Some ramblings on the Tieflings' appearances...

Weirdly enough, this is inspired upon by a comment on a DNDBeyond Facebook post.

There's a book in a few places in the game (most notably Zevlor's area of the Grove) that reference the ritual that Asmodeus and his warlocks did after the Spellplague, which cursed all Tieflings to appear more in his image. Prior to that, my understanding is that Tieflings more closely resembled humans. (Doric from the D&D movie is a good example.)

Many, but not all, of WotC's official artwork in the books show Tieflings with their horns beginning at the brow line, extra growth on the chin to mimic a beard, bumps around their eyes or cheek bones, etc. Many players choose to omit those features in their Tieflings' appearances in their home D&D games. Which leads me to what spurned this ramble: the post I reference showed an old Tiefling woman with obvious protrusions on her brow line and cheeks. The commenter on the post hinted that this was what "old Tieflings used to look like" before everyone decided to make them hot. (To which I say: lulz okay nerd, let people make hot Tieflings.)

Who is the ONLY Tiefling in BG3 who has obvious extra definition to the brow and cheekbones? This handsome fella...

...who is the "old one." Which, admittedly, cracked me up. I'd personally argue that the ridges make him look older than the wrinkles would suggest, but that's neither here nor there.

Now, granted, the fact that the Tieflings aren't more varied in their appearances in the game makes complete sense. Larian could only use so many different facial models when they're giving a set amount to the player, and it's not worth their time to give every NPC a unique face when they could add a lot of variation using the character selection presets.

But we CAN look at the other two unique NPC Tiefling models, Rolan and Dammon:

Dammon's got the more pronounced brow area, which at the very least the face model that Danis and Damays use also share. Both of them also have more pronounced cheekbones that could hint at their infernal ancestry. For me, it's been less obvious on Dammon than it is Rolan; in certain lights in the game, it VERY much looks like his protrude more than normal. I notice it less often with Dammon. Granted, in both their cases, maybe they just have really excellent bone structure, and I'm reading too much into their character models. (Reading too much into things? On TUMBLR? Nah, never happens.) Regardless, two male characters younger than Zevlor don't have as many obvious infernal features, which is an undoubtedly unintentional but still funny call back to "old Tieflings" versus "new Tieflings."

Also consider that Karlach does not share these facial protrusions that the male characters have/seem to have. (I don't think any of the female Tieflings do, and there's some commentary to be had with that, but I digress.)

But who DOES get some extra infernal features in addition to the horns? Wyll. Who is not a Tiefling, but go with it.

For shits and giggles, Mizora and Raphael also have smoother facial features:

Again, I completely understand why most of the NPCs were generic face models for practical reasons. But it is interesting they only gave Zevlor the "traditional" 4e/5e Tiefling look.

GUYS GUYS GUYS GUESS WHAT HAPPENED AT WORK TODAY! (Stupid, not exciting actually quite boring. A little funny) TLDR at the end 🤙🏻

So I was having a horrible no good day today and it was already close to 2100 (when I officially get off) but I still had SO MUCH to do. So let’s set the scene. It’s dark, it’s dreary. It’s raining and it’s cold. But now back to the story. So I went to empty the bins (plastic and paper) and for paper I had an actual bin to empty for plastic I only had a bag. So I set down the bin (this is vital for the story) by the big wheelie bins and put the bag in the designated plastic wheelie bin and picked up the paper bin, opened the big paper wheelie bin and emptied the little paper bin into it. Now remember how i said it was raining, and how I put down the bin? Yeah it slipped right out of my hands into the big bin. And the big bin was emptied like three days ago. So there wasn’t a lot in there. So I had to go find a stepstool, climb into the wheelie bin to retrieve the small bin, in the dark, while it’s raining at 2100 on a Saturday evening. Cars driving by only saw my fat legs dangling oh of the wheelie bin. It was hysterical.

Tldr: I dropped the small bin in the big bin at work and had to climb into the wheelie bin in the dark. It was also raining.

My verdict on the BBC Ghosts Xmas Special:

- Beautifully festive

- Not their best Xmas special tho (because it wasn’t all that humorous imo)

- Emotional. Crying screaming sobbing EVERYTHING.

- Bittersweet ending but honestly so perfect how it felt like it was for good but it wasn’t, because Alison cares, Mike cares, THEY ALL CARE!! Fucking hell!!!

- Also Robin giving the final monologue was so touching for me, since he was the one that was so lost and finally was able to feel it all, being that mix of primal and wise

- MAT AND JIM HOW DARE YOU!!! I’m happy but I’m hurting jfc!!!!

So it’s PuzzleJune, and 2023??? Time sure does fly! I don’t write for puzzleship anymore, but I did for FIVE YEARS, and altho I can’t offer new content, I can bring back my huuuuges fic recs of both my own writing, and all the fics I read over those years (warning for a LOT to sort thru!). Does Neddy exist in your AU?

He does! He and PB were still attached to the Mother Gum during the initial events of the au, but eventually a large wave swept in through the dilapidated building they call home, and swept the Mother Gum away with Neddy still attached. PB on the other hand got separated in the waves, and has spent her life trying to find Neddy and the Mother Gum again.

I think at one point in her loneliness she made Uncle Gumbald, Aunt Lolly, and Cousin Chicle, but obviously that didn’t turn out so well with Gumbald wanting to call all the shots and betray PB.

PB fled them all in the middle of the night and a week later she met Betty. The two of them have been traveling together ever since, with PB looking for Neddy, and Betty looking for Simon.

All in all, Betty has been good family to PB, and vice versa.

Okay update of the day five packages arrived at home (where I currently am not), I bought 200€ shoes (doc martens. It’s cool), a woman assumed my nephew, my friend & I were a queer family wich was weird but also weirdly nice to be perceived as queer. My friend gave me a book ( a fault in our stars in English. I’ve never read it before), I’m on page sixty. I had an ungodly amount of pasta today and im planning on dying my hair red tomorrow.

Ps: I only tf bought about Yassen 12 times today because I was a little busy.

Pps: I downloaded the first season of young royals and the fourth season of sex education wich just got available to me today wich I did not know would happen. Tomorrow is going to be hell.

Ppps: OH! I’m also rewatching red white and royal blue. Again.
