Still trying to get my breath back
Loki Spoilers:::
That was nearly 50 minutes of pure stress. Holy shit. I think I held my breath the entire time.
The TVA is programmed to self-destruct!! Hence the lights flickering and the keepers going through time doors.
Ok... now that I got that off my chest-
Tom Hiddleston's acting!! If he doesn't get an award for his acting, I'm going to be very, very upset. The screams, the urgency and fear! I really felt for him the the entire time.
And the time skipping gave me so many whumperflies
As always, the exchanges between Loki and Mobius were top-tier. The skin conversation and their care for one another were *chefs kiss*
I love OB so much! He adds a deadpan delivery that is absolutely hilarious. It definitely adds comic relief to the intensity of season 2.
Can't wait for next week!!

2024 Fic Year in Review
My fifth fic year in review! It's always wild to go back and look at how far I've come. As always, feel free to grab this if you want to do your own; I've stitched it together over the years. And thank you to everyone who read my fics this year, whether it was one or all of them.

Additional Random AO3 Stats
By number of fics: 79% one shots, 21% multi-chaps
By word count: 69% multi-chaps (nice), 31% one shots
Ratings by number of fics: 48% E-rated, 26% M-rated, 26% T-rated
Musical artists contributing highest number of titles: spread out this year, but Wilco, Metric & Sufjan Stevens came in with 2 each
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? I was wrong in my 2024 roundup post—I wrote 25k more words this year despite having 10 fewer fics. Which I did NOT expect. I figured I was trucking along to make my usual ~270k, but I forgot about The Secret Fics lol.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? I think I have to go with Body and Soul(mate), which I'm just so so proud of. I love how it came out and I think it's really original.
Did you complete your writing goals from last year? The Goal: My goal is to have a similar mix of fics as least year, and also to write my first collaboration with @cricketnationrise, which will be a long multichap. First part, pretty close. I wrote more multichaps (21% vs 15%) this year, which meant fewer fics in total. Second part, oops. Cricket and I have both been busy, but the hockey fic lives!! We'll get to it eventually!
Do you have any writing goals for the New Year? I can't believe I'm gonna say this but... write more original fiction. See below for more on that. Fanfic wise... finally finish some of the planned stories I've had kicking around for a while.
Did you take any writing risks this year? I submitted a pitch for an anthology, was accepted, and wrote my first original story! I had a lot of fun with it and I think I'll purse more next year. Idk if I'm ready for a whole novel and trying to get (more) published, but we'll see.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Even though it's numbers have come up since publishing, I'm still gonna go with The Impossible Soul, aka my Westworld-esque android/human AU.
Most fun story to write: Probably Body and Soul(mate). Figuring out all the body swaps and soulmate lore was a lot of fun and the whole thing just flowed so well.
Biggest disappointment: Why do I keep this question? I hate complaining publicly. 😂 My biggest disappointment is that I sometimes let fandom drama/trends/popularity make me feel bad. Being mad because a fandom loves X type of fic doesn't help anyone.
Biggest surprise: I'm not sure I really had any big surprises this year. Biggest surprise in my stats was that my percent of explicit works is way up—T used to be my most-used rating. Part of that is publishing fewer one-shots, since those tend to be T for me, whereas a long fic is more likely to be E.
Coming soon/planned for 2024: It's a little depressing how so many of these are the same as last year. Hence the resolution above, I guess.

~Lavender’s Marvel Re-entry Record~
Loki (2021-2023) (2 Seasons)

Date Finished: April 12, 2025
1st season rewatch, 2nd season first watch
Favorite Season: S1
Favorite character(s): Loki, Mobius
Ratings (out of ten)
Characters: 6/10
Pacing: 6/10
Performances: 8/10
My rating: 6/10
Describe the project in one word: Involved
Favorite thing: Loki’s glorious purpose ending! And what this opens up for the future of the MCU.
Least favorite thing: The ‘side quest’ feel of the second season.
Favorite scene(s): Loki’s sacrifice in the finale, the entire Lamentis episode (shoutout to bi Loki reveal!), Loki watching the playback of his life in ep1
Notable quote: “You were born to cause pain and suffering and death. That's how it is, that's how it was, that's how it will be. All so that others can achieve the best versions of themselves.”
General thoughts: First season was amazing! Unique and riveting and I loved the fact that this felt like a fresh Loki story, especially with it starting from that Tesseract moment in Avengers: Endgame. The quality shift from the first to the second season wasn’t favorable though, honestly; throughout watching the second season, I constantly found myself thinking, ‘okay, get on with it’ or ‘really? Another problem?’ and getting bored. It’s not that I didn’t feel like it should have conflict, because all stories need conflict, but the kinds of conflicts and problems that kept arising in S2 felt like cheap ‘side quest’ problems simply created just to inconvenience the characters and the story. And I feel like sometimes they were throwing around the word ‘temporal’ and slapping it onto words and into phrases to make concepts seem in-depth when the worldbuilding in truth felt a bit stale. Overall though, when S2 ended, I felt happy and satisfied! And at the end of the day, I’m happy that I watched S2 despite having many gripes with it.

Used my plane ride to try and get caught up on the MCU stuff I haven’t seen yet (basically, all non Loki content from 2021-present). Here’s my reviews that nobody asked for:
Black Widow: I thought it was fine? I don’t know why people didn’t like this one. I enjoyed Yelena quite a bit.
The Eternals: Felt a little like a weird side quest, but I liked it. Kumail Nanjiani was the highlight of the film for me.
Shang Chi: A good argument for doing away with the outdated Take Your 7-Year-Old to a Murder Day. But in all seriousness: this was excellent.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, aka Spider-Man: Oops! All Spider-Mans: This was so fun! Except for the two parts that made me sad, but we won’t talk about those.

So YouTube recommended me some old MCU reviews, with me first watching one on Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and then Loki Season 1, and I gotta say, it’s kind of wild watching these with the context of how people view the MCU now
Like these were the 2nd and 3rd shows, so long before people started getting sick of them or thought they were bloating the MCU catalogue. And Loki was the very first instance of the multiverse storyline cropping up, and our first look at who was going to be our main villain. So at this point, people were actually still interested and excited for the multiverse stuff, because we didn’t know where it was going and we thought it was actually going to progress, unlike now where it sounds like the movies still haven’t gotten that far with exploring the multiverse at all further than like, Multiverse of Madness
It’s weird watching these 2020/2021 reviews and seeing people still so hopeful about the MCU, because at this rate from what I’ve seen (I like to watch MCU video essays every now and then, have been for a good while now), there’s very little hope about this franchise anymore, outside of Fantastic Four: First Steps and maybe Doomsday, though more info is still needed on the latter. And I’m not even that sure where First Steps fits into the larger timeline, because I actually kind of checked out of the MCU a few years ago. I mean with the shows, it was because I was starting college and couldn’t watch them with my dad anymore, but by this point I just don’t care much about the MCU at all outside of maybe a few things, which seems to be the case for most people at this rate from what I can tell
It’s just so weird compared to the general pessimism I see with the franchise now. And it’s only been a few years, did things really get this bad?
#I think I just meant to say it was weird how different the conversations were back like 4 years ago#I just started talking more#but yeah no it’s strange seeing people have hope unlike now#where First Steps seems like the only thing people generally have hopes of being good#and I think everyone kind of on the page that if it and Doomsday fail then things are probably over for this franchise#outside of maybe a full scale reboot#and also add in DC to the conversation because people now have hope about that franchise#as opposed to a few years ago when that wasn’t really even a conversation#I don’t remember the state of things for DC in 2021 but it wasn’t at this point of optimism yet#I think I’m getting carried away and probably changing the observations slightly to be incorrect#so I’m just gonna stop here#mcu#marvel cinematic universe#random stuff

Fandom Events in 2023
At the start of the year the Avocados took part in a round robin challenge for Sticking It To The Man, in which 6 of us wrote a fic together! I would love to do this again.
The @daredevilexchange held a prompt fest in February, in which I posted 3 fics/art! One of these also started a collab with @udekai for our BADminton series!
In March the Avocados had our Secret Satan exchange in which I wrote Let me spin myself into yarn for @feenyxblue!
Through the year I wrote a few shorter prompted things - from our no prompt left behind challenge on the server, and also from Tumblr requests!
In October we had the @daredevilexchange where I wrote 2 fics, The City That Never (Always) Sleeps, and You know it breaks my heart in half, in half.
Upcoming Plans
I've just started the @killacharacterbingo, 4 fics in, and I hope to finish that next year! I've got a few longterm wips I want to bring back out and actually get finished, and not burnout with constant event pressures.
Writing Reflection
This year has felt quieter. I wrote about half what I did last year, and nothing can compare to 2021. It's been busy IRL, and I've felt like I've been in and out of burnout, but we're getting there!
Having a community online has been a lifesend, and even if I haven't been posting it, we've had plenty of brainrot opportunities, which I'm glad for! I also started to dabble in original fic, and that's slow going, but I'm also writing a bit more through starting DnD, and having text-based rp sessions in between, which are amazing!
Community is everything, and I'm so glad to have met everyone I did, you all hold a special place in my heart. Where else are you going to be able to cry about Matt and Foggy at 2 in the morning and there be someone to listen?
Tagging: @udekai, @blissful-thinker, @feenyxblue, @missmoochy and the rest of the Avocados discord, you know who you are!

Loki Season 2 reviews are in! While critics still praise the Tom Hiddleston series… the reviews are not quite as good as Season 1
With just two days left before Season 2 of Loki debuts on Disney Plus, the first wave of reviews have come in… and they're not quite as positive as Season 1.
Loki - which continues the adventures of Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischeif title character - debuted in June 2021 with a 92% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
While most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first TV shows on Disney Plus were considered one-offs, Loki was the first to get a second season, and later touted by Marvel President Kevin Feige as the 'most-watched' Marvel Studios series.
Now the reviews are in for Season 2 ahead of its October 5 debut on Disney Plus, with a slightly-lower 82% score from the first 50 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The involvement of Jonathan Majors, who returns as Kang, amid his arrest for domestic violence, was also troubling for many critics.
Rolling Stone's Alan Sepinwall called Majors, 'the big problem' with the season in his negative review published Tuesday.
'It’s not his performance, which remains a weirdly compelling live-wire act, full of odd, halting line deliveries and twitchy physicality. Instead, it’s the ugly real-world circumstances surrounding him,' Sepinwall began.
'After the season was filmed, Majors was arrested and charged with domestic violence against his romantic partner, which led to Rolling Stone uncovering a pattern of alleged abusive behavior going back a decade. Majors was set to play the big bad for the next few phases of the MCU. Instead, it’s impossible to imagine him ever appearing in a Marvel project after this one,' he added.
ComicBook.com's Nicole Drum gave the season a positive review (3.5 stars out of 5), but even she admitted something felt off, compared to Season 1.
'Season 2 definitely doesn’t suffer from the pitfalls that would make people continue to question if superhero fatigue is real or not, but through characterizations, pacing, and too much self-awareness, it definitely feels like a very different show,' she said.
She said the first episode debuting on Thursday, 'is hectic, throwing new concepts, characters, and threats into the story with little explanation and little reason for fans to be invested.'
'When the premiere does try to stop and ruminate on what Loki just experienced in the Season 1 finale, the end result becomes rushed and confusing,' she continued, adding the, 'overstuffed and slightly frenetic chaos' sets the tone in the four episodes (of the six-episode season) that were screened for critics.
Mashable's Belen Edwards added in her negative review that Season 2 delved into the first season's worst aspects.
'Instead of digging into what makes Loki fun, the show's second season doubles down on Season 1's worst tendencies… It's a drag when it should be thrilling, an exposition-filled trudge when it should be an exciting romp,' she said.
USA Today's Brian Truitt gave Loki Season 2 a positive review (3 stars out of 4), stating, 'Sometimes you feel like you need a theoretical physics degree to understand it all. Strong character work makes up for some of that, as does a knowing sense of humor.'
He added the new season, 'couldn't come sooner, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe films are starting to feel a little repetitive and a plethora of disparate TV series haven't helped.'
IGN Movies' Jarrod Jones gave the season a negative review (5 of 10), adding, 'Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is back for more multiversal shenanigans, but the absence of director Kate Herron seems to have sapped the wily fun from his Disney+ spinoff.'
Like many reviews - even the negative ones - Jones praised the addition of newly-minted Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan.
Quan plays a Time Variance Authority (TVA) 'basement-dwelling repair guy' named Ouroboros, 'whose jovial presence gives Season 2 a much-needed boost from its overall mopey tone.'
ComicBookMovie's Josh Wilding called Season 2, 'a masterclass in imaginative storytelling' adding the show represents, 'the MCU at its best and a riveting new chapter in the Multiverse Saga that’s mind-bending, monumental, and utterly marvellous,' adding, 'and as a bonus, Ke Huy Quan is a scene-stealing delight!'
Collider's Therese Lacson added, 'Season 1 was well-loved, and with a fan-favorite character like Hiddleston’s God of Mischief at the helm, Season 2 proves that the series not only hasn’t lost its touch but remains one of the stronger pillars of the MCU as a whole.'
However The Daily Beast's Nick Schager said in his negative review, 'Its convolutions overwhelming its charming personalities and freewheeling spirit of paradox-laden adventure, it’s another indication that the once-mighty franchise has lost its direction.'
London Evening Standard's Vicky Jessop added, 'It's all a bit wearying' when describing the entirety of the season that was screened for critics.
Indenpendent UK's Louis Chilton added, 'More than anything, Loki has started to resemble what it truly is: an ill-advised spinoff in the old tradition. A too-bright spotlight for a side character who was never best suited to lead. A dinner comprising only hors d’oeuvres.'
'Loki season two is a jaw-dropping magical experience that will ultimately leave you clamoring for more, with high stakes twists and turns that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat!' added ComicBookMovie's Rohan Patel.

So I was gonna wait until the new year to choose my game of the year, but not only did the steam review come out, but I realized that last year I chose a game that I got for Christmas 2021 so even if I somehow get a really cool game experience before the end of the year, I can just put that for my 2024 GOTY if its good.
But in that vein, I've added Monster Roadtrip & Neon White to games I'm considering for this year's GOTY. So my nominees are Monster Roadtrip, Neon White, Lil Gator Game, Celeste Strawberry Jam Mod Pack, Goodbye Volcano High, Our Life DLCs, and Marvel Snap.
---
So Monster Roadtrip, which I've been playing a lot throughout the year. Unlike most of the other games on the list it's really easy to come back to after not playing for a while. The End of the Road update which came out this year was phenomenal and that's the main reason I'm considering it for GOTY. But I really enjoy the Monster Prom series as a whole and it's just so fun and amazing.
Neon White, I got last year during the Steam Winter sale and I spent an amazing few months playing it and getting good at it and enjoying the crap out of the optimization and speedrunning. It makes it so easy to play and so easy to want to keep improving. It soundtrack is amazing and the community is great too. But it's just super hard to get back into. I tried it again this week and despite getting a couple of level records beaten so many of the levels just weren't fun to try and jump right back into at the level I was playing them when I quit. IDK it's definitely amazing but it's not obvious that it should or shouldn't be my GOTY.
Lil Gator Game is like super amazing and nearly perfect for what it is but its just so small, which isn't in itself a problem. But a bigger amazing game is gonna be better. I never went back to try and play it casually again and I think I got all I wanted out of speedrunning it. Like my only problem with it is that I wished it was a bit longer.
Celeste Strawberry Jam is a mod pack created not by the devs of Celeste but by the wonderful modding community of the game. It has levels that range in difficulty of super beginner friendly to fucking impossible, like jeez dude that's crazy. I played through so many levels and it was super enjoyable. It was enough for me to play and consistently enjoy myself for months.
My next nominee is Goodbye Volcano High. I've only played it through once but it was amazing. It's a game about music, found family, and the apocalypse. I got so engrossed in this game after I played it, and I just love it so much. It excelled at being a visual novel but it wasn't very game-y, the rhythm game elements weren't great, and the other game elements struggled too. It was buggy at the time I played it but it didn't detract too much from the story and meaning behind the game. It was just beautiful when it came together.
The Our Life DLCs really surprised me. I went it just expecting them to be worse than the Cove storyline because how could they live up to the amazing story that was the original Our Life Cove story. But they were amazing. I talked about them a lot as I played them but ultimately I just really love the stories GBPatch has put out and that's the reason Our Life 2 is my most anticipated game, even over Silksong and Hades 2. Again it's a visual novel so it's hard to put it as GOTY but I just have to at least consider it because of how good it was.
And my last nominee is Marvel Snap. It technically released last year but the PC launch was in August and I've been playing it so much since then, like it's already my second most played game on steam. It's a microtransaction heavy, season pass-having, daily quest bullshit monetization system game, but it's technically free-to-play. After a while I stopped paying money for stuff and started playing it free and I'm still really enjoying it. Getting the last key cards for some of the meta decks has been super fun. I've been playing Loki and Hela and Destroy and Zoo, and it's just great. The new weekly cache system is rewarding as well and I've nearly got a complete card list because of it. Just a fun time sink.
---
And my Game of the Year is Neon White, but like it's close. This was a cool year for gaming and even if I didn't play any of the mainstream choices for game of the year, it was still a super enjoyable year for gaming overall.

2023 Fic Year in Review
I've been doing these for three years now, and they always grow each year as I get tagged in other year-end posts that make the rounds. Feel free you grab it if you want to do your own review! And I’d like to add a hearty thank you to each and every person who’s read my fics over the years, y'all continue to make this a joy!

AO3 Username: chamel My Page: Link Active Fandoms: Red, White & Royal Blue: 20 works The Man from UNCLE (2015): 8 works Loki: 5 works New Fandoms: None thank GOD Total Number Of Completed Works/Word Count This Year: 33 works, 278k words All Time: 113 works, 1.27 million words
This year a little movie that came out in August absolutely destroyed these stats lmaoooo. Most Popular One Shot (by kudos): This Year: Always Where I Need To Be (RWRB, Alex/Henry, T, 5.5k) All Time: Class(room) Warfare (RWRB, Alex/Henry, T, 7.8k words)

Ratings by number of fics: 48% T-rated, 33% E-rated, 15% M-rated
Musical artists contributing highest number of titles: Jeff Tweedy (Tweedy/Wilco) & The New Pornographers, tied at 3 each
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Somehow I topped my word count from last year by 10k, which I was not expecting. That said, this year was right about average.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? God this is a hard question this year because I wrote a lot of fics I really really love. For one single fic I'll go with Nova, Baby, because I love the story and I've got a lot of lovely feelings about it.
Did you complete your writing goals from last year? The Goal: I want to complete a few large multichapter fics, which will probably mean my one-shot production goes down. I completed one long mulitchap, and then a few mid-length (~20k) multichaps. I think I wrote more of those than I have any other year. Surprisingly, my one-shot production wasn't super significantly decreased.
Do you have any writing goals for the New Year? Ok, I gotta come up with something. My goal is to have a similar mix of fics as least year, and also to write my first collaboration with @cricketnationrise, which will be a long multichap.
Did you take any writing risks this year? Wrote on a topic outside my wheelhouse (therapy 😬) and also posted a fic in a fandom where there weren't a lot of fics in similar genres (action/spies). Now that's no longer true, but at the time it was really freaking nerve-wracking.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Every fic I write in a fandom that's not RWRB? 😅 It's hard to complain too much, especially considering what happened to my numbers this year.
Most fun story to write: All the Old Showstoppers, Will You Brie Mine?, You're the Perfect Gift for Me. Silly RWRB boys being silly, basically.
Biggest disappointment: Again, I feel like it's hard to complain when I have a fic that's closing in on 4k kudos. The goalposts keep moving, don't they, though? I still live in fear of pouring my heart into a multichap and having what will count as "lukewarm" reception, when before this year I didn't have a single fic above 1k kudos.
Biggest surprise: Most definitely Please Don't Let Me Be So Understood. Like I figured it would do pretty well (I hoped, since I put so much into it), but holy shit?? I still can't really believe it's on page 2 of the tag by kudos? And honestly also Always Where I Need To Be, this little one-shot about David stealing glasses.

Book Review: Captured by Rosa Lee
Published: September 2, 2021
Goodreads Rating: 3.95 / 5
Pages: 475
Series Info: Highgate Preparatory Academy #1
Rivers of red changed my life, in ways that even I am unaware of. I went from being a happy, carefree, and comfortable London girl to moving across the pond and landing at the exclusive Highgate Preparatory Academy, a school for the kids of the rich and powerful, right before my senior year. Fate placed me into the arms of four beautiful, broken, rich boys; the Black Knights of Highgate Prep.
Loki, Jax, Kai, and Ash. All rich as Midas, all beautiful, and yet they all carry scars that run so deep, I don't know if there's a way to ever heal them. Our connection is immediate and earth shattering. The stuff of fairytales. My knights wear tarnished armour. They’re angels that have fallen into the pits of hell and been baptised anew in blood, emerging devastatingly beautiful but with the souls of demons.
But fate is fickle, and one night my life tips on its axis again, making me doubt my dark knights as their terrifying secrets are revealed. Yet life is never quite what it seems, and even knights must bow to tyrant kings. Apparently, the grass is not always greener on the other side. It's covered in crimson too. And none of our hands are clean.

Oh boy... I'm not sure how else to summarize this. Cringe. Boring. Immature. My favorite review I saw said something along the lines of if they weren't having sex every 5 minutes that the story might actually get somewhere. Don't get me wrong, I like a good spicy romance... but geez.
I'm just going to be real and say that I really didn't like anything about it. I endured it for the simple fact that I thought it might pick up on the hints of the underlying mystery. But it definitely did not.
Spice was the sole focus of this book. They are supposed to be high school students but 1) there are NO adults anywhere to monitor these teenagers in co-ed dorms, 2) she literally gets naked with them in the first 10 minutes of knowing them, and 3) it literally gives no background in the school setting other than just a casual mention that they are students going to class.
I really could not get past how cringe the writing was. The author put odd detail into the HORRID outfits that the FMC wore and these outfits were supposed to be "sexy". There was CONSTANT mention of what song was playing in the background with no real context for it (just give us a playlist instead). And don't get me started on the way too frequent "Her Vagisty" comments. The forced British one-liners throughout the book were cringe (and I've never even been to England).
"My inner feminist rolls her eyes, yet Her Vagisty approves of the chivalry and takes it as her due.” 🤢🤮
I will say the final line of the book was amazingly placed. Unfortunately, it was too little too late.
Anyone who just purely wants to read awkwardly written smut.

Movie Review...Captain American Brave New World

(4/5) This film, based on reviews, has left viewers divided, but I found myself firmly in the positive camp. Amidst a sea of mixed opinions, Captain America: Brave New World shines as a notable entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While the MCU hasn't quite recaptured the magic of its pre-Endgame days, this film offers a refreshing experience with exhilarating action sequences.
Despite its relatively simple plot, the film's narrative progression is a thrilling ride, largely driven by its dynamic action scenes. One might expect an excessive comparison between the former Captain America, Steve Rogers, and the new mantle holder, Sam Wilson. However, the film deftly navigates this territory, presenting the theme in a manner that feels organic rather than forced.
The character dynamics are a highlight, as various individuals either support Sam's journey to carve his own path or express their disapproval of the new Captain America. This external conflict mirrors Sam's internal struggle with his newfound role. Transitioning from a "sidekick" to the main protagonist is no easy feat, especially when carrying the weight of the Captain America legacy, both morally and visually. The shift from a white man to a black man is a significant change that resonates in both the fictional universe and the real world. A poignant line in the film encapsulates this transition beautifully: paraphrasing, "Steve gave people something to believe in, and Sam gives someone to believe in."
The action sequences are top-notch, with the aerial battle over Celestial Island standing out as particularly breathtaking. This scene effectively contrasts the two Captain Americas—Sam may lack Steve's superhuman strength, but he possesses the unique advantage of flight. The climactic showdown with Red Hulk elevates the action to new heights, transitioning from a sea battle to an all-out brawl.
However, the film is not without its flaws. The decision to reveal Red Hulk in the trailers detracts from the element of surprise, and it would have been more impactful had Marvel kept this twist under wraps. Additionally, the film's intricate web of characters and events can be perplexing. A revisit of older Hulk films is necessary to fully grasp the significance of characters like Ross and other antagonists. The main villain's identity may elude some viewers, and Giancarlo Esposito's character, though spoken of with familiarity, lacks immediate recognition.
The MCU's current state is somewhat muddled due to the complexity of the multiverse. It becomes challenging to pinpoint where Captain America: Brave New World fits within the broader narrative, especially in relation to events from Loki and Secret Invasion. The aftermath of Doctor Strange and Wanda's actions further complicates the timeline. Furthermore, the film teases the impending arrival of the X-Men in the MCU, which raises concerns about how this beloved group will be integrated into an already intricate universe.
Despite the negative reviews, I recommend giving Captain America: Brave New World a chance. It stands out as one of the more enjoyable MCU entries since 2021, offering a captivating blend of action and character development.
Anthony Mackie returns as the high-flying hero Sam Wilson, who's officially taken up the mantle of Captain America. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
