What Are Macros and Why Knowing Them Is Essential for Weight Loss?
Macros, short for macronutrients, are the building blocks of your nutrition—and understanding them is a game-changer for weight loss. It does truly feel like everyone around is losing weight and I can’t seem to lose even a pound.
I’m hitting over 10k steps a day, exercising 4-5 days a week, lowered my portions, eating more fruits and veggies, upped my water intake, upped my protein, I don’t snack, I dont drink alcohol, and I still cant lose a thing. It is so incredibly frustrating.
Anyway.
A student drew this portrait of me.

the smaller and less significant you are, the exponentially hotter it is when a giant interacts with you lovingly i think
that is to say i have an intense need to be speck-sized and have a giant looking down at me on a table or something, their iris alone multiple times bigger than my entire body, them just baaaarely able to even see and process my existence without some kind of magnifying glass... and then they smile and greet me like a precious loved one
that would fix me i think

'sabrina carpenter is soooo male gaze-y' okay name one female public figure who doesn't have to cater to the male gaze, at least to some extent, in order to maintain their position in the public eye. if you don't like her make-up or costumes that's fine but don't act like it's some salient feminist critique to say wearing lingerie makes you an instrument of patriarchy when every single female popstar has to conform to a certain standard of femininity to reach acclaim. there is certainly room for a convo about why we only listen to music and watch films when the women creatives involved have flawlessly styled hair and a full face of make-up and impracticable clothes on 25/8, and how these standards implicate women in general. but critiquing this one single individual woman for being an arbiter of patriarchy smacks of weirdness. like just say you don't like her hair and go we don't need to act like sabrina carpenter herself invented patriarchy

Last night I was saying that I wouldn't care if there were bugs in my peanut butter when suddenly there was a giant lull in alll the other conversations so I said "how am I supposed to track my protein macros if there are bugs in my peanut butter that I can't account for?" and everyone turned like ??? (In the most 'this sounds entertaining and weird, who fucking said that' way)

does anyone know of an app thats actually good for tracking macros? Calorie counting is not something I'm interested in- I can't do restrictions, ED history- and finding something with a good focus on macros has been difficult

Going to the gym works so well as a coping mechanism because you can trick your brain into thinking you're self destructive because of the pain but instead you're actually just getting healthier and stronger

the best advice i can give to anyone who wants to start exercising is to do what works and is fun for you. i started going to the gym last year after consistently doing home workouts and i was pretty good about it, but there was always this lingering guilt (if i didn’t go) and anxiety (about being Perceived) about it. i think a lot of it had to do with the reason i was going to the gym (body modification) and pressure from outside forces like fitness influencers on TikTok. i think to really make movement a permanent part of my daily life, i had to release all of those expectations about how fast things were gonna change for me and the reason why i worked out. i’ve been pretty consistent now about working out (yoga, dance via Just Dance or classes on YouTube, and short dumbbell workouts from my girl MadFit) and i feel so much less stressed about working out. i also had to transform my mindset from “i’m working out to look a certain way” to “i’m working out to show gratitude to all the bones and muscles and tendons and organs and everything in my body for how hard they work to keep my alive and functioning 24/7”. you really have to personalize movement to not only what feels right for your body, but also to what feels right for your soul. now i’m gonna start hiking within the next two weeks and i’m so excited because i love walking period but walking in nature????!!!!!! i hope i can strengthen my body and become more in-tune with the earth in doing so :-)

Day One... in a manner of speaking
Day one of this blog, but not day one of my journey. I just checked my spreadsheet (yes, spreadsheet, I'm a nerd) where I track my workouts and weigh-ins, and by that metric I'm on Day 96.
At another point, I may make a whole post about how I got started on the real day one, what the last 90 days looked like, and why I'm just showing up in this space now, but for the time being I'm just going to get started, as promised.
This post came out a little long, so I'll probably try to break things up into a few posts about each day instead from this point forward. Also, no pictures yesterday - boring!
Yesterday (6/09/25)
Strength Work Day!
Monday is upper body day! We love upper body day. We love lower body day, too, and also full body day, and also run day.
Last week I tweaked something in my left arm, so it's been recovering, and this was my first UB day really testing the waters around the weight I was at before having to rest for a bit.
Equipment was a pair of dumbbells (10 lb each) and a kettlebell (8 lb). I was aiming for 6 different moves, 5 sets of each, and nailed it!
Overhead Carry - PB for the day was 20x13
Bicep Curls - PB of 20x10
Single Arm Lateral Raise - PB of 8x10
Bent Over Dual Row - PB of 20x8
Dumbbell Shrugs - PB of 20x13
Knee Pushups - PB of 15, but 47 total
Steps: 9,481
Throughout the day, at various points, I hopped on a walking pad for work. At the end of the day, I took my dog for a ~1 mile walk. I would have liked a longer walk, but it's heating up here and my husky mix is less enthusiastic about an afternoon jaunt. Daily step goal is 7-10k, so check that box.
Now I'm going to talk food.
Breakfast: my go-to strength workout day smoothie!
water (4 oz)
orange juice (5 oz)
unflavored whey protein powder (1 scoop)
creatine (5 mg)
2 oz frozen banana
5 oz frozen mixed fruit
2 oz baby spinach
30g protein, 1 g fat, 51g carbs, 6.5g fiber
Lunch: meal-prepped homemade pasta sauce with shrimp and 56g of whole wheat thin spaghetti (28g protein, 5g fat, 54g carbs, 6g fiber)
Dinner: meal-prepped Japanese curry (using Golden Curry mix) with chicken breast, sweet potato, bell pepper, broccoli, and edamame, served over rice (21 g protein, 8g fat, 46g carbs, 3g fiber)
Snacks through the day: Fat free plain greek yogurt with blueberries and blackberries (14/0/13/2), Raw almonds (6/13/5/3), and beef jerky (6/1/4/0)
Sweets: 1/2 small Tony's Chocoloney chocolate bar (2/7/13/0), two squares of a locally made caramel and semisweet chocolate candy (2/6/16/0)
Total Macros for the Day: 109 protein, 42 fat, 203 carbs, 20.5 fiber
Exceeded my protein goal, was under on fat, went over on carbs, and was under on fiber, but not bad. Came in just 40-ish calories under my intake goal for the day, so satisfied overall.
