Yep, another of these little mini Lego-ish kits.

I genuinely enjoyed building the first kit - even though it was so quick. When my wife decided she wanted to build another one I had to join in too. So I picked up this weird little archeology shop thing.

This one came with an odd runner of little tools. They really look like they belong in a garage, not some kind of archeological workshop. There's a couple wrenches, a screwdriver, an oil can, a tire iron, a socket wrench...

My headcanon is that this shop exists in some kind of post-apocalyptic setting. So they're digging these tools up out of some buried garage.

Once again there's a surprising amount of detail in this build. And, unfortunately, much of that is inside the building. There's treasure chests, gems, goblets, plants... All hidden away out of sight once the thing is built.

This kit had a lot more stickers than the last one. Lots of hieroglyphic-looking signs and stuff. They turned out pretty well for the most part... But I put that round one on wrong and couldn't correct it. Oops!

The whole build only took me a couple hours, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results. It's a quick, fun build. And it looks decent in the end.

I find myself wondering if they've got any sci-fi kits like this...

earring tour!!

this is mostly for @bildads-shoes but hopefully other people enjoy this self-indulgent sharing of my earring collection. i hope this lives up to your expectations loz <333 (this was a nice break from my english homework)

#LoZ AU: The Courage of Running Away

So Link makes it through the desert in the caravan’s care, and as promised, Torock sends him ahead to Gerudo Canyon with his son Taro, to meet the third of Tonbo’s uncles.

[Image Description: Safee and Link are walking next to one another.  Safee asks, “So you’re going ahead to see Torock’s brother because your dad’s waiting in Gerudo City?”  “Yeah,” Link says.  Safee covers her mouth with a hand and snorts, putting one hand on Link’s shoulder.  “I hope he has FUN then!” she snickers.  Link stares at her in question.  The scene switches to show Astramorus penned by two Gerudo women about his own age; the taller of the two is taller than him and the shorter is shorter than him.  The taller, looming, grins and asks, “Hey, handsome, can I buy you a Noble Pursuit?”  The other snaps, “BACK OFF Birna I saw him FIRST!”  Astramorus is responding to this with obvious displeasure.  Flowers adorn the background.  A narrative box notes: “Astramorus did not have fun.”  End ID.]

Those two ladies are named Somara and Birna after the canes from Alttp, yes I can do that, and no they don’t care that Astramorus is a piece of shit because they’re the kind of ladies that hit on unsuspecting guys in the middle of the street.  XD  

Obviously Gerudo City isn’t quite the same... .uh.  All that *waves hands* as Gerudo Town in BotW.  (There’s.  There’s a lot of middle-eastern specific orientalism going on there I’m not going into in the middle of an AU fic post except to acknowledge it and say that I’m trying to avoid doing it.)  This is also because these are AU Gerudo whose gender disparity is 1-99 instead of just.  Whatever the fuck nonsense.  

But Link doesn’t get to see all that because he’s going to go meet

UNCLE TURBO

Yes, Tonbo’s uncles are Torik, Torock and Turbo, no, I have no regrets, Uncle Turbo is the fucking best and I laughed for three days after coming up with him.  He runs a racing minigame!  He’s also where Link is going to get a mount to take him the rest of the way to Hyrule Castle Town.

So Torock leads Taro and Link into the stable, and here is what greets them:

And this was done entirely to pander to my friend @entamewitchlulu​ but I do actually have a justification for how the unicorn works!

1.  The Ancient Bridle and Saddle from BotW allow your horse to teleport to you and also give your horse more stamina, and they’re basically a unicorn costume

2.  This unicorn is basically a friendly spirit that I think Turbo got into his stable by being very, VERY good with his animals.  

Tonbo’s family is made of Super Swell Dudes, is what I’m saying.

Anyway she can’t teleport with someone on her back but she CAN give Link a ride, and after some mini gaming and bribing with treats he’s basically made friends and Isabel, here, is basically this Link’s Epona.

So Link is on HIS way, let’s see what Astramorus is doing:

what snes games do you have!

It's the SNES mini so it comes with Contra 3, Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, FFiii, F-Zero, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, LoZ Link to the past, Mega man X, Secrete of Mana, Star Fox 1 & 2, street fighter 2 turbo, Castlevania 4, super ghouls and ghosts, Mario Kart, Mario RPG, Mario World, punch out and Yoshi's island. ^_^

I stumbled across these LOZ Ideas Street Mini kits when I was doing Christmas shopping this last year. I got my wife a magic shop one, which she thoroughly enjoyed. So I had to try building one myself.

This is basically a miniature Lego set. The bricks all look like tiny little Legos. And they've got a similar build quality - everything fits together very tightly.

The instructions are very clear and easy to follow without any actual text. Although there are a few spots where it isn't really clear exactly which color brick is supposed to be used.

This kit really reminds me a lot of Dragon Quest Builders 2. A lot of the items have that kind of block-ish feel to them. Obviously a thing - not just blocks like in Minecraft, but still kind of chunky and block-ish.

There's a tiny little minifig kind of guy, which is adorable.

There's a genuinely surprising amount of detail in this build. Lots of little bottles and jars. There's some stickers that add signage and wood-plank details.

Unfortunately, all this detail is largely hidden once the kit is built. You can peek into the first floor from the back... But that second floor is almost-entirely enclosed.

It's a fun little build. Very quick and easy - it only took me a couple hours. But the end result looks very nice. I just wish so much wasn't hidden inside where you can't see it.

Bend those knees, clasp those hands and say your prayers, metal has a new God and it’s shaped like While She Sleeps…

Metal is a genre that raises so many issues and pitfalls before anyone has the common decency to turn up the stereo. Many recoil at the word, picturing the sweaty, dark balls of misunderstood testosterone that comes with such a label. Many call out the developments and changes of the metal scene, calling ‘fake’ on the many sub-plots (*cough* crabcore) to the complex and aggressive story that has seen this sound worm its way through human life. Whatever way you look at it, metal is at war. It’s at war with music, it’s at war with itself and it’s at war with its own identity.

What people seem to overlook, is that metal can be so much more and While She Sleeps are eager to prove with their third full-length album.

Sleeps: Just your average intense staring.

You Are We is the sound of heart. Pure, beating, pulsing, heart. Full-blooded and full-throttle, unrelenting and unstoppable. Sleeps have always hinted at such brilliance. Their debut was stunning, their mini-album before was honest and brash but they have never been so concise and ruthless in their execution. Until now. You Are We is a collection of songs not so much written but constructed, block by block, word by word, hoisted and carefully placed to produce ingeniously crafted epics that build upon the raw underbelly that has always been this quintet’s speciality.

Jagged and full of the passion that this five-piece can’t help but live and breathe; title-track You Are We is merely a prelude of what is to come. Building from a soft falsetto of plucking strings, the song builds into a crescendo, beautifully highlighted by a tight melody that will continue to adorn the record. Nothing is without noticeable improvement. Guitarist’s Mat Welsh and Sean Long weigh in with soaring vocals that no one could have seen either man producing before now, adding resonance and bulk to songs previously built on pure ferocity.

Single Feel is a great example of Welsh and Long’s vocal impact. A speed merchant of a song built on chugging riffs and devil horned solos, it takes such craftsmanship for the song to slip so seamlessly into its soaring chorus. “Said the Nomad to the sea, what is home without these streets I know?”  It’s a line that cuts straight to the emotions and only Sleeps can deliver it with such raw emotion. Empire of Silence is just another expose of their vocal brilliance. Possibly the lightest song Sleeps have ever made, it is full of iridescent cleans and moments of drawn out calm that are so easily woven into the very fabric of the piece. It’s a tapestry of music and Sleeps are incapable of doing anything if it’s not totally seamless.

Similarly, Hurricane capitalises on everything that is monumental about this album. Loud, passionate, full of the heavy riffs expertly sprinkled with the melody of angels, Hurricane is possibly the catchiest, heaviest song you will ever hear and it resonates like a thousand cathedral bells heralding the end times. Maybe, it is heralding the end times. Who knows? It’s that good.

Whilst the emotions and god-like composition has put While She Sleeps into the next league of the British scene, they are still able to deliver on those moments of sheer brutality that contribute to that trademark word: heavy. Track Revolt is a ball-breaking epic of a song, full of solos, sweeps, enough chuggery (technical term) to create a vortex over the Atlantic, it is a stern reminder that this quintet are still eager to let their dark side show.

Following this vein of thought, Silence Speaks is a crunching metal song. Frontman Loz Taylor seems to escape all credit with his modest demeanour but his vocals are a serrated blade to the gums in this track. Angry, ragged and raw, he powers through a heavy power ballad of screams, before duelling with fellow Yorkshireman Oli Sykes. He may steal the limelight a bit but it’s good to hear the Bring Me the Horizon frontman shred his larynx one last time for his brothers. Plus the breakdown to his line “I think the silence speaks volumes” will make you swing your fist like a fucking nut job. Case closed.

At the end of the day Metal will always be a genre of contention. It will always be marginalised; it will always internally struggle with its identity. Never the less, While She Sleeps have created something undeniably special here. They’ve not stuck to the script and, as a result, have produced the most important metal album since Slayer’s Reign In Blood.

Honest, loud, raw, heavy, melodic and beautiful. It is everything While She Sleeps have been, everything they are and everything they could be. Don’t miss the revolution, it’s trapped in this album and it’s raring to get out.
