Stillness in the swaying field of yellow grass. A figure standing against the light of the setting sun. A sighing body curled atop a pile of pillows in the quiet of a dark room.

Gruff, teeth, dark-water, black-ice, sharp, crossed, hmpf, bared, tension, metal, rend, trap, protected, folded, pressed, thought, disinterest, bulk, winter, dreary, narrowed, rapids, quick, snap. Standing in an open field under a rolling storm, sky tinged blue-gray as the thick rolling clouds rumble above. Feeling the vibration in your chest with hands clenched into fists at your sides.

Grim-

Quiet, stalk, watch, slouch, silent, chase, behind, hum, knowing, wrapped, keep, no escaping, shh, learn, curiosity, intriguing, lead, trap, nudge, encourage. The reluctance of accepting a caged warmth within the dangers of a blizzard. The trembling of a mechanism taken apart only to be gently put back together. The soft whisper of a voice that leads you down the winding path even when it ends death.

Wukong: We should watch a movie right now that we’re not busy. Macaque: Yeah relax a bit right now that it’s quiet Wukong:…wait…quiet…? Mac + SWK: THE BABY Xiaotian gigging in the other room

Xiaotian was and still is a handful, but he’s adorable and Mac and Wukong would not change him for the world

(Lore wise this happens after Macaque moves full time to FFM with Xiaotian so I find it funny that anytime the baby did something so Wukong, Macaque would portal over to Wukong just to show him off,,, Macaque mom mode activated)

Falling in love with an outer god

(Just wanted to imagine what it’d look like if Mel took a draconic form in front of Lazuli. I guess it’d be more voidy and nightmarish in game cause of the Fallen Aasimar of the Awful Deep thing, but let’s just say that Mel could also be related to a golden dragon who was also Pelor’s favorite so… 👀 I wanted to try a fairytale/medieval vibe here, kinda happy with how it turned out! thinking about how the extra area added on to a pacifist run of undertale, the true lab, is about alphys's past mistakes. how it ends with the story reaffirming that, despite the pain she's caused, the thing that matters is that she has now made the choice to do the right thing. she's still worthy of her friends' love.

thinking about how undertale doesn't expect the player to get a pacifist ending for the first time. how it's more likely than not that the player will kill toriel the first time they battle her, how lots of players don't initially figure out how to end undyne's fight without killing her, etc. what it expects — not even expects, really, but hopes — is that the player, if they care enough, will use their canonically acknowledged power over time to make up for those mistakes.

no matter how many neutral runs a player has done before committing to the pacifist run, the thing that matters to the characters, to the story, is that you've chosen, now, to do the right thing.

compared to alphys, the player honestly gets off lightly, in that you're the only one (other than flowey) who really remembers any harm you might have caused. and any direct guilting the game could have done about it is long past at this point. instead, as undertale often does, it makes its point via parallels: alphys caused harm, and she knows it. she has committed to being better. in doing so, she has unlocked for herself a better ending to her story. and she deserves it. she's forgiven.

those structural narrative parallels are all over undertale, if you know where to look. and that's one of the things that makes it so fuckin' good.

meredith stannard is alive and kicking and is also planning a war against tevinter

red templars are in control of the gallows; it's hard to tell what's going on in the city itself, but with varric absent it might be left with no viscount again

there's an elven graveyard on sundermount where ancient elves entered uthenera; it is also possibly dedicated/related to mythal

there was also a demon contained in an idol on top of sundermount who supposedly possessed a great knowledge about arlathan and eluvians

the veil in kirkwall has always been remarkably thin and tevinter magisters were weakening it on purpose during their reign; the whole city was built as an enormous blood magic ritual site

if the veilguard squad is going to travel through the eluvians there's still one in kirkwall. the one that has been plot-relevant since dao

Rivain has some of the most interesting politics how did they fumble it so hard in DATV my gosh.

Like. Sorry. Sorry. But. Here's some things about Rivan that just, are canonical.

In 9:40 the circle in Rivan was annulled because a) they were teaching students there the cultural practices of seers which involve spirit possession and b) they let the circle mages interact freely with friends and family outside of the circle.

Bi-annual festival where all the seers come to the (chantry controlled) capitol to pledge themselves to the queen of Rivain. No information on how that practice has changed since the seekers came and annuled the circle but you bet it has??

Chantry only has real control in one single city despite claiming it as one of the chantry controlled nations of Thedas.

Only place where there's a peaceful Qun city/outpost that lives in harmony with the rest of Rivani society

Plenty of qun converts/families from the time when the Qunari ruled that part of the world; many refused to give up the Qun when Rivan was retaken and while some of those families suffered persecution many didn't.

Seers! Wise women! Matriarchy where the leaders of villages/towns rely on spirits to help guide them

It seems like they've got loads of spirit healers there, which makes me think they may have some of the most advanced medical practices anywhere in Thedas outside of maybe Tevinter?

Largely a trade-based economy outside of the big cities rather than relying on traditional Thedas currencies

And yeah they've got pirates and treasure hunters and that's obviously super fun to explore but they're so much more than the lord's of fortune. So so much more.
