A platonic! Puss-in-boots and Perrito x reader

Summary: Working as a helper at Mama Lunas isn't always easy, and unexpected things can happen. Though, you never though meeting a Spanish-speaking cat and a dog dressed as a cat would be one of those things.

(An: This request was orginally for a younger niece or nephew of Mama Luna, but I didn't want to make it too gender specific (and I couldn't for the love of me figure out how to make a realistic family tree for Luna) so I made the reader an occasional volunteer. Please enjoy!

Sweep. Sweep. Sweep. The scratchy sound of the broom rings out as your broom glides across the floor, as bits of fur, spare litter, and kibble are swept up into the dustpan. You hum a soft tune, swaying in turn to the beat. "Oh, Little Helper, come here!" Mama Luna's voice rings out across the brightly colored casa. "Coming, Miss Luna." You prop the broom up against the wall, grabbing the dustpan and dumping the contents in the nearby trashcan. 'Don't want any of the cats trudging through this and undoing my work.' You think, placing the now empty pan back by the broom.

You hurry through the house, tiptoeing across persians, shorthairs, and tabbies as you attempt not to step on any tails. You step into the living and sigh in relief, having dodged all the cats. Mama Luna sits in her rocking chair, knitting what appears to be yet another pair of cat mittens. "Oh, come here child." She waves you over, eyes not leaving the yarn project in front of her. "I'm planting a catnip bush out by the garden, would ya' mind tilling the soil?" She asks, stopping to push her glasses back up the bridge of her nose. You nod, but pause with a grimace when you see the plethora of cats napping atop her ratty grey hair. "Yeah, sure. Do you know where the garden supplies are?" She waves a hand over in the direction of the backdoor. "Just check the bag by the door." As you step away, slipping at the back door, you hear her call. "Thank ya', Little Helper! I'll make ya a real nice sweater for this. You giggle a little, and shake your head.

Stepping down the rickety steps of the porch, you enter the garden. Bright stone walls enclose the area, decked out with various hanging plants. The ground is carefully decorated with all sorts of colorful plants, from poinsettias to marigolds. You smile, remembering the first time you entered Mama Luna's garden, coming to ask for some Marigolds for your Dia De Los Muertos altar. Honestly, you have no idea she managed to keep this garden looking so nice before you came along, seeing as anytime you see her she's knitting or bathing cats.

Just as you begin looking for a trowl, your ears perk up at a nearby sound. "So, Pickles, what do you want to do today? I was thinking-" "WE are not going to do anything, Perrito. I am going to sun in el jardín." You watch in amazement as what appears to be a talking cat strolls into the garden, standing on two legs. Behind him follows a, cat? 'What is that thing?' You think, tilting your head in confusion. The scrawny creatures look less like a cat, and more like a rat in a feline costume. "Oh! Sunning, just like a real cat! I'll join you, maybe I can sun my belly." The little animal says. "Um, excuse me?" You say, stepping forward to make your princess known. The orange cat jumps in shock, dropping to stand on all-fours, while his companion lowers his head, and attempts to use his hood, which has a cat face poorly knitted on it. "Uh... meow?" The orange cat tries. You furrow your brows, before looking back toward the house in realisation.

"Oh, you're worried Mama Luna will hear you. I won't tell her anything, I promise." You place a hand on your chest and kneel down, reaching the orange tabby's height. "I'm Mama Luna's helper, I just stop by from time to time, helping her with chores and what not. And you are?" The cat hesitates, green eyes looking you over cautiously, before standing back on two legs and taking a dramtic bow. "I am known by many names, but you, pequeño ayudante, may call me Puss." You smile, amused. "But your tag says pick-" "I know what the tag says! That is simply the name given to me by the-" Puss shudders, and glances at the house. "Iady of the house." He finishes. As you nod, your attention is drawn to his friend behind him.

"Who's your friend, Puss?" You ask, looking at the strange sweatered animal. Puss sighs, gesturing weakly with a paw. "This is Perrito, and, he is not my friend." Puss explains, barley glancing at Perrito. "Perrito... the cat? That seems like an odd name." You feign confusion, slowly reaching for Perrito's hood. Suddenly, you flip it back, revealing the a small, scrappy looking dog. "A chihuaha?" You exclaim, as the dog yelps. "Oh! Please, please, please don't tell Mama Luna, I don't really go into the house, I live under the por-" Perrito goes on, frantically rambling about his living conditions under the porch. Puss scoffs, turning away from the dog and pressing a paw to his forehead. You, on the other hand, feel your smile drop at the pitiful little pup. "Hey, calm down, please?" You ask, putting your hands out in front of you. Perrito's rambling stops and he looks up at you. "I'm not gonna kick you out or anything, I promise. You're a stray, right?" He nods. "Look, I know Mama Luna probably wouldn't be to keen on keeping a dog, or letting a walk around talking and standing." You admit. Perrito and Puss watch, waiting for your next words. "But, I'm not Mama Luna, so I guess I'll have to let it slide." Puss smiles and nods with gratitude, while Perrito hops up in delight. "Oh wow! Can you believe it Puss? Now, I've gone from no friends, to two friends in one day!" Perrito exclaims, tail wagging back and forth.

"We aren't amigos, amigo." Puss retorts. "Look, I have to finish tilling the soil, Mama Luna wants some new plants going in over there." You point towards the northern end of the garden, to a small bare patch under a tree. "But, once I'm done, maybe you guys can tell me a bit about yourselves?" You suggest. "Wow, Okay! Hey, I'm really good at digging. I bet if I help, we can get done even quicker!" Perrito exclaims. Before you can even respond, he bounds over to the unused soil and begins to dig at a frantic pace. You chuckle to yourself, and look a Puss. "He's... a bit odd, no?" Puss says, tilting his head as he watches Perrito fall into a hole that he just dug. "I'll say. Y'know, I'm looking forward to learning more about you, Puss. It's not everyday I meet a talking cat." You say, looking to the ground sheepishly as you kick a pebble. "Well, it seems like Perrito could be at it for a while... why don't I just started with the story now, sí?"

It's been several hours, much longer than you realize, since the three of you began to discuss your pasts. You were amazed to learn about the adventures of Puss. You couldn't imagine going through half the things he has. Not only that, but you didn't actually know cats had nine lives, you always assumed it was a myth. "So, I say to the man, 'That is the last time you'll cross Puss-in-boots!'" Puss exclaims, finishing a story. Perrito stands on his hind legs and claps, while you let out a loud cheer. You quickly cover your mouth to stifle the sound, realizing Mama Luna must be asleep. "Oh my god, w-what time is it?" You ask, looking up and realizing how dark it's gotten. "About 9:00, why?" Perrito asks. You hop up quickly, moving up the steps and towards the backdoor. "I need to pack up, I must've gotten carried away with your great story-telling puss." You compliment. Puss follows you in, but Perrito stops at the edge of the door. "Perrito, you sure you don't want to come in? Mama Luna's sight isn't what it used to be." You suggest Perrito smiles, but shakes his head. "Nah, I've got a cozy corner under the porch waiting for me, besides, the rats are probably expecting me back." He gives you a goodbye, and you smile sadly as the chihuaha scrambles under a lookse board of the porch, fall down under the porch with a 'pop'.

You hurry to begin the journey back home, tying your boots and avoiding cats as you grab your bag and coat. As you do a last minute chek, to ensure everything you need is with you, you see Puss out of the corner of your eye. He is stood leaning against the bottom of a bookshelf, seemingly conflicted. "Puss?" You ask softly. His head snaps up, and he looks at you. "Are you okay?" You ask. "Fine, just thinking is all." He says. You feel that there is something more, but simply turn away. As your hand moves to reach the door, he says one final thing.

"How often do you stop by?"

The cultists' nervous but polite questioning had turned into desperate and slightly terrified pleading.

"Kids, chill out. It's just a date."

The head priest presses a shaking hand to his forehead and reminds himself to use his inside voice when talking to the literal goddess currently trying to mold a body of solid light into something that'll look good in a cocktail dress.

"Dawn Mother please listen. She's clearly a spawn of Dark birthed from the Void Between Stars. Her children are beasts of the night, her very form shifts like a shadow, and we're pretty sure she controls the tides-"

"What's wrong with controlling the tides?"

"That's not the point!" the head priest takes a breath. Inside voice. Inside voice. "Just...Please, Please reconsider inviting a powerful horror terror into our inner sanctum."

The goddess tuts and pats the priest on the head with a giant hand that leaves another sun bleached white streak in his hair.

"Come on now, I would never invite her over on the first date. She's not going to meet you kids until we think it's serious. This is just, you know, a little fun." The Dawn Mother pushes the mass of light up into an impressive bust and considers her new shape for a moment before literally pouring herself into the dress. "You know Mama needs her fun every once in a while or things start to burn."

That wasn't a threat exactly. She'd never threaten them.

But.

The head priest sighs, defeated. "Understood. Good luck with your...date. And be careful. Please."

A beam of light kisses him on the top of the head and he gains another streak.

"You worry too much. Go to the alter if you need me. I'll have all prayers on silent but I'll pick up right away so don't hesitate to call out. Lock the doors, Dinner is in the fridge, and no fighting."

The light in the grand temple dims as the Dawn Mother fades from view like a sunset. "Listen to your big brother! I love you all!~" She says as she disappears, leaving nothing but disembodied sunbeams and warm stone.

The head priest sighs. Nobody ever listens to him in this fucking cult.

over on patreon Gay Spaceship asked for 'sun and moon cosmic horror lesbians' so i made two moms ready to Brady Bunch their respective followings together. Dawn doesn't really see a problem with her new girlfriend. Luna is wonderful! sweetest being she's ever known with a unique loving family. all this Horror Terror business is just the kids catastrophising again. poor things are scared of their own shadows.

also, important size difference:

Dawn can technically be any size she wants but she's usually around 9-12ft tall while Luna's illuminated form fluctuates between 3.5 and 4ft.

Details I noticed in The Last Wish pt 5

I know I said I was done but then I watched it again and now I have more

So I mentioned in a previous post how there's always a big build up before they show a character's face for the first time, but I realized the extent of it during this rewatch. In the very beginning, before Puss starts singing, they don't even show the face on the ice sculpture of him. They really want the first time the viewer sees his face to be when he starts singing

They also don't show Puss' face on the painting he vandalized of the Govenor until the spotlight goes on it. I know they did this for the funny dramatic reveal but it's really quite impressive that it wasn't in the shot sooner considering Puss was singing and dancing in front of it for quite some time now

The lady in a wheelchair who's on the left side of the crowd after he defeats the giant is also at the party

Speaking of when Puss defeats the giant, he winks at the crowd as it falls behind him

The song he starts singing when he gets hit with the bell is called "The Legend Will Never Die." This is one of the songs he sings when he's in the cave of lost souls that we catch the very tail end of

When Death shows up at the bar, Puss has his tongue out from drinking his leche. He does a blep a lot longer than I would in the presence of Death but when Death holds the shot glass up, you can see him put it away in the reflection on the glass

The scythe that cuts Puss in the bar fight is the one with his lives marked off

Mama Luna's house is on a peninsula jutting into the sea

During the montage of him at Mama Luna's, when he lays down on the rug for the first time he has his back claws out. They retract slightly when all the other cats come and squish him in but they're still visible

The white and cream cat who becomes acquaintances with Puss (the white and cream cat watches him on the litterbox and they nod at each other later) is the one on the litterbox when Mama Luna tells him that that's his bathroom. So they have canonly both watched each other poop... that's fun...

The statue of the Govenor that Papa Bear knocks over as they leave Del Mar has the Govenor with a foot on a bag of money. No wonder the people didn't like him

Mama Luna has matching blue socks with her cats. They have pink paw prints on the bottom. She also has yellow paw prints on her earrings

Goldi laughs when Papa stuffs Mama Luna into the piano

On the inside of the doors in Jack's treasure room, it says J.H.

When the crime family falls through the ceiling of Jack's factory, the stained glass window of him breaks and falls outside the room. Later when Jack's packing his bag, he steps on the glass that's now inside the room. A little consistency error

Also when Jack and the Serpent Sisters walk into the treasure room, the door stays wide open. No one goes to close it and it doesn't swing shut by itself. In the next shot we get of the door, it's fully closed. It doesn't really matter but it's still interesting that they can include all these little things but didn't have the door swing shut or smth while they're talking. it would have been an easy fix. oh well

When they show Kitty's wanted poster, there's a hiss with the background music. A clever way to add a bit more of her character without doing anything too big

The music they play during the chase after Puss, Perrito, and Kitty steal the map is Puss and Kitty's Flamenco. It's the same song they play when they're fighting for the map later and dance on each other's feet

"I'll get you, my kitties, and your little dog too." A wonderful Wizard of Oz reference by Jack that no one ever talks about

When they're looking at the map in the Dark Forest, Kitty pushes Puss out of the way so she can see what her path is. Except she pushes him by his face. And she pushes him so hard, he completely flips over. That had to have hurt

Goldi has leather stitching on the back of her blue corset-esque piece where it was let out to fit her better. It's probably the same one she was wearing when she broke into the bear's house all those years ago and they've just been adjusting it to fit her as she grows

This isn't so much a detail as it is a question. They posies just hit Team Friendship but they eat Jack's people. Just pull all the flesh off their bones in one go. Why did they respond differently? Maybe it's because they didn't have the map? Maybe it's because they could sense that Team Friendship's wishes were better than Jacks? idk

Before Puss runs off from the fight by the river and has a panic attack, you can see Death reflecting in his eyes

Death smiles as he watches him run into the forest

When Mama Bear suggests that maybe they could be happy without a wish, Goldi gives her a glare. She does not like that idea lol

Goldi also pulls a face when Perrito says she won the orphan lottery and Mama says, "I like his jib as well. Lets keep him."

During the final fight at the star for the map, Puss jumps off Goldi's face to grab it

This isn't so much a detail as it is something funny I like, but I love it when Kitty has the map during the final fight and is jumping confidently through the air... and then gets body slammed by a bear lol Like she's so small and she just got completely launched by a bear coming out of nowhere

Also when Jack is ignoring Nutmegan as she gets sucked into the star and he just ducks as an entire bear goes flying over his head. idk i just think the bears fighting in very unbearlike ways is funny

So Puss must be unbelievably strong because when Baby was being sucked into the star, it took two full grown bears and Goldi to save him but Puss does it by himself. He almost gets sucked in too for much longer than Baby and no one comes to help him; he's just holding onto the Gatito Blade with one hand. And then all by himself, using only rage, he gets his feet back on the ground and rejoins the fight. Like,,,, that must have been so hard

Death growls as he talks when Puss finally stares him down after telling him to pick up the scythe

This is only something I noticed during the last fight but I'm pretty sure it's true during the rest of the movie too. Death doesn't blink. He closes his eyes when making certain facial expressions but he doesn't blink. This is such a subtle but cool way to make him feel more unsettling and supernatural without the audience picking up on it

When Perrito's trying to do the cute eyes at Jack, he puts his head down for a second and you can see his shoulder blades sticking out through his sweater

Kitty always runs like she's in an anime. Like this

When Puss suggests "chomper" as a name for Perrito, Kitty shakes her head too

Someone used the Gatito Blade to pin Team Friendship's wanted poster to the mast of the ship they steal at the end

When Puss points at it, his claws are out too. He was so offended by that being their official team name now, he was moved to minor violence lol

She’s rich and gets to stay in her lovely villa on a hill, avoiding humans, taking care of cats, surrounded by cats, just walks around and enjoys the fact that she has so many cats and has cat-themed furniture and catty outfits.

She’s literally everything I aspire to be.

Details I noticed in The Last Wish pt 2

This also includes some of my favorite lines that don't get talked about enough lol

There are eight tally marks next to Puss's wanted poster, one for each life

When Puss is basking in the applause after he defeats the giant, there's a lady in a wheelchair on the left side of the crowd

After the Doctor tells him he needs to retire, Puss says, "Are you the village comedian as well?"

In the fight against Death in the bar, Puss actually does cut a chunk of Death's fur off. Like we know that Puss is a good fighter, but this solidifies the fact that when he's actually putting all his effort into it, not preforming like he was with the giant, he is a crazy force to be reconned with. Which then in turns shows how powerful Death is. But kudos to Puss; he may brag constantly but at least he does actually have the skills to back it up

The characters actually get dirty. This happens after Puss swims through the sewer and then walks through the woods but also to all of the characters as they go through the Dark Forest. Everyone gets progressively dirtier and more scraped up

When Puss starts singing while holding his funeral at Mama Luna's, he says, "Who is your favorite fearless hero? You were, you were."

When they're eating at the kibble trough and Perrito keeps hitting Puss with his tail, Puss elbows him as he tries to get him to stop it

Puss must have made some friends, or acquaintances at least, while at Mama Luna's because he nods at a cream and white cat, who nods back, when him and Perrito walk past

When the crime family arrives, Mama says, "Listen to your sister, Baby!" To which Baby responds with, "She's not my sister, she's a fugitive orphan!!" Idk, his delivery there always gets me lol

While the bears ransack her house, Mama Luna calls out, "You think this is the first time I've been stuck in a piano???" ...Which makes me have a lot of questions about her life lol

The way Perrito says, "If this Puss in Boots is such a big deal, maybe we shouldn't be desecrating his grave :D" with a big smile on his face as he digs it up lol

With every character, with the exception of Kitty, there's a big build up before they show their face. Puss: we see his boots and people's reactions while he flips around for quite a while before he finally lifts his hat up, the Doctor: we hear him first and then see his back, the three bear crime family: we get a POV shot from Golid as she's riding on their backs and then they're backlit, Mama Luna: we see her dress and then Puss' reaction, Perrito: we see him from behind and then Puss' reaction, Jack Horner: we see his shadow then a poster of him as a kid and then close ups of him eating a pie, the Serpent Sisters: we see them from above/behind and then a close up of the chest, Ethical Bug: lots of glowing/sparkles and Jack's reaction. Kitty is the only character who almost instantly gets a face reveal (even tho we briefly only see her eyes for a second), probably for the shock value of her dramatic reveal

While Puss and Kitty are hiding behind the chest after taking the map, Jack says, "Aha! There it is!" Puss lets out a sigh of relief after realizing that Jack was referring to the Midas touch and not their hiding spot. Just all the little details that show he's more on edge and anxious than he was before his encounter with Death

During the fight/chase for the map in the factory, Goldi smiles and nods in the top left corner while Papa says "You shouldn't have done that, mate" after Puss hits him in the nose with his stick

Kitty's path through the Dark Forest consists of the swamp of infinite sorrows, the mountains of misery, and the abyss of eternal loneliness. I think she might give Puss a good run for his money on who's the most depressed lol

Puss starts scratching at his beard as early as the pocket full of posies

Jump to the end now bc I got too caught up in the movie to notice any new details lol

In the second to last scene, as the Commodore walks out to the dock to go on his vacation, villagers whisper and glare at him behind his back. He is not very well liked lol
