Hey, all the Goncharov girlies have seen The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015), right??

I mean. It doesn't have the noir-ish tone or the drama of Goncharov, but it's kind of the spiritual successor. They're in Naples. Everyone has ridiculous names. The women are sharp and in charge. The men are rolling around on the floor trying to fuck kill each other. The boys call each other "Peril" and "Cowboy" like that's a perfectly normal thing for grown men who are not Involved to do. There's a boat chase. There's a love-square (though I wish these ladies had as many scenes as Katya and Sofia). There's even significant clock (ok, watch) shenanigans.

I'm not saying anything can really live up to the sheer romantic tragedy of Goncharov, and like I said, the tone is very different--much more tongue-in-cheek. And spies instead of mafia. But like. Hear me out. They go together.

Someone else sees this, right? It's not just me?

my personal theories about where Napoleon Solo is from, ranked by how funny I find them:

. New York City: Probably the correct answer, very uninteresting. 1/10

. Connecticut: In this version, he is an extremely WASPy American. White picket fence house, suburban someplace, lovely parents, played football in high school, etc. 2/10

. Southern California: Okay this one is made a little bit more fun because a lot of wacky stuff was going on in Los Angeles in the 1930s/1940s and personally I find how much smaller it was back then sort of fascinating. 3/10

. Kentucky: Here's where I start being entertained. Because I love the idea that he's from some place wildly incongruous and has a background that you wouldn't expect. Man's totally reinvented himself as an adult. Being from the south, generally, would explain the name Napoleon though. At least to me. Don't fact check me. 5/10

. Exact geographical center of North America, which is in North Dakota somewhere: idk. He is American. He is America. That is All. 6/10

. Utah: The more I think about it, the more I'm amused. He was raised Mormon. His family has no idea what he does for a living. He avoids going home for Christmas. He is an atheist and never getting married no matter how many planets they promise him in the afterlife. 8/10

. Toronto: Just, like, hear me out. What if he was Canadian? 9/10

. Russia: This is not a real theory, but I was thinking what if he was from Europe, what would be the funniest - oh Russia, obviously. lmao 10/10
