If you were under eighteen, you were old enough to have known some of the worst horrors the earth could provide, but you still couldn’t get served in a damn Wetherspoons. When the Problem started, people barely took it seriously — mostly because the older generations didn’t believe in it. When a majority of them fell victims to Ghost-Touch, they started to realise just how in danger they really were. Safe havens cropped up all over Britain, and many people tried to leave the country. It paid to be selfish in a world like this, and few could be trusted.

The ones with Talent had the best chance at survival. The ones that weren’t so afraid they locked themselves inside their houses the moment the sun began to creep down towards the horizon. The ones who could make a living by finding Sources and trading them for supplies that just weren’t common anymore.

Individually, no one ever really lasted very long after dark. So it was a good job they stumbled across each other when they did.

Or: AU in which the Problem started later and grew out of control more quickly. Merges apocalypse tropes with the Problem universe we already know.

Lockwood and Co Big Bang 2023!

We're excited to announce the first post-show Lockwood and Co Big Bang event!

A Big Bang teams up authors and artists to create new content for the fandom, and cheerleaders to help them along the way! Artists will create accompanying art for each fic, authors will write a fic of 5k words minimum (there are stages to this, more info to follow!) and cheerleaders will beta read and provide encouragement. We will also be accepting signups for reserve agents, who will be able to step in at the last minute should something happen and a team be left incomplete.

Signups will start on the 20th June and end on the 7th July, and we're looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

The link for signups can be found here (but the form won't be open before the 20th), and if you want more information about the event our rules and schedule will be posted asap, and asks are open if you have any immediate questions!!

The posting date for all the works is pencilled in to start on the one year anniversary of the show, 27th January, 2024.

The living and the dead have always spoken equally to Lucy, and she doesn’t know where to focus any more. When disaster strikes at Jacob’s Travelling Circus, Lucy flees to London. There, she stumbles upon the world famous Fairfax Carnival, and falls back on an old con that her mother made her do as a child; swindling punters as a fake psychic. Lucy is content to blend into the background and be just another carnie, but when Annabel Ward, the trapeze star, disappears overnight, Lucy is forced into the spotlight in to a role she told herself she’d never do again. Add to that Lockwood's unhappiness about her getting a star act over him, and stopping the inspector investigating Annabel’s disappearance ratting her whereabouts to Jacobs; Lucy’s too distracted to even notice that the voices in her head are leading her right to the heart of the problem. She can’t ignore the signs forever, and when the mysterious figure lurking inside her crystal ball starts giving warnings about George and the Carnival’s secretary, Joplin, she and Lockwood must work together to figure out the dark secret behind the carnival’s popular attraction; the Hall Of Mirrors.

What is a zine?

A fanzine is a collaboratively-published magazine of fanworks. It can include art, writing, and many other kinds of creative work. 

What is this zine about?

Tea, Toast & Ghosts is a character- and ship-neutral celebration of the Lockwood & Co fandom, meaning you can submit both gen and ship-related ideas. It is also open to both book and show canon, meaning there will be spoilers for show-only fans. 

This issue’s theme will be:

“What’s your favorite part of Lockwood & Co.?” with a twist. We challenge you to frame your piece as something you might see in one of the gossip magazines Lockwood loves to read in his free time.

What will the format of this zine be in?

This zine will be made available as a free digital PDF, set in single-page, portrait A4 pages. We will also have a text-only accessible version made available for blind and low-vision fans.

What will be the rating for this zine?

This zine will be SFW, and will allow submissions rated from G up to PG-13.

Where can I apply?

Applications are open until 21st August. Our schedule can be found here.

We ask that you include three proposals for your piece in your application, so that we can see how well it goes with the zine concept, and to make sure there aren’t too many of the same ideas among different contributors. We will confirm the idea proposals with applicants only after they have been accepted as a zine contributor so these do not need to be final.

Who can apply?

Anyone interested, regardless of previous experience in zines or other related projects, may apply as a contributor.

A detailed list of eligibility requirements can be found in our Contributor Guidelines.

All applicants will be expected to include a working link to their portfolio (art account, writing account, or other examples of your work), so we can have a better understanding of who they are and what they may create for the zine.

Can I submit something I’ve already started working on or finished as part of my idea proposals?

Yes, so long as it is something you haven’t posted or shared publicly already. However, we recommend that you tailor your proposals so that they fit our concept and theme for this zine. New and unfinished works will be given priority.

I have only read the Lockwood & Co books / only watched the TV series. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can. However, we expect that there will be spoilers for both the books and show in the zine. We recommend that you complete both series before applying.

What are contributors expected to create? 

We will be accepting several different forms of original, fannish work. A non-exhaustive list of examples can be found in the Contributor Guidelines.

Are all Lockwood & Co characters allowed?

Yes! We welcome both book and show interpretations of any Lockwood & Co characters.

Are collaborations allowed?

Yes! The zine is open to collaborations, but between confirmed contributors only. Collaborators will be expected to communicate well amongst themselves so they can deliver their zine pieces on time.

An individual contributor may also create a multi-media piece that involves both writing and artistic aspects.

Any content that is strictly prohibited?

Content may be evaluated and rejected on a case-by-case basis by the mod team. The following are not allowed: 

AI-generated content (Whether fully or partially; this applies to both artwork and writing.)

RPF (Real Person/People Fiction)

Original Character-centric pieces. This zine is first and foremost a celebration of the existing characters we all know and love. Inclusion of OCs can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Alternate Universe pieces (such as royalty AUs or spy AUs). This zine is set in The Problem-era England.

Netflix's Show Rollercoaster 🎬🎢 So, I stumbled upon this Netflix show list like I was raiding the back of the fridge for leftover pizza. And let me tell you, it's like a TV series soap opera on steroids, but with more cancellations and renewals than a cat's indecisiveness when faced with an open door. First up, we've got a show named "1899." And guess what? It got canceled faster than a squirrel on an espresso binge after just one season. Talk about a historical speed run! 🏃‍♂️💨 Then there's "Big Mouth." It's apparently ending with season 8. They must've realized that puberty jokes have an expiration date, and it's about time to let those animated hormones rest in peace. 🙅‍♂️🤦‍♀️ Now, let's dive into the world of Bling Empire. Brace yourselves, because this show got canceled after season 2. I guess the empire wasn't as blingy as they thought, and someone had to pawn off the reality TV tiaras. 👑💍 Hold on tight, folks, because we've got a spin-off – Bling Empire: New York! And guess what? It hit the chopping block after just one season. New York can be ruthless, but canceling a show that fast? That's a new level of speed dating. 💔🗽 But fear not, because "Buying Beverly Hills" is coming back for round two! Sign Ups Are Open!

Signups are open for the 2023 Lockwood and Co Big Bang! These signups are for writers, artists, cheerleaders and reserve agents!

Feel free to sign up as many times as you want, just don't take on more than you can handle! Each role is a commitment, and your eventual teammates won't want you overworking yourself. If you want to sign up more than once, fill out the form again.

Rules can be found on the form, but a separate post will be up shortly! If you want a refresher on what the roles involve, read under the cut :)

For Writers

There are three types of bangs for this event: teeny bangs, mini bangs, and big bangs.

Teeny bangs: fics between 5–10k words.

Mini bangs: fics between 10–20k words.

Big bangs: fics 20k+ words.

The minimum word count for this event is 5k (5,000) words. If you find yourself over or under the word count you signed up for, this is okay, just please communicate with the event mods.

The rules are on the form and will be posted separately, but a brief run down (feel free to send an ask if you want more details):

No explicit (E-rated), RPF or incest fics allowed.

There are no limits on ships (besides what is stated above), genres, tropes, or universes.

No plagiarism will be tolerated.

Works must be labelled and trigger-tagged appropriately.

Works must be posted to AO3.

Fics submitted must be new to the public! The occasional preview/snippet is okay, provided it is after the teams have been announced, but they must not have been posted anywhere prior to or during the event.

For Artists

As you know, there are three types of bangs. For all fics under 20k words (i.e. teeny and mini bangs) you must create at least one piece of art. For big bangs (20k+ words) you must create two pieces of art.

This can be in any medium you deem fit, but unfortunately we are not accepting playlists as official artworks. Don't let this stop you from including them as additions if you want to though! Examples of appropriate art includes hand drawn/digital art, gifts, mood boards, video edits etc.

Remaining info:

Art must be relevant to the associated fic.

White-washing and orange-washing will not be tolerated.

Art must not be posted anywhere before posting dates, beyond hints/snippets. It must be new to the public!

We can't wait to see what you come up with!

For Cheerleaders

Your role is arguably the most important! It is your job to motivate and help your writer, whether that is by beta reading or simply providing encouragement! Don't be afraid to support your artist too, you're the only person they can fully share the art with (aside from their writer) before the posting day!

Brief rules:

Respect your writer and artist.

Do not share your writer's or author's work.

Please keep an open communication with your writer and artist! If for any reason you can't continue your role, please let them and the mods know as soon as possible.

Be encouraging!

For Reserve Agents

You're the ones that have to be ready to step in at a moment's notice! (You'll probably have a fair bit of notice since this is a long event, but still.) Reserve Agents are on hold in the event that another writer or artist drops out of the event, so they can take their place in a team!

Don't worry, if you're called to action you won't have to do as much as someone who had initially signed up. As an agent reserve you:

only need to write half of the required words for a bang if you're a writer (2.5k for a teeny, 5k for a mini, 10k for a big).

will be accommodated by a later poster date if necessary if you're an artist.

Sign Ups Are Closing Soon!

If you were waiting for a sign to join the 2023 Lockwood and Co Big Bang, this is it! There's less than a week left to sign up, as the form will be closing just before midnight on the 7th July!

This is an incredibly exciting event where you can collaborate with other members of the fandom to create content!

Writers, if the Big Bang minimum word count of 20k is intimidating, how about signing up for a Teeny Bang (5≤10k words) or a Mini Bang (10≤20k words)? If that's still daunting, the reserve agent role only requires half of the word count of any given category if you're up for the task of being a last-minute stand in!

Artists, if creating two different pieces for a Big Bang seems like it could be overwhelming, why not create one artwork for a Teeny or Mini Bang instead? It's not just digital or hand-drawn art either, feel free to sign up to make mood boards, gifsets, and photo edits too! Even video edits are appreciated!

Or, if you aren't confident in writing or creating art and just want to support, maybe the cheerleader role is for you! Beta reading and motivating your team across the finish line is an invaluable job.

We hope that this event has something for everyone, and it would be brilliant if we could get as much engagement as possible this time around! A few people have asked for the schedule in advance of signups, so here it is! This post will be edited as the relevant links go live :)

Open: 20th June

Close: 7th July

Summary Submissions

Open: 8th July

Close: 29th July

The spreadsheet should go live on the 30th for artists/cheerleaders to view before we open artist claiming!

Artist Claiming

Opens: 1st August

Due by: 30th August

Teams will be assigned during 1st–3rd September.

Check-ins for Writers

Week beginning 18th September

Week beginning 16th October

Week beginning 20th November

Week beginning 18th December

Final Check-in: week beginning 15th January.

Check-ins for Artists

Posting will begin 27th January, 2024 (the one year anniversary of the show's release!)

Summary Submissions Are Open!

Summary submissions are live! Writers, we can't wait to see what you've been working on :)

Summary submissions will be used to pair writers with artists and cheerleaders. Each fic will receive one artist and one cheerleader, and they will choose the fics they would like to work with from the summaries provided in this form, so please be as accurate as possible!

IMPORTANT NOTE: the form will NOT be public. The form will be available via the discord server and via emails (forwarded to the email you signed up with). This is to avoid people attempting to sign up late and clogging the form responses, as signups have officially closed.

Remember, these summaries have to be entirely new to the public! If you've shared the idea before, that's still okay, but the fic itself cannot be publicly available on any site before this event. It can only be shared in occasional snippets, and even those we would prefer to be after claiming has taken place so that the initial pairings can be anonymous! (We get that you want to work with your friends, but the best collars are the unexpected ones!)

The deadline for summary submissions is the 29th July, 2023.

Hey fam! Can you check to confirm that signing up twice via the form ( as artist and author or other combinations) won't override the first form submission when you do the second one?

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Can confirm that it doesn't override, it logs it as two separate submissions :) It's a good thing lol, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to keep track of multiple entries! Nothing to worry about, sign up as many times as you want <3
