Japanese definitions of beauty have been developed over many generations. Japan has focused on the natural world adopting a sensitivity to and appreciation for nature.
The Japanese have developed a distinct sense of aesthetics to depict different kinds of beauty, and among them we find the concepts wabi and sabi.
After the Heian period, during the Medieval Times and inspired by Buddhism a new set of aesthetic values are developed centered in “the lack/absence of apparent external beauty”, discovering “another new beauty”, more elevated and sober based on simplicity, nature, impermanence, poverty, imperfection, coldness.
Wabi means “poverty.” To be poor, that is, not dependent on things worldly and yet to feel inwardly the presence of something of the highest value. Wabi is to be satisfied with a little hut, like the log cabin of Thoreau, to stay content with the contemplation of Nature.
Sabi literally means “loneliness.” Sabi consists in rustic imperfection. In poetry Sabi stands for “austere and solitary beauty.” Sabi suggests the passing of time and the patina this passing produces in the worldly things destined to vanish.
Wabi sabi represents rustic and desolate beauty that correlates with a dark, bleak beauty that can be easily overlooked; but that it can be found everywhere: such as a small worn-down hut hidden in the forest, the shy first green sprouts fighting their way out in the snow in a high-mountain village.
Wabi sabi is linked with a discreet beauty in the colourless, the old, and the fragile. In short, the beauty of a cold, bleak, solitary, wintry landscape that is used as a symbol representing and suggesting the impermanence of men.
We could say that new aesthetics places us on the way to an imperfect beauty that leads us directly to the infinite beauty.

For Leo’s Sake
After the battle with the Kraang, Splinter cannot bear to allow Leo to come that close to harm again, confining him to the lair for over a month without realizing how much the time has flown. Leo begins to lose himself more and more every day, causing his brothers to become fed up with Splinter’s actions and brainstorm a vacation idea to slowly allow Leo back into the world: a weekend getaway to a log cabin.
Currently on view at Maxwell Alexander Gallery in Los Angeles, California is artist Grant Redden's solo exhibition, "Trailing Home."
Born and raised in Southwest Wyoming, Redden creates from the same land as his pioneer ancestors and father worked. His mother was born in a log cabin on the Henry’s Fork of the Green river in Wyoming, and his father’s family were some of the first pioneers to settle in the area. Redden paints on a 120 acre ranch, and actively continues to work the land. Strong and reliant, Redden pulls from the very lifestyle he creates, allowing the viewer to participate in his depth of experience. In this, he is continuing to contribute to the heritage of the west while at the same time creating from it.
“The more I paint, the more excited I get about the craftsmanship that goes into a well-made painting…” Redden says. Redden uses multiple layers of paint and color application to build up to the final piece. Up close, the work is completely abstractive; but stepping back makes the moments of varied hue and saturation mesh into a collaborative whole. Much like the partnership needed in ranch life, his compositions and paint application work together to create a synthesis in each final piece.
Redden's work is heavily influenced by his love of the outdoors and his fascination with how people interact with the natural world. Growing up on his family ranch in Southwestern Wyoming, Redden has a first had view of the old west - and these are the subjects he holds closet to his heart. He's able to use relics from his family's past like the batwing chaps his father passed down, prominently featured in "Pidbald Mustang Mare." Or the knowledge of riding through the mountains, which he did as a kid, just like the scene he created for the largest work in the show, "Trail Through the Ledges." "We would do this when I was a kid. We would pack salt and groceries into the Uinta Mountains where herds of sheep would stay for a couple of months."
“With some of my work, I strive to make it look like the cowboy and western life from 1900 to the 1930’s, while my models and landscapes are from what I see daily on the ranch,” Redden notes. Although, many may catch the influences of Frank Tenney Johnson and W. Herbert (Buck) Dunton, Redden’s creations are wholly his own.

Steve and Janet found themselves caught in an unexpected snowstorm while returning from a mission in the mountains. Everything had gone just as they had planned up to that point; they had to make an emergency landing in the middle of the forest, had they continued, they would have been in too much danger.
Steve and Janet hurried to get out of the plane, Stark had already warned them that in such a situation it would not be a safe place to take shelter. The snow was falling so heavily that they could barely see a few feet in front of them.
“We have to find shelter," Steve shouted.
Janet nodded, but she couldn't use the wings of her suit either, the strong wind would prevent her from flying in the direction she wanted to go or she might have an accident because of the storm.
After a few minutes that seemed like hours, Janet spotted a cabin partially covered by snow. They hurried to it, Steve forced open the door and they went inside.
The cabin was small and empty, except for a fireplace and a couple of old blankets in one corner. Steve immediately went to the fireplace, looking for firewood. Luckily, he found a small pile of dry logs stacked nearby, he hoped they were just lucky and it wasn't a trap, but just in case, he wouldn't let his guard down.
“I'll get the fire going," Steve said as he arranged the logs.
Janet searched through the blankets and wrapped herself in one, shivering with cold, they had never expected that kind of weather, so they were totally unprepared. They tried to get in communication with the others, but there was no signal and no way to let them know what was happening, they hoped somehow they would find out.
They both sat side by side and began to watch the movement of the flames in the chimney, they simply had to wait for the storm to stop, maybe the next day they could return to the ship and then they would communicate with the others to let them know they were OK.
“I never thought a snowstorm could be so intense," Janet commented, rubbing her hands together in front of the fire.
“These mountains are treacherous," Steve replied. We have to wait for the storm to pass before trying to communicate with the base.
The sound of the wind and snow hitting the walls of the hut was almost deafening, but inside the hut, they were safe and could stay safe.
They spent hours talking, they didn't want to sleep either in case it was a trap, they had to be alert, or if the storm worsened and they had to flee, however, they hoped that soon everything would calm down.
As the night wore on, the storm began to diminish in intensity. Steve got up to check outside. The snow was still falling, but not like before.
“I think we'll be able to try to get out of here soon," he said, returning to Janet.
He had already found some tools that would be useful for him to be able to leave the next day.
Steve found it comical that enemies could not stop them, but a snowstorm could.
Tannenbaum’s Tree Farm by @rosesupposesmanythings
So this is Winterfest…. And what have you done? Probably not much because there’s no seasonal events in TS4. SO I bring you Tannenbaum’s Tree Farm! Inspired by TS3 Seasonal Festivities, Instagram Aesthetics and my love of Christmas trees, I bring you a functional festive park for cute Christmassy outings for your sims.
Featuring a rink, bandstand, cocoa carts, play park, log cabins and a Christmas Tree Farm proposal spot, this park works for a family outing, a cute overnight staycay, a teen date or anything else you want winter wonderland vibes for.
Tannenbaum’s is CC free and on a 50x40 lot.. I tried to use as few packs as possible but you’ll definitely need the free Holiday items for it to look like the pics. I also used some Cottage Living, City Living and Seasons items though not having these packs shouldn’t affect the overall function, you’ll just be missing a coffee cart/a decor item mostly.
I built the lot to replace the park in Copperdale that is ugly and has nothing to do, as this has appropriate foliage and also kinda ties into the pier but you can put it wherever you like.
Charles showing you a photo dump he made of the pictures of you working remotely and joining him on his training camp and the fan’s reaction
Note: my dissertation is on remote working, so this took me a bit because I took it personal 😅 also I wish I could be all skilled and do those insta posts people do, but I'm going to let the people who know them do them, there are lots of talented ones out there
"Amour", he called for you, lowering his voice when he entered the home office and noticed you were on a videocall, sitting on the sofa adjacent to the desk you were working on, already hearing the goodbyes from your colleagues, "to what do I owe the pleasure of being interrupted on during my working hours?", you asked once you logged off the call, "I know you're working still even though you're home. And I'm proud of you being all boss lady with your team leader role", he said before he pressed as kiss to the top of your head, "but the fans also! Look!", he said as he nearly shoved his phone on your face, your hands managing to hold his as they held the device, noticing he had done a photodump on his instagram, "Pierre will start making you pay for stealing his ide- is that me?", you said as you noticed a picture from the cabin, your glasses perched on your nose as you sat in front of your laptop. While Charles did his training with Andrea and the rest of the group, you stayed behind in the cabin to work, only joining them when the activity was lighter and something you enjoyed, "they're all proud of you - not as proud as I am though - but look! They're all happy that you're a boss!", he said as he flicked through the comments section, the fans commenting how they thought it was nice seeing how passionate and hardworking you were, some even hinting that he may have whined his way through the climbs because you hadn't been there with him.
Commission for @ hika_boo on Instagram I've never been given full reign for a commission before so I gave her a list of my favorite characters and she chose Yunan from Magi & Adventures of Sinbad I drew him in his log cabin :3
