jing yuan does not show the dumbfoundment he feels as he looks at this woman who seems so ready to abide by laws she might as very well know little to nothing about. here she is after a nasty battle, healing one of the knights under his command with nothing but goodwill, and yet she dares to phantom that she would be regarded with disdain for a power she might have not had a say in receiving. the aeons are fickle, unpredictable in their actions, and he would find himself unable to shame someone for a path bestowed upon them without their say so. he would be hypocritical even, as he is one who follows the path of the hunt and yet he threads the stride of erudition, gazed upon by the aeon nous. no, one should not be judged by the gaze received by the aeons.

"continue as you are," jing yuan says, agreeing with a nod that his knight requires immediate attention. he will not deprive the knight of what the woman gladly offers. "it appears that the xianzhou luofu has built a rather concerning reputation if you believe that we will punish you for using powers under the gaze of the abundance. true as it may be that the luofu is on the path to eradicate the abundance, it is also important to know what our ire stems from. many of us here on the luofu are long life species, and we loathe the immortality that the abundance seeks to spread. it has caused us grief beyond the limits of what a human lifespan should contain, a war that has spanned hundreds of years just to rid the abominations. still, to this day, are we subject to being struck with mara."

jing yuan cannot help but wonder how much this woman knows of the luofu, of their vast history and their many plights. today, the luofu is one of peace and prosperity, and the many visitors who step afoot the ship all come from many differing paths. "despite that all, we do not persecute those who have been gazed upon by yaoshi. take lady bailu for example, the young elder of the vidyadhara, who also threads the path of abundance while being revered and well sheltered by her people. she is a trustworthy medic upon the luofu, and many of my knights owe a debt of gratitude towards her. there are many others as well on the luofu who have been gazed at by yaoshi and continue to serve as a healer on this vast ship."

he crouches before her and shows her a gentle smile as he takes in the knight who is being tended to with great care, already showing great signs of recovery. she beholds a skill that many would envy, seeking to garner for themselves. even as the knight's commander, general of the cloud knights, he would have merely sent this lone knight to be healed elsewhere. "you need not worry, as you are a kind person merely ridding someone of their pain. to heal is not a crime. i, nor would anyone on this ship, seek to wrap chains around you. should you seek the path of immortality, however, then that would be a different matter."

MYA & OAK CASKET.

Mya knows that Oak Casket deals with a large number of different people from Syndicate or East Side, which means she can have more access to information if she brings the correct payment to Oak. Sadly, Oak finds it rather amusing to give Mya more vague explanations as to what can be offered as payment. When Mya confronted the undertaker about such bullshit, she only smiled softly and said that the fire of hers can only destroy, thus asking for something specific can lead to her burning the pay instead of bringing it to her if she really does ask this. This, as you understand, is another vague and confusing explanation which caused these two to stop working together for a bit until Mya received a letter from Oak Casket stating that she will stop teasing her and will provide a better explanation to her prices.

ZELIMIR & OAK CASKET.

Zelimir's stays over at Oak Casket's cell even when she's not there because once she was gone from her room for hours upon hours and no one could find her. All because Langley wished to get any and all information from the Listener without Zelimir's approval or even telling him. Upon her return, Zelimir noticed that Oak was putting on her gloves back to hide away disappearing wounds from interrogation. After that, he started to spend even more time with the woman to spite others but also, perhaps, out of worry. Oak Casket herself remains rather calm about Langley's 'methods' of gaining information since her ability to heal herself allows her to avoid dying. Zelimir learned more about her abilities after that and the undertaker herself decided to keep him closer to herself because - as she put it - he was warm and his presence was comforting. For him to wait for her in her room? It gave her a strange desire to... return.

PARMA & OAK CASKET.

Parma's presence in Syndicate is known to her through the voices she hears, but it's also something she uses to her advantage. It's fun to imagine that Oak Casket and Parma worked partially together at some point with weapons right under the Syndicate's nose. It's written in Oak Casket's profile that she got certain 'interesting' goods to which she answered she got it herself, so perhaps there is could be a certain business exchange between Parma and Oak Casket aside from their usual tea time together. They are there for business because Oak Casket - unlike all Sinners we've met so far - has one of the most distant view on the conflict of the living world, which includes Parma's influence.

Earl plays a careful, cautious role as he recovers within the confines of the MBCC. Those sinners of Syndicate at least know of him by name if not by being a witness to Legion’s power and presence on the field. He may no longer possess the same physical freedom he once had, brute force traded for the fox’s cleverness, he often still appeared on the field – the ground of the frontlines traded for wings in the sky as the Legion’s strategist. And even physically he was still far deadlier than people expected from him. In front of the other sinners, Earl is very careful to keep his presentation to what it should be and to what would be expected of the Legion Advisor.

But today he might have pushed himself too far for too long. He slumps against the wall of the room after the last sinner has left the empty dining hall, pale and sweating with the effort it has taken to keep up that image. He dislikes letting anything other than that show around anyone. ( It was the same for anyone, but especially around Horo when she’s already shed tears by his side for a second time, a guilt that lingers in his mouth. )

His eyes flick upwards when he hears the doors hiss open, his dark gaze warily meeting Ariel’s when she steps into the room. The Legion’s advisor is polite ; but he never gives the impression of being trusting. He’s always alert and on guard, like the fox that all the hunters of the village dream to catch but never can. Even in pain and exhausted, his eyes are focused while he watches her enter into the room. It would have been the same if it had been nearly any other person.

“ I’ll be fine. “ He says before anything can be asked. Not that he was fine, but that he would be. Eventually. It was a small nuance of language that most people would completely miss without realizing it. He might be familiar with her presence along with much of the medical staff considering the near constant care by the medical staff when he’d been rushed in ( or so he had both pieced together and heard ) , but it was recognition, not trust. “ Just pushed the limits some. “ Some, as if he’s not clenching his jaw in silent agony or putting more of his weight on the wall than his leg.

perhaps ariel looks into her actions too deeply. perhaps she tries to see sense in places where there is none.

nox kills to put people, tragic and pained, out of their misery. nothing more, nothing less. absorbs their souls, energy, entire being because it is a thing that happens. one does not ask a dog why it barks, nor a kitten for mewling. it is nature / instinct. curious, her head slowly tilts at the other woman, lips parting and the sounds of departed souls speak before she does. " i do not understand your question, " honest and bland, " what do you mean? "

boothill is grinning before he knows it, leaning down so that ariel may place the flower crown on his head. metal fingers come up to adjust the crown to ensure that it stays steady on his head as he straightens once more. a crown beautiful as this and presented to him should be cherished, and he finds that that he wants to hold onto the flowers so long as the flowers stay strong and beaming with life, a reminder to the days where he once walked through a field of flowers as the tiny little lifeform at his feet grabbed and ogled at all of the life blooming around them, a reminder of the lushious planet his home had once been.

such wonderful memories resurface to the forefront of his mind, all with the gentle touch of this woman in front of him, and she doesn't even know it. "if such a gorgeous little lady such as yerself tells little ol' me that i'm gorgeous, then i'm afraid i've got no choice but to believe you." boothill smiles with all teeth for the camera, head tilted down to show off the flower crown that has been made for him and placed on his head. a small gift that boothill already loves immensely. "well now, you ain't gonna hold off on showing me how the picture looks, aren't ya? i want to see how it turned out."

he slinks around to stand next to ariel and leans down to look at the screen, and sure enough, that's him! him with a big grin on his face that shows off his pointy teeth, contrasted so deeply with the crown placed gently on his head filled with flowers and vines that soften his appearance that much more. boothill has never meant to look terrifying, and here in this picture, he looks just as soft as he remembers himself being so many years ago. by the aeons, it has been so long ago that he fears he may end up forgetting pieces of the person he once was.

"well now, i can say for certain that you weren't lyin! the flowers make my eyes stand out just that much more!" boothill laughs and ends up placing his hat on ariel. the hat a little too big for her, but it holds steady enough to stay on top of her head. he finds that it fits her quite well. "heh, you would make for a great cowgirl with how much that hat suits you. why don't we take another picture, with the both of us this time."

Heroes and martyrs will always leave regrets behind, stricken by the understanding how they did not live their lives as they wanted to. Their grief, their sadness, their desperation. They all will end up with those wishes of fulfilled regrets, they'd beg for success and they'd beg for something to be changed. Their wishfulness would be born from helplessness, them looking back at how they lived and understanding that they did not [live] but [served] to those morals without making themselves truly happy. Repressed desires, repressed wishes, repressed hopes for freedom. Everything at the same time, everything at the last moment when they face death and lose their angelic and saintly behavior, wishing that they've done something more, something else, something different just for themselves. One time.

Will Ariel be the same? Oak Casket thinks she will be. Her past name is long thrown away and now she lives for herself as much as making sure that the dead have their wishes heard. It was her mother's last desire, it was her brother's whispered wish that made her move forward with it. Despite carrying the wish of someone important to her, the Sinner of Death remains unbothered by the words spoken from the other, much younger lady. Oak remains unapproachable, the one who makes other Sinners feel a shiver run down their spine because they do not wish to look at her, speak with her, and hear her words. Despite her voice being like a grim lullaby, haunting and ethereal in a way Death is.

It seems Ariel thinks her words are said to harm her, to hurt her, to make her doubt her faith and her wishes to go forward. But Ariel will not be able to help Corruptors, she will not be able to become salvation of all Syndicate, she will not be able to do everything alone. Thus, her mission is one without an end and without a presence of person named 'Ariel' only a presence of a title of a 'saintess' that she seems to uphold.

Oak Casket's gaze is hollow, she looks at Ariel without any judgement or any malice as she simply studies the girl (by Oak's words) in front of her. People like her are like candle lights, burning themselves out until their wax (faith/life) runs out and their fire no longer can burn. A pathetic sight, a sight that will never change based on everything Oak has seen. Her own bias plays a big role from how many voices and whispers of similar people she heard. But Ariel isn't the only one who wants to [help] those people. Cure Mania as Dr. Iron said... Cure Corruptors as Anne wished, didn't she? SALVA wanted the same thing as Ariel does, but they use different approaches. But they all will melt away like candles, burning themselves far and beyond. The candles in the Romanesque Hall is a reminder of how fast life passes by and how easily it can be snuffed out.

"For who are you bleeding, saintess?" Oak Casket asks, not caring about the words spoken prior. Ariel may think her words are spoken as a way to slash and cut, a stab to make her faithful body bleed light and foolish, stubborn wish to bring salvation. However, salvation of Syndicate will only be possible when it perish and will be brought anew. Death is peace, salvation from this life of hardships, cruelty, and merciless destruction through Mania and corruption. So what will be Ariel's wish when she dies? Will she regret not living for herself? "What self-fulfilling prophecy do you wish to achieve? My words are nothing but questions to guess what regrets you will carry with yourself beyond. It will be I to whom you will return, pleading to fulfill one last wish."

Only Chief forced her to step into the world of the living. Only that existence who is so stubborn, foolish, and reckless but monstrous and beastly in their nature. A beautiful yet grotesque picture that will lead towards futures where maybe a dead person will give her more stories, more secrets, more happiness instead of regrets and cries. Ariel is not that person in the eyes of the one who's heard too much.

"Heroes leave with regrets when helplessness strikes them. So tell me, what regret do you carry within yourself before it's too late? As I do not hear the voices of the dead until we are out on the battlefield," the woman extends her hand to the other, adopting a soft and inviting smile (yet still so cold) as if beckoning the saintess to step closer and confess her sins, the innermost desires. "I will listen to your secrets and whispers if you so wish to confess them."

Fingers curl into the fabric of her dress for a moment, then they lift and fold together, clutched together like she's praying or pleading. ( She is doing neither ; she needs no god nor is she so weak to need help. Not anymore. ) After a moment she shakes her head, eyes downcast in a meek display.

" No... " Her voice is soft, and if there were other sinners here, then surely her voice would have been lost under the noise. But it's just them and a couple others on the other side of the room. " I don't want to bother anyone...People look to me for miracles. If they see I'm upset or sad, it will make their ailments worse. " Lamia breathes, soft and dainty, like bubbles in a clear current.

Really, she still things this would make for a good Thalamus society. Unfortunately, that meddlesome chief was too nosy. They were still wrong as far as she was concerned. The child had been an outlier - the parents predictable. Children were always outliers, they weren't shackled by societal pressures or had yet to see the ugly colors of the world. It's fine. She just had to be patient. She'd waited years to kill that old fart of the previous one. All it would take is one slip up.

Best to get on people's good sides till then.

" It's okay. Really. " Lamia lifts her head slightly, nervously meeting Ariel's eyes with a small smile. " I think I'm just having a bit of a hard time adjusting is all. It's nothing like what i'm familiar with. I just...want to help people..." Her bottom lip trembles slightly, as if she's fighting back a wave of emotion. " But I don't know how to do that here. I don't...know what to do. "

What type of villain are you?

No Moral Compass: You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

#[ et cetera. ] seems i came at a bad time. / no no; i think you couldn't have timed it better. 23:47:15. very punctual; kafka.#[ i always worry about these because even when they're accurate; there's always some little tidbits that firmly contradict the rest. ]#[ but this was pretty accurate all the way through apart from some approaches like 'think good/evil is a load of bull' because it's more..#[ complicated than that obviously. but in a general superficial gist-- yeah. that's it. ]#[ thing is-- she truly does play into the concept of that it doesn't matter to her how people perceive her or what they think she's like. ]#[ she's far past that. noble intentions for those she does care about or whether it's for selfish gains-- it simply doesn't matter. ]#[ if anything; having negative thoughts about her only means she's on your mind. it means you're unnerved but more importantly... ]#[ it means you remember her. it means she's crossed your mind. to someone like kafka-- that's only a gain. ]#[ the smiles she gave himeko and march 7th were genuine. but they only are for the extent that they are part of a game. ]#[ that's why they matter because she allows them to matter. she invites it. but beyond the games; she spares them no thought. ]#[ none whatsoever. ]#[ it's the same with something like a bounty-- it plays into this arrogance that she's perfectly aware that she has. ]#[ but ultimately yep-- what matters is the goal that she seeks and then throughout that journey... ]#[ the goals of those who she might become close to will come to matter as well. the stellaron hunters for example. ]#[ but even there-- some more than others. ]

he doesn't think about these things, not really. why bother? what difference would it make if he did? but, the way she presents the idea now is a little fun.
