hi so we recently got into dimension 20 and our friends have been tugging us towards critical role for a very long time at this point but we still haven’t watched any of it nor do we know all that much about anything that actually happens in it. however we do intend to actually start watching soon so we decided it was the perfect opportunity to make one of those ‘all the things i know about this thing i haven’t watched’ posts, show it to our critrole friends, and then actually get into critrole and be able to look back and laugh about it later

·       In all honesty, he doesn’t know much about engineering or shit like that. He understands how to fix instruments or the inner workings of the human body (;)), but nothing much about electronics.

·       He’s fascinated by what you can do; you’ve made explosives for the team and embedded veins of enchanted gemstones into Keyleth’s headdress or Vex’s arrow.

·       “Isn’t engineering, like… Like what Percy does?”

·       It is, but you’re talented enough to explore other areas of experimentation.

·       He doesn’t understand how you can make wires and metal work in harmony and in ways more impressive than the pepperbox or, really, anything he’s seen.

·       Even if the contraption doesn’t boil down to wires, instead to roots and leaves, he’s so awed by it. Hell, he’s more awed if it isn’t metal. You made something that works without any man made materials in it.

·       You’re the creator of an electric lute and amplifier for him. Once again, no idea how the hell it works, but complete and utter amazement.

·       It’s got a few malfunctions at first – it’s finicky like any other instrument – but more messing around improves it each time.

·       You teach him the basics about how it works and how to fix it in the events you aren’t with VM, whether it be a separate mission or something… worse.

·       He doesn’t really get anything you do. It’s weird techy stuff like Percy makes. There’s wires and metal and glowy bits.

·       And its all so delicate. You’re able to fix contraptions you made that are smaller than your hand as long as you have your tools with you.

·       You seem to be able to automate whatever you wish with ease, like adding a motor to the cart so VM doesn’t have to spend money to replace horses again and again.

·       The engine is definitely one of your larger creations, but if you remove one of the metal plates, it’s a chaotic mess of multicolered wires and bronze and copper.

·       As utterly awed as he is, he’s unsure about holding much of it. He knows that he could easily break it, so he’d rather not ruin something you worked so hard on.

·       But hey, you love him. You know it’s hard to understand how you made things work, so, instead you make simple contraptions meant for him. Even just welding a metal handle to his axe so there’s less of a chance it will break.

·       Anything made for him is sturdier than your other works and built to last, specifically, for him. Your other contraptions last but are easily breakable.

·       Not what you make for him, though. There’s very simple spells you can ask Pike or Keyleth for help with to work in his favor.

·       This is the only man who has even the slightest idea what the hell you’re doing

·       And holy fucking shit, he loves it.

·       You understand the workings of his Pepperbox as good as him, if not better. An outside gaze is wonderful for tinkering and trying to figure out what’s wrong.

·       You are the only other person allowed in his workshop. If the rest of VM needs him, they can knock and ask him to come out to talk. You? You’re allowed to enter without a knock and join him.

·       With a bit of help from Keyleth, he makes you a welding hood like his – that is, a creepy ass plague doctor mask.

·       Of the time you spend in his shop, your favorite times are when one of VM enters and both you and Percy look up, wearing these horrifying masks, and are met with an “umm I’ll come back later…”

·       You specialize in work that isn’t weapons, but you can look at Bad News and easily and quickly point out “…when you pull the trigger and it ignites the black powder… you didn’t put something in the way to stop the blast from ruining the gears.”

·       That was the piece he had been missing and earned you a a quick peck to the cheek. “Fucking thank you. I’ve been stuck on that since I made it.”

·       “Really? It’s easy to notice. Perhaps you’re just stupid.”

·       “…Not as stupid as you.”

·       “Careful. I’m the only one on this team that can disassemble your guns and make sure you can’t use those pieces again. That’s a threat.”

 Vax’ildan

·       He doesn’t have much of an idea what’s going on (affectionate)

·       His sister was always much smarter than him when it came to things in school or anything having to do with practical creations.

·       That being said, he’ll absolutely try to get what the hell you mean.

·       He’ll catch on quickly if you show him how things work; he still can’t explain why things work, but he could replicate them if you tried.

·       Unlike most of VM’s weapons, there’s not much you can do to add to daggers. They’re about as awesome as they could be.

·       He’ll absolutely encourage you to try your hand at weapons other than his!! Try something with Vex’s bow or arrows, that would be cool!!

·       He’ll gladly try to help; get you whatever equipment you need or water or food.

·       If you’d like to geek out about whatever you’re working on, he’d love to listen!

·       Wouldn’t understand any of it at all, but would love to listen.

do you like halloween? I DO!! october is my favorite month and i just love the spooky autumn aesthetic very much. it’s so COZY. i’m a scaredy cat but i do like watching *some* horror movies too. just in general it’s such a fun season

what do you typically do for the holiday? growing up i always slept over at my best friend’s house and we trick or treated around her neighborhood. in high school & college it was more random, did a corn maze (at night), done a couple haunted houses, sometimes i just end up hanging out and watching a scary movie with pal(s). last halloween i bar hopped with two besties (one of them being the same childhood best friend!) and it was VERY fun. we were dressed as nandor, nadja, and guillermo (me) from what we do in the shadows lmao

are you doing that this year? honestly probably?? but also we haven’t made any plans yet. i’m sure it’ll be fun whatever we end up doing though :)

YES. i’m notoriously so bad at dressing up though. like despite how much i like the season, i always procrastinate on my costume and end up with nothing or the bare minimum. The First Half has been completed

I have finally completed the first phase of my @hellofromthehallowoods dolls, and am super excited to talk about them! beware, however, as this post will inevitably be long. So long in fact, that I actually logged into this godforsaken website rather than use the app, so I could properly type.

Riot was my first doll, which also means she's my least favorite. This was a doll that made many firsts for me, including crocheting pants, and not rooting the hair of the doll. Given my affinity for doll hair, she just never felt complete too me. She also just seemed incredibly bulky due to all of the layers of yarn blanketing her. It makes her rather stiff. That said, I did learn a lot while making her that you'll see through the rest of the first half.

Naturally, Clara came next. I still think she's my favorite of the first phase of dolls. I knew from the start that she wore a dress; although, I had pictured her in something more... calm? regardless, I was doing a huge deep dive into J-fashon at the time, and it likely seeped a bit into my work. I have no regrets. She's adorable! Also she got to be the first doll I've ever embroidered glasses on to!

Did I buy this blue yarn specifically to make this doll? Yes. Do I have any regrets? nope. I based this design loosely on Wednesday Adams, because Friday just frankly gives me those vibes. Her design is quite simple, but I do love how her and Clara look when next too each other.

Diggory Graves was a challenge to design. A known hill I will die on is that they wear a plague doctor mask; however, I knew I'd have a hard time showcasing their skin if I gave them one. Design wise, I like the stitches, so I originally sewed a plague doctor mask to the side of the head, as I had seen that done with creepy pasta fanart in the past.It didn't look as good in a 3D space as it had in 2D, so I ended up getting rid of it all together. Make no mistake however, this character absolutely wears a plague doctor mask.

Percy went through a few designs before I settled on one I liked. I have an incredibly hard time doing short hair, and somewhat wanted to choose a design that would allow that to be a feature rather than a flaw. At the end of the day, I just ended up sort of going for it. I had purposefully made Diggory's hair choppy, so why couldn't I do Percy's the same? He did cut both of their hair at some point.

I adore Olivier so much. Just, I would die for them. I had wanted to make them using a mid tone between the two tones you've seen me use throughout this post, but my dog decided that that yarn was his actually (aka he tore it up and had it all over the house.) Living in the woods, while also being blind and thus unable to drive, does sadly mean that I couldn't just go to my local craft store and pick some up; the show still had to go on. I wanted to link them with Friday by using the same yarn for her dress in their cape. I quite like how this one turned out.

Sadly, Moth is the first, and only time I've ever interacted with a character/ person who uses neopronouns. I'm still trying to get around how they work, and Hello From the Hallowoods is currently my only point of reference to that. I've always imagined Moth having albinism. I don't know why, but I didn't question it when designing the doll. I also went back and forth a lot about giving moth, moth's tattoo, and where it would go. I know its on moth's neck in the show, but the necks on these dolls are frankly way to small to attempt doing that.

Please know that I watched an entire 2 hour documentary about Oscar Wilde, and Spirited away, while rooting her hair, yet I still had time to catch up on a few other podcasts as well. She has so much hair. I may or may not have been crying, and my fingers hurt so bad. I probably should have decided to just give her black hair and save myself the pain, but I refuse to make anything easy for myself. I do not regret anything however, because I love how she turned out.

I was originally going to make Polly before Yaretzi, but someone, who knows who they are, made that difficult. I'm trying to make these dolls as close to the cannon discriptions as I can, so I had to wait out the incident too make sure Polly was OK before making the doll. He was going to be much more pink than he is now, but midway through I decided actually I hated it, and started over in a very me fashion.

You may notice a lack of Mort. I did want to add him to this phase, but I haven't figured out how I wanted to actually go about writing a pattern for him. I adore that hunk of metal so, so much, but I already write my own patterns, and don't really know where to start with him. In all likeliness, he'll make up the final phase of this project. I also didn't post Dogsmell because I hated how he turned out; although he is still on my blog, and will be re-making him at some point.

Because I am going off to college here soon, and do not know what to expect, I have decided to take a break from this project before beginning the second phase. I want to work on other projects in the time being. Once I'm settled in I shall continue on with phase two!

In the intro of TLOVM, there’s this snowy place they’re apparently going to in the future, and I am super excited to see whatever it is because the lighting and just how the background looks for it?? BEAUTIFUL?? It’ll probably be a ways off, with them being arrested and all.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, Is the King still under control? How are they gonna Roll themselves outta this mess? (See what I did there?)

Also I love that when the guards get there, after already shooting the driver, Percy just stands there getting surrounded by guards, and honestly its a cool shot but he is gonna have some EXPLAINING to do to EVERYONE. Considering the others look mighty surprised by what’s happening, he hasn’t done THIS before. Also did I mention I really like his plague Doctor mask? Super cool.

For the ask meme: UH, Vaela and Percy. Zaresh and the Briarwoods, for that matter.

Ugh. UGH!!! I hate you, Beth'ika. Stop encouraging me.

This got too long lmao

Vaela and Percy is a brand new concept that is haunting my every waking thought. It's only upon watching The Legend of Vox Machina that I'm seeing... potential.

Both of them have suffered terrible torture at the hands of people they were supposed to be able to trust. Vaela more so in that regard, but Percy and his family had welcomed the Briarwoods into Whitestone with open arms, as allies. It was very much a betrayal.

So while Vaela's was a more personal betrayal, Percy's was more vast, the Briarwoods killing his whole family. The scope of their loss and pain evens out in the end, which I find fascinating.

And in line with that, they are both on the run and in hiding. What better bond is there than "you watch my back, I'll watch yours"? Percy would not be forthcoming with what he's running from, but neither would Vaela for that matter. But they can see their own paranoia and fear mirrored in each other. The way they each see each other scanning a tavern before they settle in for the night, searching for any familiar faces; the way they look over their shoulders when walking a crowded street; the way they both flinch away from touch.

Vaela would likely be the first to come clean, when Percy catches sight of the horrible scars that ring her wrists—not the least of them, but the among the more visible. Percy is filled with righteous rage over this, but promises Vaela that Zaresh will never touch her again so long as he draws breath.

(There is something I want to add here but it's a potential TLoVM spoiler lmao)

Vaela does not find out about Percy's whole deal until he comes upon someone who associates/had at one point associated with the Briarwoods and he gets all smokey and whips out that plague doctor mask and tortures/brutally murders this person. Vaela is horrified and bolts, having flashbacks to Zaresh. Percy is charming and gentlemanly and kind—just as Zaresh had been.

And here Percy is now, violent and terrifying and sadistic, just as Zaresh turned out to be.

Which would of course be the point where the Briarwoods would somehow scoop Vaela up for their new friend Zaresh. Zaresh who had been hired by the Briarwoods to find a runaway noble, only to come upon his long lost prized possession. Two birds with one stone here. He gets Vaela back, and this noble boy will come running for her.

And come running Percy does, enraged and oozing black smoke.

AND NOW FOR ZARESH AND THE BRIARWOODS.

As I just said, it would be a delightfully similar arrangement to the one he had with Cobalt. Zaresh comes upon Whitestone for some easy prey, and he's heard some rather nefarious things about the Lord and Lady of this land. It intrigues him, and he can't possibly resist anything intriguing.

Word reaches the Briarwoods that townspeople are dying, and not due to the dealings of their underlings. They are equally intrigued and somehow arrange to have him brought to the manor.

And Zaresh swoops in with all of his dazzling charm, and immediately recognizes the predatory gleam in Sylas' eyes, the cunning smirk upon Delilah's lips—and he is immediately drawn to them

And the Briarwoods see his act for what it is, and they are delighted.

Picture the scene with Vax, except no charm is needed here. Zaresh has to fight a bit more for the dominance he craves than he does with Cobalt, but both Sylas and Delilah are amused by it.

"Play at the powerful drow hunter you think yourself to be, little one," Delilah thinks as she runs her fingers through his snow white hair, as Sylas drags his too sharp teeth along the flesh of his shoulder. "That power you hold is an illusion I allow you to indulge in."

At the talk of what Zaresh has lost, the Briarwoods strike a bargain: find the wayward de Rolo and bring him back. In return, we will help find your lovely wood elf.

After all, this would just mean more playthings around the house for everyone, right?

also, bc i'm me, would love to hear ur thoughts on a vox machina au that's close to canon but not quite bc it's a modern setting and they're superheroes instead. my headcanons for this are all sad vaxleth but to be fair that's just who i am as a person

1. i imagine they’re like justice league style superheroes? in that they’re very publicly known and sanctioned, at least in their superhero personas. they’ve probably got a ridiculous base somewhere that’s super easy to find but percy has rigged it out completely with absurd traps.

2. relatedly, percy is batman. (but with a plague doctor mask and guns)

3. grog and pike do the fastball special in combat, also, why has this never happened in canon (ok i looked it up and it’s happened with other combos so i’m partially satisfied)

4. superheroes have a bad habit of turning evil temporarily or being mind controlled, even more than dnd characters, and i think that probably fucks with everyone a lot. i imagine maybe it takes even longer for them to all trust each other at first because this kind of thing happens and it’s hard to tell. there was a really bad one once with evil vex that was a rough time for everyone involved. (that said, it’s also happened enough to them now that it’s kind of a joke.)

5. they’re not real superheroes unless people debate who would win. scanlan is a good bet, since he has a suggestive voice and could theoretically compel the others to give up.

ive seen a lot of art of percy’s spooky murder disguise and honestly i wasnt paying enough attention to know if the plague doctor vibe is canon but i couldnt stop thinking about actual real plague masks and how silly as hell they look so um

Our adventures continued...

As our still unnamed team of adventurers carried on...though the name Hummus 13 came up, if only because of the perfect role that ended up in the dip bowl.

After securing the upper rooms of the general store as a place to stay for free whenever we wanted, we were informed of the story of “The Snatcher”. A strange man, wearing a black robe and a white bird plague doctor mask had been making off with the elderly and ill, sometime in the night, for the last few months. But no one had seen him or the missing people for weeks. They say the tracks headed west, so we agreed to to take a look....once we took care of the goblins that had made their home deep beneath the city of Banner, right in the sewers.

So we headed to the riverside, the entrance to the sewers and proceeded to rid them of goblins. It.... took awhile. Mainly because it was bad throws from us, and bad throws from the DMs. But eventually, the goblins and their hobgoblin leaders fell to our might..... and I got a maul after looting. Goodie.

After a long rest and a healing at the magic school, we set off for the west in search of the Snatcher. Coming upon a creepy house, we inspected it, seeing a yard full to moaning, shambling people, as the Snatcher himself, stood at the door laughing at us. We moved to engage, defending ourselves against our attackers  - our Druid, lawfully good as she is, tore after him, beseeching us to stun them all, in case we could cure them of what we assumed was zombieism, while she rushed on ahead.

And... well, now our good roles came back. The time when no one wanted them to do. Instead of stunning, over half of the 20+ people got hit with high powered hits or criticals. What made matters worse, was our cleric (after receiving a secret note from the DM, a mechanic that he had put into play, to create backstories hidden from everyone except their own players) had no desire to stun, and merely went for full power hits, casting sacred flame without pity.

As our druid intercepted the Snatcher, she tried to stop him without hurting him, and accidentally slew him. Wracked with remorse, she found an exploded alchemy set, and a notebook telling of who the man was... merely a man, wishing to care for the old, and suffered from an accident during his experimentation that left everyone delirious and full of anger. With horror, the druid and the team discovered they had indeed ruined an old tyme attempt at a nursing home. (Wow. Thanks DM.) The druid insisted to save those that had survived, as the rest debated over telling the mayor the real truth of what happened here, less we be tried for our unintentionally awful acts. But the cleric, angry at the tampering of life or perhaps some other unknown reason, picked up the bird mask in her hands, and asked if this was proof enough, and burned the Snatcher’s lifeless form with her sacred flame, as she snarled “Your soul is forfeit.”. As the house burn, the team fled, dragging a cart with the survivors behind them, back to the town with uncertainty ahead.....

So. Yeah. That’s where last night’s tale went. Perhaps the most ironic, at least for me, as I am the aforementioned Cleric, is literally half way through the Briarwood plot of Critical Role.  And witness not two days ago, Percy in his bird plague mask saying that famous line. Suddenly, I am put in a similar enough situation by sheer coincidence. I had to ham that one up. It would have been a shame not too.

Now then, what other dangerous is our team going to encounter next time....?
