We give Belos way too much credit for feeling bad about his dead brother and Grimwalkers because like. He’s a racist white guy who’s murdered a culture and damaged its land across centuries but only feels guilt for his white brother and clones. He doesn’t hallucinate any witch or demon in FtF. He never got close to any of them sure, but that’s because of his racism which just further proves the point.
What this means is that for all his ‘guilt’, Belos doesn’t think his actual motives and goals as a witch hunter are wrong, just that human (adjacent) white guys shouldn’t be hurt in the process, but if they need to be they will. There’s the external setup for Belos to maybe change because of that remorse, but the internal setup that he won’t because he doesn’t even consider what the actual crux of the issue was, that being who he killed Caleb for fraternizing with, who Caleb died to protect, who has been brutalized far more than the Grimwalkers ever have been. Mind you, Belos is still killing the Grimwalkers because he doesn’t really regret it, he’ll keep doing it because abusers are paradoxical like that. The ghosts just reinforce what’s wrong with him, instead of suggesting otherwise.
I think those fics and fanart of Belos being ganged up on in the afterlife by the Grimwalkers are missing the point, to Belos it would validate his racism by saying the only people whose suffering mattered, who deserve revenge, are the white guys he wasn’t explicitly targeting. I think a good take on the Belos suffering in the afterlife trope would have him be attacked by all the witches and demons and palismen he brutalized, without a single Grimwalker nor Caleb in sight.
As you can imagine, this is another reason why Eda and co. killing Belos works; Because once again he’s focused on Luz, whose framing parallels Caleb’s ghost from FtF, and talking about how only humans matter and Belos deserves to be spared for being human. Only for the witches and demons who were the actual emotional core of the issue that Caleb died for (one of whom is the descendant of the child he saved, not that Caleb factors to her motives because it’s not about Caleb) to step in and reiterate, Nah their suffering and anger is just as important.
People set up Belos’ fratricide and murdered nephews as the worst thing he’s ever done because they also think the white boys’ suffering is more important but tbh? It pales in comparison to the irreversible damage he committed to the Boiling Isles’ environment, its culture and history, its thousands of people as a whole, etc. The Titan is dead and its arm displaced because of him. To quote Castlevania and what a revenge-seeking anti hero was told before encountering real evil, “There are worse things than betrayal.”

huh. if i had a nickel for every time a fandom hyperfixation had some old creep that has:
delusions of grandeur
an obsession with molding the only other(s) like him into mini-hims (and discarding them if they prove unmoldable)
cloning a guy he is convinced Should™ be on his side (but is not above murdering the OG) for a hobby
murdering the clones he made for a hobby
too much power at his disposal (most definitely acquired through unsavory means)
seriously who put these fruit loops in power over the masses
a portal to another dimension in their secret lab
shapeshifting abilities
canonically gotten smacked flat by something or someone unfathomably dangerous
dark twists to the story revealed regarding or during a time travel episode
Control Issues™
mad science
"Friend(s)" On The Other Side™
a holier-than-thou accent
manipulative tendencies up the wazoo
little to no regard for anyone but himself
a secondary form with inhuman speed, strength, etc
a Distinguished Gray Ponytail
then i would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
in conclusion luz should dress up as danny phantom and hunter should be dani for their next hallowe-

Lunter/Caleb x Evelyn thoughts:
Evelyn/Luz to Caleb/Hunter: Insecure but I'm working with it. Many things that I could get rid of. Ain't about to give it up. I made a few mistakes, I regret it nightly. I broke a couple hearts that I wear on my sleeve. My momma always said girl, you're trouble and. And now I wonder, could you fall for a woman like me. And every time we touch, boy you make me feel weak. I can tell you're shy and I think you're so sweet. Spending every night under covers and, still I wonder, could you fall for a woman like me(A woman)Woman like me, like a woman like me La-la-la woman like me, like a woman like me La-la-la woman like, like a woman like me La-la-la woman like me, like a woman like me.

Rewatching TOH Season 1 with hindsight...
Rewatching the first season of Owl House with online friends made me realize something. It's pretty much the regular human world just with more fantastical elements, particular with Hexside. Sure it's more authoritarian, but it felt like a world that was independently founded by witch culture, including the whole Coven system.
Belos at first fits into the world perfectly, back when he was considered an actual witch. Getting visions from the Titan, using them to justify his rule, and then planning on mass conversion and supposedly invading the Human Realm in the name of witch imperialism. He's a generic cult leader but he fits well with the theme.
Until you incorporate Philip Wittebane into the equation. Philip Wittebane is a very different character. He is not a cult leader. He is a zealous witch hunter driven by revenge. Revenge against all witches. Such a character would not have come up with such an elaborate plan to kill all the witches with a convoluted plot that takes 400 years to complete, requires him to pretend to be a witch, and requires the witches to blindly trust him. He would have simply amass an army of loyal soldiers that obey him to massacre the witches. And these soldiers would have been his fellow witch hunters or clones of his witch hunters that share his hatred for witches. Genocidal hatred.
This is the paradox of Belos' character. He's far more interesting as Philip Wittebane in that you want to know more about his backstory and why he went from this adorable kid to a lunatic witch killer. But if you ignore that backstory and just focus Belos in terms of present day context, he's a confusing mess of a villain that gives off different, unintended messages.
He's a Puritan yet somehow is respectful of LGBT, blacks, and women in the Boiling Isles despite already forcing their society to convert to the Coven System. He hates all witches and loves humans, yet his entire scheme in Boiling Isles relies on a covoluted plan that would take centuries to complete (and requires him to dress up as a witch) rather than the simple "build the door portal" and rally the witch hunters to a genocidal war against witches. He's the reason why the Boiling Isles went from a utopia to a jackass place, yet it's not really different from the regular human world (and if anything, it's actually better) and thus, it feels more real than the "utopian" past.
Honestly, Belos and Philip should have been two separate characters on opposite sides, with Belos' rise to power being a response to Philip's fanatical attacks on witch societies. Imagine what kind of conflict and grey area would that be for the audience. Heck, what if Belos was actually Caleb and Caleb, in an attempt to defend witches from his brother, became sort of a Magneto tyrant who hates all of humanity and that's why he wants to invade the Human Realm.
And imagine how Luz has to resolve the conflict that cannot be easily resolved.

The Wittebane brothers struggled to fit in with their town, and both were offered a different society by the Demon Realm.
Tumblr media
And so was Luz.
Tumblr media
But while Caleb and Luz embraced the Demon Realm and the freedom it offered them, and they found a family for themselves,
Tumblr media
Philip rejected that freedom. But not only did he reject it, he took it away from Caleb too.
Tumblr media
And he almost took it away from Luz.
Tumblr media
He didn’t allow himself to enjoy the freedom the Boiling Isles offered, and he wouldn’t let them do it either. He didn’t allow himself to figure out his own identity and find a purpose in life beyond fulfilling his society’s expectations to a tee, and he wouldn’t let them either.
And no matter how firmly he believes in his own righteousness, all these years later, he’s still haunted by what he did to Caleb.
Tumblr media
As much as he’s convinced he’s right, it doesn’t take away the pain of killing his brother - his only friend and only family - with his own hands, and then going through an endless cycle of cloning him over and over again to try and create the idealized version of him he made up in his mind.
And all these years later, he’s still imitating what Caleb used to look like back in the Human Realm. He still wears his coat, and he grew his hair out to have it in a ponytail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He ruined his own life and defined himself around a single purpose he now desperately clings to, because he has nothing else left. He doesn’t have friends or a family because he destroyed that himself, and he doesn’t have a home either - the Human Realm he knew is long gone. All he can do now is either continue his work as a witch hunter, or die. He doesn’t know what else to do with himself, and it’s far too late for him to turn back, so he’s stuck in this prison he built for himself.
While Caleb died long ago, Luz made it out alive.
Tumblr media
She has a family. She has friends. She has a home. She has hopes and dreams, and she has something to do. She didn’t define herself around a single purpose, and she allowed herself to experiment. She refused to let society define her identity or her purpose for her, and she helped others break free as well - be it refusing to conform to societal norms, or standing up to or escaping from an abusive parent.
Philip chose conformity, while Caleb and Luz chose freedom. Caleb’s time in this world was cut short, but Luz continues to live on and fight for others to have freedom too.

The Truth - TOH Hunter x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Hunter tells Reader about the whole Grimmwalker thing
Warnings: possible spoilers for Hollow mind and Thanks to them
You can tell that something's wrong, that something's bothering him. He's been quieter than usual, distancing himself not only from you but everyone else. Well, everyone else except for Willow.
It's something you've feared for a while now. He's been getting closer to her, and you can't help but worry that your relationship is nearing its end.
You can't blame him. She's considerate, powerful, courageous, and so much more. She'd be perfect for him...
At this point, it seems inevitable. He's going to break up with you. At first, it hurt; well, it still hurts, but not nearly as much as it did in the beginning. You're trying to accept it. You love him. You'll always love him. You love him enough to let him go if it means he'll get the happiness he's always deserved.
"(Y/N)?" He asks you one evening, visibly nervous. "Can I talk to you outside?" You nod, faking your best smile. "Of course."
It's time.
You take a deep breath in an attempt to calm yourself before following him out of the door and onto the porch. You sit down next to him on the bottom step, anxiously fidgeting with your hands.
He takes a deep breath of his own, "You can do this, Hunter," he mumbles to himself. "There's something, umm..." He pauses, trying to find the right words, "I'm not—it's just–" he sighs, burying his head in his hands. "Titan, I knew this would be hard but I thought I was more prepared than this..."
I'm not in love with you anymore. You can imagine him saying it. It's probably what he wanted to say. You turn your head away from him, quickly wiping away the few tears that managed to escape your eyes.
"Are you going to break up with me,  Hunter?" You ask, sniffling.  "What?" He exclaims in shock, looking terrified as he turns to look at you. "N-No! Never! Why would you think that?" He blurts out, voice laden with fear and confusion.
"You—You're crying– Oh my titan," he gasps, moving to gently wipe away your tears. "Tell me what's wrong. Please! I need to fix whatever I did."
You sniffled again. "You didn't do anything wrong... I'm just being insecure..." He frowns, "You can tell me what's bothering you, you know that, right?" His hands move to cup your face, "You've always been there for me, and I'll always be here for you."
You lean into his touch. "Nothing makes me happier than knowing that you've made more friends," you explain, "But, something's been bothering you recently, and you've been distant. Willow seems to be the only one you want to be around anymore... I'm afraid you don't love me anymore because you've fallen for her."
You gently move Hunter's hands off your face, leaning away from him. "I love you so much. If you're happier with her than I want you to be with her, it's what you deserve."
Small amounts of tears welled up in his eyes, and he quickly wiped them away. "Willow is one of my best friends, but that's all she is. I don't want her. I want you. I've only been spending so much time with her because I had to tell you something important but I was afraid that you'd... sorta... Break up with me..."
You tilted your head slightly in confusion. "Willow was helping to reassure and prepare me to tell you," he elaborated. A mix of relief and concern flooded you.
"What did you want to tell me that had you so scared?" You questioned. He took a deep breath, "You can do this, Hunter..."
"Do you know what a Grimmwalker is?" He asks, looking away. You think for a moment. "I think I read about them in a book once. They're clones that come from a whole bunch of different ingredients. Bones of who they originated from and whatnot, if I recall correctly."
He nodded slowly, "I'm a Grimmwalker. When Luz and I got trapped in Belos's mind we found out. He created me, (Y/N). I don't even know who or what I am. I don't know if I'm human, a witch, or something entirely different. I... I don't even know if you'll still love me now that you know."
With tears streaming down his face he refused to look at you. "Hunter..." You whispered. "Hey... Look at me," you said softly, gently grabbing his face and turning him to look at you. "Why would I stop loving you? You didn't choose how you came into this world. It's not your fault."
You smile warmly, "I can't stop loving you. I don't care about who or what you may or may not be, all I care about is that you're you." He blushes lightly as you proceed to gently kiss his tears away.
"You aren't mad or anything because I'm a Grimmwalker?" He hesitantly asks. You shake your head, "No. Absolutely not." He smiles, "I love you." You grin, "Love you, too."

Ok wait BUT, we know it's possible to remotely enter someone's mind scape. So what if Luz let's Camilla and Vee run hunter off cause she doesn't remember him. So Hunter decides to (SOMEHOW) drag Darius into fixing her mind. Darius brings raine along, and it's like the worst version of them figuring out if she would have been an Evil Empress.
Hunter desperately trying to fix luz which would REQUIRE him to see all the grimwalker shit. Raine thinking they fucked up so bad to not see this all. Everyone is bitching with everyone else.
"Little prince are you all right?"
"I'm so good rn Darius. I'm a zombie clone but also luz Knows, and that means she remembers me, so everything is great hahahahaa"
But they fix it all, right? Hunter is having a breakdown, but they got all the memories in place.
And then Luz wakes up next to Vee, and she is freaking out!!!!! She sent HER BOY away!
hunter is like darius, if you don't help me, i'm going to find a way to do it myself. and her inner self probably won't be too fond of me, given what i saw. i don't know exactly what belos did to her, but she was scared of me, so i know he did SOMETHING. you KNOW she'd never be afraid of me
& darius, who has been dealing with the fact that hunter managed to sneak past all his security to go get himself killed by belos, is like for fuck's sake. you really will, won't you.
fine. Fine.
raine gets roped in because they're good with luz & hunter trusts them implicitly. so they're on official Keep The Inner Luz Calm duties.
also, luz's two-tiered mindscape.... she has all her (now incomplete/jumbled/confused) grimwalker memories on the surface. all her memories of when she pretended to be an unfeeling little tyrant to please belos. so even when they put the pieces back together, hunter is STILL like no. something's wrong. these can't be right, that's not.... that's not LUZ.
while darius is trying to be gentle about "that IS luz." except, yknow. darius doesn't have a gentle bone in his body. so he's just like welp. sucks to see her true self. she's probably better off left in the human realm, huh??
meanwhile raine is the one to be like no... this doesn't feel right to me either. this doesn't account for any of what i know about luz.
if and when the inner luz shows up, i think she'd solve this for them.... she can SEE that something is wrong with her memories, she's soot-stained with unhealing burn injuries and she keeps coughing and she needs Help. she'll take whatever help she can get. she'll lead them to the lower levels and the "real" luz memories. and everything down there is a blackened wasteland -- all her wild magic, all her childhood memories, all her love for hunter.
and that's worse for hunter than even fixing the grimwalker memories was. seeing just how devastated her mindscape is, just how damaged and in pain her inner self is....
and then yeah. luz wakes up healed in the real world & is immediately Frantic. more frantic than vee or camila have ever seen her. running out of the house, out into the street, not bothering to watch for cars. stumbling over her own feet. calling hunter's name. screaming at both vee And camila when they try to calm her down and get her to come inside.
ough. Ough.
babies....

I rewatched Owl House.
First season is so average, like they make it by a notebook
Lilith get off the hook too easily
Fucking body swap plot is annoying in anything but Gravity Falls and Adventure Time
Willow and Amity reconciliation is too quick
Titan Trappers are exist only to exist
Who the fuck put this magic door in Titan’s skull and then put Collector Dish there
How did witches have information to tell legends about the Collector?
When Amity and Hunter are cut off from they Evil Pumping Stations they are lost all personality
Belos is boring as fuck. His only character trait is that he is evil, which is laughable for the show that tell us people are complex. That’s why he only will be referred as Evil Dude
Odalia is so stupidly evil that it’s impossible to take seriously
Lumity is not developed further than “Girlfriends” and the only reason why Lunter could be better is because it’s just easier to develop
Luz and Evil Dude’s parallel starts and ends with the fact that they are humans
Evil Dude is an idiot
Collector could be named Plot Device
Raine is very meh. They only personality is that they are hero
Evil Dude is said to be the strongest witch ever, but he almost looses to five teenagers
What was the point of standing against coven system if in the end we have a squad from a fucking RPG game. Character form plants, character for illusions, character for abominations, character for teleportation
Evil Dude have as much super powers as the plot need
Characters have zero reaction of learning they arch enemy story
Evil Dude looses all small glimpses of being an actual character and become villain of the week
Absence of chemistry between Hunter and Willow can cause physical pain
For the Future is one of the most useless things created by a human being
Caleb Wittebane appears for reasons and never affects anything, so he will referred as Fan-service Background
Collector is an insult to God
I hate Collector
“One character hears half of what other character says and is offended by it, only for the audience learn that other character didn’t actually mean what first character thought they mean” plot line is a violation of Geneva Conventions
Evil Dude spending 98% percent of his screen time in finale as giant roaring green blob is a final shot from a shotgun in a head of his characterisation
Luz is Chosen One now. Message of the show is annihilated by Atomic Bomb
Titan is an asshole who assaulted a child because there was no one else to assault
There two villains. One looks like a child, have sparkles in his eyes, and flies and a star with happy face. Second is goopy skinny, rots in real time, have eyes in places that supposed to be without eyes, and he shrieks like an Alien. Who of the two is going to be redeemed?
The moment Evil Dude is dead Boiling Isles is an utopia. If you take this seriously, I don’t feel sad for you, I will laugh at you
Hunter becomes Caleb 2.0, and that’s why you dig up in the fact that you are a clone, my boy. You never know if your actions are actually yours
Evil Dude’s death better than Toffee’s only because this time main antagonist dies by the end of the series
The fact that Owl House doesn’t redeem it’s main antagonist like Steven Universe or have a better ending than SVTFOE is not an argument
Fuck Collector
I could write what I liked but it would be boring

TOH: The Problem With Waffles
So someone who has lost someone close to them takes palistrom wood and starts carving. They make them in the image of that which they have lost, imparting upon them a desire for them to be what they once were. Alongside this, their new form allows them to also act as their will made manifest upon the world as both lackey, partner, family and pet. Their life is only meaningful until thrown away, abandoned or ended by that which made them.
Am I talking about Hunter being made by Belos or Hunter making Waffles?
Waffles and Hunter actually have a lot in common, such as how as an orphan Philip likely saw his brother as the man who gave him a chance at life after his parents died, just like Flapjack explicitly did for Hunter when Hunter was going to die. A core element of the problem though is actually with how lame the Grimmwalkers are and the lack of magical materials in the Isles. Rather than a complex set of reagents for witch's brew, we get maybe a handful of items and the big two are Titan's Blood... And Palistrom.
Because of this, it's kind of easy to look at Grimmwalkers as advanced Palismen. Hell, it's actually weird that Hunter CAN'T use magic. Palismen have innate magic just by being made by Palistrom wood. Luz proves that they can do magic on their own since she uses Owlbert to activate glyphs from far away, something she cannot do herself. It's implied as part of why witches are commonly stronger with their staffs than without (not that that ever comes into play at any time). Meanwhile, Hunter has multiple magical components, at least one of which is INCREDIBLY powerful and far rarer than Palistrom wood which would make one assume they're stronger because one of the only ingredients we know of for Grimmwalkers is a Galdorstone. So... Why can't he cast magic? Because he doesn't have a bile sac? Does that mean every Palisman actually gets split in half during carving so you can carve out its tiny organs before sealing it back together without any sign of this crack? Because I REALLY doubt it.
Add to that the fact that Palismen are regularly abandoned by their witches for SOME FUCKING REASON (I think the Bat Queen in S1 should have claimed that witches "...No longer are able to care for them" to imply they died because otherwise, what the fuck?) and most seem perfectly without a Palisman and they don't seem all that different from how Belos treats Hunter. Narratively and functionally the two are just treated the same. One simply takes on a more human form since Palismen are PLENTY sentient and able to talk with others.
It makes how Hunter's arc ends, as a clone of Caleb by how many people read it, including myself, suck even harder. He's not just taking cues from the man he was made to look like after all. By chasing a lost loved one like this instead of letting go and looking to the future, he also copies Belos.
And that is the exact opposite of ANYTHING his arc should imply.

FINALLY. THE REASON WHY I MADE THIS SIDE BLOG. HER.
Tumblr media
Been having a TON of brainrot from TOH again and my old mlp next gen habits kicked in sooooo... yeag
More ab her under the cut bc WOOOO BOY i have SO MANY THOUGHTS ON HER
So! I think I should begin with just the fact that she is, for lack of a better term, a anomaly. Grimwalkers have never been recorded to reproduce- on top of her being a weird mixture of not really human and not really witch... Uncanny valley for both species yk?
Hunter and Luz were in their mid-20s when Luz got pregnant with Lunala,, which was a shock for both. More Hunter than Luz lmao she was cruising. At the time the two had just started up a cultural exchange of sorts with the human realm so on top of the stress of new baby... yeah it was a time.. Doesn't help that halfway through Luz's body was like- smth,, smth aint right and so while not on bedrest, she did have to tone down her activities and now, with medicine advancing, many theorize that the left over Titan magic in her is the only reason she survived.
Then out popped Lunala! Lil freak of a girl. Hunter cussed out the fact hes a clone bc bby girl gots her wack goofy ahh cousin(?)s blue eyes- Phillips last F u lol- the yellow from Mama only started coming out when she turned 4-ish. On top of that, she got the staple four digits with pawpads all Grimwalkers have and EXTREMELY horrible equilibrium and thermoregulating ability. She is bundled up 24/7 and cant walk without her cane. Messed up gal.
Due to the irregularities of magic during her formation her bile sac cannot filter magic properly- some days she'll be equal to a fully grown witch and others she'll be bedbound due to her own bile sac essentially leaking the excess out of her when a usual one would get rid of the "used up" magic via normal ways- another reason why she uses her cane. On top of this, the excess magic (if she hasn't used any in a while) starts to drip out of her mouth, being almost acidic. A fine line she has to walk between literally spewing acid and being poisoned by her own body. She survives tho! Also her teeth too big for her gotdamn mouth,, queen of braces
BUT OH HO HO. THIS DOES NOT STOP HER FROM BEING A LIL CREECHER. A GOOFBALL. A MENACE. She looks /TERRIFYING/ when happy/scheming but genuinely means well- taking her Mama's words to heart- "It becomes bullying when no one but yourself is having fun" and essentially tries to make others laugh/be in a good mood,, unfortunately a lot of people find her to be unnerving- only really finding a few good friends in Ophelia- Willow and Amity's adopted daughter-, King, Collector, and a school friend Ricardo- a human on the Boiling Isles via the cultural exchange program.
Outside of other's around her age, she gets along with her parents and family wonderfully! Lunala can be very quiet when she wants too and has found a particular gift for essentially reading people and being able to help them- magical therapist if you will. On top of exploring the human realm with her Auntie Vee (Who has become a cross country explorer and nature conservationist), she has a hell of a time helping her Dad practice for his games or his most recent pailsman carving, or helping her Mama document the entirety of the Boiling Isles or be a proof reader for her Mama's books. Fun stuff!
Her pailsman- Manny- is named after Luz's dad, after seeing pictures her Abuela left out. Manny and Lunala are two peas in a pod- with both being seen as unnerving. On top of that, Manny being a King Cobra gives a slight hint to Lunala's... less than spectacular anger. She doesn't get angry often but when she does her bile sac works overtime with the amount of adrenaline she gets from her anger, which, of course, leads to the acidic overspill and very... unsightly view.
As she gets older, and learns to control her anger more, she'll become a terrifying politician both in the Boiling Isles and in the human realm and hobbyist child psychologist.
ANYWAY ITS MIDNIGHT AND I GOTS SCHOOL BYE HOPW YALL ENJOY THIS RANT

Sequel to this
For people who don't know Pokémon, Mewtwo isn't a naturally occurring pokémon, he's a clone! He was created from another pokémon's dna to be used as a weapon---I think Hunter and Vee would would relate.
[image ID: a 3 page comic depicting the hexsquad plus Luz's hatched palisman, the egg-bodied pokémon Togepi. Luz holds Togepi in her arms and addresses her friends saying, "Guys, I want you all to meet my palisman! Togepi! Amity, Willow, Hunter, and Vee all oo and aww over it while Gus asks, "Cool! Is it based on a human realm animal?" Luz answers, "Well, actually no. He's a pokémon!" The five friends stare at her blankly. Luz realizes her mistake and continues, "Oh right that doesn't mean anything to you. A pokémon is... Hmm... maybe it would be easier to just show you guys a few episodes. Oo and the movies!" Several hours later Pokémon The First Movie is on the tv screen at the part where the pokémon Mewtwo says, "I see now the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." Hunter and Vee are sobbing. Amity leans in to Luz to whisper, "Are they gonna be alright?" Luz says, "Maybe this was a bad idea.]

So, post-series headcanons on Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, and Hunter?
I'm mostly waiting on any creator/crew post-series Q&A interviews to really dive into major headcanons but here's a few off the top of my head that I have atm:
Luz: After finishing University (with flying colors), Luz became a writer/comic artist in the human realm and both a writer and explorer in the demon realm. With King's new glyphs, Luz got not only to see which old glyph combos still work but also test out new ones that she thought of in the 3+ years that she had before King figured out his Light glyph.
Amity: Due to taking over her dad's factory and working on both new abomi-ton inventions and exploring Amity got buff, her muscles are not as large as Willow's but Amity could dead-lift Warden Wraith's weight. Amity got to meet Mildred Featherwhyle at a human convention Luz took her to, Amity got all of her books signed and keeps them behind glass cases guarded by new abomi-tons she designed.
Willow: Willow is a coach for the new Hexside's Flyer Derby team and really likes helping the kids, she still plays with the original Emerald Entrails but as they have their own thing she's had to remake the team and will have her team skirmish against the Hexside team to help them get better. She helped Dell and Eda rebuild the Palistrom Woods with the help of the Plant Coven Artifact (before turning it over to the new Plant Coven Leader). While not the Plant Coven head now, rumor has it that many are considering suggesting her in a future Coven Head election.
Gus: He and Vee run the University of Wild Magic's Human/Witch Exchange Program, however it's less sending witchlings to human school and more an extended summer field trip (less likely to be hounded by authorities for kids not in school in summer as Luz and Vee points out early on), Gus and Vee help show witchlings around the human town of Gravesfield and teaching them about human things. He has yet to make peace with the Giraffes but he's getting close.
Hunter: After doing some digging into the history of Caleb he discovered that he's related to the Clawthornes, Eda tried to make a "little nephew" joke but Luz pointed out that since Hunter is a Grim Walker clone of Caleb that he's actually Eda's Great Great Great (insert more) Grandpa. This new family connection brought him to Dell who taught him Palisman carving alongside Eda also helping. Hunter considers both Darius, Eberwolf and Camila as his parents, all of whom consider him as their kid.

continuation of comfort crowd & hold out!
Tumblr media
summary: after months of trying, the hexsquad make a daring try to get back to the demon realm.
a/n: okay um. the requests are going to be coming over the course of this week (no promises 🙏🏼) but. you will be seeing them soon!
wc: 5.2k
warning(s): possession, blood mention, (almost) dying, flapjack dying :(
You squeeze Hunter hand tightly as your. eyes droop and Luz’s mother opens the door, and gasps in shock to find six teens looking disheveled out in the rain, as Luz looks up at her.
“Hey, Mom.” She shrugs softly, and starts tearing up. “I'm back.”
Camila and Luz stare at each other for a moment, before Camila gives daughter and gives her a warm embrace, both crying.
Camila invites you all inside for dinner, and after finishing you all contribute to cleaning up. Camila is washing the dishes, Gus helps her by using magic and an awkward Amity gives her a cup of tea. Camila smiles, and pats Amity on the shoulder.
She joins you at the table, leaving a seat for Luz between you and her as Willow rubs a hand against your back as a comforting gesture.
Luz gets out a box of bandages that have cartoon mascots resembling Eda, King, and Hooty, and she sighs softly. Hunter approaches her quietly, grabbing onto the doorframe.
“Hey. Thanks for not telling them that I'm a...” Hunter starts, looking away, embarrassed.
Luz opens the box of bandages, staring at the bandage softly. “A grimwalker?”
“Shhhh, don't say it so loud!” He shushes worriedly. Luz hands him two bandaids for you, and he stares at them for a moment before speaking. “Uh... what about you? How've you been since, uh...?”
“Since we were in Belos’ mind? Since I found out I helped him meet the Collector?” Luz squeezes her eyes shut, holding back tears. “Oh my gosh, Hunter. They're all gonna hate me.”
“What? Psssh!” Hunter scoffs lightheartedly, stepping closer to Luz as she wipes away her tears and slightly smiles at Hunter. “No, of course they won't. They won't hate you any more than me when they find out that...” He starts panicking. “I might be a clone of... someone who was a... witch hunter... with... Belos...”
Luz and Hunter frown, and slowly turn their individual gazes to their partners; you and Amity.
“(Y/N) already knows and still loves you, but… we'll tell them. When we're ready..”
Hunter nods and the two join the others in the dining room. Willow scoots over a seat for Hunter to sit next to you as Luz sits on your other side and places a bandaid on Amity’s hand.
“Okay, so in the Demon Realm, you fought the evil Emperor Belos who turned into a monster...”
Hunter shakily grabs your arm, pulling you from your thoughts to sit up straight and watch him. He opens the bandaids and places them over them on the scratches on your arm, and smiles worriedly at you. When you smile and take his hand into yours, it quells any fear he might have that you don’t love him the same as before you knew he was a grimwalker.
“Well, he started out human.” Gus says, and you and Hunter turn to listen to the conversation.
“Right, but he was defeated by a newer, smaller bad guy?”
“The Collector.” You say, clearing your throat as Camila turns her attention to you. “We don't know what he is or how Belos found him.”
“Who knows if we'll ever figure that out?!” Luz says, panicked. Amity and the rest of the table (except you) look at her, confused. “But they're creating a lot of chaos.”
“We have to do whatever it takes to get back.” Amity states firmly, turning back to Camila.
“And you will. But for now, you should all rest.” Camila smiles, looking around at all the kids that are now in her care. “You're all safe here.”
Camila shows you and the other girls to Luz’s room, and Gus and Hunter to the basement.
Vee, the basilisk Luz told you about, shows you, Willow, and Amity a small black box with numbers on it with a wide smile.
“In the morning, instead of screaming, it'll do this!” She presses a button on it, and it activates an alarm.
You stare at it curiously while Willow and Amity gasp in shock, jumping up from where they were sitting.
“Don't worry, Vee!” Amity says, placing an arm in front of Vee.
“We'll keep you safe!” Willow shouts, destroying the alarm with her plant magic. Once it collapses on the floor in tiny pieces, Willow and Amity smile. “Good work! It's dead!” She and Amity bump elbows as you pout and Vee stares at the alarm clock sadly.
“Uh... thanks.” Vee says sheepishly.
You look down at the floor where Willow made a hole with her plant magic, and glance up to see Camila peeking in the room. You sheepishly smile, drawing at spell circle and casting a spell that fixes the hole.
Camila smiles at you thankfully, and closes the door.
Over the months you stay in the human realm, there are multiple tries at a portal door to get back to the Demon Realm, but they all fail. But it doesn’t stop you from having fun there, after all, Camila has made time to take you all on tons of trips over Luz’z summer break. You cut Hunter’s hair for him as he shyly explained what he had found on Philip and his brother, and you both experienced human rain for… the first(ish) time.
That one had to be your favorite memory here so far, giggling at Hunter being covered in mud as you hopped down the stairs. You kneeled and brushed the mud out of his hair and eyes, and his shy grin that he always gave you when you were that close.
But summer came to a close and Luz was at school, so you and everyone else were hanging out in the abandoned house behind Luz’s home.
Amity, Gus, Hunter, Willow were all trilling R's, while you and Vee — having lived with Luz and Camila, were speaking perfect Spanish.
Gus mumbled to himself, “Am I doing this right?”
You and Vee spoke into the tablets app, and a ding sound came from it, making the two of you grin.
“Perfecto! You're our top student!”
Amity squinted at the tablet. “Hmm. I was the top student once.”
Flapjack begins pecking at the table, and you glance at Hunter, who shrugs.
“He's still doing that, huh?” Gus asks, crossing his arms and looking up at Hunter.
“He won't tell me what he's looking for.” Hunter sighs and shakes his head.
Camila enters the shed with a warm smile, “Hi.” Looking around she grins, “Ooh! I like what you've done with the place. No more exposed nails or possum nests. But this still confuses me.” Camila motions to a painting of Hooty on the door, and you squint at the droopy paint.
“Yeah. He still confuses us too.”
“Hola Camila.” Gus smiles, waving at her. “We're learning Spanish from this scary owl app.”
“Hoot hoot! Practice every day, or I'll appear in your nightmares.”
Camila blinks in surprise. “Oh, okay. Well, I'm going to pick Luz up from school.” Camila grins, placing a hand on her hip. “Pop quiz; ¿Como se dice eso en español?”
“Oh, oh! Uh... Hunter inhales and starts speaking strained Spanish.
“Voy a recoger a Luz de la escuela.” You grin, clasping your hands together.
“Muy bueno!” Camila grins and winks at you. “Keep it up.”
Amity sighs after Camila leaves, “Maybe we should take a break.”
“A siesta.” Willow grins.
“Siesta!” Gus exclaims, bounding up from his spot on the floor.
“We've been here for months, and we've made no progress on the portal door.” Amity explains, throwing her arms out in exasperation as she stands up. “We can't expect Camila to take care of us forever.”
“In the meantime, we could pull more weight around the kitchen.” Gus nods. “My mustard ravioli did bring tears to her eyes.”
“Those weren't the kind of tears you're thinking of.” Vee cringes.
“I can help fixed damaged clothes!” Hunter holds up a shirt he made / fixed, grinning.
Willow holds up a plant monster, “I can spruce up the garden!”
“Maybe we need to look elsewhere. There's an entire Human Realm to search.” Amity says, placing a hand on her chin while pacing in front of the group.
“But Luz has school most of the week.” You say, a hand on your hip.
“So? Let's explore the town ourselves. After all, Luz went into the Boiling Isles on her own.”
“If Eda came here before, maybe there were others. Maybe they left something behind we can use.”
“Yes! That's the spirit! Together, there is no challenge that can hold us back.” Amity trips in a hole Flapjack pecked and faceplants, making everyone cringe. Amity groans, “Ow.”
“It's a sign! We're doomed!” Gus gasps.
“Come on Flapjack, this isn't funny anymore.” Amity grunts, until she sees something in the hole. She gasps, “There's something in here.”
Amity holds up a hexagonal box as the group gathers around her. She opens it and takes out a scroll and unrolls it.
You kneel down next to her, and run a hand over the paper. “Hmm. Looks like… a map?” You guess, looking up at Amity.
“Or a secret code?”
Flapjack chirps at Hunter, landing on his shoulder. “Flapjack, is this what you've been looking for? What does it lead to?”
“That eye, it kinda looks like the old portal door.” You say aloud, making Willow and Gus gasp.
“The portal door!” They link arms and begin chanting. “Portal door! Portal door! Portal door!”
“Alright, alright, calm down,” You smile softly, standing up and putting a hand on their shoulders to stop their bouncing. “Let's tell Luz.”
“What if it's just another dead end?” Amity sighs, turning to face you. “She already feels responsible for our other failed attempts.
“Then, let's not tell her until we can figure it out.” Willow grins. “Using our buff brains!” She flexes her arms, and everyone follows but Hunter, who’s blushing at you.
“Buff brains!”
Hunter laughs, still flustered as he joins in. “Yeah!”
You and Gus head towards the basement after helping Camila in the kitchen, “Thanks for helping, kids.”
“Anytime!” Gus smiles, waving back at her.
“Anytime, Ms. Camila.” You wave, “Good night!”
Gus hops down the stairs and swings around a banister, flopping on the couch as you walk down the stairs normally. Hunter looks up from his sewing and smiles at the both of you.
“Whoo! We've got a big day ahead of us, so I'm gonna buenas this noche.” Gus smiles, getting under his blanket as you sit on Hunter’s sleeping bag.
“Mm-hmm!” Hunter smiles with his eyes closed, and gets his finger caught in Camila's sewing machine. “Ow!” He whimpers, and you gasp.
“Are you okay?” You asked worriedly, and Gus nods.
“Yeah, that sounded painful.”
Hunter scoffs, and continues sewing, “I've been training in the Emperor's Coven for as long as I can remember.” He smiles confidently at you and Gus, making you smile. “I think I can handle a little...” He cuts his finger, and winces. You and Gus wince with him. “...pain.”
“Oh. That went clean through.” Gus said sheepishly as you pulled a bandaid out of your pocket and gestured for Hunter to come over.
Hunter sat down beside you and started speaking with a smile as you wrapped his finger, “Camila taught me how to use this sewing contraption. Even Darius's stitches have never been this neat. Oh, and look at what I made!” He leans away, grabbing something and holding up a shirt. You scoot back to lean against the couch as you and Gus listen to him. “These are mystical beasts called wolves, and I love them.”
He smiles, his eyes practically twinkling with wonder and joy at the thought of wolves.
“That looks great, Hunter.” You smile, crawling forward and ruffling his hair. He laughs, and fixes it as you crawl into his sleeping bag with a grin. “You know, you've been smiling a lot more since we've been here.”
“It's not like I don't want to return!” He turns to you and waves his hands, denying that he wants to stay here permanently. “I just need a way to pass the time. That's all.”
“No. It's good to see you happy.” Gus chuckles, nuzzling into his pillow. “One of us might as well be.”
‘You could say that again,’ You think to yourself, sighing as Hunter joins you in his sleeping bag.
“What was it like to be in the Emperor's Coven for so long?” Gus asks curiously.”
“I trained a lot. I studied a lot. I wasn't really allowed to be around the other scouts.” Hunter explained as you turned on your side to look at him. “But weekends were nice. I got to leave the castle for missions.”
“…” You look at his gloveless hands and stare for a moment. “Do you miss it?”
“I miss…” He sighs and turns his head to you. “knowing who I'm supposed to be.”
“I miss my dad.” Gus says despondently, turning onto his back and staring up at the ceiling.
“I miss my mom. And King.” You sigh, twirling a strand of hair around your finger.
“Even Hooty?” Hunter asks, shuddering.
“Yes, even Hooty.” You chuckle, hugging his arm to your chest.
Hunter smiles down at you, “We'll find a way back. We have to.”
Gus gasps excitedly. “Oh, my Titan. That's a line from this book I found.” He jumps off the couch and rustles around in a box before pulling out a book. “Cosmic Frontier! It's a story that takes place in the stars.”
“Why would anyone wanna go up there?” Hunter asks curiously.
“I don't know. Humans like spreading their junk everywhere.” Gus shrugs, but continues rambling. “But it's a story of people trying to get back home, like us.”
“Uh-huh.” Hunter nods, intrigued as Gus hands him the book and points to people on the cover. “We got Captain Avery, Security Officer Quando, Alien Princess Gorina, and a Chief Engineer O'Bailey who's hiding as a clone from the enemy planet.”
Hunter gasps, and looks at Gus as he walks towards a door, “What, uh, happens to him?”
“I guess you'll have to find out.” Gus opens a closet to reveal costumes, and shares a grin with Hunter.
The next day, the rest of you without Luz gather in the abandoned house again.
“All right. Luz is at her mom's vet clinic putting tiny little bandages on ‘hedgehogs,’” Amity grins, standing in front of everyone. “So today, we're going into town to solve this code.”
“Ears.” Gus nods, pulling his beanie over his ears.
“Routes.” Vee nods.
“Snacks,” She shows her bag off and pulls your arm around out to show off the snacks on the inside of your jacket. “check.”
“Human disguise, check. Eh?” Hunter announces, walking in and drawing everyone’s attention. He was wearing a costume from the book Gus had shown the two of you last night.
You blushed, clapping at him enthusiastically, “Oh, that is a look.” You grin as Willow snaps a picture of him.
“According to Cosmic Frontier, this is what the modern human male wears.” Hunter informs, walking in while reading the book.
“This was written in the '90s about the year 2008.” Vee cringes after taking the book and reading the cover.
“Yeah. Can't wait for that New Year's party.” Hunter chuckles at Vee as you approach him, holding up his arms and circling him to look at the costume better.
“This costume is so accurate, Hunter.” You compliment, holding up his arm. “Down to the stain on side!”
“I kno— wait, there’s a stain?” Hunter questions, making you giggle as you quickly cast a spell to get rid of it.
“And did you two get to the last chapter?”
“O'Bailey and Gorina are still hiding the fact that O’Bailey a duplicant in hyperdisguise.” Hunter grins.
“But Captain Avery is figuring it out!” You squeal.
“I think he already knows but-“
“Ah, bup-bup-bup! No, no, no, no, no spoilers!” Hunter squawks, covering his ears.
“Hunter, I don't think the world is ready for the brave fashion choices of the year 2008.” Amity says, her nose scrunching up in disgust at the costume. “Please change.”
You quickly lunge at her and put a hand over her mouth. “Don't listen to her!”
“Aw, geez,” Vee morphs into her human form and holds up the map. “we're gonna miss the bus.”
“Oh, it's okay! I'll catch up.” Hunter waves them off. “There's a transport worm every half hour.”
Everyone heads out, you lagging behind while grabbing your fanny pack. You quickly step over and kiss Hunter’s cheek, and turn to him before closing the door.
“With that costume, it seems I’m going to need your help with a Gorina look when we get back.” You wink, closing the door as Hunter blushes at you.
          ———
After looking around and finding some answers, you take the bus back to Luz’s house to find Hunter in the basement with Flapjack while Gus brings the costumes upstairs for the others to look at.
After Gus leaves, Hunter turns to Flapjack after you set down the stuff you pickpocketed on the desk. Grinning, your palisman flies out and you prepare to search through it, but Hunter starts talking.
“Did you know about this?” He asks sternly. “That he was here? I can tell you're hiding something.”
Flapjack chirps as you and your palisman share a glance.
Hunter sighs, “Sorry. I shouldn't take this out on you. I'm just scared.”
Clearing your throat, Hunter whips his head to you, who has a brow raise and sits crisscrossed on the chair at the sewing machine.
The sound of a vehicle pulling into the driveway saves Hunter from the interrogation, and you both head upstairs. Hunter heads outside while you head into the living room, (P/N) resting on your shoulder.
“Oh, (Y/N)!” Gus exclaims, grabbing an item and running up to you with it behind his back. “I know what we’re gonna be for Halloween, but where’s Hunter.”
“He went outside to see Luz, I think.” You scratch your head, and try to peer behind his back as Camila walks in. “What’s your costume idea?”
“You, are going to be the almighty….” He pulls out a blaster, paint splattered over the cylinder barrel. Your eyes light up as you take it from the boy, a grin on your face.
“Gorina!” You squeal, bouncing around before posing and aiming the blaster at the wall, trying to imitate the character.
Luz and Hunter enter the house as you do so, and Gus nudges you to signal that they’re back.
“Hey, we're back!” Hunter chuckles. “And we bought some, uh, cars.”
As Amity turns to Luz, Gus rushes over to Hunter with you.
“Guess what I've got planned? I'm gonna be Captain Avery, (Y/N)‘s gonna be Gorina, and you're...” Gus hands Hunter a prop for his character, and he gasps.
“Chief Engineer O'Bailey?” Hunter grins, squealing as he holds it to his ear.
Camila gulps, her grip on her mug tightening. “How do you know about Cosmic Frontier?”
“All the books in your basement.” You say, smiling at her.
“Oh!” Camila laughs nervously. “Funny how things just show up in basements, right? Without you hiding or putting them there. Life sure is full of surprises.”
“Cool! Humans freak out just like us.” Gus grins, gesturing to Camila.
“It'll be fun. We want to experience your weird human traditions.” She laughs, pulling out a headband and putting it on her head.
The next day at the Haunted Hayride, Hunter helps you out of the car and lets you fix your outfit before grabbing your hand again and intertwining your fingers. Smiling up at him, you stepped close to Hunter, your other hand coming up and hooking onto his forearm as you joined the group.
“All right. We'll keep the puzzle a secret 'till the time is right.” Amity grins as Luz speaks to her mom back at the car. “And then we'll tell her about the Titan Blood!”
Hunter suddenly whips his head around, and glances at Flapjack. “Did you hear that?” He whispers to his palisman so that you wouldn’t hear.
Flapjack chirps as you glance over to Hunter, raising a brow at his attention being off the group.
“Hey, it's okay. It's probably just in my head again.” He quietly reassures as you turn your head back. “Nestle down, Flapjack.”
Luz finally joins them, and Amity grabs her shoulders excitedly. “We're gonna have the best night, and we might even have surprise for you.”
“Yeah, me too.”
After doing a few activities, you move over to haunted hayride, where Hunter helps you up the hay bales and into the tractor, where you sit in between him and Luz. You offer your hand to him, and he takes it with a bashful grin,
“I hope you're all prepared for a truly scary ride.” Masha grins, their bangs blowing in the wind.
“Make us cry! Make us cry!” Gus and Willow chant excitedly, making Masha smile wider.
“Because there's nothing scarier than knowledge.”
“Boo, just lie to me!” Gus heckles, earning a nudge from Willow.
“Let me tell you the eeriest unsolved mystery of Gravesfield.” Masha says deviously as the tractor begins moving. “The Tale of the Brothers Wittebane.”
You, Luz, and Hunter gasp, and Amity leans in, moving her bang away. “Wittebane? Isn't that Belos?”
“The year is 1613.” Lights glow behind the four, and they turn to see the story being told in an exhibit. “Two orphaned brothers arrive in Gravesfield. Their names? Philip... and Caleb.“
“Oh, no.”
As Masha narrates the story, cardboard cutouts depicting events that happened to Philip and Caleb play out in the background as the gang watches.
“Caleb did his best to take care of his younger brother. They tried to fit in with this town, and its unsavory practices. They became witch-hunters!” Masha informs, the wind blowing the stray strands of hair on their head around. “Local lore suggests that the Brothers Wittebane met a real witch from another world! Her name was Evelyn. And the older brother was spirited away. She dazzled him with magic and visions of a strange yet beautiful place. They used a secret code to travel between worlds. Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice. But neither were ever seen again! Maybe Philip saved Caleb, and they went on to lead peaceful lives. Or maybe,” They turn on a flashlight and points it at their face, “he's still chasing his brother, caught in a cycle of horror and strife!”
Masha turns off the flashlight, smiling. “Sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset.” Masha jokes. You glance at Hunter, who seems out of it. “But that's just me.”
The hayride ends and the gang gets out of the tractor. Nearby, Hunter hears Belos laughing, which terrifies him. He grabs Luz once he realizes that you aren’t watching, and the two run off.
After a few minutes, the group starts to look for them after noticing.
“Luz? Hunter?” You call out, and accidentally bump into Amity.
She shakes her head, “Did you find them?”
“Calm down. They probably just went to buy some more cars.” Gus reassured as you fidgeted with the seeds on your shirt.
“Yeah. Yeah. You're right. I just- I wanted to show Luz the rebus.” She looks down at the pocket in her dress to pull it out, but it’s gone. “Wait. Where did it go?”
“Kids!” You all hear Camila’s voice call for you, and turn to see her and Vee rushing to you from her car. “Have you seen Luz? And has she, um, said anything weird?”
Vee whips out the phone Camila finds her with a grin. “Boom! Find a phone.”
After a few beeps, it shows Luz’s location to be deep inside the forest. And as confused as you all are, you’re more concerned with finding your friends.
You run into the graveyard Luz was in to see her fighting… Hunter? You gasp as you gently push past Amity, eyes wide as you watch your possessed boyfriend fight off your closest friend.
“Hunter?” You question in horror, the blue glowing eyes that didn’t belong to him glanced over at you with a cruel smile.
“That’s Hunter?” Camila gasps.
“Something's wrong.” Gus shakes his head.
Hunter speaks, but it’s meshed with Belos’ voice. “See, this is why you're so useful, Luz. You're so desperate to help people, you even helped me meet The Collector.”
“What?”
“I didn't mean to. I thought I was doing something good.” Luz states, clasping her hands over her chest.
“You did do something good. I thought this one was another lost cause.” Belos spoke through Hunter, and you furrowed your brows furiously. “Because of you, we can finish our work as witch-hunters, starting with them!”
He launches his goop arm at you and the others, but you quickly summon your staff, deflecting it and flying off towards him.
He grunts as you, Amity, and Gus use your magic to try and knock him down or restrain him, but to no avail.
“Hey, Belos. Remember me?” Gus shouts, and Belos launches his arm out again, only for you and Willow to latch onto it and slam it onto the ground to restrain him.
Vee runs forward, “Hang tight, Hunter!” She starts draining his magic with her powers.
Amity snatches Vee away before she can be knocked away. “Vee, watch out!”
After making sure Vee was safe, you all fly back to try again, but Belos knocks Amity, Gus, and Willow out of the sky while you narrowly dodge the smack.
You quickly cast a spell for a cloud to appear under them before they hit the ground, and turn back to Hunter and Luz.
Luz uses Hunter’s staff and teleports to him, hugging his arms to his sides, “I know you can hear me, Hunter. Fight him off!”
Belos flips Luz off of him, and Amity creates a bridge of ice and vines to catch her as you swoop down and break her fall. Letting her roll off you, you quickly sit up.
Flapjack starts chirping and pecking at Belos's antlers, but the he immediately catches the small palisman. Everyone freezes, and Belos chuckles darkly.
“That's right. You wouldn't want me harming your precious palisman, would you?” His grin drops for a moment, before returning. “Oh, but then again, I don't care what you want. Goodbye, Evelyn.” Belos sends sharp parts of himself shooting through Flapjack. You gasp, tears welling in your eyes as he lets go of the bird
“Flapjack!” You cry out, Luz crawling over as he lands in your hands. “Flapjack, you'll be okay.” You gently caress the top of his head, and he chirps at you.
Hunter groans, holding his arm as he stands up. “You know what I'd like, Belos?” He slowly trudges towards the lake, the vial of Titan’s blood in his grasp. “'d like to leave the Emperor's Coven and never step foot in that throne room again. I'd like to study wild magic, and learn how to carve palismen. I'd like to attend Hexide as a regular student and play flyer derby with my friends. I’d like to be able to see my partner without worrying about you killing them. But most of all, I'd like to make sure you never hurt anyone again!” Hunter throws the vial of Titan's blood into the river, and Belos takes over again.
“No!” Belos jumps into the water, managing to catch the vial but falls unconscious as a result.
“No!” You gasp, standing up and moving to the edge of the bridge.
“Move.” Camila says sternly, brushing past you. She jumps into the water to save him and a few moments later, manages to rescue him.
“Be careful with him!” You shout, moving to the edge to help.
The others help you and Camila hoist Hunter onto the surface, you gently set his head on your lap, hands cupping his face.
Belos finally leaves Hunter's body as he takes the monstrous form he previously had.
“Caleb, you would stab me in the back?”
Luz stares at him angrily, “You did it to him first.”
Belos, outraged, smashes the vial of Titan's blood into the archway, opening a portal to the Demon Realm. Your mouth drops open, but your glare remains.
Belos growls, “This is for the good of your souls. You'll thank me later.”
He goes through the portal, leaving everyone speechless.
“That's the Belos you've been fighting this whole time?!”
You turn to the group after shaking Hunter for a while, “Guys, Hunter isn't moving.” You cry, tears in your eyes as you lean down to his face to listen for breathing.
“Vee, call an ambulance.” Camila says, and Vee nods, standing up and pulling out her phone.
“Uh, do human doctors know about possession?” Willow asks, eyes welling with tears.
“Or Grimwalkers?” You ask, looking up at Camila desperately.
“Possession?!”
“Grimwalkers?!”
“We should still call a doctor.”
“I'm not getting cell reception.”
“What do we do?”
A weakened Flapjack flies out of Luz's pocket to Hunter, and the others watch despondently. Flapjack rubs his face against Hunter’s cheek and chirps sadly, then settles down, sacrificing his life to revive Hunter as the others sadly watch on.
Hunter groans and slowly opens his eyes, which have turned brown, “Hey, guys. Is everyone else okay?”
Gus and Luz share a glance before turning back to Hunter, “Actually, Flapjack...”
“Don't. Don't.” He cries, hand clutching his chest where Flapjack last laid. “I already know.”
The tears you’d been holding finally fall as Hunter sits up, leaning back on you for support as you hug him from behind tightly.
“Sit up slowly, baby. Are you in pain anywhere?” Camila asks worriedly, placing a hand on his shin.
Hunter squeezes your forearm as you cry into his back. “I'm okay.”
You don’t really hear the others talking about the Collector over your silent cries and sniffs, but when Hunter turns around and takes your face into his hands softly, you feel grateful.
“I thought I lost you,” You sighed as he stood and pulled you up, not letting go of your hands,
“I’m here.” Hunter smiles, pulling you over to Luz and the others.
“Mija, now that I've seen what you're up against, there is no way I'm letting you go back there alone.” Camila says firmly. “It is our duty to help your friends get back to their families.”
“But...” Luz starts, but Hunter steps over with you right behind him.
“You were tricked. That's what Belos does. He tricks people.” Hunter says grimly, earning a squeeze on his hand from you. “But if it weren't you, it would have been someone else, and then there'd be no one left to fight back. So let's do that. Let's fight back. Please? For Flapjack?”
Luz turns her gaze back to you, and she’s reminded of her family on the other side. Your shared family. You smile encouragingly at her.
“For Flapjack.”
The portal pulses, and the group turns their attention towards it.
“The portal's closing.” Vee points out.
“Then we better head in.” Luz nods, and you and Hunter make your way to the portal first.
Standing before it, he looks to you, and you look at him. You give him a smile reassuring smile, and he sighs shakily.
“Time to go home, Flap.”

Note
Is Belos more redeemable in this AU? Would it be possible for Luz and Hunter to change Belos' mind about his genocide plot?
Oh absolutely not. Belos is different than canon in that he arguably cares for Luz in a more legitimate way than "she's human and I need to save humans," not that he'll listen to her if she tells him that genocide is bad. I don't think either version of him has the capacity to accept that what he's been working towards has been wrong, especially since it included killing his brother and clones of his brother for centuries. Even Luz isn't that persuasive.
Besides, I have something else in mind.

The Owl House Notes
I have watched TOH several times over the past year and a half, and I will never get over it. All the character development, the little pop culture references, the world development. Ugh. It's amazing. So here are some notes.
we all know that the Clawthorne family is the family that Evelyn, the witch that Philip and Caleb met, is from. I feel that it's only right that Hunter is an honorary Clawthorne, too. He's literally a clone of Caleb. Obviously the Clawthornes are the descendants of Evelyn and Caleb's relationship. So I feel it's only right. I know we've all accepted Darius as Hunter's dad/dad-figure, but it would be cool if he was included in the Clawthorne family, too.
I think it's pretty obvious by now that I love the found-family trope. As someone that had family problems growing up, I value the bonds that end up being stronger than familial bonds. Now, Luz basically has 2 moms plus a bonus parent (Raine) and 3 siblings (King, Hunter, and Vee), and I love that. If you haven't seen fanart of all of them, you're missing out. It's just amazing.
Speaking of their relationships, I love to see how they accept and even request physical affection. In the beginning, Eda and King are confused and almost repulsed by Luz's hugs. King quickly becomes more accepting of these hugs, even getting angry when Amity gets a hug from Luz before him, calling her a "swindler and a thief". But in the last episode, Eda runs to King and Luz to give them hugs and kisses before they play the Collector's "games". I wonder if physical affection was prevelant in the Boiling Isles because in the second episode Eda asks "What is this" when hugged by Luz. I think it is because Willow and Gus hug Luz when they show up to the Owl House. I think Eda just isn't used to physical affection, or maybe she isn't used to it from strangers.
Here's another thing I'm wondering. The Bat Queen states that she doesn't remember the witch that held her staff, but that she was the staff for a giant. You know who was giant? Papa Titan. What if her witch was Papa Titan? It would make sense, because he's been dead for hundreds of years, and the mind loses memories after so long. Also, she takes care of all the other palismen that were lost, including Flapjack, whose witch was Evelyn. If we can assume that the events of TOH take place in the late 2010's/early 2020s, then the age of these palismen makes sense. Anyway, I think that The Bat Queen could've been Papa Titan's palisman because there are no other signs of giant beings on the Boiling Isles or in the Demon Realm.
At some point, we catch a glimpse of the "recipe" for creating clones. If you didn't catch it, here it is: Galdorstone, Palistrom Wood, Stonesleeper Lungs, Bone of Ortet, and Selkidomus scales. This would partly explain why there's a shortage of Palistrom Wood, why the Galdorstones are so rare and so well hidden, and why Belos instructed Hunter to hunt down the Selkidomus in season 2. It also explains why the clone he attempted to possess in the final episode didn't work out. He likely didn't have all of those materials or didn't have enough to make a fully formed clone. When he initially tried to take over one of the clones, I was worried that there would be two Hunters walking around and that Belos would try to impersonate Hunter, which would have derailed all of their plans. The Bone of Ortet, by the way, is basically just a bone of the one you wish to clone.
I wish there could've been a longer season 3. Although I love the 3 episodes we were given, and I think they're perfect, I wish it could've been drawn out. I would've loved to see the gang in the human world more, to see the rebuilding process of the Isles, see them do a field trip to the human realm from the university. But, I'll take what we were given.
I love the random pop culture references we get. During "Eclipse Lake" we get a Dragon Ball reference and I found that extremely hilarious. In "For the Future", Caleb says "It's not like a swarm of ghosts will inexplicably appear if you say his name...I think", which gives us the second Harry Potter reference of the show (the first one appearing in the first episode where Luz is trying to fly on Owlbert and says "expecto"). It's just great. I love to see it.
I always have more thoughts about the show when I watch it. I need to start adding them more often.

i was about to send an ask like "hahaha half of the alt timelines for pl au are mostly just "what if More Grimwalkers" next one is camila walker. idfk" but.. im thinking about camila walker now.
au where belos got luz when she was a few years older and therefore she missed her mom and wanted to go home Extremely Bad. and belos somehow gets his way into the human realm and finds camila.
and he explains how luz was Chosen to be in the isles, and how she cant come home BUT camila can come with him. and uh camila Reacts Appropriately. by trying to Kill Him.
but belos was prepared for this. so he knocks her out. and she wakes up without a pinky finger on one hand, in her own bed.
and a few weeks later, he reintroduces Camila to luz. and even if luz is old enough to remember her mom, she isnt old enough to do the mental leaps it would take to realize whats wrong. shes still a kid.
so. belos tells the world the isles has brought them two humans.
(i know this makes me Part Of The Problem of all the more grimwalkers aus. but SSSHHH)
FJSJDJD. justice was just saying this as she drove me home, actually. "everyone keeps coming up with new grimwalker horror that i didn't even know was a possibility with grimwalker horror. because i'd never seen it done before"
this actually isn't the first time a grimwalker camila timeline has been posited. it IS a lot better than the one from a few months back, though. iirc that one was about camila fighting her way into the isles much Much sooner, but refusing to cooperate with belos, & belos straight-up killing her. and then creating a grimwalker of her for luz, who is Distraught.
love thinking about this. love camila Not Being Fucking Dead for it. and now if i can diverge a little....
i think Most of my owl house followers now have never read the dreamer trilogy by maggie stiefvater, which is my next biggest fandom by far. & also remains my favorite bookseries ever (despite some mild disappointment with certain arcs in the final book).
one of the main characters in that series had parents whose relationship was.... Not Very Functional. to put it mildly. and his mom eventually divorced his dad & abandoned the family. and his dad's response to this was to create a sweet, gentle, even-tempered stepford smiler clone of his bitch wife. with no agency. and have her raise his kids.
the problem is that this MC, alone of all of his siblings, remembers his real mom.
and knows that the mom who raised him was Wrong (TM).
and has been quite literally gaslit about this and told that he's an insane psycho cunt for his Entire Life.
also another one of the main characters (hennessy, of my blog description fame) has been essentially creating and sustaining and murdering grimwalkers of herself since she was ten. she & the main clone of herself are both main POV characters who have a Viciously codependent/messy relationship and battle for dominance over their shared identity.
so like. if anyone here has been Very Into all the grimwalker horror in this AU, and/or into all the psychological horror of luz and hunter's relationship, and would like to read some original fiction that features All Of That Shit..... WOW do i have a bookseries you'll enjoy.
