It was just another one of those days where you felt like the scum of Nevada. Despite everything 2B has done for you, all the surgeries he performed on you despite him not being a doctor, all the time he’d make for you, all the small gestures he’d show you, you still felt as though you weren’t a good enough boyfriend for him. How could you deserve someone like him? He fought for Nevada. And what did you do? Lament your body, your past, your entire being. You must have been so annoying, so why would he spend time with someone like you? Was there an ulterior motive for that? You weren’t sure. You weren’t really the most capable or powerful grunt out there.

2B would notice you being rather down once he’s spent a few minutes with you. Yes, he doesn’t notice immediately since there’s a good chance he’s tired from the day, but once he realises it? He’ll ask you what’s wrong. Even if you’re not being honest with him, he has his ways of making you talk. Will be rather gentle with you at first, taking your hands in his, gently running his thumbs over them. You will relent eventually, because he can actually be annoying when he’s worried about you. And if none of that helps, then he threatens to send Hank after you. To this day you aren’t sure if he’s being serious or not.

Once you tell him what’s up I feel as though he’d sort of blame himself a little bit. Was he not a good enough boyfriend for you? Did he not make you feel loved enough? Yes, he was well aware that his work consumed his every waking moment and that he couldn’t always make time for you because of it, but he’d feel guilty regardless as you told him about your woes. 2B will let you talk, let you get everything off your chest as he listens intently, trying to come up with the right words to say to console you at least a little bit.

Although he may not be a very touchy grunt in general, he’d make an exception for you. He’d pull you into a hug and tell you that you couldn’t be any more wrong about your assumptions. You shine brighter than the sun used to in Nevada, you’re one of the reasons he fights for this godforsaken world in the first place. The hug would be kind of tight, and kind of awkward since he’s not really used to doing so, but it’s the thought that counts. You were being blue for nothing, he wasn’t going to leave. Love was rare in Nevada, but he certainly felt it for you. 2B may not be the most emotional person out there, but he’d try for you. He’d be a bit stern, but he just can’t help it when you’re being an idiot. What did he need to do in order to prove that he loved you? Did you want Phobos’ head on a stick? He could most certainly provide that, just give him the word. He loved you and he wasn’t going to leave you, no matter what your insecurities may have told you. You were the most perfect grunt out there and he’d never replace you with anyone else.

thinking abt thematics i personally think project gestalt and project kobold should be like. foils to eachother.

project gestalt is this massive, nightmarish genetic mess born of flesh and blood, made for rending skin and crushing bone as painfully and messily as it takes to get Phobos to where he wants to be. they're enormous (made to grow indefinitely), loud, and always make a huge entrance when they appear-- however, the s-3lf eater is this pristine, poignant figure that moves with the same sort of stealth i imagine a crane stalking fish in the water with. you often don't even realize she's appeared ingame until she's right up on you- the only warning you ever receive that she's encroaching is that ominous ass toll, precisely like some kind of reaper.

gonne died quietly, erased completely- not even her office survived. no one speaks of her, not once is she brought up by the other three head scientists until she's literally right in front of christoff's face and hunting him down with a scythe. (even then, he only addresses her by name after she's already sealed away again....)

on the other hand, phobos went out screaming- in the wake of his death the entire city was turned upside down, and his visage haunts the area for years to come. his men continue to work for him as if he's alive- his corpse is still able to be found in the room he died in, left bloodied and on display.

i dunno i dunno. red and blue, the carnality of flesh and the perfection of machinery..... perhaps something to be said about nevada as a whole with that last bit, considering what the universe's creator is called! im just thinking about them. huooo.....
