does anyone write fanfics for maiko? I had this idea of zuko trying to quit smoking after being addicted for years when he starts having some health issues. mai is mad at first that he let himself get this bad but eventually helps her husband out.

This chapter, fun fact, was one of the first chapters/scenes I wrote for this sequel and it was a part I really wanted to included. I feel like zuko and mai give a Morticia and Gomez kind of vibe so I’m trying to include more of that dynamic in the chapters for The Stars Are So Bright Tonight. I hope you like it!

I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.

Ursa didn’t play favorites.

Ursa didn’t think Azula was a monster.

Ursa simply, unequivocally, just didn’t enable Azula’s worst traits like Ozai did.

Ozai’s favorite child was Azula, but Ursa still loved her more.

Because enabling isn’t love.

What did Ozai’s enabling do? It made Azula into the type of person to never have any loyal friends. It made the type of person that Mai and Tai Lee would betray at the risk of their own lives.

Ursa pushed Azula to be with her friends. To be with Zuko. Ozai pushed Ursa away, and both kids suffered for it. Azula became a sadist, enjoying seeing her brother get burned—while Zuko was pushed away because he cared for his people.

Azula thought her mom hated her because her mom was the only one who cared enough to tell her no.

Hiii anon this ask fermented in my inbox and in my brain for so long,, so take this??? Post canon yue lives/no war au arts?? Anyway aside from the Parallels and their political position & their duty before hoes grindset I think they could learn a lot from each other. With zuko learning the gift of patience & diplomacy from yue & Yue learning that allowing yourself to feel anger and speaking up can actually be Good.

Azula’s Thoughts

The new chapter is out! Chapter 6 is all about Azula and what has been happening in her absence. This is more of a side-plot of The Stars Are So Bright Tonight, but I did want to explore Azula, Aang, and Katara a little more and give them space for development after the series. I mostly have the collection of one-shots done, but I’m still unsure about some major plot points so my updates may be varied, looking forward. That...and I totally got distracted by another story idea. Whoops :) It’s hard to diverge from the canon of the show a little and get away from the comics, and obviously a lot of scenes written in the comics that happen after the series have impacted this sequel but I want to give characters like Mai, Ty Lee, and Katara a different plot line that gives them more agency.
