rewriting Marcus’s scenes in The Vanishing!
you read the title. what else do i need to say.
i do want to say. i absolutely love Marcus’s initial reveal in the first few minutes of the vanishing (the fist bump with Giselle lives rent free in my head) but i think they should’ve been more mean to Douglas . so im writing this
im using my usual script form for my other scenes n stuff ! it starts out mainly the same in the original episode but I made everything even more sad <3
also! when you’re done reading id like for u to reblog/reply with your favorite line :)) i wanna know!!
cw some swearing lol (also this is quite long)
INT GISELLE’S LAB, HALLWAY
The Team runs inside, aiming their weapons about, searching for any evil androids or Giselle.
DONALD: Adam, Bree, Chase, and I will go this. Douglas, you and Leo go--
Donald is cut off by a panicked and scared “Daniel” running in, clothes slightly singed from Giselle’s whip.
“DANIEL”: Guys!
DOUGLAS: Daniel, god I’m so glad you’re okay!
CHASE: (Urgently) Where are the students?
“DANIEL”: In the other room, hurry! Come on!
INT GISELLE’S LAB, MAIN ROOM
The Team all follow “Daniel” into Giselle’s main lab, which is decorated in a futuristic styling, but mostly every surface and wall is covered in android blueprints or parts, but still manages to look presentable.
DONALD: Oh wow, this place is fancy!
DOUGLAS: (Sarcastically) Don’t worry, I have the name of her decorator.
DONALD: Really?
DOUGLAS: No!
CHASE: Where are they...?
All the doors begin to close behind them, clicking audibly.
BREE: Hey, the doors! They’re locking!
LEO: What’s going on...?
Behind the Team, “Daniel” moves over to the side, away from the group. As they move, Douglas instinctively moves closer to them. As the Team look around, a large door slowly opens behind them, and Giselle saunters out, all while talking to them.
Giselle speaks in a tone that she knows something big that the Team doesn’t, and most notably glances at “Daniel” every once in awhile while she talks.
GISELLE: Well, well, well... So nice to see all the family together again.
DOUGLAS: (Bitterly) Giselle, you have five seconds to tell me where all the kids are before I blast you.
Douglas aims his gun at her, but she gives him a once over and his weapon lowers slightly. She wanders over to a monitor, and clicks a few keyboard buttons.
GISELLE: thousand-and-one, thousand-and-two, thousand-and-three... and thousand-and-four. There they all are.
She turns the monitor around for the Team to see, and they all take in the fact that on the screen, they can see Daniel. Adam is the first person to physically notice that Daniel is caged, and “Daniel” is standing behind them.
ADAM: Wait, how is Daniel here and in there?! This is- This is just like the last time, with the two Chases!
DOUGLAS: It’s an android, that’s not my son!
“DANIEL”: (Mocking) Oh, can’t I be both?
Giselle presses a few buttons on her watch, and before the Team’s eyes, “Daniel” shifts to be taller, and turns into Marcus.
DOUGLAS: (Fearful) M-Marcus...?
MARCUS: Good to see ya... Dad.
Fade to Black
Fade in
Marcus looks to be hiding a thinly veiled rage, eyes metaphorically boring holes into Douglas’s face. Douglas can tell that if they wanted to, Marcus could laser Douglas’s eyes before anyone could react. Douglas’s gun is lowered almost completely, as he takes in the fact Marcus is alive.
MARCUS: What’s wrong, Dad? No hug, no “good to see you”. (Mocking) Where’s the love?
With how Marcus speaks, it’s clear that they are finding an enjoyment in taunting Douglas. It’s reminiscent of the times where Marcus was taunting Leo.
DOUGLAS: How are.. How are you alive?
GISELLE: Oh, I can answer that.
Giselle smiles evilly.
GISELLE: When I was making my “movie”, Douglas wouldn’t stop bragging about his greatest invention... a bionic android with strength, speed, and intelligence. I spent far too long searching for Chase’s intelligence, I completely overlooked that Marcus already had it. So, I dug them up and reassembled them, piece. by. piece.
She turns to directly face Douglas, her smile falling from her face. Marcus stands beside her, attempting to look threatening, although they appear to be faking it.
GISELLE: And, because of that intelligence, Marcus has a photographic memory, meaning they remember everything from their past.
She points her finger at him.
GISELLE: Including, everything you did.
DOUGLAS: What? Me?! Why me? Leo was the one who hated you!
LEO: It’s true. In fact, I very much still do.
Marcus gets in Douglas’s face, and unseen to everyone but Douglas, they appear to be on the brink of tears, but are able to hide it well. Douglas almost notices.
MARCUS: When they attacked me, you ran away. You were my creator, and you left me to die. I trusted you, with everything. And you couldn’t even give me the bare minimum of treating me like your son.
DOUGLAS: Uh, in my defense, I wasn’t aware that you could’ve been rebuilt. Thought you were gone forever.
Donald raises his gun.
DONALD: Alright Marcus, it’s time we finish you for--
Marcus waves two of their fingers and launches both Donald’s and Douglas’s weapons from their hands and throwing them across the room.
Giselle cackles.
GISELLE: You don’t stand a chance against us. I’ve upgraded Marcus, they’re so much more powerful than you could ever make them.
Leo gains a surge of confidence, and walks over to the pair, chest puffed out.
LEO: Well, they’re going to have to be more powerful, because there’s four of us now. That’s right, bushy brow, I’m bionic now too.
Marcus seems to have an expression that is disbelieving, but their overall tone seems more impressed rather than suspicious.
MARCUS: Seriously?
GISELLE: (Annoyed) It’s just his little arm.
LEO: (Also annoyed) And my little leg!
Giselle pushes Leo back with the Rats.
CHASE: It doesn’t matter how powerful you are, we took you out once, we’ll do it again!
Marcus flies up and shoots electricity at the Team, knocking the four of them unconscious. Douglas and Donald both run over instantly, checking their pulses.
GISELLE: (Almost genuine) Nice work.
MARCUS: (Hesitant) Thanks, mom.
Giselle looks disgusted at Marcus’s words, and physically recoils from the name.
GISELLE: Don’t call me that, never call me that.
MARCUS: (Dejected and quieter) Okay...
Fade to Black
Fade in
Douglas and Donald are tied back to back, both of them are struggling to escape, which hinders them both respectively. The bindings seems to tighten every time they move.
Giselle wanders in, holding something resembling an empty sword hilt. She sheaths it in her belt.
GISELLE: Oh good, the pain is settling in.
DONALD: (Hurried) Listen, you- you don’t have to do this! We can make a deal, what do you like, money, leather jackets?! I can get you as many leather jackets as you want. (Mumbling) I probably have some that fit you...
Giselle’s expression turns from a cruel joy, to angered in a split second.
GISELLE: The only thing I want is to watch your face as the chips slowly melt from their skulls. Why don’t I turn up the volume so you can hear every part of their screams as they wail in agony?
Douglas looks over Giselle, and stares at her jacket.
DOUGLAS: (Desperate sounding) Giselle, listen, I know we ended on a rough patch... breaking up, you trying to kill me... but, I’ll- I’ll give you everything about my androids! Come on, I’ve dated way worse than a maniac trying to kill me and my family! In fact, it’s pretty much my type!
DONALD: Douglas!
Giselle completely stone-walls him.
GISELLE: How rude of me Douglas... here I am, giving your brother a show, and you don’t have anything! Marcus, bring him in!
Marcus walks in, stern faced and holding Daniel back by the forearms. He’s clearly struggling.
DANIEL: Let go! Get off me!
Daniel sees Douglas.
DANIEL: Dad!
Douglas, without thinking, calls out;
DOUGLAS: Get your hands off my son!
Marcus gives him a cold glare.
MARCUS: “Your son”? Like I was your son?
DANIEL: W-Wait, they’re my brother?!
MARCUS: (Bitterly) I won’t be for long.
Marcus throws Daniel across the room, and he lands on rolling table filled with metal android parts, most notably being Marcus’s old framework.
DOUGLAS: Marcus, please, just stop.
MARCUS: Are you kidding me? I can do this all day. And I think I will.
Fade to Black
Fade in
Marcus is busy chucking Daniel about, and he’s starting to show defined bruises. As they make a move to throw him again, an alarm blares. Marcus, wanting to be useful, tries to switch objectives.
MARCUS: I’ll go take care of them.
GISELLE: (Angry) No!
Marcus stills immediately, straightening up. Giselle readjusts and she smiles again.
GISELLE: Let them get their hopes up. (Grinning) They won’t be getting very far.
Giselle storms out of the room, mumbling to herself incoherently. As she leaves, Daniel creeps up behind Marcus, and hits them with a pipe. It bends around their frame, and Daniel looks shocked to see it didn’t do anything.
DANIEL: Well, what do you know? You broke my pipe!
Marcus smiles and shrugs in a mocking way, then grabs Daniel and makes a move to throw him again.
DOUGLAS: Marcus!
Despite wanting to follow Giselle’s orders, Marcus halts, keeping a tight grip on Daniel’s arms.
DOUGLAS: Marcus, I know I made you to be evil, but I-I can reprogram you! We can be a family again. You, me, Daniel... We could uh, adopt a girl! Or a kitten!
DANIEL: (Weakly) Reprogram...?
Marcus seems to consider this for a split second, but ultimately decides against it.
MARCUS: I don’t need to change myself for you. I can be whoever I want while I’m with Giselle. She doesn’t lie to me.
DOUGLAS: (Hopefully) Come on, Marcus, it’s me! Your dad! Let’s fix this, come on... If you- If you come back with us, we can be a family, I promise. You just have to let us go!
As Douglas spoke, Marcus’s grip on Daniel weakens and he manages to stand up straight. Marcus’s hardened expressions falters and their lip trembles for a moment, and for a clear few seconds, Marcus genuinely considers this option. But again, ultimately, decides against it and shoves Daniel down again.
MARCUS: No. My only mission is to destroy every one of your pathetic family, starting with him.
DOUGLAS: Marcus, please, I’m begging you! Start with Donnie!
DONALD: WHAT? (Struggles)
Fade to Black
Fade in
Marcus is still tossing Daniel about, but it’s clear there’s now some hesitance in their throws. Donald and Douglas are still struggling to escape, and Donald begins to show signs of frustration. He then pauses for a second, realizing something.
DONALD: Wait, Marcus is a bionic android. Daniel has power replication, if he could just-
DOUGLAS: We can’t- We can’t kill Marcus, again. They have emotional capabilities, if we could just appeal to their senses-
DONALD: (Sarcastically) Yeah, let’s convince your evil android son to change sides when they hate you. Great plan.
DOUGLAS: Shut up! I can do this!
Marcus has bent Daniel’s arm behind him, with it close to being dislocated.
DOUGLAS: Marcus!
Marcus rolls their eyes in response, but still halts. They release their grip on Daniel slightly, relieving the pain just a bit.
DOUGLAS: Daniel has nothing to do with this, alright? I betrayed you, I was the one who- who ruined your life. I’m sorry.
Marcus clearly wasn’t expecting that, and much like earlier, Marcus’s grip on Daniel all but completely loosens up. Their angered expression falters yet again and they seem to be fully effected by Douglas’s words.
MARCUS: (Somewhat bitter) You’re... You’re sorry...?
DOUGLAS: Yes. I’m sorry I left you behind, alright? I’m sorry I never treated you like my son. But you have to know, Giselle’s no better than me. She doesn’t care about you, she’s never seen her androids as more than weapons.
MARCUS: (Angry) Why should I ever believe you? How would I ever trust what you say again?
DOUGLAS: (Desperate) Please, Marcus. Please just trust me. If you keep working with Giselle, the others are going to kill you. I don’t want you to get hurt again. I can’t lose you again.
Marcus seems to think over this, and in a moment of hesitation, releases their grip on Daniel, who almost collapses and runs to Douglas’s side. Marcus’s expression falters between angry and scared, before landing on dejected.
MARCUS: If you- If you lie to me again...
Marcus’s voice is broken. Their voice cracks and stumbles through their speech.
DOUGLAS: I’m not! I’m not lying! Just release us, okay?
Marcus hesitates again, and slowly makes a move to untie Donald and Douglas, however...
LEO: Hey! Eyebrows!
Leo runs in and prepares an energy ball, and on instinct, Marcus does as well.
DOUGLAS: Ah, shit.
LEO: I have been waiting for a fight since that stupid concert.
MARCUS: Funny, I feel the same way.
Marcus redirects their anger on Douglas, to Leo, and fires an energy blast at him. Leo quickly ducks and throws his own, missing Marcus by a hair width and almost hitting Douglas and Donald.
DONALD: Leo!
LEO: Sorry!
Leo runs around the room, circling Marcus, who has completely forgotten about untying the brothers. They continue to launch attacks at each other, both of them managing to dodge the other’s, but it’s clear that Leo is getting slightly winded from the constant running. Marcus almost fires a laser at Leo, but stops midway to throw another energy ball.
As they fight, Donald and Douglas take it in.
DONALD: Uh, thought you got Marcus on our side.
DOUGLAS: Yeah, yeah, but I’ve always wanted to see Leo and Marcus fight. I had bets with Krane back in the day.
DONALD: Seriously? ... (Curiously) How much?
DOUGLAS: Well, when only Marcus was bionic, I put $500, but now... I’m thinking $700 on Leo.
DONALD: Hey, I’ll take it.
DANIEL: Dad! Uncle! Seriously!
DOUGLAS: Alright, alright! Fine, I’ll stop it.
Leo jumps on top of a table, knocking down android parts, charging up a large ball as Marcus is getting their energy back.
LEO: End of the line, freaky!
DOUGLAS: Both of you, shut up and stop!
LEO: What? Why?
DOUGLAS: Marcus is on our side! I lead them back to our side!
LEO: Okay. (Pause) Can I still blow them up?
DOUGLAS: No! Obviously not?!
LEO: (Exasperated) Ugh! Fine!
Leo releases the energy ball into a nearby wall, and steps down off the table, all while huffing in an annoyed way.
LEO: The one time it would’ve been acceptable to kill you. Come on.
MARCUS: (Sarcastically) Yeah, sorry you didn’t get to explode me.
LEO: (Mumbling) You better be sorry...
MARCUS: I could literally crush you with my bare hands--
DOUGLAS: (Exhausted) Stop arguing! Untie us already, please!
DONALD: Well, at least they’re already fighting like brothers.
LEO & MARCUS: Brothers?
LEO: Nope. Nada. Never happening.
MARCUS: I don’t even want to be in the same room as you.
LEO: Feeling’s mutual.
Leo and Marcus both untie Donald and Douglas. Marcus, still not over the fight, glares at Leo slightly.
MARCUS: You know, I could’ve lasered you in half during the fight. You’d be dead right now if I wasn’t helping you.
LEO: Annnd, why did I need to know that? Plus, if I died, Adam would turn you into a toaster in like three seconds flat.
DONALD: Very much true.
MARCUS: (Rolls eyes) Whatever.
As Douglas is getting used to moving around normally, Adam, Bree, and Chase run in through the main doors. The second they see Marcus near Leo, their sibling instincts kick in.
CHASE: Marcus!
MARCUS: Chase?
Douglas, already sensing the animosity, interjects immediately.
DOUGLAS: Our side! Marcus is on our side! No fighting!
BREE: Aw, I was really looking forward to kicking your ass.
LEO: Don’t worry, I did and it was very satisfactory.
MARCUS: You didn’t “kick my ass”, neither of us won. Dad stopped us from killing each other.
LEO: Shut up, you were recharging, I had you.
MARCUS: Again, I could’ve lasered you in the face. You were not winning. I could’ve used my levitation, speed, strength, intelligence--
LEO: I was winning! Shut it! I was beating you!
As Leo and Marcus continue to bicker between them both, Adam picks Daniel up and carries him, as the boy seemed to have trouble standing.
DANIEL: Thanks, Adam.
ADAM: Hey, no problem! (Smiles)
Chase seems happy for a moment, but his face turns to a more grave expression.
CHASE: Mr. Davenport, Giselle she--
ADAM: She’s dead.
CHASE: Yeah that, but also--
DOUGLAS: GISELLE DIED?!
Marcus immediately stops arguing with Leo and faces the others.
MARCUS: She’s- She’s dead...?
BREE: Yep. Killed herself. Between us, making a whip that cuts through anything is not the smartest weapon choice, honestly.
While the others speak with a nonchalant tone, Marcus is clearly shaken up by the fact that Giselle is gone. Any sort of rage or fire is snuffed out and they go quiet.
CHASE: Okay, yes, she’s dead, but also! She destroyed our chips, fully. We aren’t bionic anymore.
DONALD: You could’ve lead with that!
CHASE: (Angrily) I was, but whatever!
DONALD: It’s- This is fine! The students can be fixed back at the Academy. We should go back to Mission creek to fix up you three.
ADAM: Woo! Home time!
BREE: Oh yay! We can see Tasha!
CHASE: Probably not the main thing to focus on--
BREE: Shut up, we know you’re also excited to see her.
CHASE: (Giggles) Okay, yeah.
The Team leaves the lab, pointedly not going down the hall with Giselle’s corpse. Everyone but Douglas, Leo and Marcus leave.
DOUGLAS: Marcus, you coming?
MARCUS: She’s... gone. Forever.
LEO: Oh no, how much parental issues did you give Marcus?
DOUGLAS: (Offended) Hey!
Leo walks up to Marcus, making sure to keep at least half a meters distance.
LEO: Listen. Maybe this’ll be hard to hear, but she sucked, way more than Douglas probably. And that is a feat. Douglas is a pretty shitty guy, but he is getting better. Probably. I don’t think he’s committed a felony in over a year.
DOUGLAS: 4 months.
LEO: You aren’t helping.
He sighs, struggling to find a conclusion that will make Marcus leave with them.
LEO: Listen, creepy- Right, trying to help you - Marcus. I’m 100% sure if you were in her position, she would definitely ditch you. No doubt about it. You don’t need to feel guilty over someone that was a massive jackass and loser. Like, if Douglas got hurt, you don’t need to feel sorry, because he was shitty to you!
DOUGLAS: Okay, well--
LEO: (To Douglas) Shut up, I’m talking. (To Marcus) Come back to mission creek. With, I can’t believe I’m going to say this, With your family.
While Leo didn’t move closer to Marcus, their saddened expression softens, and in a moment of forgetfulness, Marcus almost hugs Leo, but stops themselves halfway through.
LEO: Did you- You almost hugged me!
MARCUS: (Embarrassed) No I didn’t. You’re seeing things.
LEO: Hah! You were trying to hug me!
MARCUS: Stop it!
Marcus and Leo both walk out, with Leo still taunting them. Outside the main room, Leo can be heard saying:
LEO: You still up for an almost-death match?
MARCUS: Yeah sure, whatever. If you’ll saying I tried to hug you.
LEO: Never stopping.
Douglas takes a quick glance around, then leaves as well, grabbing a few of Giselle’s folders marked ‘bionic chips.’
