Have you ever wondered why in modern video games, you never see the same tree twice? It's thanks to L-systems, named after Hungarian botanist Aristid Lindenmayer. L-systems are a very simple recipe for making branching structures that look like real plants, with different tweaks to parameters and a dash of randomness added in to bring to life that natural chaos we all know and love 🌳 Why do real plants follow this pattern? It has to do with the physics of how branches break off, how water moves through the structure, and also maximizing the amount of sunlight that can be absorbed by all the leaves 🌞

i am kind of cheating with this procjam project since i already did the "procedural" part long ago (i have been working on this l-system iterator for uh years. not constantly.) and this is basically just an excuse to try doing more modern opengl 3 stuff / webgl2 stuff. i'm currently reading tutorials about babbys first instanced geometry, since, previously i have not been instancing anything i have just been drawing big buffers full of duplicated elements. so it's more a rendering exercise than a procedural one
still it is neat to do. kind of looking forward to trying out opengl 4 stuff in haskell now. i mean, i'll get there eventually. in the mean time: lsystems

so i'm trying to translate the lsystem turtle actions into 3d, right? so just slap down a rectangular prism for each line, sure, sure. except some of the faces aren't rendering? and the depth testing seems all messed up? and my code to align a prism along an arbitrary 3d line isn't correct. the other problems could be b/c of any number of issues, so i'm in a situation where there are at least 3-4 rendering problems from probably-different sources and it's kind of a nightmare. i just want to draw some sticks.
