Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also I have a lot of ask right now (like 7 or so), so sorry everyone if you don't see yours answered directly !!! I'm trying to keep uploading main go play pikmin drawing only on Monday, so it'll take time before i answer everyone.
Also I might not draw an ask every time there's one in my inbox because I still have a backlog of funny drawing I wanna post !!
So please be patient :p I won't forget anyone !!! (at least it makes me draw some asks regularly)
(but louis-pikman you'll always be my priority as the best propaganda enjoyer)

What are good plants to grow to attract Lepidoptera (and more specifically their larvae) into your garden? I’ve personally tried to grow milkweed on multiple occasions (even the native kind) and no monarchs have shown up
Unsure what to do
It depends hugely on where you live and exactly what you want to attract. There's a huuuuuuge variety of species and host plants that would work for any given location. Check out this Xerces Society resource where you can click your region and get info on native plants for pollinators in that area: https://xerces.org/pollinator-resource-center

Do you know what this is?
I think it’s a beetle with some fabric stuck on it but I’m not sure
Southern Nevada
Yup, doesn't look fungal or anything. Looks like lint or fabric and some hairs. The beetle is a darkling, maybe Bothrotes sp.

What kind of inchworm is this?
Southern Nevada, Mojave Desert
I don't recognize it, but it doesn't look like a geometer or a plusiine looper moth, which are generally the caterpillars called inchworms. Looks more like something in Erebidae maybe.

What species
Please remember to include your location if you want an ID.
This one is distinct, though. Trichonephila clavipes.

Here are some random bugs I’ve cared for for your enjoyment
Tumblr media
For a little while I raised an Arizona blonde tarantula but sanely she died a couple years ago
I’ve raised a couple of moth caterpillars
(Not sure why I prefer moths over butterflies but yea)
Isopods (common pill bugs) and a millipede
Lastly a wolf spider
Was there meant to be more photos? Only the one went through! But she was a very lovely tarantula, RIP.

In your opinion what is the line between arthropods and what people consider bugs?
I know by definition bed bugs, Assassin bugs and stink bugs are “true” bugs, but I am talking about to the un informed public
I guess I'm not sure what you mean because in general bugs ARE arthropods? The common term "bug" varies hugely from person to person so I couldn't really define it in a broad way. I can only say what I personally consider a bug for the scope of this blog - most terrestrial invertebrates including some who live partially or totally in fresh water. But not really any crustaceans except for terrestrial isopods. I would include terrestrial and freshwater worms, though I don't know a ton about them myself.

I still love these guys
Decided because it’s winter from where I’m at, why not raise a couple using leftover leaves from the summer
They get so big
They are very cute!
