"Not the question I expected after like what ..12 years of not seeing each other?"

He put on a brief and stormed out of the room, he was careful to not shut the door loudly, he was trying his best even though he knew he was failing you every second. He was lost in his thoughts when he felt you sitting on his lap, you had a first aid box that you placed next to him on the couch. 

"You met Thor" you mumbled as you used the disinfectant solution to wipe the cuts on his face. “Lokiiiii, what are you doing?” 

“Oh shh, stop fussing, sweetest; I’m just braiding your hair.” I laugh while meticulously folding one section of hair over the middle, then repeating the same on the others until I have a gorgeous, elegant braid in Eleni’s hair. I pluck some wildflowers from the field around us, placing them carefully between the occasional strand. 

Once I was finished, Eleni pulled the braid over her shoulder, looking at my handiwork before humming softly before putting it back over her shoulder and laying back, her head on my lap. She looks up at the sky, watching as the clouds listlessly float by overhead. She looked back at me a few times and I had to pretend I wasn’t looking at her the entire time, but it was apparent. 

"What are you looking at?" Eleni asks me, becoming noticeably concerned about her appearance. I shake my head, running my thumb along her cheek. 

"Just looking at the beauty lying on me. Thinking about how lucky I am that you picked me, just enjoying the company of a woman I love more than anything." 

I love how her cheeks burn crimson whenever I praise or compliment her. I love how the words always fail to come out correctly and how flustered she gets. I love everything about her; I have since I first laid eyes on her; she has been the most important thing in my life. I am thankful that nothing pressing requires my attention, neither here nor back home, because it gives me time to spend with her. 

“L-Loki…” she responds, hiding her face in her hands. A faint chuckle leaves my lips as I gently peel her hands away from her face, kissing her palms. Her cheeks deepen as I pull her hand away.

Our relationship is still relatively “new.” We had only been a few short months, but I already knew and told her I loved her. She has yet to say it back, but that'll come soon. I don't want to force her to say it; I want her to say it when it feels suitable for her and not feel pressured simply because I did. 

I look down at her, smiling softly, taking in the majesty that she is. "What, my dearest? Use your words; what would you like to say to me?" I ask, wondering what she wants to say.

"I…" she starts but doesn't finish. She sits up to look at me. She goes to say something else, but the words die on her tongue. 

"You want to return to the compound?" I ask, filling in what I suspect she wants to say. She only nods before standing up. That was not what she wanted to say. 

She laces her fingers with mine, linking our hands together as we walk back in silence. I squeeze her hand several times, earning playful swats and tiny smiles. We continue to walk, clutching each other's hands. I've never felt like this in all my years with anyone. I have never felt such a connection with someone; this is a new, bizarre feeling for me, but I don't want to overwhelm Eleni with my affection.

We return to the compound quickly; she drops my hand as we enter. I know she's uncomfortable with others knowing about us; I respect it as much as it hurts. She decides she wants to watch a movie together in my room. 

"What do you want to watch, Darling?" I ask as soon as the door is closed and locked. 

"My Neighbor Totoro, please.." she answers, climbing onto the bed. I smile, climbing in beside her before resting my back against the headboard and turning the movie on. She crawls under my arm before laying her head against my shoulder, returning her attention to the tv.

It wasn't long until her attention was turned back on me. It looked like she wanted to tell me something, but the words once again died on her tongue. She turns back to the tv, returning her attention to the movie we were watching. I also turn my attention to the tv, absentmindedly drawing indiscernible shapes on her hip. She hums softly, content with the moment we had. 

My heart was beating wildly in my chest; I swear she could feel it or, at the very least, hear it. She turns her attention back to me, looking up before finally speaking. “You’re comfy; I think you’ll be my new pillow.” 

A low rumble laugh reverberates in my chest as I pull her closer, “You can use me as a pillow whenever you want, darling. I don’t mind.”  We finished the movie not long after, but neither of us made any effort to move; we just lay there, the only sounds being those of our breaths until Eleni breaks the silence with four whispered words.

“I love you, Loki.” 

My heart skipped a beat hearing those four words. I had to get Eleni to repeat herself to make sure I heard what I thought I did. My brain refuses to comprehend that she said she loves me. After everything I did, she not only chose to enter a relationship with me, but now she loves me. She actually loves me. Her confession left me speechless; I was not anticipating that today…was that what she was trying to tell me all day? Why did she say it now? It doesn’t matter, she said it finally.

“I love you too, my darling,” I answer, kissing her cheek gently. 

Today can’t get better; it’s officially the best I could be. I haven’t been this happy, this feeling in my chest was something unknown to me, but it was such a welcomed feeling, and I hope it never fades.
