that was saved, I should be the one with the life debt. I can pay it!"
Paz chuckled, leaning down to press their foreheads together, beskar connecting in a quiet singing note.
"You're still too young, and unless I go after him now, there will be no Hunter to repay. You are my foundling, and it is my place and privilege to take care of you. Understand?"
Ragnar sighed, and grumbled, and leaned back just so that he could tap their helmets together again.
"This is the Way," he agreed morosely.
Paz smiled and chucked him gently under the chin.
"This is the Way."

...so I'm coming back to Tumblr.
I mean...I never actually LEFT, I just don't post much anymore. But I'm trying to finish a book that a publisher wants to look at, so maybe having a regular internet presence would be a good thing?
...and yeah, Tumblr is a hellsite, but if @seananmcguire can rock a tumblr AND be the mother of October Daye, then I can still be her when I grow up. :P
Anyway. Gonna make an effort to at least queue up fun things when I'm not directly around. Current obsessions will include...
Doctor Who/Torchwood
Captain Jack Harkness's EVERYTHING
All Things Stallone but the hyperfixation du jour is currently the Rambo movies
LGBTQ things (reintroduction: Hi, I'm Liz, bisexual disaster, identify as a nonbinary woman [she/her/he/him pronouns, could say I'm bigender but it's not a comfy label])
pro wrestling nonsense
writing stuff/talking about mah novel
October Daye Stuff
Sanders Sides (occasionally)
Bitty bit of Star Wars (Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Bad Batch, Ahsoka, et al)
Occasional Youtuber things (Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, yadda yadda, but it's a very mixed bag)
Fanfiction of All Sorts
And stuff about me, so. Yeah.
Asks are always open if you all wanna talk at me. Wheaton's Law is in effect: don't be a dick and I will just...absolutely gorge myself on the fun and delight of being your dancing monkey. No really, I'm so hammy you could stuff me full of cloves. :P
I love your faces, and I hope you are all doing amazing.

Where His Heart Lives
Pairing: din djarin x gn!reader
300 words
Rating: G
My first Writer Wednesday Submission for @autumnleaves1991-blog & @clydesducktape
{ My Masterlist }
A single light burns from the window on one side of the cottage, casting a warm glow into the night as he walks up the hidden path. A smile tugs beneath the helm at the thought of you trying to wait up for him. His movements are silent as he disables the security and lets himself in.
You’re a light sleeper but you won’t hear him when he sheds his heavy armour and weapons, won’t feel him slip the book from your grasp and mark your page before switching off the lamp. Without a sound, he eases himself under the heavy quilt towards the warmth radiating from the center of the bed where you’re curled around his pillow. Careful not to jostle the bed, he fits himself around the shape of you, inhaling the soft perfume of your hair.
He’s home.
He’s home and the smooth curve of your shoulder now shines silver with moonlight where your sleep shirt has fallen wide, he’s careful in the gentle press of his lips, not to let his mustache touch your skin.
But you’re a light sleeper.
He hushes you before you can startle, his low muted voice like cotton over gravel ‘shhh go back to sleep’
Even slurred with slumber, he hears the relief in your voice. ‘You’re back.’
He hums a soft reassurance, cinching his arm around your middle, needing you closer, murmuring into the warm crook of your neck.
‘…told you it wouldn’t take me long.’
You unfurl in his arms with a slow inhale like a cat stretching in the sun, all long legs and twisting spine before falling limp again, settling back against the safety of his solid chest.
A broad hand finds the bottom edge of your pyjama shirt and slides over your bare stomach, low and firm and tempting.
‘I’ve missed you.’

*The 2021 Emmy Awards will air this Sunday at 8 pm. ET on CBS. It will also be available to stream on Roku, Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, Sling TV, Fubo TV and CBS’ streaming service Paramount+. The Crown has 24 nominations this time! Claire Foy has already won Outstanding Guest Actress Drama, Adriano Goldman for Cinematography, and Yan Miles for Editing last weekend!
Emmy Nominations 2021: Vanity Fair Predicts Who Will Win
A close look at every award that will be handed out during Sunday night’s broadcast, from an intense actress showdown to the potential for history to be made.
After a year of television that felt more than a little unusual given the pandemic that surrounded it, the 2021 Emmy Awards will be an opportunity to celebrate the shows that got us through, whether via fantastical escapism, well-costumed romance, or the optimistic wisdom of a certain football coach. Just like last year, Vanity Fair’s experts have their eyes on a specific trio of shows—this year it’s The Crown, Ted Lasso, and The Queen’s Gambit—to take home the bulk of the prizes, but there is also plenty of room for surprise. Will The Handmaid’s Tale be the comeback kid? Will the final season of Pose soar to the top? Was it really Agatha all along? Read ahead to find out, and tune in to the Emmy Awards on Sunday night to see if we got it right.
A guide to Hollywood’s biggest races
DRAMA SERIES
The Boys Bridgerton PREDICTED WINNER: The Crown The Handmaid’s Tale Lovecraft Country The Mandalorian Pose This Is Us
In the culmination of its long, triumphant awards season, Netflix’s The Crown should finally win the top prize for its acclaimed fourth season. The period drama has won every equivalent precursor, from awards given by key industry guilds like the PGA and SAG to those given by notable outside groups at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globes, and found an entirely new audience with its rich rendering of the Charles-Diana saga. In the time since its airing, a serious challenger has not emerged to overtake it, even with the support for Pose’s final season or the sheer popularity of The Mandalorian. It’s time for The Crown to finally take the, well, you know. —David Canfield
ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us Jonathan Majors, Lovecraft Country PREDICTED WINNER: Josh O’Connor, The Crown Regé-Jean Page, Bridgerton Billy Porter, Pose Matthew Rhys, Perry Mason
Tighter than it first appeared, this race comes down to two very different contenders. The smart money may actually be on Billy Porter, considering the overall Emmy performance of Pose for its final season—the FX drama has already won three trophies this year via the Creative Arts awards—and the fact that Porter has already won this category. He’s nominated again for a true showcase of a season that’s hard to deny. But as Schitt’s Creek proved last year, the Emmys love a sweep, and The Crown—with its deep ensemble and clear overall front-runner status—looks tailor-made for one. Josh O’Connor stepping into the series’ center with his indelible Prince Charles is likely to find embrace amid the wave. —David Canfield
ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Uzo Aduba, In Treatment Olivia Colman, The Crown PREDICTED WINNER: Emma Corrin, The Crown Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s Tale Mj Rodriguez, Pose Jurnee Smollett, Lovecraft Country
Emma Corrin’s devastating breakout turn as Princess Diana sits comfortably atop this list—which feels a bit strange to say, given that she’s surrounded by awards heavyweights like Oscar winner (and costar!) Olivia Colman and multi-Emmy winners Uzo Aduba and Elisabeth Moss. But so it goes. And in fact, her chief competition is probably another first-time nominee—Mj Rodriguez, repping the surging Pose and having already made history as the first trans nominee in the category’s existence. Will voters jump at the opportunity to make even more history? It’s a long shot, but don’t count her out. —David Canfield
SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Giancarlo Esposito, The Mandalorian O-T Fagbenle, The Handmaid’s Tale John Lithgow, Perry Mason Tobias Menzies, The Crown Max Minghella, The Handmaid’s Tale Chris Sullivan, This Is Us Bradley Whitford, The Handmaid’s Tale PREDICTED WINNER: Michael K. Williams, Lovecraft Country
Voting closed before the tragic passing of Michael K. Williams on September 6, but the actor, whose work included The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, was already predicted to win this award for his performance in HBO’s now canceled Lovecraft Country. Winners of this category are often well-respected veteran actors (Peter Dinklage, Ben Mendelsohn, John Lithgow) who voters seem to be honoring not only for their current project, but their entire body of work. And that would be the case for Williams—a five-time Emmy nominee—this time around. It would be a bittersweet way to remember a beloved member of the acting community who created some of TV’s most memorable and vulnerable characters. —Rebecca Ford
SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
PREDICTED WINNER: Gillian Anderson, The Crown Madeline Brewer, The Handmaid’s Tale Helena Bonham Carter, The Crown Ann Dowd, The Handmaid’s Tale Aunjanue Ellis, Lovecraft Country Emerald Fennell, The Crown Yvonne Strahovski, The Handmaid’s Tale Samira Wiley, The Handmaid’s Tale
Dowd won in 2017 for her work on The Handmaid’s Tale, but with this crowded category stacked with her costars from the show, they’ll likely split the votes. And Anderson has always been the front-runner anyway for her transformative performance as Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of the Netflix series. She already won the Globe earlier this year, and in all likelihood will beat out her own costars to take the Emmy as well. —Rebecca Ford
DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES
Bridgerton, “Diamond of the First Water,” Julie Anne Robinson Pose, “Series Finale,” Steven Canals The Crown, “Fairytale,” Benjamin Caron The Crown, “War,” Jessica Hobbs PREDICTED WINNER: The Handmaid’s Tale, “The Wilderness,” Liz Garbus The Mandalorian, “Chapter 9: The Marshal,” Jon Favreau
There’s a strong correlation between this category and the best-drama-series Emmy, which should give the edge to drama front-runner The Crown, and particularly the propulsive season four finale, “War.” But we’re spotting potential upsets in the beloved series finale for Pose and particularly the Handmaid’s Tale season four finale, “The Wilderness,” directed by Oscar-nominated documentarian Liz Garbus. Given how much The Handmaid’s Tale outperformed expectations in the nominations, we suspect this might be a place for the show to surprise again. —Katey Rich
WRITING FOR A DRAMA SERIES
Lovecraft Country, “Sundown,” Misha Green Pose, “Series Finale,” Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Steven Canals, Janet Mock, Our Lady J The Boys, “What I Know,” Rebecca Sonnenshine PREDICTED WINNER: The Crown, “War,” Peter Morgan The Handmaid’s Tale, “Home,” Yahlin Chang The Mandalorian, “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” Dave Filoni The Mandalorian, “Chapter 16: The Rescue,” Jon Favreau
Oddly enough, The Crown has never won this category, despite the dense history layered into each episode, which we suspect should give series creator Peter Morgan an edge here. For potential upsets keep an eye on Pose and the long list of heavy hitter credited writers; this is, after all, the category where Friday Night Lights and The Americans finally won after years of being overlooked. Pose is surging in Emmy attention for its final season, and you never know just how far that affection might go. —Katey Rich

One Year Ago.
TL;DR--Thank you. Sanctuary Ch. 21 tomorrow.
Post is under the cut because Length--as it turns out, I can be very sentimental and wordy when called upon.
One year ago today, I was helping my parents take down Christmas decorations. It was relatively late in the evening. The only thing left to do was unravel the lights from the Christmas tree, and that was a one-man job. So I sat with my laptop, writing out an idea that had come to me a few days before--a continuation of The Mandalorian (season one). I had originally planned for this idea to be three to five chapters, maximum. After all, I had never considered myself a great prosaic writer, and the longest fic thing I had ever managed to write was the start of an epic prequel to The Hobbit. (It, ah...was a lot to ask of a baby writer, and didn’t get very far off the ground.)
To my surprise, the starting piece I was working on came smoothly, and almost all at once. I considered where to publish, and I landed on AO3. I filled out the requisite boxes for a new fic--characters, ship, rating, warnings (none). And then I got stuck on the title. I took a minute, considered the direction I was thinking the fic was going to go, and its place in the timeline of The Mandalorian as it stood after season 1. And finally, I decided on a name.
In the Aftermath.
One year ago, as I published my first chapter, fully intending to write something relatively flippant and leave it behind when it was finished, I had no possible conception of how much this project would mean to me. Since that leap of faith, I have written hundreds of pages, tens of thousands of words--more than I could ever have imagined. Not only that, but working on the Clan Djarin series guided me academically. Writing Clan Djarin and interacting with my fellow fic writers and readers inspired me to write my thesis on the validity of fanfiction as a genre. Eventually, I want to turn that essay into a book.
I have jumped deeper into the Star Wars pond than I ever expected to, and not only am I deeply enjoying it, but it has brought me closer to my dad. Getting to talk with him about something he’s been a fan of since its beginning has strengthened our bond, and I treasure it for that. He’s even read much of Clan Djarin--I think he stopped after chapter 14, or thereabouts. (I’m guessing romance isn’t really his genre, but to each their own.)
But the most important, and the most unexpected thing to come from writing Clan Djarin has been the friendships I’ve made. In the past year, I have met some of the most wonderful people, sharing a common love for The Mandalorian, and the mandomera ship more specifically. I have found support, critique when I need it, and a whole lot of love. That love has carried me through some of the roughest times of my life, from the general ass-ness of 2020, to my current bout with my health that has left me practically bedridden. For as many words as I’ve expended in this post, I can’t find enough of them to fully express how meaningful, how deep, how life-changing these friendships have been. I’m not going to do tags because I’m sure I’ll forget someone, so suffice it to say that whether you’ve been here since one year ago today, or if you only discovered Clan Djarin today; whether you’ve given kudos, liked my posts here, reblogged, written comments, or even just lurked and appreciated from afar, know that I consider you a monumental part of my life, and it wouldn’t be the same without you. You are the most important part of this whole endeavor. And from the core of my being, from my heart and soul:
Thank you.
Looking forward into this next year, I have no plans to slow down. After finishing Sanctuary, I will be releasing a series of seven one-shots set between Sanctuary and the third book of the series, whose title I will reveal at the time of publication for Sanctuary’s last chapter. I’m aiming for the third book to be about the same length, though it will be a more narrow story than the one I’ve written for Sanctuary. And after the third book, I will likely develop a prequel novel for The Mandalorian, or even a spin-off with my Nevarro Three characters. The possibilities are endless--and that is all due to your support and love. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
The next chapter of Sanctuary will be published tomorrow afternoon/evening.
All my love and appreciation,
Liz (Poetry)

Good Dad Paz pt 4
one | two | three
wherein good dad paz has some bad dad trauma to work through, and dumb dad din tries to play devil’s advocate against himself
hoping the backstory comes through in a way that makes sense? feel free to lmk if not.
adding ‘vod’ (sibling, comrade) to the untranslated mando’a list b/c i needed ‘brother’ for other things. may or may not go back to change previous versions
---
Of the many issues Paz knew Din had, he'd never expected self-worth to be one of them.
In retrospect, he probably should have.
"My original task was to bring Grogu to his people," Din said, after sitting back by the fire and recounting his journeys since the massacre on Nevarro. They'd never had a chance to talk about it on Glavis; Paz had been too bitter to try. "I knew that I couldn't keep him. It was...easier, to remain unattached."
Paz looked down at the child. Grogu was leaning against apparently-not-his-father's thigh, cooing contentedly, little hands still wrapped around the now empty cup. Din's hand rested atop his head in a seemingly unconscious gesture, thumb absently smoothing down one ridiculously long ear.
Paz was pretty sure Din became attached to that kid within less than an hour of meeting him.
"You are no longer unattached," he pointed out, "And the Jedi are no longer his people. We are."
Din inhaled a sharp breath, stilling.
Had he truly not considered that?
Paz studied him for a few more moments, taking in his protective posture, his hunched shoulders. The way he occasionally looked down at Grogu like he still wasn't sure why the kid was there; like he thought that at any moment, the child might change his mind and leave.
Ah.
This, Paz understood.
"You think you would make a bad father," he concluded.
Din tensed, but didn't reply. Paz tilted his head in understanding.
After all, he knew the feeling.
Paz leaned back against the wall, tapping his fingers idly against one of his cuisses. A slow beat, calming: one of the old remembrance songs turned into a simple rhythm.
"We," he said, "Are not kind men."
Din did not object. Paz didn't expect him to.
"You have hunted bounties with no thought given to if they deserve it. I have killed beings whose only crime was wandering too near the covert. We chose to follow a Creed that put our people over all else. This is the Way."
"This is the Way," Din murmured. The words sounded flat on his tongue, hesitant, as if wondering if he had the right to speak them.
"We chose to be Mandalorian. And every day, Ragnar continues to choose to be my child. Every day, I am humbled by his choice. No matter what I think of myself or who I may be, he is the one who decided that I am a father worthy of him."
"Grogu is too young to choose," Din said flatly.
Paz snorted.
"To swear the Creed, maybe. But if he could choose between staying with the Jedi or being with you, he can choose to become your son. It sounds like he already has."
"He doesn't have to be," Din argued. "We are all raised together; he could be part of the covert without tying himself to me. I don't need to be his father."
Din had a very punchable face. Paz forgot that, sometimes. But he'd already taken off his gloves, and he wasn't in the mood to break his knuckles against that empty beskar skull.
The two of them tended to solve most of their disagreements with their fists: they were, after all, Mandalorian, and shouting matches were harder with broken ribs. It had been that way since they were children, squabbling over who got the last slice of uj'alayi, or who did better in training. The fights got longer and more bitter as they got older, but there was always a sense of catharsis afterward, no matter who won.
It was, frankly, better than the alternative.
Paz studied his vod, his friend, and remembered a shellshocked young face beneath a mop of brown curls. He remembered a quiet boy learning the Way and never once questioning his place in the covert--even when perhaps he should have.
"I never thought," Paz said slowly, deliberately, "That you would be so cruel to deny a child a Clan, as you were."
He'd heard Din make less agonized sounds from being stabbed.
"No," Din choked out. His grip tightened on Grogu, enough to make the little one squeak in concern. "No, that's not what-- I would never--"
"You treat him as your own," Paz continued ruthlessly. "You have fought and bled for him, cared for him when no one else did. You broke the Creed to put his safety above all else. Are those not the actions of a parent?"
"But--"
Paz stood, frustration and real fury caught behind his teeth as he glared down at his stupid, ignorant almost-brother.
Din always knew best how to make him angry.
"He left safety with the Jedi and crossed the galaxy to return to you, and you would sit here and deny him a place at your side?" he demanded. "Would you have him also follow after you on his knees, hoping for a family that he will never be granted?"
"Paz--"
Paz wouldn't do this again. He wouldn't stand by and watch as another child was crushed by disappointment, strung along with promises of belonging to a Clan: pushing themselves to their limits to prove their worthiness, only to fail, because there was never the possibility of winning in the first place. Because love couldn't--shouldn't--be earned, and family wasn't something that should be used as a reward.
He wouldn't allow it. Not now, not when he actually had the ability to prevent it, now that he wasn't a fucking coward--
"Maybe," Paz snarled, "You really should have been a Vizsla."
Din's fist collided with his face.
He hadn't removed his gloves.
Copper blossomed across Paz's tongue as his head snapped to the side. He immediately retaliated, kicking Din savagely in the gut just below his beskar. Din stumbled back with a gasping wheeze, and while Paz didn't delude himself about his normal chances against him--Din won their bouts seventy percent of the time--he, unlike apparently Din himself, was aware that one of them was still injured.
Grogu scurried over to Din, who was doubled over in pain. The child fixed Paz with what was unmistakably a glare, one tiny green hand resting on the top of Din's boot.
The accusatory expression on such a young face chased the rage from Paz's throat. He sighed, shoulders slumping, fists loosening into open hands.
He really did prefer fights where they could just hit each other. Those always hurt less.
"Din," he said, "That kid is already your son. So what kind of father are you going to be?"

Was it just me or was that the worst episode so far?
The pacing felt off, the writing was so cliche, and the acting was ... something that needs work. I honestly thought the guy playing Dom was the best part of the episode. Him and Lotte. Always love seeing her.
Wow, Red is N-13. What a surprise!!! Snooze.
Wow, Red actually killed Katarina. Snooze.
Wow, Liz is mad at Red and wants him to die. Snooze.
Haven’t we all been down this road before?
Red murdered Liz’s parent. She says they’re done. He says there’s a reason for it. And ... eventually, she forgives him. Snooze.
The song and dance never effing ends.
I guess killing Katarina *IS* a bit of a shock bc I felt like they could do more with her character down the road. A lot more story material to explore. But no. She gotta go. 👋🏻
Also, where the hell is Agnes? They mentioned her, but no one ever said who she’s with. Wasn’t KR pretending to babysit her at one point? Granted, S7 is a giant blur for me, so I don’t remember much...
Overall, my disappointment and annoyance is over 9,000.
If you want to watch something good, go watch Kim’s Convenience on Netflix. Or the anime Nozaki-kun. Or The Mandalorian.
Literally, anything else.
In the same way that Liz is finally walking away from Red, I will finally be walking away from this show. (Which means that i will intend to 100% but then some contrivance will pull me back in.)

Liz!! Congratulations on getting to the end of lacuna!! What a ride it has been! What a journey you’ve taken us on! I meant to do this last night but I fell asleep while I was finding quotes so I only have the first four chapters done! But here are some of my favourite bits!
“It’s not home, nowhere is. But you’ve been here since you were sixteen, years before the rest of your team, it’s as close as you’ll get to belonging somewhere.” - upon rereading this bit got me very emotional. That rebel has given up on ever finding an actual home, that they’re resigned to not having one. And then knowing Shara creates one later?? It makes me cry every time I think about! Just the whole of rebel’s character is so good and this whole chapter is such a great introduction to them!!
“You’ve never felt the pressure to fill any silence with him, he seems to exist so comfortably in it.” And “For a man so rough, he is so careful, he handles you as though you’ll break at the slightest breeze. As though he is wholly undeserving of such sweetness. Part of you thinks he’s convinced he is.” - It’s so good! It’s exactly Din! I am always astonished at how fanfic authors can get the characters so spot on, and every time you write anything I am floored by how you can get across the character so well!! And the relationship between them is so interesting and feels very real to Din’s character!
I think I’m going to split these into chapters because I love them all so much and I want to give you all the praise so look forward to more of this I guess! 💕💕💕
IZZY🥺🥺 thank you for being an endless well of love and support for this series!!!!!
the more i think about it the more i realise that this story really is about someone finding their place in the galaxy and finding a home, which i think is all anyone really wants to do so reading that quote and then realising that by the end rebel HAS found a home and a family,,,, i get Emotional
i sometimes find it really difficult to get into din’s head properly (which i worry shows a lot) so to hear that you think that’s him is astounding!!! i just always get the feeling - especially any time he handles grogu or the way he was with frog lady and the eggs - that he doesn’t necessarily like how he’s perceived as the Big Scary Mandalorian,, like even in the smallest change of body language when Cobb talked about how he didn’t know much ab mandos but that they’re ‘good at killing’. he can hold his creed so close to his heart the way he does AND dislike what it represents to everyone else but he’s also so used to it, which is why i think he’d find it difficult to accept somebody treating him with the same care he does other people
let’s celebrate lacuna!!

this is especially funny in the rnm mandalorian au because rnm canon alex probably went through a phase where he ended all his interactions like this There is a RNM Mandalorian AU? Where? I want it!
So far it only exists in my head, but i’m hoping I can figure out writing it! The basic premise is a malex feral dads au featuring such favorites as:
Alex Manes as fandom’s problematic feral space dad/bounty hunter
Michael Guerin as the grungy love interest who happens to be a jedi and also a feral dad yes this is an excuse to put michael guerin in Uggs and a black turtleneck do NOT @ me on this.
Rosa Ortecho as Michael’s off the rails padawan or possibly Alex’s feral merc pal. I have not decided but it’s one of those.
Liz “Off the Shits” Ortecho as whichever of those roles Rosa doesn’t fill
Max “Trying his best” small town officiant and protector Evans as Cobb Vanth (”DO *NOT* tell Liz I broke that.)
Maria “Ace Mechanic and featured best friend also thats my kid now” Deluca
Flint as greef karda(but he lives) and just gives Alex a ton of shit
Forrest or Kyle as Boba Fett depending on who else I can throw Kyle Valenti’s personality onto.
The basic premise that started the au was a discussion in the discord and the post that goes like :
"sometimes a family is two himbo dads(Alex and Michael), four disaster lesbian wine aunts(Isobel, Rosa, Maria, Liz), a crimelord uncle(KYLE), a chill magistrate grandpa(Sanders but possibly Arturo?), a vodka grandma(Mimi), and their gremlin child(babie)"
Alex became a mandalorian to escape his father. he knew Michael before he was a mandalorian, they had a Thing, but the threat of his father and war made him leave(or...something. we’re figuring it out space pirates!), and Michael(who is force sensitive, obvs) went into hiding to avoid the empire. So like ten years later after the fall of the Empire, Alex as mando gets sort of the same job - deliver an 'item' which turns out to be a kid with strange powers. He never knew about Michael's force sensitivity bc just like mando he is like, the dullest crayon in the box when it comes to force sensitivity, but he ends up adopting this kid and going on a galazy-wide quest to find 'its people' which inevitably leads him to Michael(because spoiler the kid is Michael/Max/Isobel’s sibling who wasn’t awakened when they were and so stayed in stasis for another twenty or so years) and they become feral dads raising a feral space baby taking down Alex's dad and the forces of evil. It’s very cool and cute and yes Alex as Mando is going to know a lot of things but social etiquette regarding force knowledge is not one of them bc “you can’t just take people’s things!” and also I PERSONALLY know very little about Star Wars canon so like. Intentional Oversight Of The Author anyway it’s very cute.
