Also one think I still haven't fully decided about my AU is what's up with Fox and Meg being in the same class. Because then they'd have to be the same age? So either they're:

Twins (which sounds weird to me).

Half siblings (and their moms were pregnant at around the same time).

Fox repeated a grade. Or Meg skipped a grade?

I don't really like either of these options, so I propose this: Fox and Meg live very far from where the school is, so Fox would have to move to go to Hope's Peak Academy. Except they're orphans and literally only have each other to rely on, so he obviously doesn't like the idea of leaving his little sister behind in an unsafe situation to fend for herself. But he can't just not accept going to this extremely prestigious school- it will give him a good title, and land him a lucrative job that'll get them both out of poverty. He can't throw away this opportunity.

So, he talks to some people in Hope's Peak, does some underhanded stuff, and manages to get her sister into his class even though she was never suppose to be in the school. Still not sure what he could've done, exactly, but I can see it bringing some drama in the story...

Finally decided to publish all the executions for my DR AU, with names and all! General trigger warning for violence and death.

Ultimate Seamstress Execution: The Tailor Shop of Death.

Chica is in front of a table covered in fabric, seamstress tools and a clock. There's a shackle around her neck with a chain that extends upwards. Maipet hands her a piece of paper with measurements and instructs her to make a dress before the time limit runs out.

She gets to work, trying to finish the dress as quickly as possible. However, as she works, the chain slowly starts pulling her upwards, choking her. Just as she's about to do the finishing touches, the chain abruptly moves faster, making her accidentally rip a part of the dress. With the time limit now over and no way to fix her mistake, the chain finally chokes her to death.

Ultimate Copycat Execution: Funhouse Mirrors.

Loon is put in the center of a room whose walls are made from reflective glass. The walls slowly start closing around him and, in a panic, he starts trying to break through one of them with his body. After throwing himself against the wall various times, the glass shatters, making him fall to the floor.

As he takes a second to look over the many cuts he received from the the glass, movement catches his eye, and he notices that he's surrounded by more walls of glass closing in on him. Frustrated, he tries to break through them again, only to find out that this glass is much more resistant. Not being able to break the walls, he's quickly crushed by them.

Ultimate Hypnotist Execution: Newton's Cradle.

Cami is hung upside down, with both her legs and hands restrained. At both her left and right, various spheres hang lined up from the ceiling, the same size as her head. The rightmost sphere is slowly lifted and then released, hitting the others- which lands a blow to her head, causing her to strike the ones at her left. With every cycle of this happening, the spheres pick up speed, striking her head harder and harder, until they eventually run out of momentum. By the time they stop, Cami's head is completely covered in her own blood.

Ultimate Basketball Player Execution: Flagrant 2 Foul- Suspension!

Fox is attempting to climb out of what appears to be a giant basketball net. There's only an abyss below the net, with no indication of how low the drop is. As he struggles to climb, Meg appears at the top of the net, visibly worried about him. Wanting to get to his sister, Fox tries to climb even faster.

Eventually, he's close enough to almost reach her... But just at that moment, the net catches fire. Feeling the burning in his hands, he instinctively lets go of the net, falling down. He tries to make a grab for another part of it, but the net disintegrates due to the fire, and he's left plummeting to his death.

Meg, who tried to reach into the net to save him, ends up badly burning the right side of her body.

Ultimate Bodyguard Execution: Explosive Firing Squad!

Eak is left at the top of a tall building, with no way to get out except for a door at the bottom of a long staircase. As he starts going down, a bullet grasses his face, and he quickly turns to his side. Various Maipets with guns surround the building, and are firing at him through the windows. He begins to descend as fast as possible while more bullets grace him, some even managing to hit his arms, which he's trying to use to protect his head.

Finally, as he's reaching the bottom, a bullet hits him on the side head and he falls down the last set of stairs... But it's not strong enough to kill him. Painfully, he crawls until he reaches the door and grabs the handle. As soon as the handle is pulled down, a loud beeping sound starts playing, and he barely has time to react before the whole bottom floor explodes. The building collapses in on itself, completely burying his body under rubble.

So I've been thinking about it lately and, since I haven't been able to finish this WIP in the two months I've been saving it, I'm posting it as is. It might be continued at some point? Maybe? Or I might just skip to the murder, trial and execution. We'll see.

Without further ado, here is...

Prologue: Hello Despair Highschool

Freddy, our protagonist, introduces himself and Hope's Peak Academy. As soon as he enters the school, he passes out without explanation, waking up after an unspecified amount of time in one of the school classrooms. As he gets out of the classroom, he meets the other students and introduces himself to them. In doing so, he discovers that they all also passed out upon entering the school, and that the whole place is locked up. Even as all of them tried to open the main door, it wouldn't budge, and the stairs were blocked off, only allowing them to move around the first floor. They also tried to break the windows but, despite them looking like perfectly normal windows, they were unable to break them even when throwing things like chairs or knives.

Strangely, he can't see the city from the windows- instead, he can only see water, as if they were in the middle of the ocean. They quickly deduce that, wherever they are, they clearly aren't in the actual Hope's Peak anymore.

Once they're all awake and alert, Maipet introduces himself, informing the students that they're now in a killing game. He goes over the rules, briefly explains the class trials, makes a passing comment about their memories that he refuses to elaborate about and instructs them to start going after each other already. All the students are, very obviously, confused over this situation and taking it seriously to different degrees- some seem genuinely scared, others think everything going on must be some sort of joke or weird dream.

With not much else to do, everyone decides to start exploring the school grounds, hoping to find some answers or perhaps a way out. Some of the students also take this time to start socializing amongst themselves, forming small groups in case someone does decide to attempt a murder.

Upon discovering the dorm rooms, Freddy is quite disturbed by the fact that all the doors have their names and pictures of them. He wonders if there's a particular reason his class specifically was kidnapped, and just how long this had been planned. Just in case, he decides to check his own bedroom, finding that it's decorated to his tastes. After exiting, he runs into Chica, who informs him that hers is also decorated like the one she had back at home, just with different furniture. Unable to find an explanation for this, they go tell the others, who are similarly disturbed. However, given that nobody has found anything that allows them to leave, they have no choice but the spend the night in their new rooms.

After this first day of peace, Maipet comes back, asking them why they haven't started with the killing yet. When the students tell him to go away and that they'd never kill anyone, he gives them the first motive: If someone doesn't show up dead in the next two days, they will all be executed, no exceptions. As everyone is starts shouting at him, a countdown appears on the screens around the school, signaling how many hours they have left. After this, Maipet leaves again, reminding them yet again of what they must do if they want to survive.

With this new threat hanging over their head, the class tries to figure out what to do. Freddy, for his part, is too freaked out to participate in the conversation- his anxiety gets the better of him, causing him to have a panic attack and runs away from the dinning room, where all the others were gathered. Chica follows him out, and manages to talk him into calming down slightly, assuring him that they'll figure out what to do.

After coming back, they stumble upon a discussion. Owynn was insisting that Springtrap, as the one with the most technical know-how, should try to force the front door of the school open. Springtrap refused, citing that one of the school rules says that tampering with school property is prohibited, and he doesn't want to risk getting killed. Toddy called him a coward, since him refusing to open the door could get them all killed, before Eak retorts that they have no idea if trying to force the door open would even work, in which case they'll be sacrificing someone for no reason. The others also start taking sides, but the discussion clearly isn't going anywhere, so it eventually dies down as everyone goes their own way.

With nothing else to do, Freddy spends his free time talking to his fellow students, hoping that forming some friendships will keep the peace in the school until they're all able to escape.

As the night announcement comes, he can't help but look up at the counter, worrying about what might happen once it reaches 0- or worse, what might happen if someone acts before then. He goes to sleep, hoping that the next day is a better one.

When he wakes up the next day, he goes to the dinning room again for breakfast, finding that it's mostly empty today. Golden, who's sitting there with a very angry looking Fox, informs him that he woke up late today- everyone had gathered around the table for breakfast earlier in the morning announcement, right after the morning announcement. But the conversation quickly turned into a heated discussion, leading everyone to go their own way. Freddy, feeling his anxiety bubbling up again, ends up feeling too sick to eat anything.

As he's leaving the dinning room, he considers going back to his dorm and hiding away until the countdown runs out or he wakes up from this nightmare (whatever happens first), before running into Cami. She questions his reasoning for staying in his bedroom past the morning announcement, clearly distrusting of him. While she's grilling him about his intentions, he briefly eyes Chica and Owynn arguing about something, but she quickly leaves the conversation and approaches him once she notices him looking at her. She manages to get Cami to leave him alone, and tries to calm him down again, but this time Freddy is just too nervous to talk and runs to his room.

I haven't thought about rewriting FHS in a while but if I did it then the Maipet thing that appears in FHSZ3R0 wouldn't exist. Totally get why Eddo felt the need to add a magical companion that explains things to the protagonist, but just telling the characters what they need to do and what's happening kind of robs you off the chance of letting them figure stuff out on their own.

Besides, I think exploring the whole shadow concept from a more character-centric perspective would be way more interesting. Because obviously someone who's never interacted with their shadow will have a way different view of the whole thing than someone like Fox, who despises his shadow, or Freddy, who has learned to live with his shadow.
