comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously
Did you know Nana Visitor said in an interview she wasn’t considered a beautiful actress in the 90’s? absolutely insane
I actually had a hard time finding reference images for early season short hair big shoulder pads Kira. I guess they did less promo and the camera quality was maybe a bit shit in early on idk but this is my favourite outfit of hers ever I literally wrote about it for uni once
Anyway I can see definite improvement from my Dax painting, i’m still colour picking from the reference so I might challenge myself not to do that next time. I think this took around 3 hours? I should probably start timing myself
I’m really happy i’m getting better at digital painting but it has made me a little sad that I do so little traditional art now. that being said this is soo much easier to post getting a photo of the VVitch poster was so difficult and it would not scan correctly!!
all art is under #my art ,click for better quality !
what type of music would they dance to? i dont even know! but i think dancing with your partner or teaching them how to dance is the peak of wholesomeness!! actually adorable...
I really like the ideation I did for this so bear with me
Coco is drawing magic!
More specifically she's drawing the light magic that inspired her love for magic in the first place (oru's spell) with the tools given to her by Iguin, with the guidance, reasources, and protection of being Qifrey's apprentice. But with a looming threat of how all those could also come together.. ooohhhh.. :P
'cuz if you're gonna pin your love down, do it with style!
I cannot get over how beautifully this artist has captured these two and their personalities with her incredible art style (and she hasn't even seen the show!) my eyes were blessed with this gorgeous piece and I knew I had to sing her praises. Please support this artist and send love her way for she deserves it!!! Thank you so much again for bringing my idea to life!
Of course, being commissions I bought, none of these lovely beautiful pieces are by me. Credits (in order) @frillsand @weevmo @lanlishiba @parrotparfait @kandavers

[Video description: A 60-second timelapse of the process of the above painting.]
The timelapse was made with Clip Studio (a record of my actions on the canvas), not a screen recording, so it doesn't show all the back and forth I did with the undo button trying to get the lineart right, lol. It's pretty condensed, too. There's a 15-minute version if anyone is interested...
