"backstage at a live event" is perhaps my favourite human collective emotion ive ever experienced. From running through the creepy empty school hallways before a theatre show, to the staff only breakroom at a convention or event where youre running a stall, to the bridal suite getting ready before your bestie walks down the isle.

Theres a little wall between the guys who are 'in on it' with you, whatever it is, and your audience or customers or guests or just all those people who are *not* in on it. Youve got a wallkie talkie, or a backstage pass, or an exhibitor badge, and youve never felt more alive

The funniest part of this new event is the fact I can't find out what's going on it from spoilers. All context is lost in the wave of Hot Eel Mom. I love her, all hail Georgina, mother of This and That, but where is the context? What *is* the event?

but Floyd last-minute changed his mind (on account of being Floyd) and Azul was like "I'm not going if your mom is going to be there". at which point Jade realized he'd just been handed a golden opportunity to invite the absolute funniest group of people he could think of.

anyway tl;dr Jade manipulates a bunch of nerds into joining him to heckle/throw bricks at/try to drown a couple of randos in the name of love, what could possibly go wrong

Impulse day!! This is my first time drawing his season 10 outfit so the design is very WIP but I'm pretty happy with it as a first draft ^^

Thinking again about how many disabled people end up getting shunted into art/craft work because like. You can technically do it. Sometimes. Yeah you make a pittance at best and are almost certainly going to make your physical health worse by pushing yourself to get things done, but what else are you gonna do? You're too sick for anyone to hire you. You're "not sick enough" to qualify for benefits. Just devote every scrap of time and energy you have to a chronically underpaid, low-prestige, incredibly labor-intensive industry. A few people manage to make it work with luck and help and the right skills. Many people don't. Everyone gets pressured to monetize their hobbies, but it's especially insidious if you're disabled because any tiny thing you manage to accomplish to bring yourself joy gets twisted into proof that you should somehow be able to work.

It occurs to me to wonder, have you ever stumbled across the Society for Creative Anachronism?

I'm familiar! My main problem is that 1. I'm just not that interested in roleplay, fantasy or historical, and 2. most of what I make tends to fall more in the Edwardian-Victorian stylistic range or is just straight fantasy, not really that historically based. I love to learn how stuff was done but I am an adapter, not a recreationist. Like, I'm aiming more for Howl Pendragon than Arthur Pendragon, y'know? Most of the SCA groups in my region tend to land pretty solidly medieval.

Honestly, I'm a set designer/stage manager left loose without a theater to haunt. That is genuinely where my base skillset comes from, but my work and ceramics schedule is not well adapted to letting me get involved in theater. I am really not a person that enjoys acting, and both LARP and SCA tend to involve a fair bit of it. (And yes, I know I don't have to role-play to participate but also I am not a person who is going to roll up to the event and then not participate, so I'm just gonna try my best and be mediocre, which is of course a fate worse than death.)

I've been talking with a couple friends about trying to get involved with local LARP or SCA groups just because we agree that we need more nerds in our lives but simply cannot sustain more DnD campaigns. I'm open to giving it a shot and then winding my way to more of an event management/set/props role, which is where I do best, but it's hard to figure out where to start.

We're probably gonna give this Hobbit thing a try and see how we like it, and then go from there. I have been scouting around a little bit to try to get the lay of the land here in Michigan; figure out what our options are.
