This feels so misogynistic to me?? Idk. I honestly assumed the messages Leuce received from Hades were probably from Kronos possessed hades and while i wouldve perferred it was actually just Hades himself who, after going through it because he missed persephone and was lonely or something, messaged Leuce (a pink nymph-) out of desperation and now regrets it or feels guilty. But whatever the kronos excuse was what they were going for, at least i assumed, but. This? This is so much worse??

Not only does it feel like a retcon but it further characterisatises Leuce as "haha 'crazy' stupid lower class woman who wants to steal persephones man. Persephones totally justified abusing her power to threaten her ^^ because shes soooo 'crazy' and dumb and 'annoying' ^^" like ??? It feels really misogynistic and the more I think about it kinda ableist??? Idk just the way it's sort of framing her being "stupid" and "annoying" like it's something that makes her deserving of what Persephone did to her. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth

what would i even post about thats more "embarrassing" than superhero comics or sonic the hedgehog. i liveblogged the entirety of lore olympus

my energy has been low lately so i've stuck to just liveblogging chapter releases, but i was thinking earlier about why lore olympus really nettles me and it's truly indicative of a wider issue.

it's disappointing that a major ancient religion that is still practiced by some people today has been reduced to a caricature of itself, and i say this knowing that there are thousands of reinterpretations of the greek myths, there will always be a new opinion or retelling of them. retelling the myth of hades and persephone isn't necessarily the issue, so much as the constant and dripping disdain to the cultural roots. we don't need to be greek to appreciate the story, but why remove everything greek from it? why westernize every aspect and remove ties to the cultural roots? why whitewash everything from a myth thousands of years old?

part of the reason these myths continue to resonate with us is because the themes are still relevant today. the loss of a child, the struggle against impossible forces, the (often patriarchal) powers against you, a mothers love. these stories hold power, they gave hope and inspiration, they created meaning and connection, and they were vital to the people who lived in that time, in that place. they will resonate with us for many years still, but stripping the roots and core of it out only makes it a hollow, shallow imitation. it's reality tv with neon colours, no love or heritage present; it's cold and shiny and plastic, and it insults what it claims to portray.

Am reading lore Olympus for the first time. I love this art style, but Hades. Hades you shouldn't trash talk aph. She heard you. She hates not being the prettiest. Oh no.

i’m not trying to condone any of her actions in LO -- and it seems like her story is basically the same in greek mythology, after a cursory search on wikipedia -- but like wowww such feminism.  we couldn’t retell the story to be more sympathetic to minthe?  nah guess not.

Hades by Supergiant > Lore Olympus

likeable protagonist who doesn’t flip-flop between motivations every second

portrays abusive parent-child relationships in a respectful and serious manner instead of just exploiting the topic for Drama™

Actual compelling mystery that gets a satisfying conclusion

Hades and Persephone’s designs are dope. all the designs are dope. it’s not just slapping a random color on a god and calling it a day. there’s actual personality and detail in every character-portrait.

healthy friendships between women

once the main mystery is done it is done. no endless mystery boxes just awkwardly sitting there for the next 100+ hours

All possible romance options are fully consensual, there is no unhealthy power dynamic in any of them and most importantly no creepy 1000+ year age-gap

acknowledges the more problematic aspects of Greek mythology without dropping it like a hot potato once it gets too uncomfortable

Clark + other giants=earth/guardians of earth, leader=Umber (guardian of the earth mask). Carmen + other mermaids=water/water guardians, leader=Axel (guardian of the water mask). so what about air (leader=Grolem 13 (guardian of the air mask)) and fire (leader=Foutch (guardian of the fire mask))?

AIGHT OK i wrote a long ass thing first about Minotaurs being the fire guardians but honestly then I just realized a thing.There are Dragons in the Glade.

how could i forget about the dragons.

I’m more keep to believe the Dragons from the Teensies in Trouble levels can be considered what remains of the Fire Guardians - partially because the Olympus is something more into Earth mythology rather than the Glade’s so I don’t think the Dragons from there are native from the Glade (i hc the Olympus Maximus and the Underwater Base to come directly from Earth after the Rabbids made a mess in RRR2/Travel in Time dont mind me), but also because these fuckers breathe fire!!!!!!!!!

Probably the original Guardian Dragons were way bigger than these fellows, and these guys are what remains after evolution and/or the Nightmares did their job. Probably the’re villains because of Dark’s influence in Legends or because they went completely insane after the Heart of the World was destroyed in Rayman 2 p much like Foutch??? I’m more keen to believe the first one, but probably they were more likely to be influenced by Dark Magic because their leader got weaker. Mind you I’m literally writing whatever comes, I’m reasoning in this exact moment lmao

The real issue would be who the heck are the Air Guardians. In terms of mythology the only creatures I can consider anything like that are stuff like Harpies or Angels, so that’s quite an issue.I don’t think I remember any kind of birdperson in Rayman except the Mocking Bird, so maybe she’s one of the last Guardians, or whatever remains of them since her original form isn’t exactly threatening or BIG
